View Full Version : Help With Primitives In Poser...

I'm currently trying to make a certain type of skirt armor typical of Ancient Greek warriors and was wondering if it is possible to make lots of primitives and then merge them to create a single prop (with multiple elements that can be recolored in the material room nonetheless)? Also, how do I "copy and paste" a certain primitive set (so that I can save time making each segment of the prop)?

I should probably explain my intentions a little better. I am taking a square tile and making it long so that it resembles one of the leather strap segments that make up the skirt. On that I am placing another square tile to make it look like a bolt that holds the leather together. At that point I'd like to "merge down the smaller square onto the bigger one and then simply copy and paste the "new" mini-prop. After getting each element into position, I want to "merge" all mini-props into one big one. I hope that made sense.

Here's the picture I'm using as reference (I want to make the blue'ish leather skirt that is part of the armor).

Any ideas?

I don`t know the answer to your question but there are those leather thingies used by Kinboat`s Roman Figure, maybe you can make something with that?

I suppose that guy will be my next spartan unit. :D

^ Well, actually I'm making him already, so it might be better to take up another Spartan model for your unit. Seems kind of counter-productive to make the EXACT same unit twice, eh? ;)

I don't know exactly what Roman unit you refer to, though I figure you're referring to the Buffalo Soldier that Kinboat made. Problem with that is that it first of all, hasn't been working good with the kilt and second of all needs to be all around and not just in the pelvic region. Maybe it's possible to augment the Buffalo Soldier prop but I would still require help with that as well. I guess I have to wait for some other unit-makers to post some ideas.

Kinboat`s Roman Legion? Bottom row, 2nd from the right?

You're right, it doesn't belong to the Bufafalo Soldier set, but my problem getting it to fit with the kilt and all still persists...and so does the fact that it only covers the pelvic region. Thanks for taking the time though.

The only way I know of is this:

(1) Assemble your primitives.
(2) Choose "Export as 3DS Object" from the File menu.
(3) Select all the objects that you want to be part of the new prop.
(4) Export.
(5) Import the exact same thing again.
(6) Resize it if necessary (for some reason it's never the same size).
(7) Save to the library as a prop.

Seems a bit roundabout, but it works.

In your case, you might try an alternative method of making the skirt - try applying a bitmap to one of Kinboat's kilts rather than constructing it bit-by-bit like that.

Gen.Rommel, check your e-mail box. Maybe those files could help you. :)

Yeah, that was basically the idea I came to eventually as well. I figured I could save a hell of a lot of time by just making a texture for it. The one I made was basic but identifiable...however, Sandris sent me some really nice ones which I think I'll opt for instead. Thanks for those by the way, they really help! :goodjob:

As far as I'm aware the Armour of the Greeks were just folded cloth, not leather(not always)
