This thread is going to chronicle my struggle to achieve an Incan UHV. All attempts, unless otherwise noted, are at Viceroy difficulty level.

Attempt 1:
The first attempt was detailed in this post (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=6090188&postcount=6), where i got screwed on my 16th turn by the french.

Attempt 2:
I spot a French caravel off the coast on *Turn 3*, before i've even founded a second city. Adventurers event doesn't trigger - possibly because they can't DOW me yet. Picture is attached below. Needless to say, this might save my bacon later.

Early on i sent 1 settler and 1 archer south to found Caqonatambu on the stone, left one quechua in my capitol, and sent the rest north towards Tucume. I get lucky against Tucume and my first Quechua reduces its single archer to 0.8. I take the city with an archer for the 2xp (for a guerilla promotion), and march my entire army through, leaving a quechua to garrison it.

The two archers can't penetrate the jungles north of the gold (some of which will disappear eventually), but that's ok, they've been heading north to sit on that gold hill to stop barbarians from coming in from the north. The scouts, quechua, and settlers can all get through - which is exactly my plan. The hut gave me 87 coins, which is simply amazing at this point.

France wants open borders, and its really too bad they don't have astronomy yet (commerce bonus!), and they're willing to sell feudalism for ~200 gold. I jump at the chance, make a mental note to buy more techs later, and notice they don't have civil service yet. Well, i know what I'm researching...

I lose contact with France before i finish civil service, which is annoying. I'm mildly confused, however, when I can't contact France but I can contact the Aztecs - yet the Aztecs are France's vassal... bizarre.

I found cities south of the fish in Colombia and at the mouth of the Amazon in Brazil (between the 2 spices). The second city is going to need serious help, but for now its job is to acquire culture and hold land. (Yay starting with Terraces).

1360 rolls around, and suddenly the adventurers event triggers for France... Seriously WTF? They appear next to my city in Colombia, and spread plague to it at the same time... ouch.

I am oh so confused as to why the adventurers event triggered then but not earlier. At least I bought Feudalism off them - it means I have a longbow there and am not totally hosed.

(Ongoing game, more details to follow).

The continuing saga of attempt #2. Its 1535 AD at the moment.

In response to the french DOWing me I whipped an archer (upgraded with cash to longbow), and then had walls complete in 1 turn. Eventually the plague went away. Then the french finally got bored and were willing to talk. We made peace, i kept my city, everyone was happy. (ok, i'm not sure they are, but whatever). As an added bonus, they've moved their units to the gold hill near where the northern dog soldiers spawn, which means they're now an ablative shield for me.

Repeated the trade one tech for a pile of techs with philosophy, except this time i got to trade it around to the french, spanish, and Mali (who are spain's vassal, and therefore actually had some things that were useful). Traded education around for a bunch of useful stuff as well, including Astronomy. I only wish i was in contact with more europeans (they have gunpowder, i don't, this makes me sad).

Got a settler from the hut in Argentina and founded Vilcas on the spot. Its made a settler and founded north at the point where brazil's bulge connects with argentina's straight coastline (notably so i can snag the corn in the interior while being on the coast). Have another settler about to found as near to the easternmost part of Brazil as one can without chopping jungle. I'm a little worried about the stretch between the Amazon and Colombia, but where I want to found is on a jungle, so i'm hoping i can wait for biology.

I've popped one GM in my capitol and am working on another which should be available ~1615. 2 GMs should be more than sufficient for the cash goal. Now i just need a few more settlers, and SAm will be mine! Mwahahahaha.. ahem.

Update:
Current Year: 1650

Shortly before 1600 Portugal founded Rio de Janeiro just outside my city radius. Fortunately, that means i had a city right there. Also fortunately, they brought 2 horse archers to garrison. (Horse Archers? Seriously, what the hell.) So two whipped spearmen later, Rio gets burned and the horse archers annihilated. I also get spain involved in the war on my side. (Spain is my best buddy... so weird...).

1600 comes and goes. Then portugal lands with another settler, a horse archer, and a musketman. But they seem to have learned their lesson, as instead of founding a city they just sit there. Then another musket lands with a settler and a worker. Still no founding, though they've started to move inland. I whip a musketman and my maceman finally gets there, those and the two horse archers go on the offensive. End result: i get 2 free workers and lose the maceman and the musketman. Oh well. (The actual worker portugal had there ran into the jungle where i can't chase it because i can't build Quechua anymore and i have no ivory for War Elephants).

In 1625 my 2nd GM spawns and i send them west in a Galleon. Just recently arrived near cities - searching for a good return. (If i can get 1500 per, my UHV goal will be trivial).

I am currently at the head of the tech race as far as I know, though I haven't made contact with Japan yet. (And amusingly enough, the Byzantines are still alive...).

Update:
There will be less detail because the game got boring after UHV 2 was done.

I won a UHV. By the early 1700s there was nowhere left for anyone to settle. I warred off and on with Portugal, who mostly didn't do much of anything. I was at the top of the tech race (followed closely by England for much of the endgame). La la la, its viceroy. Basically press the button and wait for the UHV to kick in.

Stability got a little worrying at the end - will have to think about that for later.

Next step: repeat on Monarch.
