View Full Version : Cameroon 0 - 2 Germany
Hitro Jun 11, 2002, 07:03 AM Yes! [dance]
Edit: Now that I've calmed down I will comment the match itself. The first half was mediocre, obviously both teams were quite nervous. Cameroon had some good chances and the referee started his card inflation. Ramelow was sent off before half-time, which turned out to be the crucial moment of the match. After that, especially in the second half, the German team played almost perfect considered they just had 10 men. Substitute Marco Bode (WERDER! :goodjob: ) scored the first goal in about the 50th minute, Miroslav Klose, the tournament's best striker so far, added the second one later. The referee continued rewarding cards like being mad, also resulting in Suffo being sent off.
Germany is through with 7 points and 11 to 1 goals! :goodjob:
Also congratulations to Ireland.
Knight-Dragon Jun 11, 2002, 08:05 AM Well, it was to be expected. Go Germany go! :goodjob:

Not at all, Cameroon had loads of chances but didn't get the goals.
How many cards? How many fouls? I thought Portugal v Poland was bad...
You'd never know there was tension in the match would you?

There were 14 (fourteen!!!) yellow cards AND two yellow/red cards.
And the match wasn't even anywhere near brutal. He awarded a yellow card for almost every single foul.
And yes, Cameroon had chances in the first half, and a single one in the second. But the defensive play in the second half was great and the two goals finally broke the Cameroonese's morale.
Suppersalmon Jun 11, 2002, 08:30 AM damm i wanted Cameroon to win :(:(:(
Globber Jun 11, 2002, 09:45 AM ya, Cameroon had a lot of great chance with an open goal that should have been easy goals, but were wasted away... they got what was coming to them
oryx Jun 11, 2002, 12:13 PM The referee was definately out of control. He DID give out a lot of yellow cards on ordianary fouls. He even gave one to a Cameroon player for stalling, this when Cameroon was down 1-0! Then when there was of pushing and shoving on the verge of a fight, nothing. About the only thing good you could say about the referee was that he was consistent, but that's no excuse for being bad.
It was however an amazing match for Germany. They were horrible in the first half with 11 players and dominated the second half with 10.
Lucky Jun 11, 2002, 01:12 PM YAY!
I´m not really a fan of our national team and I wouldn´t have minded Cameroon to win. :p
But our teamchef Rudi Völler somehow formed a great team with strong courage out of relatively mediocre players. Let´s see how our team will perform against better teams now. :yeah:
It is a long way to regain confidence in our national team again, but they are taking it with big steps.
:D
Hitro Jun 11, 2002, 01:18 PM This is the first time since 1996 that I want them to win. I like this team because they are regarded as mediocre. In reality they are the best team Germany has had since quite long ago (in football terms).
And Rudi Völler is an important factor too, of course.
"Es gibt nur ein' Rudi Völler!" :D
Lucky Jun 11, 2002, 02:35 PM Rudi is the most important factor!
And forming a real team with the will to fight and win is his (and that of Skibbe) success alone. I also like some players of that team, those who don´t behave like egocentric stars, like Bode, Klose, Schneider, Metzelder, Linke, Frings and others.
Yet there are those who most of the time play worse than the others yet they kept up their arrogant style, just because they achieved something in the past. Like Ziege and Bierhoff. But Rudi managed to even integrate them into the team.
Hoorray for RUUUUUUUDI!
Oh, and of course we have to thank for having the world´s best keeper in our team.
Concerning the referee in this game, he was indeed consistant, but as Mr. Netzer, the ARD analyst said later, the referee was one of the self-loving type, those who always consider themselves as the center of the game.
But the FIFA considers that guy being one of the best in the world.
Well, we all know how things work in the FIFA, though.
:D
KaeptnOvi Jun 12, 2002, 01:05 AM well with myself being swiss it would almost be considered national treason to support Germany, but since my gf is half german I think I'm allowed to cheer them even so: Go Germany :goodjob: . Just bag that Jancker-guy, I mean how ugly can you get?
Just hope that they won't have to play against Spain in the 1/8-finals b/c then they're out (go Spain :D :D :D ).
