Ploep suggested I create a thread for pics of buildings I've been creating for the WHFB mod. I'll put up in game shots as I finish the buildings/wonders. Please feel free to offer suggestions and also to put up links or pics of your own of buildings you think I should attempt for this mod. Good pics aren't real easy to find except from the WHO site which I frequent a lot. ;)

P_L - feel free to throw in your in game shots of anything you create here as well. I think we'd all like to see them in action.

First up, the Tribunal which is already in the game.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/32561/Tribunal0000.JPG

Next, Bugman's Brewery which is also in the latest patch.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/32561/Brew0000.JPG

And finally, the Bloodbowl stadium which Ploep hasn't added yet.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/32561/BB0000.JPG

More to come as I'm currently working on a runesmithy model and have a dwarven temple ready to texture.

Colleges of Magic

The Celestial College:

Description: Wizards of theCelestial Order study the lore of the Heavens, or Astromancy, that lies under the province of the Wind of Azyr. The Buildings of the Celestial College lie close to the cntre of Altdorf, guarded from curiosity of passers-by by many cunning spells of concealment. It may come as a surprise to many, therefore, to discoverthat the towers of the Celestial COllege are the tallest of all buildings in the city, overlooking the temple of Sigmar and rising far above the Palace of the Princes of Altdorf. there are 16 of these tall, elegant towers, which is 4 times 4. 4 being the number of Azyr.

its about 1300 polygons, but i figured its a big wonder so, what the hey :D (if its a problem i can chop off a couple of towers to cut the count by a couple of hundred.)

Heres the link: CELESTIAL COLLEGE (http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/71834/Celestial_College.zip)

The Amethyst College:

Description: The wizards of the Amethyst order study the Lore of Death, which some call Necromancy or Spirit Lore, which lies under the province of the Wind of Shyish. The college buildingof the Amethys order is Dark and Sepulchral, Shutteres against the light and dimly illuminated even at the dead of night. its Domed towers are the abode of bats and its cellars crawl with verminouscreatures. the Buildign overlooks the misty Cemetary of Old Altdorf where thousands were hastily interred after the devastation of the Red Plague. Though the citizens of Altdorf are fully aware of where it is, none trouble the Wizards of the Amethyst Order.

this one is also around 1350 pixles.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/71834/Amethyst_College.jpg

Here is the link: AMETHYST COLLEGE (http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/71834/Amethyst_College.zip)

The Jade College

Description: Wizards of the jade order study the Lore of Life, the Wind of Ghyran. The Jade college is the centre of the order, but few wizards abide there , and even those who would learn the Lore of Life are likely to do so under the stars. Within the city of Altdorf itself, the college takes the form of a walled enclosure, plain and unimposing to the outside world, yet hidden within is a living College of trees whos boughs form the beams and bridges and pillars of mighty halls. Amongst the glades of this hidden world are numerous pools and streams where running water pours into a wonderous silver lake.

this one is also around 1000 pixles. Im workign on the water, so i might upload another version later :p

http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/71834/jade_College.jpg

Here is the link: JADE COLLEGE (http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/71834/Jade_College.rar)

The Amber College

Description: Wizards of the Amber order study the Lore of Beasts that lies under the province of the wind of Ghur. Of all the Orders of wizardry, the Amber college is the only one which has no buildings or representation within Altdorf. Instead the Masters of the Order inhabit a number of caves that lie beyond the city amongst the Amber Hills, which are named after them. these are rocky and wooded, unsuitable for agriculture or other purposes. these refuges are not easily found and visitors are not welcomed.

again this one is around 1000 polys. mainly from the trees.

Thanks. I like how it turned out as well.

I've never done effects myself, but Ploeper was going to try to mess with glowmaps eventually so hopefully that will work. Also, Rabbit might have covered this in his nif tutorials. Maybe.

I'll ask winddelay if he knows how if the other options don't pan out.

I found a pic of a Cold Ones Corral last night and whipped this up.

Ok, well ive finally redone my woodelf city art's textures and most modles

http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/71834/WE_city_set_teaser.jpg

however the three buildings that have trees arevery high polys, ~800 polys, whereas all the others are between 100 and 400 polys. does anyone know how to get normal trees from civ into the city set, like Hrochland's elf city set? (or can we just blend his and mine when i get it into the game?)

im also having trouble applying a dds texture to the modles, it comes up with an "error creating Direct 3D Device" message.
any ideas

woodelf
Nov 01, 2007, 04:49 AM
They look nice P_L. Why are the tree buildings so high poly? I don't think you can blend city art since they need to use the same dds file.

That error sounds like what I have on my laptop, something to do with Vista I think...

Psychic_Llamas
Nov 01, 2007, 07:49 AM
oh no, i have vista ... how did you fix it?

the trees have such high poly because i forgot to give them an extended base, so i extruded the edges without realising it would also extrude all the hidden useless edges too :( ill end up making more, lower poly ones later i think, once i know how to do this whole city art thing ;)

woodelf
Nov 01, 2007, 08:49 AM
oh no, i have vista ... how did you fix it?

