From what I concluded from reading the CFC forum, it seems SE is really powerful for emperor+ level games, particularly for domination or backdoor UN victory. Could a more capable player start a deity level using CE economy (standard map, epic speed), and show how to best leverage cottages for a higher level victory? In turn, the results can be compared with the SE style game in the Justinian's University thread.

I played a CE game right from the start here:

I never finished the game, but around 1000 AD I was quite far ahead in science to everybody else, even pre lib

Ill try playing one.
I've been very sucessfull playing Immortal games with Inca-cottage spam.

And http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=160551&d=1190072507 is a deity win of mine with heavy cottage use.

I believe CE is used a lot at higher levels, it's just there is a lot more to prove with SE so a lot more SE heavy threads have been posted. that and a lot of strategy revolves around using your libraries to get scientist specialists and produce GSs, but typically turn into heavy CE. running a 'correct' SE is a lot harder than running a CE imo.

to run a correct CE u really need financial and alot of floodplains.

I wish I had kept the saves, but I had an Immortal Inca game with 99% of the tiles as cottages, and I won domination by 1900AD. The economy was crazy.

heres my Immortal game with the Inca's where virtually every tile was a cottage.
I'm not so much of a cottage spammer now, but on that game I teched very fast.

Thanks posting your winning game, Cheffster, quite impressive. Did you find that your production was lacking earlier on before universal suffrage, and that you can't use slavery as much?

I found that my production was fine. I built the AP, and right away build monastaries/temples in all my cities so that base +4:hammers: probably helped alot. I really didn't use the whip much. This was a wonderspam/cottagespam game where things worked out really good for me.

I had US very early since I teched to democracy very fast, rarely used slavery, but bought alot of units/buildings to hurry things.

But what really did it in this game was my Ironworks city (Harrapan) which initially was a Barb City. And my Maoi Statues City (Huamanga) was extreamly good as well.

I played this game back in early/mid July and its still probably my favourite/Best game of BTS. highest score as well.

Congratulations, cheffster.

Just a question, please: Why the cottages/towns in the military city (Machu
Pitchu) ? Aren't they too expensive for the profit they give? Do you want to
elaborate about?

Best regards,

Iīm currently playing a "Transition Economy" (=TE) game (starting with Food Economy, FE, then switching to Cottage Economy, CE, around 300 AD, after the innitial infrastructure and army buildup has finished)

Itīs played online here in the forum, at Stories and Tales (but itīs warlords, not bts... ...the AI techs WAY faster and expands WAY faster in warlords, so I think a pure FE isnīt possible in warlords right from the start due to the need of your own expansion and early lightbulbing to keep up in tech)

Don Deity: Warlords 2.08, huge random continents map, epic speed (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=230955)

...

But with bts, with the slower teching and the changed AI settling strat, a pure CE right from the start is possible on deity (I started some games, played up to rifling, which you can get around 900 AD, but never finished them, because once you go to war at deity, things start to get REALLY time consuming even if itīs riflemen agains lbows and stuff due to the sheer ammount of units the AIīs are fielding, and Iīm still busy with the Don DEity game...)

I think I eventually made them into workshops/watermills, but even with those US towns I still able to produce 1 turn tanks on epic speed, so.... I didn't think it mattered much.
