View Full Version : Computer winning UHVs?
AnotherPacifist Nov 03, 2007, 04:56 PM The max I've seen a civ get is 2/3 criteria (France with their American cities and most culture in 1700).
Why doesn't the computer even try to win a UHV? It's easily doable for Japan, Turkey, Rome, Netherlands, since they don't need the extreme specialization that certain civs (Vikings, Mali, Chinese, Mongolia, India, Aztecs, and yes, INCANS!!) need. You even see the Portuguese and Netherlands to go for their map criteria by exploring Russia early in the game, and sometimes one of them gets 1/3 in 1500 and 1600.
genovais Nov 03, 2007, 10:31 PM In an earlier build, I actually did have AI Japan get UHV once... but it was probably incidental rather than the AI actually aiming for it.
Virdrago Nov 04, 2007, 01:13 AM I've seen the Netherlands with two, and they had four spice resources, as well, but it may have been an anomaly.
Theodorick Nov 04, 2007, 03:00 AM I think Rhye made it so the civs cannot get a UHV, so at the most they will only get 2 out of 3. The reason I say this is because of how Turkey acts. It just does not go west. Also Rome never founds any cities in Spain--it will take Carthage sometimes though.
Lone Wolf Nov 04, 2007, 03:09 AM I hope that is not the case.

I don't think so- there were threats about Japan AI winning UHV. However, it can be annoying- you wait an hour for American start and there is message that you have lost thanks to Japan UHV.
Lone Wolf Nov 04, 2007, 07:23 AM Anyway the Warlords AI is sooo dumb when it comes to attacking cities. For example, Germany and France warring and a small German stack of a Rifleman, two Cavalrys and two Cannons attacking Paris while 15 Cavalrys, 10 Cannons and 10 Riflemen sit in Berlin doing nothing useful.
And I've seen Rome founding some cities it Spain.
Rhye Nov 04, 2007, 12:59 PM unfortunately it's nearly impossible to teach the AI to pursue it
onedreamer Nov 05, 2007, 11:01 AM but IMO compared to the earlier builds the AI tries for them much more than before. For example Greece does try to build the wonders, and China and Babylon do the research they should, England colonizes the north american east coast, France canada, Portugal and Spain South America, etc etc.
Lokolus Nov 07, 2007, 10:45 AM But the Dutch never settle Indonesia, they always colonize South Africa and sometimes they settle in the Caribbeans, north South America and New York.
Virdrago Nov 09, 2007, 05:21 PM No, they don't - they bypass it completely and settle Northern Australia. Sometimes they found two or three in Australia, but they leave Indonesia alone.
onedreamer Nov 10, 2007, 01:41 AM I wouldn't blame the AI since Indonesia is completely unproductive...

After Steam Power nothing is unproductive for the Dutch :D
Śmarth Nov 10, 2007, 11:46 AM I dunno, don't you think it would be annoying if you just started a game and an older AI civ won?

Jakarta can support a fair number of specialists, though, and there's always the whip.

No rivers in Indonesia, so no dikes.
simakis Nov 10, 2007, 06:47 PM Not 100% sure its been a few weeks since i played rfc but i had colonized the whole Australian coast with the Dutch and i had Dikes in every city, i think you can build them as long as its a coastal city.
Virdrago Nov 10, 2007, 11:19 PM BTW, Arabia founded Jayakarta in my last Khmer game...

You're probably right about that--I rarely play as the Dutch.
