While short, Portal has one of the best end sequences I can remember in a game. Funny and creepy at the same time.

Yes, it is one of the games in the Orange Box. It is essentially a First-Person Puzzler (not a shooter as the only "weapon" you get is the Portal Gun).

Yeah, for me Orange Box is annoying, since I already have Half-Life 2 and Ep1, but paying $20 each for Portal, Team Fortess 2 and Ep 2 isn't bad (since I'm going to gift HL2 and Ep1 to a friend).

Still have to buy it. I hope it's availiable locally.

EDIT: Just looked at the Futureshop website, it's $54.99 for PC, $59.99 for X-Box 360, and $64.99 for PS3 (released Nov 7th).

Good for me as I never played HL2 when it came out (computer couldn't handle it, changed now)

Yeah, plus even if you may not like the gameplay of HL2 (since there isn't much skill needed for most of the weapons) there are TONNES of mods, which can be very different from the game.

I just beat portal after ONE DAY OF PLAY and i consider myself a genius :rotfl: jk

actually, i think that this game is a work of art, and takes the FPS genre forward past shooting. I only wish that it was longer, but then again, the ending sequence was WELL worth it :D

Bought Orange Box yesterday (It's more of a neon orange), played a bit of Portal Ep2 and TF2, great games. Loving it. Too bad I still have to work for the next 3 nights, but I have 5 days off after that (I only work part time).

Played all 3 new games on my friends computer and all are fun. Now to scrounge up enough money to buy the actual thing for myself.

It's after that room with that rocket launcher or something thing that breaks open two windows for you.

Put a portal opposite the window then go back to the rocket launcher where it can see you and put a portal behind you and get it to fire a rocket through the portal. You'll have to get it to fire a missile at the Aperture Science Weighted Storage device tube as well.

Well, considering that as we see in Episode 2, the next locale will revolve around Borealis, a ship fielded by the Aperture Science company, Im pretty sure there's going to be some tie-in with the games. It would be interesting to have both the main character from Portal ( Chell I think, or that mightave changed ) and Alyx by your side. One would use the machine-gun pistol, the other the portal gun..

One thing that is odd, why aren't there any Xen aliens in Apeture Labs? If they were unleashed everywhere in the world... Unless GLADOS got rid of them.

Found the cake, sort of, I have no idea where that room is, but I do know that, as much as I like cake, I don't want to go back into that maze. Also love the new menu background.

And the end credits (which I tried ot take a screenshot of each full page of the song but after a bit it changed pages too fast.

Is there a way to find the credit's song and put it into MP3 format or something? (It would just be so I could listen to it.)

After Half-Life 1. I was reading a thread on the Steam forums about it's relation to Half-Life, there were a lot of theories (most probably wrong or off).

But here's what I think might have happened;

Bring Your Daughter to Work Day ended up with the daughters in stasis cells.

At a time (or maybe during) after that Half-Life 1 happened.

There is not a single corpse to be found so it is assumed people either became test subjects or fled during the 7 Hour War.

The facility was kept clear of Xen by GLaDOS's use of neurotoxins.

GLaDOS might have become self-aware on BYDTWD.

Time passes.

It's possible GLaDOS became self aware later on and before was reacting to it's programming.

GLaDOS continues experiments.

Since Apeture and Mesa were competing for funding, I beleive that AS is in the former USA somewhere. Especially judging by the last scene.

In Episode 3 the Borealis will be a focus, but I do not think that Chell will be appearing since Gordon is probably in Russia and Chell is in the former USA.

There are so many theories on how the two will relate. I personally dont have one of my own, but Im sure Portal was a way to introduce AS to the player for its further role in Episode 3. Because you can bet that as soon as the Borealis bit came up and it had the AS logo on there, you knew it would be your next destination.

Seeing now that Eli has died, we can also expect one of two things from Alyx:
She goes with you and kicks some combine rear end all over the place, maybe even punching an advisor with her bare fists, unless she can find an AR3 ( Cookie if you get where this is from )
She could stay behind, now emotionally broken, leaving you to fight on your own, or possibly with the protagonist from Portal, Chell.

The first is more likely, knowing how tough our girl is ( She survived getting stabbed by a hunter for christs sake, although just barely)

I wonder if it's the living remains of GLaDOS on the Borealis if the events of Portal take place before the Black Mesa incident.

And I'm sure it's before the Black Mesa incident as the Combine REALLY wants instantaneous and energy efficient portal technology on the same plane of existence instead of portaling between different universes. Otherwise the Aperture campus would already have been overrun by the Combine as they aren't really concerned about casualties at least from the Transhuman wing and wouldn't let a little nerve gas stop them.

It could be they just dont know about Aperture or they just dismissed it as unimportant. (They made shower curtains for a good part of their history) Plus GLaDOS warns you that there is something outside and that something happened and that she cant protect you if you destroy her.

Portal story is definitively post the 7 minute war.

The Borealis disappeared before the Black Mesa incident, so pre-200X (since the calenders in Half-Life are labled 200X). And as Cleric says above, GLaDOS knows about the Xen and Combine. Or at least the Xen.

The Borealis is also almost a legend/myth as (Kleiner?) stated in Ep2, so I bet it was lost in the 1990s.

Btw, to correct Cleric, its the *7 hour* war....7 minutes is what Eli says will happen if the Combine attack again, shortly before he...well, you know.
Speaking of that, that ending almost made me cry..

I consider that the ending cus after that long cut-scene, the rest of the game was easy ( I rock at using the grav gun, so the Strider scene was easy for me )

I think GLaDOS was just saying there was something outside to prevent you from going further. She constantly says stuff and I'm sure you've realized her ability to lie.

Heh, I didn't even realise it was out until today. Was forced to decide between it and FM08, ultimately thinking it would be best to buy both :p
