v4.0 info:
- Quite a big amount of work's been put into this update.
I revisited and reworked a number of units, you'll find a new Hungarian Explorer,
Heavy Swordsman, Musketman, Spearman, Archer, Longbowman, Crossbowman, Pikeman, etc.
a brand new Settler unit that changes across the eras (the medieval one resembles Honfoglalás)
and also reworked some existing units for better quality/uniqueness.
Most units are based on correct/available historical material and I tried to match them
with my limited skillset of unit making. (you'll find e.g. that I tried to model Teleki Sámuel
as the Hungarian Explorer, the Hungarian (Settling) Conquest(Honfoglalás) I tried to use as a
basis for the settler, etc.

Changelogs from previous versions:

v3.1 patch info:
- corrected some city names

Added in v3.0:
- 3 new animated leaders
- Modern Marine
- reskin of the Academy of Science
- a lot of corrections in descriptions, building sizes
- added music
- Huszár stats changed, please check below

v2.0
- Added modern units

All units:

- Delete previous Hungary Mod from [BtS Mod directory]\Varietas Delectat\Assets\Modules\Hungary
- Extract Hungary mod v4.0 to BtS Mod folder (it will place Hungary under VDs Modules dir)

How many Hungarians are here? I'm learning it right now. Impossibly difficult but oh-so rewarding.

Anyway. Those are beautiful! You did an excellent job with the colors.

at last i got it to work. with the 2,0 Hungary mod

But i have some problem.

the flags are white.

Is there a solution to this ?

cool3a2
Nov 17, 2007, 12:15 PM
Try the white flag fix from the original magyar mod. If avain hasn't renamed the flag file it should be only copy'n'paste.

robertb
Nov 17, 2007, 12:47 PM
could you please link to it. i have tried now for almost an hour to find anyting about it.

(i do not have the mod hungary 1,0 anymore if its the one)

I meant the other mod, started by Anima Croatorum long time ago (thread title "Ho ho ho... A magyar civ"). The white flag fix should work for this as well. The flags image file is the problem. Some machines have problems with the alpha. Here is link to the vanilla edition of the mod (the flag fix inside should work for every version, nevertheless you can find the links to the other versions of civ4 in the mods thread): click! (http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/113482/mayar_hu_vanilla174.rar)

robertb
Nov 17, 2007, 01:38 PM
ahh, got it now. I am probably putting it wrong because it still does not work

will try more tomorrow. Still thanks for helping me find the fix.

furthermore, the archers are getting all red..... hmmm, i will try the mod on another computer.

Looks great!

Modern units are also cute although we don't have too much of them anyway.
Our air force of 14 Saab Gripens are just so frightening :)

Huszár looks great though that long pole looks weird in their hands

This is an early medieval Huszár. What you have in your mind, is a later version.

Yo!

I speak maybe 20 words in Hungarian and I don't know how to spell any of them, heh.

Mátyás Hunyadi (http://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunyadi_M%C3%A1ty%C3%A1s) and Saint Stephen of Hungary (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_I_of_Hungary). No leaderheads, though, just static pictures. It would be nice if someone made some LH's for them, though.

First of all, thank you for all of your work in putting this together. From the screens posted here it looks like a beautifully well-done mod!

I'm having a problem though...
I have Varietas Delectat installed and have been playing it without problems for some time now. I followed the installation instructions for the Hungary Mod and extracted the file to C:BeyondTheSword\Assets\... just like the instructions say and then I installed the patch peer the instructions for that. However, when I try to play as Hungary 3 weird things happen:
1) At the very start, before I get to the "It is the dawn of mankind..." opening page, the Technology Advisor screen appears and it is completely blank. All I can do is click to exit out and then it proceeds to the "Dawn of mankind..." opening.
2) Once I pass the "dawn of mankind..." page I have NO user interface. I've tried using the interface shortcuts (Alt+I and Ctrl+I) but neither seems to work. ??? Any idea what's going on here?
3) So then when I tried to exit to the main menu (via hitting escape to bring up the menu options) I get a "CIV4 has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. I'm guessing this means something is FUBAR.

VD still plays well with other civs...it's just Hungary that's not working correctly.

