View Full Version : Moving on to CIV
Commodore Nov 05, 2007, 10:18 PM Well as you can guess from the title I will be moving all of my modding efforts over to Civilization IV. I have made a few friends over on their forum, and one of them has made me a pretty good offer to come and help him mod.
Couple that with my dwindling faith in this modding community, and there is really no reason for me to stick around here. For those few of you who were anticipating my projects, I apologize that I will not bring my works to CivIII. To those even fewer who offered me their assistance, I thank you and wish you well in your own modding projects.

Nah, I'm not well known enough around here to pay a visit sometime. Trust me, in a week you won't even remember who I am. In fact, the only reason I made ths thread was to inform anyone who may have been aware of my projects that they will not see completion (at least not for CivIII).
R8XFT Nov 06, 2007, 05:21 AM Good luck with your CIV project. I have also been on the CIV forums and started a version of my current mod there a while back, but things didn't work out and I moved back to CivIII. I am considering moving it to CIV due to quite a number of things that I like about that game; however there are two main things holding me back:
01. I don't like the fact I can't do animated leaderheads (i.e. original ones, not Caesar and Isabella in disguise).
02. The guys on the forum here are great. I know quite a few of them do CIV as well, but I'd miss a lot of people. I also know there's some great guys on the other forums too, but it's not quite the same...
Pounder Nov 06, 2007, 05:50 AM I went to CIV for over a year, but came back to CIII because I enjoy the game more. There are some aspects of the game that were lost in CIV and some new elements that were too dominant in the game.
TopGun Nov 06, 2007, 07:01 AM To quote Freddie Mercury: "..and another one gone. Another one bites the dust."
Good bye and good luck!
Madeira Nov 06, 2007, 08:36 AM I've been trying to finish a game in CIV to see how it is in the end, usually loose interest around the middle ages... I'll probably uninstall the game once I succeed, thats how much I like CIV.
Good luck over there :)
Ares de Borg Nov 06, 2007, 08:55 AM I'm sorry to confess this was the first post I've ever seen of you... what projects were you engaged in?
Good Luck on the dark side.
Gary Childress Nov 06, 2007, 09:06 AM I don't know what it is about Civ IV but I don't particularly care for it either. I find Civ III much more enjoyable myself.
But good luck with the move! Don't forget to write! :)

Don't feel bad, there are only MAYBE four people here, that are vaguely aware of some of my current work and previous works that I have abandoned.
As I said, I'm really kind of a non-entity here. So rather than stick around and make a name for myself here, I decided to leave my mark on CIV. I'm not even starting my own projects over there though, I'm just helping out with other people's stuff (mostly because CIV uses XML, which I am very comfortable working with).
Weasel Op Nov 06, 2007, 10:47 AM Goodbye Commodore, I for one will miss you (again ;)). Maybe someday you will see the light and return to Civ3, as several before you have.
Virote_Considon Nov 06, 2007, 11:35 AM Bye Commodore!
I haven't posted over *there* in a good few months...

i don't want to offend anyone, but for me all this modding business is all just a highly enjoyable waste of time after dinner when my stomache's full. ;)

...and so it was for me...until I got really hooked. In fact, I'm probably at least as interested in creating a mod as I am playing the game!

Yeah, same here. I am hooked, seriously hooked.
I love playing the game as much as I love making units...

It's a known fact that a modder never enjoys his own mod as much as the other people that play it. Might be due to him being too accustomed to the balance and feel of the mod, since he knows it inside out. Therefore, we modders need to get our fun somewhere, and the mod creation is exactly that!
Unfortunate to hear about your decision Commodore, but if it's what you'd prefer, it's most likely the best choice. But never feel that you are not welcome here. I'm sure lots of people don't know me, simply because I stick to a strict few areas and hardly venture beyond them. But that doesn't mean the people I have interacted with haven't been damn nice. This place has really helped me improve my skills in graphic editing as well as unit making (the former I was only able to work at moderately before and the latter was non-existant in my knowledge query altogether).
