Nice I am glad Sweden went through, it was interesting to see people at my school chearing just as loud for Sweden, as for England :)

Yeah, congratulations Sweden - the World Cup Finals wait, and with a 1-0 victory over Argentina, you've certainly proved you deserve it :D

Oh I know, Crespo was supposed to have scored a goal from a Penalty Kick rebound, but of course he ran into the box waaaay before the kick was taken, so that goal was disallowed...

And stupid me, I thought the Argentinians would be the next champions...

Well done, Sweden!

Was it Batistutia who took the actual penalty because I thought Fifa banned people stopping just before they took penalties because it was considered unfair

oh well there out and thats all that matters

EDIT* oh and England are through of course thats the most important thing :)

It was Ortega or Crespo and I think it was Ortega who took the penalty and then Crespo scored the rebound

It was Ortega who took the penalty, and Crespo started running into the penalty field before Ortega had touched the ball, which is not allowed.:whipped:

And congrats to the Three Lions as well - Beckham & co. grabbed the chance of another game before it's time to head back to England, I guess ;)

 I haven't seen the game yet, but have it taped at home... Aside from the result, was the match good?

Not really. There were quite a few chances but it wasn't a memorable game.

SWEDEN is the winner of the "group of death"! The team nobody thought would win the group did it. The team nobody thinks very highly of except in sweden, is through and will meet senegal next game.

You should think twice before dissing sweden again! ;)

I watched the game - was Sweden even awake? Lordy, they jogged around like zombies all game long. O well, on to the next round...

Sweden did OK. But I couldn't for the life of me understand why the Argies didn't actually try dribbling the ball into the box more often. The one time they did, Ortega earned a penalty. With all those close-control skills - they just went to waste banging all those passes in against 10 defenders.

Never mind, not many will mind seeing the back of those guys. Mind you, not many will mind facing Sweden in the knockouts either ...
:goodjob:

Great defence by sweden. Really bad beginning by sweden. When Andreas Andersson came in, sweden finally made some offense and could hold on to the ball more. I guess it was quite a shock for them to be outplayed so badly in the beginning.

It's just TOO BAD that argentina went home. I would really have liked to see more of them in the world cup.
