What do you think is the best incarnation of Civilization?

I voted for Civ4 BTS, but Civ2 Test of Time was a close second. I still miss the kineticore.

dont call CtP Civ2, that's just not right...
and if you do that, please also include Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri


i'm torn between CtP1 and Civ4 BTS, CtP was great, it took things maybe a little too far away from the original Civ, but still, it was great to have that extended timeline with space combat and submarine cities.

Civ4 is just about perfect, give me terraforming, the High Council from Civ2 and the Palace/Throne Room and it is perfect.
sure, it has some bugs, but what game hasn't? (i remember in Civ1 when i had 32k gold and the next turn i had -32k gold :D)

Yeah I really enjoy C3C and prefer it to anything other than C4BTS.

To get a fair answer, however, this would have to be in Off Topic, as placing it in any of the Civ forums inevitably favors that variation of Civ. Had it not been the #1 topic in Civ4, I probably would not have seen it as I visit the Civ3 forums much more often.

I've said BtS.

Since IV is the pinacle of civilisation gaming for me, BtS has expanded it 'just enough' for me.

Never played beyond Civ II up until IV vanilla.

I say either CivIV vanilla or CivIV BtS.

I voted Conquests to put it ahead of Ptw and give it a even 10% block of the shares. I do expect it to claim another 5% but nothing more. If this was in the CIv3 forums it would read alot differnt.

Not all that surprising, Warlords is losing to Call to power. :D

I actually like playing Civ2 best. I don't know why. Maybe nostalgia.

I would say Civ I. Without Civ I all of the other games would not have been made.

I jumped in with Civ III Gold. :D So I didn't completely experiance the release of Conquests & FTW.

I agree with that honestly. Before I bought BTS, I was playing more C3C than I was Civ 4. The time I was putting in on CIv 4 at that time wasn't even playing really, but instead modding the game and downloading mods to make it playable. IMO 4 vanilla was very drab and warlords only added a tinge of flavor that seemed to try and mimic C3C style of play. Needless to say I skipped Warlords. If it weren't for BTS my vote would have went for C3C.

I only finally got Civ4 and have been playing it for just a few days. However, I own Civ I, II, TOT, and CIV III Vanilla, so I can only base my answer on the ones I've actually played, so as it stands, I'd say Civ 3 :)

That's rather easily explained. Since most Civilization players accept Conquests as the best version of C3 and BTS as the best version of Civ 4 few will vote for C3 vanilla or C4 vanilla.

So C3C is standing better than C4 because the people who prefer C3 will mostly vote C3C, while the people who prefer C4 will mostly not vote C4 but BTS.

I voted civ3 because i felt it was the best improvement from the last one.

Right now it's still Civ 4 Warlords closely followed by Civ 3 PtW. Things might change though after BtS 3.13 has become history. Interesting to see the most bug-infested versions getting the highest votes. Coincidence? ;)

Either Civ2 or Civ4. Civ3 was an abomination.
