View Full Version : An Oncoming Train Wreck - Beginners HoI2 AAR

So now that I have my copy of HoI Anthology, it's time to make my own AAR.

Now, I doubt that this will actually turn into a train wreck. I'll probably have a fairly easy time. But I'm sure I'll make all sorts of stupid mistakes. Luckily though, after all of the AARs I've read, I've managed to absorb a fair amount of basic information. i.e. don't start researching technology unless you've reached the appropriate year. So that will at least help me out.

So here it goes:

Country Germany
Difficulty Very Easy :mischief:
AI Aggresiveness Normal
Version Doomsday v 1.3a (JCJS)

To begin, the German military is scattered throughout the county. Knowing that Europe is a powderkeg waiting to explode, divisions are shifted around. The divisions on the Austrian and Czech borders are moved to the French and Polish borders, as Austria and Czechoslovakia won't be existing much longer. The entire German navy is shifted from ports along the North Sea into the safer ports along the Baltic. The last thing I need is to end up losing them to the British until sea strength is adequate enough to defend itself.

Production is immediately focused on expanding current industry. Additional factories are ordered for various provinces right away and scheduled to be completed in mid-December, 1936. Left over IC is used to produce a few Infantry units to bolster the numbers of the German military.

As German forces moved towards the borders, divisions arrive in Cologne, thus breaking a stipulation of the Treaty of Versailles by re-occupation of the Rhineland. The act immediately sours relations with the UK, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/rhineland.png

Midway through the year, war broke out on the Iberian peninsula. Spain had fallen into a civil war, fought between the Communist-backed Republicans and Fascist-backed Nationalists.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/spanishcw.png

The German government opted to send supplies to Franco and his Nationalist forces. Supplies and money were shipped in an attempt to help out the Nationalists in their conquest of Spain. Just like the Rhineland re-occupation, this action angered the French and British, while also bringing Germany slightly closer to Italy. A Nationalist win would provide Germany with a potentially friendly nation.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/intervention.png

After a few months of fighting, the two sides had established a long frontline stretching east-west across Spain. The Nationalists had taken control of the north of the country, including the capital of Madrid. The Republicans meanwhile, had taken the south of the country, as well as the Balearic Islands, and the Moroccan colonies. The front lines seemed to be rather stable with only the occasional change between the two sides. Over time, only small changes had been made to the borders. The Republicans took Salamanca, while the Nationalists took Castellon.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/spanishcw2.png

By mid-December the last of the new factories had been completed, increasing the German industrial capacity. German industry immediately began constructing weapons and vehicles for the war effort, with large numbers of tanks and rifles being produced.

I'd recommend always having at least 3 infantry divisions being trained at any one time, at least up to around 1941. As you're playing on an easier difficulty, you could probably get away with training 6 without sacrificing IC.

You didn't mention a council for this AAR, but if there is one I would be proud to administrate the Ministry of Silly Walks in your absence ;)

As the year 1936 ended, and 1937 began, German industry continued to produce rifles and tanks for the German military. The majority of the IC was now committed to the production of these goods, with some additional IC put aside to expanding German industry. Meanwhile, in early 1937, German diplomats sought to improve relations with Italy and Japan by signing the Anti-Comintern Pact. The purpose of this pact was to try to contain the growth of global Communism. As a result of the pact, relations with the Soviet Union were slightly damaged.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/anticomintern.png

The Spanish Civil War continued to rage on as the Nationalists and Republicans fought over control of the country. Soon however, the Nationalists broke through in Valencia and began to push southwards. Soon the Republicans had been pushed deep into the south of the country making it obvious that the Nationalists would eventually claim victory. The advance slowed down, but gradually the Nationalists defeated the Republicans, who promptly surrendered.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/nationalistspain.png

With the Nationalist victory in Spain, German soldiers who had been sent to assist now returned home. The Condor Legion had tested out much of the new German weaponry and tactics for the first time.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/condor.png

In March 1938, Germany formed a union with Austria called Anchluss. This act had been forbidden according to the Treaty of Versailles, but France and the UK made no moves to prevent it. Austria's neighbours, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and Italy, were also alarmed by the move.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/ancshluss.png

The Austrian army now flew the German flag, with 16 divisions swearing allegiance the the Fuhrer, in addition to 1 bomber wing. The forces were quickly reassigned, with 9 divisions stationed along the Italian and Yugoslavian borders, with the rest be redeployed to the French and Polish borders.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/austrianarmy.png

In the summer of 1938, Germany laid claim to the Czech Sudetenland. Seeking to avoid conflict, the Treaty of Munich was signed between Chamberlain, Hitler, Mussolini, and Daladier. According to the treaty, Sudetenland would be ceded to Germany, and Germany promised that this would be the last of it's territorial expansions.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/czech.png

Later in 1939, Czechoslovakia came to an end. The country was split in two, with Slovakia taking the east of the country, with Germany annexing the rest. The Germans set up a puppet government in Slovakia and took control of the military.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/czech.png

In August 1939, Soviet and German ministers signed the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, outlining German and Soviet spheres of influence, as well as forming a non-aggression pact between the countries. Following an invasion of Poland, the country would be split, with the fates of the Baltic countries and Finland placed in the hands of the Soviets.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/molotov.png

A week later, Germany issued an ultimatum to Poland; Cede Danzig or face war. Having a guarantee of independence from France and the UK, the Poles bravely refused, putting the two countries in a state of war. Germany was now at war with Poland, France, and the British Empire.

Use your fast troops (cavalry/tanks/MEC/MOT) to create pockets of enemy troops. Then use a combination of infantry and whatever you have behind your lines to crush the pockets, as this will destroy them utterly (while attacking them outright will simply force them to retreat).

Oh, and in terms of industry, remember to research industrial techs, machine tools etc. These are VITAL for your industry. An don't forget the agricultural techs, as Germany manpower is going to be in short supply when you invade the Soviet Union.

