Anyone else notice there seem to be fewer barbarians than in Vanilla

Its either that or I'm getting luckier because I don't really fog bust much anymore (having realised there seem to be fewer barbarians about)

I generally play on Noble (working my way up again) in BtS and was up to Prince in Vanilla....

Barbarians all turned to space piracy and went to bother people in Final Frontier. Space pirates there are so annoying!

That explains why there is a chance of failing to find Alpha Centauri if your ship is properly equipped. Maybe there should be options to equip the ship with photon torpedos to fend off the space pirates. :)

Nah, just increase the casing. The extra casing will ward off pirates, because of its casingness and lack of holes in the ship for them to hit, so they bugger off to find someone else's ship who has got only 1 casing

Hello.

In several games since patch 3.03, I have found completely undefended barb cities! A few turns earlier, they had the usual 3 archer garrison, and when I came with my attack force of 4 swordsmen, there were no defenders left. WTHIGO?

The Great Wall also could be a reason why the Barbarians are not bothering you...

MrG, tear down this wall!

There was definitely some sort of change with the barbs in BtS. Emperor on Warlords the barb hunting was always a challenging part of the game, an endless supply of barb axes marching into your lands. BtS they sometimes barely show up at all and rarely any axes when they do.

I'm fairly sure that Barbs in BtS will attack anyone, but in Warlords/Vanilla the barbs concentrate on the human player.

I suspect that barbs were nerfed to (over-) compensate for barb-creation events.

I was scouting Germany in my most recent game and noticed Berlin was a barbarian city.

That was a bug in earlier versions of BTS where sometimes the AI would take a city defender and wonder off the city with him for nothing. They say it is fixed in 3.13.

And yes, in warlords and vanilla barbarians mostly attacked only humans.
Now they attack other CIVs too, so that is probably why you think there is less barbarians, because they won't walk half of the world anymore only to attack you!

It's strange. When I first started playing BTS, I was subjected to barbarian invasions the likes of which I had never seen before, even with raging barbs turned off. Lately, though, they seem to have really died down. Maybe it's because I tend to keep larger standing armies now?

BTW, did they at last remove these absurd "massive uprisings" when 6 axemen would suddenly spawn 6 tiles from your capital in 3000 BC? This was a rel plague in early BTS versions...

They are either there in large numbers or not there at all. Yet to see anything greater than an barbarian archer in my BTS games.
