View Full Version : Suck!!! floppa21 Jun 14, 2002, 08:14 AM The Dretroit Bandwag... I mean Redwings bought the... I mean won the Stanley Cup again. :) Flatlander Fox Jun 14, 2002, 08:52 AM At least Hasek won one... And Scotty Bowman is gone, so now someone else can start winning Cups now. floppa21 Jun 14, 2002, 10:27 AM I don't know if Hasek winning one is a good thing. I kinda felt he was playing for that one million dollar bonus clause... But he did set a new Playoff record with 6 shutouts which is cool. I never liked him much to begin with, and when he went to Detroit, he BECAME a Redwing i.e. whiny & arrogant. Moreso than in Buffalo. I like Yzerman & Lidstrom gettin another Cup. I guess I don't hate all the Redwings. As for Bowman, he is a hell of a coach, and if he really is gone, I'm interested to see who replaces if it isn't Trotz or whatshisname... De Lorimier Jun 14, 2002, 11:37 AM "I don't know if Hasek winning one is a good thing. I kinda felt he was playing for that one million dollar bonus clause... " If this was his fifth cup, maybe. But the first and only one of his carrer? Give me a break. The guy wanted to raise the cup high above his head, nothing more. Of course, a million buck won't hurt ;) Yzerman and Shanahan won the Cup and a Gold Medal. How cool is that? You can't have a better year that that! Also very cool for Lidstrom. He's the first european player to win the Conny Smythe trophy (playoff MVP). In the 35 +/- years on this award, canadians player won every year except this year and when Brian Leetch won it with the NY Rangers in 1994. Now Hasek's going back to Czekoslovakia (horrible spelling, sorry) and I think the Wings will try to sign Curtis Joseph this summer. Go Habs Go!!! Sodak Jun 14, 2002, 01:21 PM I agree, it's good to see a long time star like Hasek win the cup. I don't mind seeing Detroit win it. Hell, didn't Borque play about 8 extra years with that same goal? Really, tho, floppa21, isn't that what pro sports is about? Using $ to pull together a successful team? Sometimes it works - e.g. the Washington Redskins in the 80's; Sometimes it doesn't - e.g. the Washington Redskins in the last two years :p . It is rather lame, tho, when the amount of $ to pull this off is not equal across the league in question. One team can buy the league's all-star squad, ten other teams can't afford a single big time player. That makes for poor publicity in the end... Irish Caesar Jun 15, 2002, 11:40 AM And also, think about the fact that the Pistons, Lions, and Tigers are all bad sports teams. Give Detroit a break! floppa21 Jun 18, 2002, 03:17 PM I'll be the 1st to admit how lucky I am to have the Avs here instead of a startup Expansion team... But Quebec/Colorado did a lot of team building through drafting, less so via free agency. Detroit has terrible farm system so they get every frickin free agent available. Who this year? Cujo definitely, Selanne? Guerin? Maybe Amonte? Fleury? Yes, Avs have 2nd or 3rd highest payroll, but NOT because we picked up the Hall of Fame in the off-season. Sakic, Floppa, Roy, Blake, Hejduk, Drury, all drafted or traded, not bought. It would not surprise me to see Detroit's payroll jump to or upwards of 80 million next season. And they will give Cujo 8, 9, 10 million dollars while Roy makes 8.5 and that is bad for the league. Pretty soon, Jimmy Blowsnow is demanding 7 mil a year or a trade. Not to mention Ilitch kid's names on the Cup. That really chaps my scrotum. Nothing against Detroit, just the Redwings, their owners, and their fans. :) I guess it evens out though. 10 years from now, Redwings will be pathetic and Colorado will be average unless the owners have unlimited money. De Lorimier Jun 18, 2002, 05:05 PM Yes but Detroit drafted Yzerman, Lidstrom, Fedorov, Draper, Maltby, McCarty, etc... and traded for Shanahan, Hasek, Duchesne, Larionov and others. They did pay for a lot of stars but they did a great job upstairs too. As an ancient fan of the Québec Nordiques I can tell you how much it sucks the way the money controls hockey like every professional sport now. I lost my team and they won the Cup the year after! :( BTW, Floppa isn't an Avs player  floppa21 Jun 19, 2002, 07:33 AM Long story but Forsberg is probably my favorite player, definitely a friend's favorite player. I added the "L" to his nickname to talk trash like he's a flop. I call him a Swedish Meatball, a floater, all that good stuff. :goodjob: But I don't think he's a flop. Well, keep an eye on the Wings free agent moves and payroll this season. ;) (I hope AVS do some free agency moves... We need to go for it NOW. With Roy about to retire, we will quickly drop out of elite status...) De Lorimier Jun 19, 2002, 04:28 PM I too think Detroit will try to get CUJO but he'll probably stay in Toronto, being an Ontario born player and all... maybe Hasek will stay (long shot). Maybe the AVS will sign Kasparaitis but I would really love to see him come in Montréal :goodjob: And Selanee too, so he'll play with his Finland pal Saku Koivu. On a sad note, Doug Gilmour is retired :( They said it today on the news, its not official so I hope its not true... Adam Oates, even if he's 39, will be a very good plyer to sign this summer for teams like Detroit and Colorado. |