Also: NEVER use your infantry as a garrison (partisan suppression), use the garrison unit instead, it's trained faster than a militia, thus it shouldn't impact your economy

The war in Poland began on August 30, 1939. The Germans immediately advanced into the Poland with two main thrusts. The first was an armoured column in the north which rolled through Danzig before turning south in Elbing and advancing towards Warsaw. The second thrust was an infantry advance from the south, which would meet with the armoured divisions outside Warsaw. The Germans quickly had the Polish defenders on the retreat as they headed towards the capital. A large pocket had developed around Poznan, with 14 Polish divisions encircled by the German army.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/poznan.png

By September 10, Warsaw had fallen and the Poles quickly surrendered. Germany annexed the western portion of Poland, while the Soviets moved in and occupied the east.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/poland.png

As part of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, the Soviets would receive the east of Poland. The nation was split in two and now the Germans faced their opponents on only one front.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/mrsovietse.png

For a month since the start of the war, German and French soldiers had occupied defensive positions along the border. The French were gradually building up forces along the Maginot Line, while the Germans continued to build up for an invasion. By early October, 6 Panzer divisons had arrived from Poland, and 15 new Infantry divisions had been recruited for the Western front. Now with 74 divisions dedicated solely to the invasion, and another 30 defending the border, the Germans began their attack. In order to achieve their objectives, a declaration of war was sent to Belgium.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/belgium.png

On October 6, German forces crossed the border. The German Panzers quickly rolled through the Belgian countryside. 5 divisions became encircled in Bastogne while more German soldiers marched towards Ghent. The German forces quickly moved through Belgium and advanced into France. German Panzers quickly rolled towards the French capital while the Infantry moved to encircle the Maginot Line and the Channel coast. By October 18, German forces had taken Paris. Meanwhile, 18 French divisions had begun to move westwards in an attempt to beat back the Germans.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/october18.png

With war raging on in Europe, other non-aligned countries began to take advantage of the situation to further their goals. The Italians sent a declaration of war against the Greeks. Before the Italians could begin their advance however, the Yugoslavians declared war on the Italians. Yugoslavia had guaranteed Greece's independence, and sought to prevent the Italians from expanding their power in the Balkans.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/italygreece.png
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/yugoitaly.png

With the Germans deep into French territory, the French hopes lay solely on the 25 divisions that were now facing the Germans in the east. With the Maginot Line now breached, the 30 divisions sent to guard the border were now free to assist in the conquest of France. The German forces stationed along the Dutch and Luxembourgian borders now moved in on those countries. To everyone's surpise however, France surrendered and was replaced by the German backed Vichy regime. Taking advantage of the fall of the French government, the colonies of Lebanon and Syria proclaimed their independence. Vichy now controlled southern France, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, West Africa, French Guiana, and the French possessions in teh Caribbean and South Pacific. However, a small group of French resistors still remained in Equatorial Africa.

What kind of divisions?
Do I now just sit back and prepare for Barbarossa?
Any other advice is welcome.

Kan' Sharuminar

I normally keep at least one infantry division on beach provinces, and build up their coastal fortifications to 10. I sometimes have a couple of motorised/mechanised infantry divisions scattered that can respond quickly to an Allied invasion of Europe. As for the rest of France, just garrison units to pacify the region, send the rest of the army to the Russian front.

Best options now are to conquer the rest of Europe (join Italy against Yugoslavia/Greece) in order to push into Africa, and invade Britain. Alternatively, prepare your forces for an invasion of Russia in early 1940 ;)

Very nice destruction of the French though, good to see them fall before Christmas.

I really lucked out against France though. That 25 division stack was a real pain, especially since I wasn't having any luck in trying to encircle them. Lucky for me the Vichy event was triggered, and took care of that.

I would recommand that you build some CAS forces and Naval Bombers. The first are great against the Russian hordes (bomb them in oblivion while they are retreating, especially in places where it takes up to a month to go to the next province). The latter are great to reduce the British navy. Some consider naval bombers to be gamey, but if that doesn't bother you, then they are great to make the British navy an artificial reef.

EDIT: another tactic to consider is building massive amounts of u-boats and sink the entire supply navy of the british. That makes the British empire like a crippled, old man...

BTW, what causes the Soviet AI to surrender (the Bitter peace event). In my last game as Germany, I totally smashed their border armies. I didn't play it as usual, you know, play it safe tactics with only minor encirclements. I took the risk and encircled at least 15-20 divisions in Latvia, 10-15 divisions near Odessa and nearly 20 divisions in Pripjat. Then, the AI was stupid enough to amass its troops near Kiev which I left only lightly defended. When they had almost 20 divisions near the province, I launched an attack from the south and encircled most of them. Another blow was delivered in Smolensk (I think, I am not sure what the name was) - 10 divisions.

Soviets were totally paralyzed. In desperation, they garrisoned Moscow with huge number of divisions, I think about 30 divisions. I encircled them in October, at the same time I cut off Leningrad and trapped another 10 divisions.

I planned to let them starve during the winter and destroy them the next year, knowing you have to capture Leningrad, Stalingrad, Moscow, Baku and one other victory point east of Ural to force the Soviets to sue for peace. But they surrendered few week after I encircled Moscow. I was totally surprised by this. The fact is they lost almost 2/3 of their army - could it force the AI to give up?

Kan' Sharuminar
Oct 16, 2007, 12:32 PM
There is a possibility of them surrendering quickly if you are not at war with the Allies. I think it depends on the amount of Soviet national provinces conquered, rather than having to capture specific provinces.

Bitter Peace happens if:

Germany or Vichy France owns Paris
The Soviet Union has lost control of the following: Moscow, Leningrad, Stalingrad, Baku and Sverdlovsk. If Japan is also at war with the Soviet Union, it is either Sverdlovsk or Vladivostok.
Germany must not be at war with Italy.

There is also an alternative BP event which will indeed trigger if Germany is not at war with the Allies. The only condition is that the Soviet Union looses 25% of it's national provinces. It's highly unlikely to trigger though, as you would need to annex all of the Allies, which is kind of hard to do without being stomped by the Soviets at the same time.