Good question. So far there isn't a fix that I know of for max 7 and Vista. I simply model on my older computer and use the laptop for texturing. Pain in the ass, but it works until someone posts a fix.

Psychic_Llamas

I was bored today so i decided to make some modles for resources that i want:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/71834/new_resources.jpg

the tall eggy one is the Eerie, The low eggy one is the Breeding Ground, and the one that looks like a bunch of red things is the Mushrooms :D

(obviously i dont have dds files for these either, so i cant upload the files, but im working on finding someone to help out with that now ;) )

so what do you think?

woodelf
Nov 02, 2007, 06:42 AM

Ploeperpengel
Nov 02, 2007, 07:35 AM
Fantastic stuff PL! I really hope you can get your comp to work with max properly. Maybe the best solution is to install win xp as secondary OS at least that's definitly what I will do as soon I get my new machine. What for do you need Vista anyway?
I'm not sure I want to put eggs as ressource. That seems to be good for more types of lairs though!

solwen
Nov 02, 2007, 06:44 PM
Woot ! All i need for the map: mushrooms as a food ressource for the greenskins (right now i'v put toads for them to represent some sort of squig food ...) and eggs for the monster/cold ones.

Moreover i need smoke tiles that doesn't break into fire x turn later but stay there as smoke.

Psychic_Llamas
Nov 02, 2007, 11:36 PM
im glad you all like :)

the eggs thing was my idea of being a requirement for all bestial units. those that fly require and eerie (griffon, terradons, Dragons etc) , those that walk require the breeding grounds (hydra, stegadon, Kroxigor, coldones etc) but they would also work as lairs, perhaps even as a special resource generated by lizardmen units/buildings? that boosts lizardman unit production? (just ideas)

i still have my old laptop that i might be able to get working with Max as a last resort (i really dont want to have to go through the painful process of transfering data between computers.)
i got vista because it was the only opperating system they would sell me :( and i desperately needed a new comp. i might look into installing XP as a secondary OS.

Ploeperpengel
Nov 03, 2007, 04:57 AM
Ok I will add those three as ressources once I get the gfx.

Moreover i need smoke tiles that doesn't break into fire x turn later but stay there as smoke.
May I ask what for?

solwen
Nov 03, 2007, 09:31 AM
Just for "cosmetic" in places like the "smoking caves of Sotek" ,to add some flavor to the darklands and to represent some world edges mountains volcanoes that won't blow away the poor dwarves city at turn 2 ;).

Speaking of terrains, i remember that in the Civ III warhammer mod they had jungle and swamps that had a chance of killing (from disease) units that stood on them (exept undeads and LM). I think that would be fun to add a "lustrian jungle" terrain with the same effect. A moving isles terrain (having a chance of killing any boat unit on it exept asur ships) would be also neat. But this is not a priority i know.

The mamoth ressource from ffh ice age would be really nice (moreover the model is pretty) and a "wolf" ressource would be appreciated. For the eggs, perhaps only one as a ressource and the other one a lair ?

Psychic_Llamas
Nov 03, 2007, 10:04 PM
i like the idea of a 'dense jungle' or whatever casuing disease (the promotion) in units. and the mammoth would be nice too ;)

Eh.... thanks :)

Nifs? What are they?
My modelling skills are totally useless for civ4, because I use pov-ray to make my units. And pov-ray uses completely different 3d-method than most other programs. I won't go into further details, but I assure you - my models cannot be converted to civ4.... :(

Psychic_Llamas
Nov 30, 2007, 02:33 PM
We use Blender or 3DSMax to modle and Paint or GIMP to render them, then we export the files through a thing called a Nif Viewer (Nifs are the graphics files the the Civ 4 game reads i think)

whats pov ray?

Darque

POV Ray = Persistance of Vision Raytracer -> http://www.povray.org/

Yes that seems unlikely. In order to mod civ4 you either have to use Blender(that's free btw) or 3DS max. Animations can only be done in max atm. But many existing animations can be reused if you keep similar bonestructures for new models(it's normally not necessary to create a new animation for a new biped, also some machines can use existing animations i.e. our empire steamtank uses the default animations for the tank in civ4).
Both programs have plugins available that can convert files to nifformat which is what the civengine(gamebryo) can read.

Edit: I have no idea how pov works btw. But as long as it involves modeling 3D objects your skills should be portable even if the fileformat isn't.

Dec 04, 2007, 03:13 AM
Far be it for me to ever criticize someone else's texture, but it seems blurry P_L. The main roofing is fine, but the brighter purple needs something, maybe a slate style that's colored purple?

The windows are also fuzzy, but the more I look at them that isn't a huge issue. I like the model a lot. :goodjob:

Excelent work on that one woodelf :D

if you can add a large flame effect the the red glob in the midle of the stadium, and add flames o nthe top of the pillars it would make a nice Bright College :)
