New version, Monarch difficulty, 600AD unlocked. I'm at the University now, so I don't have time for a detailed report.
The difficult objective is the first, the other two are manageable.
I colonized asap the city near Cartago and captured the barbarian one on the east. I waited some turns for Sailing to settle in Marocco. The other cities came later. With sailing, you start with a Harbour and your new cities will not starve to death. I researched only Fishing, got Sailing from Spain, then 0% until the first objective was done (at the 3rd try).
Then, feudalism, machinery, then 0% again until the second was done.
Got civil service with gold, it's worth it to get beaurocracy.
before the end, I researched only Guilds and Banking, getting some spare techs from the others (calendar for exaple).
I got 3 great people, 2 merchants and an engineer (all settled). I had almost lost for the engineer, who came last and due to a free engineer gained from a quest. The plague also hit me hard some turns before the end.
I also didn't settle on place, so Timbuktu had all the floodplains, the gold and the cotton.

Farewell

I told ya its possible because I also did it.

Unfortunately, they don't want to believe me.

Riker, how much money do you have?

I told them there that you need to like capture cities but they don't believe me.

You can tell rhye about this.

Ummm...... Riker, how do you upload pictures and how did you get them? I really wanted to upload my game with Mali.

Riker
Oct 11, 2007, 04:52 AM
To upload, use the easy upload button, near the quote one. Then, paste the link after clickin' the insert image one. I don't have internet, only at the university, so atm I can't play multyplayer.
There are two tricks with Mali:
- you must embrace Jesus Christ (and believe me, I'm the last one in the world who would do that), because you'll be safe from war (I've never been at war with anyone in my game) and you'll get 4 free hammers from the apostolic palace in cities with christianity.
- Abuse your free wins against barbarians, you got many. The only problem are the Impis, whowill always had for the hill with the gold or the cottages

Remember also to ask everyone every few turns for free gold, sometimes you'll get it. Trade the horses and all the resources you don't need, even if you've got only one and even for only 1gpt

Impis are annoying. They attack your cities and pillage your improvements. Camel Archers are also a problem, which they can defeat 2 skirmishers but luckily, you have ivory to create elephants.

Well, about that christianity........ at first I don't have a state religion but when Joao came and gave me a free missionary, I spread that religion.

How much money you have?

Riker

Before the plague in the end, around 500 gpt, building money. The camel archers are not a problem, I ended the game without running out of free wins

Nothing really. Its just my old pride and joy (a 3 year 4 months old Alienware) is sort of getting long in the tooth. It still uses AGP. As it happens my new puter arrived after I posted that and im using it now. Not as fancy as the old Alien this time but still decent. A Chillblast fusion falcon. I got the 64 bit version of Vista and 4 gig to make Civ IV go whizzy. Problem is I just discovered my Civ IV vanilla disc is damage on the data2.cab file and I cant install it anymore. Arf! I feel a trip to game coming on tommorow.

Zhuge_Liang

AGP, not the newest, PCI? AGP is obsolete, PCI is new but I think CIV 4 won't run on PCI.

Wait....... did you said vista?

You have one?

In my opinion, my classmate has it and trust me, it loads for ages, man. I wass going to buy it last month but when I tried my classmate's PC. It discourage me eventhough it has new styles and graphics.

The games that are compatible with vista are too few.

I think you'll have to solve it yourself.

I know AGP cards are obselete thats why I upgraded partly. PCIe or PCI express is the new standard graphics card interphase. My Alien had the best possible AGP card you could get (a Gainward golden sample 7800) but it was still pushing it with Civ in the later stages of hugh games (although that wasnt just the G Card that was slow down due to the chip and speed of the mobo and HD's too).

The new puter is Vista 64 bit and runs like a dream. Im off to buy a new copy of Civ IV today and test it out but the other games I have played (Quake Wars and Total War) run so fast and smooth its a massive improvement. I have done bench marks with 3D mark and stuff too and this PC is pretty kick ass. At least for a couple of months anyway hehe.

'course the thing is I have two HD's in this machine too so that I can make a dual boot with XP on one and Vista 64 on the other. That way I shall have no gaming issues...probably.

What do you mean "dream"? Is it that slow?

How many MB?

Mine is 512 MB VG.

Quake wars? Isn't it like Sci-fi?

Total war is cool.

No gaming issues? You'll probably have like this:
" I had compared vista to XP and trust me, Vista is slow................." or something like this:
" Can somebody help me? Vista is down to my rankings."

One last thing...... Do you have 3D accelerators?

When I say runs like a dream I mean it runs very very good.

Dual core overclocked to 3ghz, 4gigs of Ram, GeForce 8800 GTS with 640mb, Vista 64, RaZer Barracuda headset, Death Adder mouse and Tarantula keyboard, NZXT Hush black and chrome case and other bids and bobs. I will be buying an X-Fi Fatal1ty at a later date because currently the drivers arent compatible with Vista 64 (according to the manufacturers). 2 HD's 320gig each Seagate Barracudas Sata II 16mb Cache at 7200 and a 20" widescreen Samsung monitor with a refresh rate of 2ms supposadly.

Yoour's a laptop, right?

Mine is the ol' CPU.

Like you, it has a processing memory of 3 gigahertz, ATI RADEON 9500c with 256 MB(my first one, still using it because the 512 MB is in the intensive care unit of maintenance), XP professional(I think, not home), LG mouse(the original dell was thrown because of faulty ball), Dell keyboard, wait........ 4 gigs of ram means that its your total storage space in Drive C, right? If that, I have 80 GB.

Have a 3D accelerator(dunno that brand.... too excited to use it that I throw it away accidentally. If someone knows it, it has a black cover and a green streak of color in the middle).

Vista 64 is very good, but I think in my experience, it takes forever to shut down this computer.

Do vista64 has a diff. with vista?

Sorry for the thread Hijack Riker.

Nah mine is a Desktop too. I dont like Laptops. I dont know anyone that has ever bought a laptop that hasnt had problems with it after 6 months. I wouldnt buy a laptop if I was forced too. ;)

Your G card sounds like a Gainward or a Ledtek card. They use a lot of green and black imagery.

The differences between Vista 32 and Vista 64 are fairly numerous but the bottom line to remember is that all the current CPU's are 64 bit chips and that in order to use more than 2gig of ram a PC has to have a 64bit operating system. Eventually all operating systems will be 64bit but its not something I would recommend to anyone at the moment.

Stick to Windows XP 32 if you want trouble free gaming for the time being.

Well, no issues yet, I think.

I have a laptop but strictly for(educational use?) No! It's for contributing FAQS, cheats, reaviews and sceenshots to gamefaqs!

This stupid keyboard always stucks like when you press capslock and you immediately type a word, it will not type and you will just have to ummmmmm.......... reset or restart you computer.

Gainward and Ledtek, what's that?

Imagine how easily a Mali UHV could be prevented in MP. Hell, imagine how easy it is to prevent any UHV in MP.

Maybe I should have settled near Carthage first instead of Morocco. Also 2 plagues in 1200 and 1450 don't help.

Daloa is a pretty useless city, at least in the beginning. You must wait to have Harbors to settle it (as other cities), at least it won't starve immediately to death

Tweaked a little bit and won by more than a thousand gold. Key was to not whip every little bank/market/grocer from every city and to bargain hard from other civs for Engineering so I can build castles. (Bought some techs like gunpowder (from Mongolians who still don't have Divine Right) and drama at the end to boost my Ethelred the Unready score) :crazyeye:
I'm going to write this up (with credit to you and Zhuge Liang of course).

Tried it 3 times in emperor, once with the 3000BC start. 1900 gold isn't enough anymore. Is there anyway Rhye can make Mali start with more gold?
(And shouldn't Mali have guilds to start?)