With the Germans rolling through Western Europe, the Soviets turned their attention to their neighbours, Finland. In November 1939, the Winter War was started. Germany sent supplies to Finland to give them some support against the Soviets.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/winterwar.png

With northern France now under German control, the French airbases were made the new home of the Luftwaffe. Reichsmarschall von Scamp was given the task of subduing the British with an unrestrained air war. German fighters and interceptors immediately began patrolling the English Channel and skies of England and Wales, while German bombers began to target British airfields.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/BoB.png

Looking to improve relations with their Fascist brethren in Italy, German forces began to prepare for an assault on Yugoslavia. As German forces arrived, the Italians had retaken Venice and were beginning to move in on Rijeka. German infantry crossed over into Slovenia and began their assault.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/yugoslavia.png

Before long, the Italians approached the Germans with hopes of forming an alliance with them. Their proposal was accepted and Italy joined the Second World War on the side of the Axis. Italians forces in Libya began to move against the British in Egypt.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/italy.png

With German forces moving in from Austria and Italian forces coming from Albania in the south, the Yugoslavians were quickly pushed into the hills surrounding Belgrade and Uzice. Surprisingly, the Yugoslavians managed to hold off an attack made by the Germans, despite being outnumbered significantly.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/annexyugo.png

In order to help with pacify the area, the Germans created a puppet state in Croatia. Three Croatian infantry divisions were formed to help the Germans.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/croatia.png

By the Spring of 1940, the Luftwaffe had succeeded in grounding the RAF. Very few bombing raids were being launched against Germany, and most that did would usually be intercepted on their return. The airstrips in Dover, Portsmouth, and Norwich had been completely bombed out, and plans were being made to begin to target British ports.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/BoB1.png

In Spring 1940, Fall Weserübung began. War was declared on Denmark and Norway, with land units marching into Denmark immediately.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/dennor.png

The Danes quickly surrendered, giving the Germans the ability to completely block off the Baltic Sea from the Royal Navy. The Norwegian campaign started soon afterwards, with an amphibious assault on the Norwegian coast at Stavanger. It was here that the Kriegsmarine got its first victims, the Norwegian cruisers Eidsvold and Norge.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/fallweserung.png

Feeling over-confident, the Kriegsmarine departed on patrols out into the North Sea. However, they soon encountered a British aircraft carrier and its escorts. Things quickly turned against the Germans as 5 ships were sunk, which included the heavy cruisers Graf Spee and Admiral Scheer. The Kriegsmarine's lost two of it's three cruisers. The only solace that could be gained from this loss is that the Graf Spee took the British battleship Resolution down with it.

Yeah, that could be it. I conquered Britain, triggered the "Negotiated peace" event and they accepted it (I think there is 50% chance for the AI to accept). I wanted Britain out before I invade the USSR and I wanted to prove that that it's possible to successfuly invade Britain with a weak navy and no air superiority.

Pretty much all of those soldiers in France are just one division infantry. And the reason the Soviet forces look so large is because the AI doesn't seem to like to group divisions together, preferring to keep them as individuals, so they stack up quite high. Britain is weak. Do some bombing missions to find out what kind of troops they have. Chances are they just have few garrisons and infantry divisions.

If you have few transport ships, you could rebase them to Cherbourg and strike Britain when they don't expect it.

I used paratroopers to secure a beachhead and then transported my infantry with unprotected transports. The trick is to move fast, unload the troops and return back to safety of the harbour. If you stay on sea for too long, the Royal Navy will come to get you, but if you're fast enough, they just can't do anything about it.

Once you have 12+ divisions on the British soil, they're finished, you just have to move quickly to the North, or they bring in reinforcements from the rest of their Empire (it takes them a month or so).

On the other hand, once Britain is out of the game (you can actually make them join the Axis  ) and there's peace with the Allies, Russians don't get anything from the US and they're more likely to surrender.

With the fall of Yugoslavia, Greece was the only remaining Allied nation in the Balkans. With the Italians failing to make progress, the German Wehrmacht advanced towards the border. In order to quickly take Greece out of the war Salonika and Athens were targeted as the primary objectives. German Panzers quickly rushed towards Athens while German infantry engaged the Greeks in the fortified area around Salonika. Once both areas had fallen, the Italians quickly annexed the rest of the country.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/greece.png

Relations between Germany and the fascist government of Hungary had been steadily improving over the previous months. Soon after the capture of Greece, Hitler offered to make Hungary a member of the Axis. The Hungarians quickly accepted joined the German war effort.

Soviet forces along the border were miniscule compared to the massive army the Germans had gathered. However, German intelligence reports indicated that the Soviets had a rather large army that was most likely stationed in the interior. The German advance consisted of three main groups. In the north along the Lithuanian border, 34 divisions would push northwards to Leningrad. In the center, 46 divisions would push towards Moscow, and in the south, 43 divisions of German and Hungarian soldiers would push through Ukraine towards Stalingrad and the south. An additional 51 divisions were positioned between the groups and would assist them with their objectives along the way.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/russianfront.png

German Panzers quickly rolled across the countryside, quickly taking much of Belarus and Ukraine. The infantry followed to close in on the Russian troops encircled by the fast moving tanks. The Germans were approaching Kiev and deep into Belarus, when the Soviets made a confusing diplomatic move...declaring war on the Baltic states. Now the Germans had unofficial allies in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/baltics.png

While the Wehrmacht was busy with the intense fighting in Russia, the German forces that had landed in Norway were now finishing off their mission. They pushed up the Norwegian coast in pursuit of the only NOrwegian division that hadn't been defeated. As they took the port of Narvik, the Norwegians officially surrendered.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/norway.png

In the Ukraine, the Germans had taken Kiev and advanced south towards Crimea. A group of Soviet infantry and armour had taken up defensive positions around Odessa attempting to halt the German advance of mostly infantry. 11 Panzer divisions headed south from Kiev along the Dneiper river and succeeded in cutting off over 20 Soviet divisions from their supply routes. Once the encirclement was complete, the Germans began closing in from all sides, eventually destroying the Soviets.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/odessapocket.png

With the Soviet campaign going well, a bold new plan was put into place. In a combined strike using paratroopers and amphibious landings, the Germans made their first landing in Britain. From the airstrip in Lille, 6 transport planes took off and paradropped into Norwich. At the same time, the Kriegsmarine had snuck out of the Baltic Sea and rebased in Ghent. As soon as the planes were in the sky, they set out across the channel to land in coordination with the airdrops. The paratroopers landed unhassled and quickly seized the port, allowing the German ships to sail right in. With 12 divisions now in England, the Germans marched into London, which was suprisingly undefended.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/airdrop.png

With the Germans quickly advancing through Russia, the Soviets campaign against the Baltic states was far from successful. Their only real victories came against Estonia, which they soon annexed, however the Latvians managed to push the Soviets right out of their country and began advancing into Soviet Estonia.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/estonia.png

