View Full Version : After 1.61 patch, English language/alphabet lost

I recently bought Civ IV (an English version in the U.S.) and installed it. Had lots of problems w/ slow speed, audio stuttering, etc., but thankfully at least everything was in English. I read about the 1.61 patch and downloaded it from the 2k games site and installed it. Now when I start up the game, all the menus appear to be in a non-Latin-alphabet language (oriental? Arabic?) that I cannot read. I clicked on one selection that appeared to roll the credits for the game, but all the characters were simply blue boxes. I checked the Coniguration .ini file and language was set to 0 (English). Can anyone tell me what happened and how to fix it? Thanks.

Yeah, get a computer capable of running the game.

As a new member of this forum I had hoped for something slightly more helpful. Anyone else have an idea?

Note that 1.74 (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=6183) is the latest patch. So install that, see if it fixes your problem, and if that doesn't work, do a complete reinstall of the game.
