View Full Version : Sid shall giveth, and Sid shall taketh away
Legal_My_Deagle Oct 28, 2007, 06:12 PM Funny gameplay experience that happened to my girlfriend...ya I got her hooked on this game :D
She plays on Warlord, so when she started with a scout playing as Pericles, she got really really lucky and had two goody huts gift her two settlers in a row, all right as she had founded her second city.
She said that at this time, most of the AIs only had 1 or 2 cities, so this was looking to be a good game.
Sid shall giveth....
As she hurried to build some city defenders, she managed to send a warrior to guard each of her 4 cities.
Just then she gets a Barbarian uprising even that spawns SWORDSMEN at her borders, and she is helpless as she watches her Warriors vainly try to defender her cities against a stack of barbarian swordsmen.
...and Sid shall taketh away.
So was destroyed by barbarians and had to start a new game :(
AfterShafter Oct 28, 2007, 06:54 PM You can get settlers from goody huts? :o Sounds rather unfortunate anyways.
gpshaw Oct 28, 2007, 07:12 PM Yeah you can get settlers from goody huts, I'm a warlord and I get them all the time.
Oh and as for you Deagle, you have a girlfriend who plays civ? I think I speak for every male on this board when I say DON'T SCREW IT UP!!!!!!
Frostyboy Oct 28, 2007, 07:12 PM I've Never experienced getting settlers from huts - like the old days. It may because of lower difficulty? When playing on Prince and higher, it never occurs.
JujuLautre Oct 28, 2007, 07:51 PM no settlers and workers from huts at noble and higher; this explains that :)
PutCashIn Oct 28, 2007, 11:43 PM Lol, my gf beat me to philosphy the other day.
Diamondeye Oct 29, 2007, 01:32 PM Lol, my gf beat me to philosphy the other day.
Lucky you >_<
Before I try to get a gf who plays civ, I might have a try at a gf at all >_>
TheWilltoAct Oct 29, 2007, 02:40 PM Lol Diamond... ain't it the truth...
Diamondeye Oct 29, 2007, 02:43 PM Lol Diamond... ain't it the truth...

maybe you should stop referring to yourself as "bat out of hell". while you CAN get a gf with that moniker, she probably won't play civ...
EDIT: you should stop saying that women playing civ is unusual before kmadcandy discovers this thread...

Or I discover it! Or my upstairs neighbour discovers it! Or all the other women out there .... ..... ..... :mwaha:
You'll have us at your throat, then where would you be? :trouble:
I wonder if I should send a link to KMad, and tip my neighbour :hmm:
Bhruic Oct 30, 2007, 08:32 AM Or I discover it! Or my upstairs neighbour discovers it! Or all the other women out there
For some reason I got a mental picture of this apartment building where all the women played Civ. Mixed in with all-night slumber parties and pillow fights.
But then I woke up. ;)

:rotfl: :woohoo: :rotfl:
Dream on!
Nope, sorry, only 5 apartments, no slumberparties, and as far as I know, only 2 women and (possibly a feamle teenager) playing civ.
And would you believe, we don't even discuss the game , we've got other things to talk about, like repairs on the building, garden upkeep and such.

...It's a title of one of my favorite albums. I have seen wierder sigs.

...I'll stop now, although KMad would prolly just giggle if she found this thread.

Dunno about your neighboor, but definately send a link to KMad, we can't have her missing out on the fun.

THAT is really funny stuff.....
King of Town Oct 31, 2007, 05:03 AM I think it is imperative to have a lady who doesn't play civ. WHo knows if I would ever leave the house if she played? I might take it too seriously and start thinking that the HRE doesn't deserve a spot in the game, or that gandhi shouldn't be in there, or that hitler should be in. Should I even mention Poland? I need her to drag me away from the computer and out into the real world :)
Kelvenor Oct 31, 2007, 07:24 AM Poland...?! What is it with Polan?
Guardian_PL Oct 31, 2007, 11:07 AM Kelvenor, You really don't want to know.
Unless You're polish as well or from Firaxis ;)

5? enough for me...
address please? ;)
Note: specially interested in the "such" part.
Ermelinho Oct 31, 2007, 11:49 AM no settlers and workers from huts at noble and higher; this explains that :)
it seems to me that this varies. i never got settlers on noble, but i did on prince a few times. donīt know what itīs like withe current patch, because i disable goody huts. but once upon a time there was a chance of gaining settlers from them at prince.

So, you really want to come and paint my balcony, tidy the attick, chop some wood etc.?
("etc" is different from "such")
To repeat myself: Dream on!

Are you playing with a mod? In a normal game only warlord and below get settlers from goody huts.
Minmaster Oct 31, 2007, 03:32 PM doesn't so many early cities kill your income?
Methos Oct 31, 2007, 05:50 PM doesn't so many early cities kill your income?
At that level, its not that much of a problem.
KMadCandy Oct 31, 2007, 09:46 PM I think it is imperative to have a lady who doesn't play civ. WHo knows if I would ever leave the house if she played?
in my case, it's more like will i ever clean the house? i blame the mess on sid meier. i think some of the dustbunnies behind the couch have been there since civ2! luckily hubby doesn't mind. he understands, he's the one that got me hooked on civ2 in the first place.
Methos Oct 31, 2007, 10:03 PM My wife already complains about how much I hog the computer. I couldn't even imagine if she ever started playing civ! My wife has also been teasing me about when our daughter gets old enough to play! Sounds great, but scary at the same time....:crazyeye:

... Just wait until there are "roads" in the dust from bed to computer, from bed to kitchen/bathroom and from kitchen/bathroom to computer. Welcome to my room :)

Sounds like we're sharing apartment
(Sid should pay for us hiring housekeepers!)
Cytral Nov 01, 2007, 05:32 AM I use a headphone.
she starts complaining, I turn the volume up
MrFelony Nov 01, 2007, 05:38 AM lol, my roommates and i just hired a maid...unfortunately to my disappointment things didnt work out so well. all the dishes are still there and nothing was cleaned when i got home :( (she wanted to be hired bi-weekly and we said no apparently)
aslindy Nov 01, 2007, 05:06 PM Dust... isn't that a form of insulation? Yeah, that's it!
Carabodes Nov 01, 2007, 06:04 PM Dust balls are nature preserves - I take good care of my dustmites, springtails, silverfish and psocopterans, but occasionally I feed them to my wall-living spiderlings.
What was this thread about again?
BtS???
