Hi,
I've recently updated to 3.13, but when i try to start a game it crashes. Any ideas?

I've got the same. It just shows main menu for 1 second and quits to windows with no any messages

Same here.
No mods, nothing. In fact, I just reinstalled it completely, and it still crashes.

I don't know if this is of any significance, but this is what ThemeParseLog.txt shows:

P.S. Ok, I've just went there and fixed all of that, so the errors don't show anymore, but the game still crashes.

Does anyone get any error message when this happens? Also just to make sure: when BtS came out some people reported crashes with the 3.02 patch that went away after a restart of the computer :mischief:

Yep, no errors at all, the game just exits. And restart doesn't help.

I have the same problems.
I turned Windows firewall off (in the other post, a moderator suggested me to turn Norton or any else kind of firewall off) and, besides, I've set the low definition but the game still crash with the patch.

No, mine crashes when I'm loading a saved game or, if I go for a new game, it crashes at the end of the first or second turn.

There seem to have been instances in which the patch did not install correctly the first time and had to be manually reinstalled a second time - just download it from this site and try that.

My card is GeForce 6600GT so it won't be it.
And same as Phristen, reinstalling does nothing.
Also it crashes a split second when opening the game, just getting a glimpse look of the main menu and nothing more.

Ok, I've tried this and it works:
Apparently I had Solver's patch installed (Ooops..), so I deleted it and reinstalled the 3.13 patch.

Hope it helps someone..

would anyone NOT using a cracked version please open the CivilizationIV.ini in your my documents/my games/Beyond the Sword directory and set all items that have log in their name to 1.
Then start the game, after it crashes zip all files in My Games\Beyond the Sword\Logs and upload those - if possible use this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=246038) to do so.
Also please post as many details on your system and version you can.

Well i have this problem with mod making, incorporating Great Doctor Mod to BtS 3.13:

I made loging and got something like that:

[192976.687] ERR: InitWinApp() failed, exiting
[192976.718] ERR: CIV Init FAILED, exiting

Without this new mod, the game runs quite smoothly.

mods are difficult - if this mod includes a .dll then it needs to be recompiled for 3.13 and that means you have to port the changes made in the various c++ files that come with the SDK into the new SDK version and then compile it - thats not a trivial task if you do not know what those changes where in the first place...

i had a similar problem with bts when i first installed it. several of the buttons and files didn't appear right, but i didn't crash unless i made it in a game to the industrial era.

in my case, the error was solved when i updated civ4 vanilla to 1.74, which it didn't do automatically for some reason. After that, it worked fine.

My game crashes few seconds after i start the game (if i put resolutuion on 1280 1024 even before game starts), i also don't have some menueas in options part(audio...)

My games crash at a certain point. Here is the only error I see in my logs. Is my computer missing something? I've reinstalled and end up with the same problem.

at what point does it crash, does it give any error message and please zip the complete log and post it here even if you do not see any error in it :)

It does not crash at a specific point exactly that I can tell. I have done some tinkering with the world builder on my current game trying to figure out if it was something particular about the current game but nothing I can find makes any difference. I thought it was something else so don't have logs from other times but here is the most recent one. I can send you the saved game if you think that would help.

I'll probably start a new game this week and save the logs when that one gets stuck as well.

I must be my computer... It just doesn't like 3.13. Everything else runs great. I was playing a new game last night with no problem. Got to year 1540AD and saved and quit for the night and shut computer down. I just booted it and loaded game. It is very sluggish for a few minutes and just crashes. The screen goes black and the monitor goes into power saving mode and I have to power the pc off and back on.

What gets me is nothing changed between last night and now. I just don't get it... I am a network administrator and deal with Linux, Most versions of Windows, and various other systems and networks and I'd like to think my trouble shootings skills are pretty good, but this just has me stumped.

I'll keep experimenting but would appreciate and pointers.

sorry I looked at the log and then forgot to post :blush:
The log unfortunately does not contain any meaningful error apart from some sound problems (this should not cause the crash). Could you repost what exactly happens?
Did you ever post your dxdiag results here?

Thanks man!

When i put graphic to minimum(resolution and details) i can play a few minutes then just crashes to windows without any note. Otherwise with normal graphical settings it crashes during map starting.

you might want to install a new driver for your graphics card - yours is almost 2 years old. Get the new driver here (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_169.21_whql.html).
And while you are at it (probably not a problem, but still) your sound driver is :old: get a new one here (http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false).
Note: I did check that those are the right ones - but you should still check as well, do NOT install drivers for hardware you do not have.
Your graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS
Your sound card is Realtek AC97 Audio

The missing options bother me - this is usually due to missing/corrupt install or patch files - but your logs don't indicate something like this. If the new drivers don't help - post again, I'd recommend a clean uninstall/reinstall then, but please don't do that before posting here - you might need a walkthrough :)

Before doing that you might want to try this:
The below is a gazillionth repost of a walkthrough - if you do not have Warlords ignore that part. It is written for XP so if you have Vista the paths might be different.


install the most recent version of DirectX 9c from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en)

then do the following for a clean reinstall:

Uninstall and Reinstall Civ4 Warlords BtS :

Try to follow this order when doing stuff:
Use Control panel to uninstall Beyond the Sword, then Warlords, then Vanilla
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
(note: application data is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files, also these directories in application data are sometimes removed by the uninstall routine)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}" (Civ4)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}" (Warlords)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}" (BtS) (note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).
Install Vanilla, immediately patch it to 1.61 (download it fresh from here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=3))
Install Warlords, immediately patch it to 2.08 (download it fresh from here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=3344))
Install Beyond the Sword, immediately patch to 3.13 (download it fresh from here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=7412)).
