I've got an interesting event to happen during my current game. I didn't think to take a screenshot at the time but I might still have an autosave of the event before it happened so I might be able to go back and possibly post a save.

Now the details. I'm running BtS 3.13 with the Brhuic patch, nothing else loaded. I started playing a shuffle map on Noble difficulty. I believe I put 12 civs on a Large map.

I'm happily going along and by now I'm pretty sure it's around 1000BC, most of the land is now occupied by culture. I'm bordered on the North by Caeser, next thing I know there is an event that says that the Barbarians have captured Rome! woo hoo for me! That means a major aggressive player has been crippled by the Barbarians and a capital city site will be easy pickings. I look at the city window and it's being occupied by 2 barbarian chariots. I look at my closest city and all I have are 2 Vultures and an Archer... arg, so I load up a Spearman into the queue and prepare for a whip so that I'll be able to injure their Chariots and take them out with my Vultures. Hit end turn. *poof* The chariots have LEFT the city and disappeared into the fog! Confused, I send my two Vultures up to Rome and walk into the city! I've now split Rome down the middle and my game is in the bag now...

I have NEVER seen Barbarians just up and leave a captured city, is this is bug or just normal behavior?

P.S. I've looked and looked but I just can't seem to find the keyboard shortcut to view the Event log. Any idea what it is? Thanks

People have seen Barbarians abandoning cities even on Deity level.

That's because babarians are lame - I mean, stupid.
A: Whoa! That was a hard fight!
B: Yeah, but finally, we've captured the largest city in the world!
A: Yeah... this is boring, let's go for a walk!
B: Sure, whatever!

OK... I just thought that it was defyingly stupid to leave it unoccupied so it must have been a bug. Guess not. Anyone have an idea about the Event log shortcut though?

barbarians like to go conquer more stuff rather than keep their cities. have you played the Warlords barbarian mod? also, its pretty historically accurate for the barbarians the sweep through rome and then move on;)

well realistically speaking barbarians are... well barbarians... if they wanted to live in cities they would be called incans or aztec... i would imagine that a barb army would go about and razing cities and then leave... and in case the didnt raze they just take wat they wanted and leave

talking about barbarians, I once had a barbarian city culture-flip to me :), it looks that some of the barbarians were seduced by the goods of civilization.

^^But the captured of flipped barb cities may have " we yearn to join our mother land" and retain barb "culture" .... Stupid as hell ( how am I going to contact the barb leader and gift him the city back? Do I get a diplo bonus with barbs if I do so?.... This is almost as stupid as seing barbs building the great wall ( they could in Warlords pre 2.08 ).... )

I've never seen Barbs guard a city with anything but Archers/Longbowman in the early game. Certainly not Chariots. Chances are they moved the Chariots out to do more pillaging while the city was building a defensive unit to defend itself. You just happened to take the city before they had completed it.

cool! actually it would have been more realistic that after sacking Rome, those barbs just burn the city to ashes and leave it in ruins... i think there should be more options when choosing the barbarian activity level for the game... normal game is too calmed, i'd like to see more barbs coming out of those barb villages or galleys. But I think raging barbarians are just too tough... if i remember in previous civ games there were different levels.

As long as "barbarian upraising" doesn't get more powerfull, I agree.