By the end of July, the Germans had reached reached Moscow, and were closing in on Leningrad and Stalingrad. The Soviets were quick to set up the defense of their capital, which was being constantly bombarded by German and Hungarian planes. With 47 divisions on the city limits, the Germans attempted to take the city. Despite facing only 20 divisions, the Germans were unable to advance any further. German commanders sat back and waited for reinforcements to arrive. Soon, more German divisions arrived, and another attempt was made at the city. This too, would prove futile, as the Soviets fiercly defended their capital. By the end of August, German Panzers had completed an encirclement of the city. Hitler had demanded that the city be taken before the winter arrived. The Russians fought just as fiercly as before, but this time the Germans were successful. 24 Soviet divisions were killed or captured as the Germans triumphantly took control of Moscow. By now, the Germans had completely routed the Soviets in the south and were marching through in the face of almost no resistance. Stalingrad had fallen, and 6 Panzer divisions were rushing towards Baku. In the north, Soviet forces were still holding back the German advances. So far they had successfully defended Leningrad, and were holding back the Germans in Karelia.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/moscow.png

Germany's newest ally, Hungary, was feeling confident in the new power they held as a member of the Axis. As a result, they demanded that Romania cede lands that had once belonged to them. Fearful of German reprisals, the Romanians reluctantly accepted the Vienna Dictate which gave parts of Transylvania to Hungary.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/viennadictate.png

Back on the British front, German forces quickly pushed across the English countryside, taking all of the major English cities. Soon all of England and Wales had fallen and 4 British divisions were all that remained for the defense Scotland against the 12 German divisions.

Two questions about the game;

1) Why are you using those unit icons instead of the icosn that look like tanks/planes/etc?

2) Why are some ports blue and others grey?

2)Blue ports mean there is a ship in port. Grey means there isn't. Same with airports.

Strange, you don't even need large navy. I managed to successfuly invade Britain with only 6 transports. Just unload your troops and get the hell out of the open sea. Wait a while, and then repeat until you have enough troops there.

If they keep crushing your force while trying to carry out an amphibious assault, use paratroopers to secure a beachhead first.

With Britain under German control, authority of the northern half of the island was handed over to the new puppet government of Scotland. The new government was loyal to Germany and soon raised a Scottish army to free up German units garrisoning the region.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/scotland.png

In the east, the German advance continued to push through Russia. With the fall of Moscow, the 47 divisions that had been besieging the city were now free to assist in the conquest of the rest of they country. 11 divisions headed north to the siege of Leningrad. The city had previously resisted a German attack, but the defenders quickly lost the battle to the much larger German force. In the south, German semi-motorized cavalry charged across the Urals into Chelyabinsk and Sverdlovsk, two of the larger industrial centers still under Soviet authority. With this, the Soviets finally broke down, and approached the Germans seeking a peace treaty. The Germans laid down their demands, and the Soviets reluctantly accepted. All Russian land west of the Urals was ceded to Germany, Soviet-occupied Persia was handed over, and Finland received the lands they lost in the Winter War, as well as Murmansk and the Kola peninsula. The media would later dub this "The Bitter Peace".

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/bitterpeace.png

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/newborders.png

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/finland.png

With the Soviet Union defeated, the Germans now had access to new battlefields against the British in the Middle East. Soon German reinforcements arrived and German forces pushed into Persia. German infantry surrounded Teheran as Rommel and his Panzer divisions entered Iraq. Soon the Wehrmacht had moved south and captured the Persian coast, as well as the oil rich province of Abadan, and annexed the country.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/persia.png

Seeing the success enjoyed by their neighbours, the Romanians sent an envoy to Berlin to ask to join the Axis. Hitler accepted, knowing he could use the Romanian soldiers to garrison his newly acquired Russian territories.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/Romania.png

Rommel quickly drove through northern and western Iraq before entering the British Transjordan. More Panzer divisions arrived from the north and rolled through the Iraqi desert. Soon the capital of Baghdad had fallen. The British and Iraqi soldiers had retreated to the port city of Basrah as German forces attacked from the north and east. German forces were much more numerous than those of the British, and they were forced to retreat into Kuwait. With the fall of Basrah, the Iraqis surrendered, while the British soldiers would soon surrender once the Germans entered Kuwait.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/iraq.png

Rommel's forces quickly rolled through Palestine and arrived in the Sinai peninsula and managed to capture the Suez. Rommel and his forces waited here until more divisions could arrive from Iraq to support them and they could help their Italian allies in north Africa.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/suez.png

In order to reach the British colonies and allies at the southern end of the Arabian peninsula, the Germans would have to go through Saudi lands. Knowing that they would never allow this, German forces invaded. Before long Riyadh was in German hands and the Saudis surrendered. German divisions moved on to the British territories to the south.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/arabia.png

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/annexarabia.png

With 19 divisions now having arrived in Suez, Rommel and his newly formed Afrika Corps pushed into Egypt. Cairo fell quickly and the Germans crossed the Nile. Soon the British forces in Northern Egypt had been cut off from those in the rest of Africa. Rommel began to push the British west, entrapping them between the advancing German panzers and the Italian defensive line.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/afrikakorps.png

In the east, Japan had been having trouble against the combined forces of the Nationalist and Communist Chinese. Whenever they tried to advance, the Nationalists would drive them back. Seeing how much difficulty the Japanese were having against the Chinese, Hitler was puzzled when Japan declared war on much more advanced foes, the British, Dutch, and Americans. This greatly angered the Fuhrer, as the Americans joined the Allies, meaning they had also gone to war with the Germans.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/pearlharbour.png

Back in Arabia, the Germans advanced into Yemen and Oman, with their governments quickly surrendering. All that was left was a few British divisions wandering the vast deserts of Arabia. The British soldiers were quick to surrender and Arabia was in German hands. Yemen and Oman were immediately regranted independence as German puppets.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/omanyemen.png

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/omanyemenind.png

By mid April, 1941, Rommel's forces had eliminated the British in Egypt and Libya, seized Sudan, and was pushing into Ethiopia. To the east, the Wehrmacht had advanced into India. The British government had taken exile in Delhi, but now the Germans were closing in. On the diplomatic front, relations were steadily improving with Spain, Finland, Latvia, Lebanon, and Syria. It was hoped that these nations could soon be brought into the Axis, especially Spain. With Spain in the Axis, they could seize Gibraltar and seal off the Mediterranean.

In late April, German diplomats had finally convinced Franco to join the Axis. Spain declared war on the Allies and the army mobilized. Much of the Spanish forces were placed under German authority.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/Spain.png

Eight Spanish divisions soon attacked the British base at Gibraltar. The British quickly surrendered and Gibraltar was back under Spanish control. With it and the Suez under Axis occupation, the Mediterranean was now completely locked down, accessible only to the Axis and neutral countries. The British colonies of Sardinia, Malta, and Cyprus were now left to fend for themselves, unable to be resupplied.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/Gibraltar.png

Soon after the fall of Gibraltar, a new nation joined the Axis. The small Middle Eastern nation of Lebanon accepted the German offer. Lebanese forces crossed the border into Palestine to attack the partisans which had taken control of Gaza, Tel Aviv, and Haifa. As a reward for their assistance, the Germans allowed Lebanon to annex Haifa.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/Lebanon.png

As German forces pushed deeper into India, British resistance quickly crumbled. The German advance was not slowed as they sped through the country. The British puppets of Nepal and Bhutan quickly surrendered as superior German forces overran their countries.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/Nepal.png
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/Bhutan.png

By midsummer, the Germans had advanced all the way to the border of Burma. The retreating British forces were now trapped between the hostile armies of Germany and Japan. The two countries were now racing each other to take the colony. German forces headed south towards the port of Rangoon, the most important city in Burma, while more German divisions pushed into the interior. With just a few days between them and Rangoon, German forces learned that the Japanese had beat them to the city. They shifted their offensive westward, taking what remained of the Burmese coastline.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/GermanIndia.png

The European front had long been quiet since the fall of Great Britain. However, soon German forces in Scotland found themselves facing an American invasion force led by General MacArthur. The Americans took Glasgow, Dunfermline, and Inverness. 5 German and Scottish forces gathered in Edinburgh, while 3 German divisions that had been stationed in Scapa Flow began to push back the American invaders. German forces quickly pushed MacArthur out of Glasgow while the northern divisions defeated the Americans in Inverness. 4 more German divisions landed at Aberdeen and awaited as the Americans retreated to Inverness. Now surrounded, the Americans retreated back to their ships.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/AmericanScotland.png

With the British all but defeated in Africa and India, Hitler set the next objective of German world domination into effect; the conquest of America. In order to obtain this, the fledging Kriegsmarine would have to be expanded. An entirely new fleet was ordered, consisting a wide assortment of ships. Battleships, Carriers, Heavy Cruisers, Light Cruisers, Battlecruisers, Destroyers, and Transports, all to help Germany achieve domination of the seas. The first of the new Kriegsmarine ships arrived in the Fall. Six new cruisers, the Admiral Hipper, Prinz Eugen, Friedrich Carl, Blucher, Lutznow, and Roon.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/cruisers.png

Rommel's Afrika Korps quickly rolled through the vast open lands of Africa unopposed. British forces were unseen by the time they reached Ethiopia. A three pronged attack was commenced. Rommel would take his Panzers and the motorized infantry and attack French Equatorial Africa and the Belgian Congo, another group of Panzers would push south into South Africa, and the third group would finish retaking Ethiopia and Somalia. The army in the Horn of Africa quickly took back the Italian lands, but were suprised when they encountered armies from the US, New Zealand, and Australia in Mogadishu. In the south, the Germans tore through Rhodesia and soon reached South Africa. South African forces were no match for the Germans, and the government soon surrendered. In the west, German and Spanish forces encountered considerable French resistance.

The game doesn't involve ethnic cleansing/the Holocaust, so as far as Hitler's views on Muslims, its irrelevant. This way we can just pretend that the Germans were going for complete world domination instead of what they were really up to for the sake of this AAR.

Deep on the jungles of the Congo, the last remnants of the Allied forces in Africa attempted to fight off the Germans. The imporant economical center of Elisabethville had fallen months earlier and German forces continued to advance into the interior. In the west, Rommel took the coast of Gabon and French Congo before advancing into the region of Banana, which was the location of the only seaport in the Belgian Congo. With the fall of the capital of Kinshasa a few weeks later, the Belgian government officially surrendered to Germany.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/annexbelgium.png

In an attempt to liberate the British Isles from German occupation, the Americans made a landing along the southern coast of England led by Generals MacArthur and Patton. After quickly becoming outnumbered, reinforcements were shipped in from the European mainland. With the help of the Luftwaffe's CAS, American forces were quickly pushed back and forced to make a hasty retreat from Portsmouth.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/oncomingtrainwreck.png

During the American invasion of England, the German Kriegsmarine engaged a French fleet in the North Sea. Unlike previous defeats, the Germans struck a decisive blow to the French navy by sinking the carrier Bearn.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/bearn.png

Despite their defeat in England, the American army made another landing in Scotland. Glasgow and Edinburgh were seized and the Scottish government surrendered. Now German forces raced northwards to face off against the new threat in the north. German forces in Scapa Flow marched south into Inverness and the Americans were easily pushed out of Edinburgh and Glasgow, and eventually, out of Scotland itself. The reinforcements that had landed in England were now kept on the island to further help repel Allied invasions.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/usascotland.png

By the summer of 1942, the Finnish government finally agreed to join the Axis. Finnish soldiers would eventually assist the Germans whenever the next invasion of the Soviet Union arrived.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/finlandaxis.png

During this time, the German Kriegsmarine had been greatly expanded. The first wave of new ships was being launched. The smaller ships came first, with 14 light cruisers and 14 heavy cruisers. Additionally, a number of transport ships had been made, capable of ferrying soldiers across great distances. The new German Battleships and Carriers were still being worked on and were not expected to be finished for many more months.

By Fall 1942, rebels in Guyana had finally driven the British out of the country and declared their independence. Of course, the Allies didn't take this lightly, and declared war on the new nation.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/guyana.png

In Asia, the Japanese had finally broken through in China. With Japanese forces overrunning the country, Chinese leaders had no option but to surrender. The Kuomintang (Nationalists), Guangxi, Yunnan, and Xibei San Ma surrendered to Japan. Mao Zedong's Communist Chinese forces refused to surrender, and vowed to fight on, despite the now insurmountable odds. Not wanting to have to administer the vast Chinese lands themselves, they established a puppet state covering most of mainland China.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/china.png

In Africa, Rommel's Afrika Korps had pushed the French forces up against the coast. With the Congo now under German occupation, a thin strip of land stretching from Cameroon to Angola was all that remained of French controlled territories. With the help of Spanish forces, the French were forced to retreat south to Banana. With numbers now heavily against them, the French forces in Africa surrendered.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/frenchafrica.png

With the smaller surface ships completed, all the remained to complete the new Kriegsmarine were its battleships and carriers. In mid-November, the four new battleships, Bismarck, Tirpitz, Friedrich der Große, and Großdeutschland, were completed.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/battleships.png

In early December, the invasion force for Fall Landschildkroten was ready to embark on their journey across the Atlantic. 126 divisions, 51 surface ships, and 92 transports were assembled in Rostock. Their first stop was Plymouth, the last German controlled port on the way to Newfoundland.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/landschildkroten.png

