We're in! We're in! It wasn't pretty but we're still in the mix!

Poland rattled our cage early and the US was never able to get into a groove. I definitely think Donovan was screwed out of a goal though, that was poor officiating.

And what is up with Portugal? Some real bone headed fouls when your bid to advance is on the line. I don't think S. Korea could have beaten them if not for the two man advantage.

Portugal was the best team in our group in my opinion, the best ball handlers and best passing team. Luck counts in soccer though, and they started their two most important games 3-0 down to the US and two men short against Korea.

They are kicking themselves all the way home . . .

Come on US, pick it up a notch and play some dizamn defense!

USA! USA! USA!
:D

I disagree. I just saw the replay, and he used his shoulder to move a player that have already conquered that space.

It was a well booked foul, and the referee was very brave to point it.

I was watching via webcam as I had to go to work by 8:30 (US Time). You may be right about the call, but it looked very questionable via webcam.

Either way the better team won today, and that team was Poland. No excuses here. The US better pick it up defensively or it will be an early exit.

In the US it's soccer, football is played with a helmet and pads :D

No offense I hope, but it's just easier to differentiate between the two sports by using soccer and football. Only in the US, by no means are we trying to influence others to call it the same. Each country has their own unique name for most things.

I just love the game!

The US makes a rather weak entry into the second round - o well, hats off! Portugal really shot themselves in the foot, to be sure. Nobody to blame but themselves.

Congratulations to all fotball (soccer) fans in the USA!

But I think itīs a pitty that Portugal didnīt make it. They are a very good fotball nation but it didnīt work out this time.

So now the USA get to play Mexico in the next round and if they get through that, they will probably play Germany. S Korea get to play Italy...

Yeah!

Didnīt the World Footballer of the Year, Figo, play a great tourney?!

Ah, I just love it, they played so arrogantly, they really deserved it (Portugal). Itīs always nice when underdogs win, but this time BOTH of them in that group (Poland and Portugal were the favorites IMO), itīs just GRRRRREAT! :yeah:

But I think S-Korea will have a really hard time against Italy, probably without any real chance to win. But you never know!
:D

I personally didn't want US to advance but... (sorry all the americans here)
I'd rather wanted korea and poland to go to the next round. (Of course poland was definitely out, so my next preference was portugal...)
US was fxxxing lucky that korea beat portugal, not tied with them. (Again, sorry for strong language)
Anyway CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
And I hope US fails now.

Sadly, you'll probably get your wish. If the U.S. plays Mexico the same way it played Poland, it'll look like the Germany-Saudi game, with the Yanks playing the role of Saudi Arabia.

But the U.S. beat Portugal, so who knows what might happen?

I honestly can say that the U.S. should be o.k. against Mexico.

I can see us sneaking in to the next round, but our defense is an atrocity to mankind.

And for your kind words stationery2 I can only say:

Don't be such a poor sport!:D

Hey remember we did be Mexico to get into the World Cup in the first place and as long as the deffense of the US decide to play we have a pretty good chance of winning.

But with Jeff "he's in there cuz he used to be really good" Agoos out with an injury, they might be better...

I still think Mexico has the edge, tho.

Man what's wrong with Canada...
I hope Canada plays in the worldcup as well.
We Canadians are pathetic
It seems that Mexico is going to beat US.
What about Korea vs Italy?
Where's your money on?
Italy is of course strong, but you can't just neglect Korea's recent improvement and home advantage.
I carefully predict it could be Korea.

Remember, the Mexicans don't do so well against us away from home.

And the Americans have played the Mexicans more than probably ANY other country in the World Cup.

It should be a good game.
