View Full Version : New Scenario of Your Choice

Okay, I've decided to actually hunker down and complete one of the many scenarios I started but never finished. I will only make one of these for now, so I'll let you guys decide which one will be made. Of my many projects, I have narrowed it down to the three I feel are the most interesting.

Option #1: LOTR Science Fantasy- As the name says it's LOTR with all the magic and fantasy stuff it's known for, but instead of swords, bows, and horses, they have plasma rifles, hover tanks, and mechs.

Option #2: Command & Conquer- A scenario I started a long time ago and abandoned, Inow have a sudden urge to dig it up again. It will be based in the Tiberian timeline of C&C, following the struggle between the Global Defense Initiative and the Brotherhood of Nod. I will try to incorporate aspects of all three of the PC games set in the Tiberian era, with a possible Red Alert expansion.

Option #3: Tanthius War- Another Scifi scenario based on a series of short stories I wrote in high school. It is basically a WW5 situation with a little alien mischief thrown in.

Let the voting commence!

EDIT: Dammit, I forgot to put a time limit on the poll, so I'll tally the results at noon EST November 4th

I went for LOTR science fantasy because it sounds interesting albeit a little close to WH40K but there's plenty room for both.

I was actually going to try to give it a sort of cyberpunk feel, specifically to differentiate it from Warhammer 40k.

sounds cool. I love messing around with genres and placing familiar things in unfamiliar settings.

Yep, I really want to do all three of them, but I just don't have the time for that. In fact, that unit I requested in Navy's lottery was a unit that could be used in all three.

Or why don't you join the WH40k-team - to give a bit of boost to the slowly waking efforts ;)

I would love nothing more than to join the 40k team, but I'm afraid I would just be dead weight. The skills I do have in modding CivIII are things you guys already have people for, and it's not like I can make units or graphics for the mod.

Plus, it is my personal philosophy that the more people you have on a mod team, the longer it will take that mod to be completed because you have to make sure everyone is on the same page and agrees with the direction the mod is heading. This leads to a lot of extra discussion that would not take place with a smaller mod team, which in turn, slows down production.

Going along that logic, I couldn't join you for the simple fact that I don't want to slow you guys down. Thanks for the offer though.:)

That is so true, and reminds me of a line from the Dragonlance rule book (yes, I'm that geeky), to the effect that the time it takes a gnome to construct a device is invariable, no matter how many extra gnomes are assigned to the task - and if you've ever worked with gnomes, you'll know why.

A corollary of this is what I call PCC Syndrome, according to which, the less important the subject being debated, the longer and more impassioned the impasse over it will be.

And what skills do you have, precisely? :)

As much as I'd like to see Gandalf with a plasma rifle, I voted for C&C. I think it has the most potential. :)

Here are my skills from strongest to weakest:

Backstory (you don't need that for 40k)/Civilopedia entries
Game Concept Ideas
Unit Ideas (again, something you guys don't need)
Map making

And, obviously, I can put a scenario together, otherwise I wouldn't be doing this.

Well, we can always use game concept ideas and someone who can put together a mod.. I can only cover the backstory part, and I`m a member ;) Want to work for a Taskmaster? Visit exciting places? Meet new people and then shoot them? Call 0800 - WH40k Development.

Alright, what do I have to do to join?

Keep in mind though, that whatever scenario wins the vote here will take priority over the 40k mod until it is completed.

I requested a Mammoth Tank in a unit lottery, but it didn't win.

I can't remember exactly, it was a pretty long time ago. I think it was either Kinboat's last unit lottery or one of aaglo's.

No, it was wyrmshadows lottery

Leaven seconded the request for mammoth tank and won! But I have not heard anything since:

You're right, I just looked it up. I didn't even request it in that lottery. I must be thinking of one of my older requests.

Okay, the voting is done, and the winner is the Command & Conquer scenario (probably for the best, seeing as of the three, that is the one that is closest to completion).

LOL is there anyone brave enough to ask wyrm if he will still make the unit we know how cranky he can get:mad:
