Titan_br Oct 20, 2007, 01:39 PM I'm trying to start a new game with RFC, never did before, just updated it to 3.13 and RFC to 1.08 (dled it and deleted the folder of RFC, and unpack a new folder there with same name)
Then, I started a new game, but always Crash to Desktop when loading the game, after I select the civ, monarch, speed, etc...
whats happening here?
Zhuge_Liang Oct 20, 2007, 01:51 PM ummmmmmmmmm............... I think this post was repeated. Check it out on page 2.

Titan_br Oct 21, 2007, 08:39 AM Anyone CAN HELP ME?
Zhuge_Liang Oct 23, 2007, 09:05 AM Mine too but I upgraded my computer and updated it's components.
Rhye Oct 26, 2007, 10:24 AM try to reinstall BTS; update it but don't update RFC
SilverKnight Oct 27, 2007, 06:45 PM I'm having a similar problem on this otherwise beautiful (if dumb) machine that runs Windows Vista smoothly. The Warlords version, starting right away as China, crashes just as the game finishes loading and the music starts playing. Warlords is patched all the way, and it runs fine without the scenario. I even downloaded this patch (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=241022) for Vista and tried again as Persia. I was looking at the units, but when I tried to build my first city, it crashed again.
Any ideas? I REALLY wanna see it on this monster of a desktop computer, looks great, but just not the same without Rhye's and Fall... :(

Rhye Nov 02, 2007, 04:30 PM Usually crashes during loading are due to mismatches. Possibly due to custom assets or some broken/changed core file.
SilverKnight Nov 05, 2007, 11:11 PM Well, I just installed it, no other mods there... :( cry! The load times are nil on this behemoth, but it just does NOT like RFC for some reason. I'll try the old "reinstall/repatch" mess, see if it helps.

Mr. Frooples Jan 25, 2008, 01:24 PM Hi,
I'm getting a similar kind of crash to desktop (although I'm running XP) and I'm just wondering if there are any other suggestions. I've been very thorough about pursuing this. I have both a laptop and a desktop and I've had exactly the same kind of symptoms.
- on my laptop, I could start the game, but whenever I tried to build my first settlement with my settler (I tried three different civs), the game crashed. Then I realized that I hadn't patched Warlords up to 2.08, so I patched it. But the same bug occurred. I also played with the Custom Assets folder as suggested, but that didn't make any difference.
- so I thought maybe it was the way I had installed the patch. So twice (because I screwed up the first time) I uninstalled all of Civ 4 and Warlords, installed them one by one, patched in order. Verified that Rhye's was running in Vanilla, then did Warlords. This time, the game crashed before I ever got into the screen. The mods that came with the game worked fine.
- so I thought it might just be the settings of my laptop. So I went to my desktop and loaded warlords, patched and installed the mod. But I got exactly the same error: just before the gameworld is about to appear, the game crashes. I tried moving Custom Assets--didn't make any difference.
- so I thought it might be my viruscan software, so I turned it off. This time, I got into the map, but as I clicked on my first unit, it crashed. I tried removing Custom Assets again, and this time I didn't even get into the map before it crashed.
So the long and short of it: RFCW crashes on two different computers with or without Custom Assets being touched, and Virus scanner is effectively meaningless.
Any ideas? I really love this mod and was very much looking forward to trying the Carthaginians and the Vikings.
Thanks for any help.

Mr. Frooples Jan 25, 2008, 04:41 PM Ok,
so after all that, I had just checked one more post on the forums and discovered that there are in fact newer patches: vanilla 1.74 and warlords 2.13. I patched, and voila. It works.
Sorry for the long previous post, but hopefully this will be helpful to others facing my problems (oh, and by the way, the new patches required DirectX to be updated, which required the abominable Windows Genuine DisAdvantage stuff...)
