Hi,

Just playing my first ever Tech Trading OFF game. Huge 5 continents, Domination off, 15 Civs. Marathon/Noble.

Strated wiping people out on my continent, built up a slight tech tead, got liberalism first, and there's no looking back. I found with tech trading on, the AIs could research different techs and then trade them to each other. With this off, they have no chance. The only thing I didn't like was not being able to see if I was ahead of another Civ. It would show me my the techs they were ahead of me (until I moved ahead). Warlords version BTW.

Anyway. Try Tech Trading OFF. I'm sure you'll like it.

Cheers.

If you want to utterly destroy the AI, then turn down the difficulty level. :crazyeye:

In higher difficulties AIs tech much faster than you, and if you cant use beelining+trading tactic there is no way you can keep up in tech I'm afraid..

Out of interest, how are the AIs doing techwise? Are all wonders built really late? Is the AI still running around with Macemen in 1800?

I've always steered clear of this option I assumed it would result in most AI civs being very backwards in tech.

AI teching in my experience has only been a problem at emperor level and above (BTS). But I play small maps, and can see a block of AI being more of a problem at monarch. Below monarch, any version, any size map, barring some ridiculous circumstances, you can simply tech everything yourself and leave the AI in the dust. The AI just don't have the ability to run a good economy.

You can do fine without tech trading at almost all difficulty levels. That said on noble there should be no way you can not out tech the ai no matter what settings if you halfway know what you are doing.

This is simply not true, especially in BtS where espionage can actually outshine SE+tech trading. See, e.g., Immortal Dutch Domination.

But I DO like to utterly destroy the AI :)

I just like messing around with random leaders, different maps, different speeds, etc. all on Noble until I'll eventually be able to get BTS for my Mac.

Cheers.

Hi,
I found with tech trading on, the AIs could research different techs and then trade them to each other.

Did you also learn that you too can trade the technologies and benefit from it?

Just learn to play better so you don't have to resort to lame tricks.

What the heck?

Tech Trading off isn't a lame trick. We're all in the same boat. I win easy enough with Tech Trading on, so there.

I was just pointing out that Tech Trading OFF is a blast and suits my play style better (not having to worry about diplomacy as much).

Cheers.

What I like about tech trading off (or even tech brokering off) is that if you have an isolated start, your game isn't totally hosed.

I find playing with tech trading off to be much more satisfying. You focus more on researching what would be good for your empire instead of researching techs you know the AI won´t prioritize, which is too much like gaming the system for my taste.

It also has more of a "real world" feel to it in the lategame. Some civs will be pretty backwards, while others are powerhouses that will outtech you with their boni on higher difficulty levels.
