What are useful computer tips you have that don't fit elsewhere?

Here's mine -- if your computer is slow, try kicking it. I mean it. Sometimes the CPU gets clogged up with dust and crap, and kicking it knocks it out.

And other times, kicking it breaks stuff.

If you want to clean your computer, grab a can of compressed air, and spray it out.

I didn't mean kicking it HARD.

Spend some time at least once a month cleaning the dust out of the fans, especially for the graphics card and CPU. If you let dust build up, it prevents airflow and those fans will stop working. You won't get a warning from the computer until it starts to shut-down randomly or has graphics anomalies.

Dont run a computer without the case being closed either. It becomes a dust magnet.
Kicking the computer is a really bad idea. You should NEVER do that, as it can break things due to the shock ( when you hit the computer its pulling more G's than you will ever be able to). If your hard drive is working you can potentially make the heads crash into the platter, ruining it. A cd being spun up in the CD drive could bounce and get stuck, forcing you to open up the drive to get it out. The list goes on an on.

In general, its a bad idea to apply excessive force to any type of electronic product. They're usually fairly fragile.

There's a hidden conspiracy among manual writers. Civ4 manual actually includes useful tips on saving your marriage, you just have to read it right.