A few days after the invasion force left, the first two of the Kriegsmarine's aircraft carriers were launched. The Graf Zeppelin and Peter Strasser were stationed in Rostock, however they wouldn't be ready for combat until February. (I forgot to build CAGs :p)

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/carriers.png

The voyage across the Atlantic was rather uneventful. Not a single Allied ship was encountered. German forces landed on the unguarded island of Newfoundland. With the strategic airbases and naval bases of Newfoundland secured, German forces moved on to make a landing at Moncton. 86 divisions made the landing, and began to advance towards Halifax, Saint John, and Riveire-du-Loup.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/newfoundland.png
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/landing.png

With their mission successful, the transport flotillas were sent back to Newfoundland, while the Kriegsmarine was given a orders to patrol the North Atlantic. The German battleships and cruisers began to unleash their full fury on Allied shipping. In the period between December 10, 1942 and December 28, 1942, the Germans had succeeded in decimating Allied navies in the region. The Canadian Atlantic fleet was wiped out, while the Americans and French took massive losses. The Kriegsmarine sunk 3 carriers, 6 battleships, 3 cruisers, 4 light cruisers, 14 destroyer divisions, and 8 transport flotillas, all while suffering no lost ships of their own.

With German forces successfully landing on the the North American mainland, German forces immediately went after 3 strategic targets; Boston, Halifax, and Montreal. American forces were forced into a retreat. 7 Canadian divisions took refuge in Cape Breton, and successfully repelled German attacks. The Americans fought back a German attack on Boston, before the city would fall. In Quebec, the cities of Montreal and Quebec City easily fell. A stalemate soon developed along this front, stretching from Boston in the south along the New Hampshire-Vermont border and along the St. Lawrence River, with neither side being able to break through.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/newengland.png

In Germany, a number of carrier air groups were constructed, giving Germany's four aircraft carriers their own air wings. They now awaited the arrival of the Kriegsmarine ships who where returning from North America to join up with.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/cags.png

Unable to break through in New England, it was decided that a new front had to be opened. 47 divisions had been assembled in northern Germany awaiting the transport to the front. After making a brief stop in Halifax (hence why there are 55 divisions in Halifax in the first screenshot ;)), they continued along the coast before finally landing at Newark. The war plan had originally planned to land at Dover, but was changed in order to put pressure on New York City.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/newark.png

I have no idea how this happened, so breaking out of story for a paragraph. This event popped up and I took the option to Take Control of Algeria and Tunisia which went under Italian control. For some reason Vichy Morocco was now American, despite the fact that the two of them weren't at war and there were no American soldiers there.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/northafria.png

With two fronts now opened (and me successfully figuring out convoys), the American defenses began to crumble like a deck of cards. The Germans broke through in every direction, pushing deep into Ontario, Pennsylvania, New York and Maryland. 16 American divisions were encircled in Watertown, while the both Ottawa and Washington D.C. fell. American forces were now on the run.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/dc.png

With on opposing forces in their way, German Panzers and semi-motorized cavalry broke through into the Ohio Valley. The states of Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Michigan soon fell, while German infantry marched through Virginia.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/america-1.png

In the wide open plains of the Midwest, German tanks continued to roll on. They crossed the Mississippi River and into Texas, Oklahoma, and Minnesota. A number of American divisions were pushed into Florida and quickly defeated.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/america2.png

German forces soon reached the Rocky Mountains. They were suprised by the lack of resistance as they rolled through the country. It seemed that most of the American army was up in Canada unsuccessfully trying to slow the German advance.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/america3.png

With victory on the horizon, the Kriegsmarine launched five new battleships. They were sailed across the Atlantic to join up with the two fleets already patrolling the North Atlantic. In addition, four new carriers had already been commissioned and already joined those in the Atlantic.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/5battleships.png

In Asia, the Japanese continued their advance in Southeast Asia. They soon defeated Dutch forces in Indonesia, and the government surrendered. Japan took control of Indonesia and Curacao, which had been the next stop for the German forces who were currently island-hopping through Allied held islands in the Caribbean.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/netherlands.png

Back on the mainland, German forces had reached the Pacific coast. Having reached Seattle, 6 Panzer divisions and 7 semi-motorized cavalry divisions attacked Vancouver. The American and Canadian defenders were soon forced to retreat to Vancouver Island. With the fall of the city, the Canadian government surrendered.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/canada.png

American front, October 1943

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/america4.png

I was actually suprised at how easily the Americans were defeated. I was expecting much more resistance. Once I got out of New England, the Americans didn't put up a fight.

It's part of the "Operation Torch" event. Historically the Americans negotiated with Darlan, the Vichy Commander, to facilitate the American landing in North-Africa. The Americans landed in Morocco (that's why the Americans receive Morocco in the event). In exchange The USA didn't declare war on Vichy France. The Germans and Italians were furious about this 'betrayal' and took control over North-Africa (that's why the event gives Algeria and Tunis to the Italians) to oppose the American landing.

You are already conquering the USA in 1943. It's only logical the in-build events seem rather bizarre... (tip: don't play at the very easy level) ;)

With most of America now subdued, the Kriegsmarine set out to capture the last remnants of the British and American colonial holdings. A large fleet set sail from Colon in Panama and managed to reach Samoa. In the North Tonga Trench, the Kriegsmarine encountered the full might of the American navy. 36 German ships, including 8 carriers faced off against 80 American ships, including 8 carriers. At first things looked bleak for the Germans, but soon the tide turned and thanks to their technologically advanced carriers, the Kriegsmarine emerged victorious. The Americans lost 4 carriers, 1 battleship, 6 cruisers, 2 light cruisers, and 9 destroyer divisions, while the Germans only lost 1 transport flotilla.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/northtongatrench.png

The Germans quickly island hopped around the South Pacific, capturing Samoa, Fiji, and the Solomon Islands. Following these victories, the British and American governments surrendered, while the rest of the Allies continued to fight on. Cyprus, Iceland, Greenland, the Falklands, and the remaining areas still opposing the Germans in North America were handed over to German authority.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/americabritain.png

With the vast lands of North America under German occupation, several puppet nations were set up to administer the newly conquered territories. Alberta, New England, Deseret, Texas, Cascadia, Newfoundland, Puerto Rico, California, and Quebec were granted independence under German authority. Even with these newly created puppets, much of North America was still under German control.

