If each Civ were to get a 2nd unique unit, what should it be? The Americans, for example, might benefit from having a 2nd UU stealth bomber, for example. Opinions?

Opinions? classical_hero Oct 17, 2007, 07:36 AM I would say that the Americans should have a Minuteman being the second UU as a replacement for The Musketman. Uberfrog Oct 17, 2007, 08:58 AM An Ottoman Great Bombard as a more powerful replacement for a cannon? A Carthaginian naval vessel, e.g. a quinquereme as a stronger trireme, although I'm not sure how useful this would be. Aztec eagle warriors as faster spearmen with bonuses in woodland/jungle? Just a few off the top of my head... kazapp Oct 17, 2007, 09:02 AM Interesting topic! :king: I've recently started a simular topic: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=247627 I will continue to read this topic for interesting ideas! Common Sensei Oct 17, 2007, 09:41 AM I would say that the Americans should have a Minuteman being the second UU as a replacement for The Musketman. I'd put forth that they replace Grenadiers instead, to be a poetic foil for the English Redcoat. I'd also say that Navy SEALs should replace Paratroopers so that the Americans can still build "Marines." England could get Yeoman Longbowmen (which Churchill could leverage). Perhaps with a small amount of collateral damage (2 or 3 units tops) and/or a small bonus (20-25%) against melee. bmarnz Oct 17, 2007, 09:56 AM I have compiled a module with 2nd UU for each civ. :) 2nd UU Module (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=239206) Supr49er Oct 17, 2007, 09:56 AM I always thought that each leader should get their own UU. For example, Washington gets Minuteman, Lincoln gets Ranged Artillery, and Roosevelt would get Amphibious Landing Craft so Infantry could also attack a city w/o penalty. Tusk Oct 17, 2007, 09:59 AM What about the Spitfire for England? That fighter plane sure has a legendary place in English history, and would also give them a modern unit... The Germans/Holy Roman Empire could also get a secondary unit for the medieval age, a Teutonic knight... Leif Roar Oct 17, 2007, 10:09 AM England could get Yeoman Longbowmen (which Churchill could leverage). Perhaps with a small amount of collateral damage (2 or 3 units tops) and/or a small bonus (20-25%) against melee. Clearly, English longbowmen should get a bonus against Knights. (Just ask the French.) Now, suggested UUs for various nations: England: England really ought to get a naval UU; either a special Ship of the Line or a Dreadnaught battleship. Another option is a RAF fighter with increased intercept %. Russia: Katjuscha "Stalin's Organ" rocket artillery; replace artillery, starts with Barrage I. France: Foreign Legion. Infantry, starts with march. Germany: Zeppelin airship: Strength 5. Alternatively, Stormpioneer -- ignores the defence bonus of Drill I. Vikings: Skjold or Visby class: stealth destroyer with +2 moves. Native Americans: Windtalkers: Marines with 1-2 first strikes and starts with ambush. Holy Roman Empire: Cavalier: cuirasser with bonus strength Uberfrog Oct 17, 2007, 10:17 AM Clearly, English longbowmen should get a bonus against Knights. (Just ask the French.) To be honest, all archery units should do better against (unarmoured) cavalry- bigger target to hit and all that. It's odd that all mounted units in Civ IV are immune to archer's first strikes, with the exception of the cataphract, which would have been the only horse able to withstand archer fire. Back on topic- English longbowmen maybe, or as peopkle have said, a naval unit. The Indians need a military UU- some sort of elephant? TM Moot Oct 17, 2007, 10:21 AM Second UU's would be great. But I reckon that where possible each Civ should only have one land-based military unit and a second non-land based military unit. For example - England Redcoat & Dreadnought (or Spitfire) USA Navy Seal & Huey (chopper which can evac units to nearby cities) or Cobra (Helicopter Gunship) Germany King Tiger (renamed Panzer) & U-Boat Rome Legionaire (remaned Praet) & Siege Weapon and so on!! Common Sensei Oct 17, 2007, 10:23 AM I have compiled a module with 2nd UU for each civ. :) 2nd UU Module (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=239206) This looks interesting! I will have to try it when I get home from work. |