When you have no user interface, that means something wrong in the python files - which is not modified neither by VD nor by Hungary mod. I strongly suggest to delete VD and try to install again. Also, are you using the Modern Era Expansion for VD mod?

If the problem returns, you could try the following:
- open the Varietas Delectat.ini
- change NoCustomAssets = 0 to NoCustomAssets = 1

Please report if this helps for you!

I'm using VD 3.1.7 (which has some unique modern unit skins but no new units per se, i.e. Light-Tank, Heavy-Tank, Armored Personnel Carrier, etc...).

Do I need to be using the modern unit version?

Avain,

I'd like to report a small issue - instead of the button for the swordsman, the button of the axeman appears everywhere in the game. So, for example, in the city build screen, two axemen buttons would appear - if you mouse over both of them, one of them will say axeman and the other swordsman.

I guess it's a small fix for the next update. Shall I upload a screenshot? I can't do it from here but I can do it later.

Otherwise, VD and this mod is superb, first-class quality!

Hey avain. I'd like to use your UB for my and Kabcsis mod as well. Is that okay for you? I want to use it as library... About that Szent István thing... I contacted Zerver because I had no more idea how to fix that. He said he will have a look on this. I recognized that you are still using the old modell of the parliament. Don't you like the new one I made with asioasioasio? Well, I have to change something on it's benefits... At the moment it can't be build if you have the latest beta installed, but I was very satisfied with the graphics...

Did you have a nice holiday yesterday?

The holiday was good, thanks.
About the UB, please use it as you wish. Don't know if you can tell, it's textured after the building of MTA. Also, I intend to rename the UB - most probably to Science University.
I hope Zerver can repair Szent István, because it's quite a good leaderhead.
Where can I find the new parliament? Also, I am aware of the problems with building it, did you have any resolution to that?

cool3a2
Mar 17, 2008, 03:06 PM
Yeah, I know what the reason is. I made it government center and that it needs to have built the palace at first. These two preferences can't be switched on at once. I uploaded the parliament as single package, but it got lost during the problems with easy upload. The only chance you have to get it is downloading the beta of my and Kabcsis mod from civ4.hu, sorry.

BTW: nothing new about the LH. Zerver didn't contact me since last week. Well, his access to the internet is very limited. Ah, and thank you for your admission:)

Nice! Thank you, Ekmek!
Care to work on it a bit more? A bit more work on the clothing and it's mostly the beard that'd help in recognizing him, I guess it could be wider and also the mustage more according to these pics:

Hey avain! Nice units. Zerver is also working on unique (hungarian) settlers. I've already done a search for traditional hungarian costumes. Let's see who's is better... The foot knight is also very well done. Maybe I'll try to make a maceman out of it (could you send me that unit, maybe via pm?). Could you make a horse knight out of it? I guess I couldn't do this... Don't know if you take requests, I'll simply write them down here. Ignore them if you want. I am not satisfied with the current musketman, it doesn't look very hungarian. Maybe something like Rákóczi on this (http://www.katolikus.hu/szombathely/kepek/rakoczi.jpg) picture. Maybe you have a better idea. Besides this a really unique hungarian explorer (not scout) would be nice.

I've actually done some work on the Széchenyi LH. I was inspired by your background, but I am not sure if my new background is working for all animations (actually there is a person behind him, but he is not visible during the standard animation). Besides this I moved him a bit so more of the background is visible and I corrected the light (you know his face is very much enlighted). If you are interested I could upload a picture here...

A lot of new units made or modified by me, it was quite a big work...

I certainly did not want to offend you with that, Ekmek. I really appreciate everything you are doing.
The main reason is: I chose Széchenyi over Kossuth. It's the same century, and I like to include distinct leaders. Also, I was looking for a Göncz Árpád or a Matthias Corvinus (that does not use Joao's animation), cool32 asked for Kossuth. And also, and again this is nothing against the leaderhead you made and the effort you put into it, but I will be honest with you now, it does not resemble Kossuth to me...

no problem. I was just wondering why I was pestered with the request (not you but cool3a2)and then it went no where.

You can be sure that cool3a2 will include it in his mod, because it's a separate one - it seems we have quite a lot of Hungary mods for such a small country, but I wanted to do my version (which is compatible with VD)...