Sorry for asking such a stupid question (I've never played HoI or HoI 2) but why is it better to create puppet states, rather than annexing them and keeping them annexed? :)
Partisans are an important reason, but there are others...

Every country has a certain amount of transport capacity (an abstract of trains, trucks,...). This number is dependant on the amount of industry you have. Extra units and extra provinces drains your TC.
When you annex countries, you receive about 20% of their industries. So if you annex countries with very few industries, you gain a very small amount of production capacity for a large drain on your TC. In that case puppeting is better. Especialy because the combat effectiveness of your army will diminish significantly when your TC is in the red.

If I'm not mistaking you get 50% of the resource production when you annex a country. But if you puppet a country, you'll get every resource your puppet produces above 1000 units. That can be very significant for countries with a large supply of a certain resource (f.e. Iraq with it's oil).

It also lowers your belligerance to puppet nations. And you can also puppet countries during peace negotiations without annexing the country. That way you almost don't get any belligerance.

Hope that explains it a bit.

EDIT: I forgot something. Puppets can of course use 100% of their production capabilities. So they can make their own units which you can use or let them defend their own country. Thus releasing some military resources for your campaigns.

I'm a fan of puppeting. Does it notice? :D

New puppet, the Confederate States.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/csa.png

In mid-1945, Germany launched an invasion of Central America. 7 divisions attacked from Villahermosa in the north while another force of 7 divisions landed in Colon and proceeded northwards. Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Panama were the only nations which fielded armies to oppose the German armies. El Salvador, Honduras, and Costa Rica simply allowed the Germans to march through unopposed.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/centralamerica.png

Right after the fall of Central America, Germany launched it's campaign against Japan. armies in Burma and Kashmir were mobilized and marched across the border. Meanwhile, armies in Hawaii boarded transports to prepare to island hop across the Pacific, and the Kriegsmarine departed Pearl Harbor with a force of 70 ships, including 8 aircraft carriers.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/warjapan.png

Within a month, Japanese forces had been pushed back to the Siamese border. In the north, German forces were crossing into Yunnan while in the south the Germans were advancing on Bangkok. In the Himalayas, Japanese forces were retreating, with specialized German Mountain divisions working their way through the mountain range.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/seasia.png

The first target for the Pacific fleets was Midway Island. German transports landed on the beaches of Midway and infantry assaulted the island. The Japanese defenders were too strong however, and the Germans were forced to retreat. They sailed on to Wake Island, where the defenders were unable to hold on, and Germany took control of the island. With the fall of Wake Island, the Kriegsmarine was now able to reach the coast of Japan. A total of 25 divisions made the journey and landed on the northern coasts of the island of Honshu.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/tokyobay.png

Progress through the thick jungles and mountains of Southeast Asia was slow. By February 1946, the Germans had only just reached Bangkok. Another army had pushed south and was advancing towards Singapore on the Malay peninsula. In the north, the Germans had broken into China and Vietnam. Hanoi had fallen, cutting off Japanese forces in Indochina from the rest of their armies.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/feb1946.png

German forces reached Cambodia and advanced towards Southern Vietnam. With the fall of Bangkok and the rest of their major cities, the Siamese government surrendered and much of the interior fell into German hands.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/siam.png

Soon afterwards, German forces had completely overrun the Japanese home islands. Despite this, the Japanese government vowed to fight on, refusing to surrender as long as their army still stood. The government fled and set up a new capital at Busan on the Korean Peninsula.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/homeislands.png

By July, 1946, Japanese and Chinese forces on the mainland were in full retreat. The Germans had pushed them up against the East China Sea coastline. Hong Kong had fallen while the Wehrmacht advanced on Nanjing and Beijing. Despite greater numbers, the defenders were unable to halt the German advance which took advantage of its strong technological advantage.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/july1946.png

German forces began boarding transports in Japan and prepared to make landings in Korea to open up a new front in the war. Landing at Jeju completely unopposed, the Germans made a crossing of the strait to land at Gwangju. 8 divisions in total began to push up the peninsula and chased the Japanese towards Manchuria.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/korea.png

With the defeat of Japanese forces in Indochina, German forces departed on transports towards the Philippines. Landing at Lingay Gulf, the Germans captured Aparri, Clark Field, and Bataan before launching an assault on Manila. A total of 6 Japanese divisions had been left to garrison the archipelago. With the Kriegsmarine blockading the Leyte Gulf, the Japanese defenders became trapped in the island of Luzon and were quickly destroyed.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/philippines.png

German forces had reached Beijing in the north and now only two pockets of resistance in China remained. One centered around the Nanjing-Shanghai corridor, and another at Fuzhou. The pocket at Fuzhou was much smaller than the one surrounding Shanghai and consisted of mostly Chinese soldiers.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/shangaipocket.png

With the fall on Nanjing and Hangzhou, the Chinese puppet state collapsed. Chinese soldiers surrendered, leaving only Japanese forces to defend the city of Shanghai. The Kriegsmarine arrived off the coast to prevent Japan from attempting an evacuation of any of the 40+ divisions in the city. 50 German divisions attacked the city, and after a brief battle, the Japanese forces were wiped out.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/natchina.png

In the north, German forces had quickly sped through Manchuria and Korea, defeating all armies in their way. The Japanese puppet of Mengkukuo and Manchukuo surrendered to Germany. With the defeath, Japan was reduced to a series of islands throughout the East Indies and South Pacific.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/manchukuo.png

German forces had been island-hopping all around the Japanese held islands. The Philippines, Sumatra, Borneo, Formosa, and Java were the first to fall. With those key islands under their control, the Germans could now focus on the smaller islands that dotted the South Pacific. Iwo Jima, Palau, Yap, Truk, Kwajalein, and Eniwetok fell, while German forces captured strategic points on the island of New Guinea. With their army decimated and their empire destroyed, the Japanese government finally surrendered.

With the fall of Japan, German forces moved south towards Australasia. The last remnants of the Allies was located in the islands of the South Pacific, consisting of Australia, New Zealand, and France. Adapting their island hopping tactics to larger land masses, the Germans made landings at Darwin, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra (for some reason Canberra is coastal in HoI2 :crazyeye: ),Sydney, Newcastle, and Brisbane. Most of the Australian army was located in the islands off New Guinea and had been pinned down by the Kriegsmarine. Before attempting to seize Rabaul, similiar landings were made across New Zealand. With Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch occupied, the New Zealand government surrendered.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/newzealand.png

Unable to land directly on the island of New Britain, the Luftwaffe began bombing the island from the airstrips at Lae. After a month, a landing could finally be made on the southern tip of island at Gasmata. After the intense bombings, the Australians were quickly defeated and surrendered.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/australia.png

Using tactics similar to those at Rabaul, the island of Noumea was attacked. 1 French infantry division attempted to fight off the numerous Germans, but was soon overrun. With the fall of Noumea, as well as the defeat of Liberia, the Allies were defeated.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/france.png

With the Allies defeated, it was now time to attack the Soviet Union. The Germans attacked from the Urals, Persia, China, and Manchuria across a front that stretch across the entire continent of Asia. On all fronts the Soviets were pushed back as the German Panzers rolled across the Siberia countryside. In the Far East, Vladivostok was overrun and 45 Soviet divisions became encircled against the Tatar Sea. However, by this time winter was beginning to set in and the encircled Soviets were able to hold out much longer than expected.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/sovietunion.png

The poorly equipped Mongolian and Tuvinian armies were easily defeated as the Germans proceeded to capture the countryside. Before long both governments would surrender as the Germans marched on through into Siberia.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/mongolia.png

By mid-November, the last major city in the Soviet Union had fallen. With just a vast, empty wilderness left, the Soviet government was forced to surrender. With this victory, the Axis was left as the sole great power left in the world.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb79/subesia/sovietannex.png

The next step on the German path to global domination was the many neutral countries scattered throughout Europe and South America. Working in stages, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Syria became the first targets. The Bulgarians were the only nation to put up a serious challenge. They briefly occupied the Romanian capital of Bucharest and managed to advance into Italian held Greece before German forces arrived to crush their armies. Up next, they moved into South America. Starting with Colombia and Venezuala, the German army worked its way south along the Andes before sweeping north again into Argentina and Paraguay. The final target in North America was Brazil, whose many large coastal cities were attacked with the use of amphibious landings.

With South America subdued, the Germans moved into Northern Europe. They attacked Sweden through Norway and Denmark, managing to capture several key cities before the Finns pulled a move that greatly angered Germany when the annexed Sweden. Moving on from the diplomatic defeat, Latvia and Lithuania fell. Ireland, Portugal, Vichy, and Switzerland were the last to fall. With these countries defeated and annexed, Germany and its Allies now controlled the world.

Peace had finally returned to the world that was now united. However, Germany wasn't quite done yet. Germany dissolved the alliance and began to turn on its onetime allies. Romania, Hungary, and Lebanon fell first, after which the Germans moved onto Italy. They marched south along the Italian peninsula, captured the Dalmatian coast, occupied Greece as far south as Athens, and seized key cities in Italian North Africa. The Italians surrendered and war was declared on Spain. Unlike Italy, the Spanish managed to put up a fight. Unable to break through in the mountainous north, 60 divisions were landed in the south. Now fighting on two fronts, the Spanish were quickly overwhelmed and annexed. The final target of Germany was Finland. Had the Fins not annexed Sweden, they may have been allowed to keep their territories in Karelia, but had instead betrayed Germany by annexing Sweden. With a large number of divisions already in place from the invasions of Sweden and Latvia, the Finns were quickly defeated. With the annexation of Finland, the world belonged to Germany and its thirteen puppet states.

Not wanting to have to administer the entire world, dozens of new puppets were created. Germany itself kept Greater Germany and large parts of France, but everything else was divided up. The League of Nations was renamed Der Völkerbund and now consisted of Germany and all its puppets, and became an organization to help Germany better control its puppets. The various islands in the South Pacific were split between the nearby nations, and France, Russia, the UK, and United States were ripped apart into numerous smaller, more manageable states. And now, the world was united as one.

In other news PrinceScamp has been declared God Emperor of Cascadia and has invaded Alberta for oil to end their threat of WMDs.

The annual paintball battle ended in a tie with the Cascadian lumberjacks having retrated to the now well fortified beer tent and the Albertans being scattered by several loose bulls.

In 1955 PrinceScamp made IronMan a non-Person.

I told you in the last AAR to stay away from my watermelon!

Due to IronMan not existing, it was not possible to prove that Scamp did anything to him.

in 1963 a large group of rebels lead by one "Tom Gunn". They quickly took over the united states of america and the confederate states of america. When german forces finally arrived from south america the group of rebels were quickly pushed all the way back to new york. in a small village Tom Gunn was killed by a german panzer shell. The german forces were never threated again, until Teh Alienz came.

Well I want to leave open the possibility of continuing the story in the future at a point where the German alliance falls apart and the world falls into a new World War. So I can't have all the puppets spiraling off into their own storylines. ;)

I would just need to disband the German armed forces, release some puppets and create a new alliance. And of course, get that no time limit mod.

Since having puppets with Union Jacks really doesn't make much sense, I sought to replace the flags of Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, which I plan on using from now on. I'll also be using them should I go ahead with my plans to continue the story like I described.

http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/7344/ausnzlcanxb3.png

How does everyone like them? And yes, each one does actually have some sort of real relation to its country.

Canada's offering you Basic Cavalry Division techs? After conquering the world, do they really think Germany needs it?

SuperBeaverInc.

Those aren't from the Germany game. :p I got them by starting a new 1936 campaign as the UK and letting them approach me to trade. If I did that in the Germany campaign I would have 40 countries trying to trade with me all at once. And it was a much easier way to test them out just to use a new game.

if you want another possible canadian flag aside from the current one in real life how about this?

it was one of the flags presented when we were making our decision

I considered using the Maple Leaf, but I considered it "too modern". I wanted something roughly historical, hence the Australian and New Zealand flags, which I found on Wiki and existed well before WWII. For the Canada flag, I just combined the Red Ensign and Maple Leaf, and I think it makes the flag look quite historical.

And the Pearson Pennant just looks awkward. :ack:

yes it does but if you wanted to remove the union jack I wouldn't see the German approved flag having the lions and Fleurs-de-lis :p

Well, if you prefer I could use the crest off this version of the Red Ensign, with symbols of the provinces. :p

And also what colour you want it in game, and what area it should be in.

Out of curiosity, is it possible to play Doomsday saves in Armageddon? And if so, would would it work well?

Since Armageddon is merely a booster to Doomsday, the saves translate quite nicely. Simply install Armageddon and you'll get the option to play either/or from then on because you should have the two separate icons. It might take a load in Armageddon to get it to recognize the savegames from Doomsday, but after a restart of Armageddon you should have all the saves there.