Thanks, this is state of the art art that I'm capable of  Wanted to make them as historical as I could...
Also, quite a few of the greatest unit makers contributed, or I chose to modify their units, so kudos to them!

I also hope that you really did not take offence at what I said. I'm still amazed by the leaderheads such as Idi Amin, Cleopatra or Constantine the Great you made, because they could have been shipped with the game itself. I just think Kossuth did not turn out to be a Kossuth (to me)...

understandable. I' not as familiar with Kossuth as you so I probably miss certain details. the internet pictures appeared inconsistent so I had to go ith what I could and what cool3a2 posted.

Wow. Just WOW.

I especially like the musketman, that's my favorite. But also the swordsmen! Congratulations!!!

So, if I am not installing MEE (which I would prefer not to), then the unit we talked about, what will it be? (I can't try it now.)

Unfortunately then it's not available. But if you like, you can easily modify how the units are used, the ART_DEF is intact.

Hey avain! I got your pm. Thank you for informing me. Well, I'll see what's new with your unit (heavy swordsman). Actually I already started to replace the shield... I guess I have to do this again... I am glad to see that you have used my honved style rifleman as well. And Ekmek: I'll promise you that your Kossuth will be in the next version of my / kabcsis mod. I already made his hair a bit brown and have replaced the backgorund, so it will be definatly in. I am only waiting for Zerver, because he is working on some promising stuff. Besides this I have some real-life-stress. I hope I can post a new version of my mod on the weekend. A request to all Hungarians out there: I'd like to make unique diplomacy texts for the hungarian leaders. For this I could really need some help. No experience in modding needed. Only tell me what those leaders might say in which situation. Or at least tell me some citations. You can do this by send me a pm or by post in the other thread. Do not post it here! This is avains mod, we'll keep his thread clean!

On the heavy swordsman I just lightened the texture of the robe a bit, so nothing major...

Sounds good, I would in fact do that. But how exactly? Is there some description out there on how to do this? Or some pointers maybe? I'm extremely far from being a modder.

In fact, I've had one success with "modding": I replaced the flag used here with a 2-color double cross to suit my taste. :-)

You could try this tutorial: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=139721

Also, can you please send me that flag you are using? Thanks in advance!

Hi, here it is. I simply overwrote the corresponding files in your mod.

I took this from Symbols of the World v1.0!

I personally think that this looks much better, because it looks just like the flags of all the other civs in the vanilla game.

(It had been suggested back a while ago for the other Hungary mod to use this flag, but apparently the mod makers there preferred the colorful flag.)

Cool flag! :goodjob: I personally prefer real flags, but then you have to make the rest of the flags match.
I really have to remake that modern asian worker near the bottom. :vomit:

Yea to each his own I guess.

I personally prefur the double cross flag that was included in CivGold, mostly because I prefur things that appear "stock", i.e. look like they could have shipped with the game.

Hi, i have made some minor changes to your <*GameText.xml> files. Obviously there's no gameplay affection, just "friendlier" texts.. ;)

First of all i have inserted the italian Civilopedia descriptions, if anyone is interested.. :)

Here is the list of other changes:

1) In all the <*GameText.xml> files, i have translated the names of the buildings/leaders in the relative languages.

2) In <HungParl_CIV4GameText.xml> (The Hungarian Parliament), i have inserted the 'Strategy' texts (in english for every language except Italian).

3) In <HungParl_CIV4GameText.xml> again, for all languages i have substitueted the Pedia entry describing the Versailles with the english correct text («Budapest was united from [..]»). Then, as said, i have translated it in italian in the <italian> tag.

4) In <Solyom_CIV4GameText.xml> (László Sólyom) there was no tags for other languages. Without those tags, there are problems switching among languages in the Options menu. Then i have inserted the 'Pedia' texts (in english for every language except Italian).

5) In <Stephen_CIV4GameText.xml> (Szent István), i have changed the character "Š" with the relative ASCII code (138) because the character is not properly visualized in the Civilopedia.

6) I have re-edited <magyar_theme.mp3> (ok, it's not a text!), because yours appears to me having the beginning cutted.

The files are in the zip here:
