What difficulty level is the fairest in terms of humans and AI getting similar bonuses?
I have played on noble since the game came out, and got BTS recently, where my performance increased dramaitcally (sp!). That could have been caused by my change in tactics, using a CE rather than a SE, but i have a feeling that i might be getting a unfair fight with the AI and want to move to a level where the AI and me are on level terms.

I think noble is actually "fairest" for both, try prince/monarch to see how you fare if noble feels too easy.

I think the fairest is Prince - both AI and human starting in the same conditions - no bonus & handicaps.

Still, 3.13 prince AI is enhanced regarding the use of traits, research, specialists, terrain etc. It's wise to be confident enough on Noble before jumping on prince - otherwise you'll get eaten :p

Hi, Joe.
There is never exactly similar bonuses/penalties, but noble is the closest to
that.
BTW, BTS is harder than previous versions.
Best regards,

I am extremely confident on noble, normally in a position to win the game (problem is that i don't like loading up games, i prefer starting a new one)
so you think i should try prince?

Hi fed

Problem is that i actually find noble alot more easier one BTS then warlords, but i don't like playing AI with loads of bonuses because i like playing on a fair even ground

Definitely try it.

To start, pick a leader with whom you're confident enough and which you can exploit well ( traits, UU, UB ). Than, pick a map script you like and fire it up.

You can also handpick your opposition, avoiding psychos like Shaka, Genghis or Montezuma near you.

I think you will do greatly :)

Emperor :mischief:

human players have tons of advantages over the AI strategy-wise, so it's only "fair" to give them their own advantages to make it up

For me, that is only going to go badly!

heh i was sort of kidding. it all depends on how good you are at civ. people who win consistently on deity probably think that is the best level for them because of the "advantage" they have over the AI. It all really depends on how skilled you are at the game, so for you I'd suggest trying Prince, and if you do well after your first 4 games or so, try monarch. and if you get smashed like i did my first couple of monarch games, keep trying it for about maybe 5-10 games, and if you don't improve either move back down to prince or comb the forums for advice and strategy. for me, i just moved up to immortal before i quit civ to focus on school (no one said anything about posting on the forum :mischief:) so i know what you mean about it going badly

As I always understoon, Vanilla and Warlords Nobel is considered the balanced level.

In my experience, the AI techs slower in BTS and upgrade units slower but plays better.

Vanilla/Warlords Prince = BTS Monarch as far as tech speed.

Hm, Noble is "fairest" in terms of bonuses, but the AI are retarded on lower levels.

The way I understand it, BTS made the game harder for people who rely on conquest heavily, easier for people who use more of a Builder style. So in my case, it made the game easier. The AI is still noticeably smarter though.

It all depends on how skilled you are.

On noble neither you nor the AI receive any bonuses, but you will eventually reach a point where you are able to launch a spaceship while the AI is barely discovering gunpowder. That doesn't really seem fair. IMO, the "fairest" level is where you can barely beat the AI if you make mostly good decisions. If you find yourself well ahead of the AI in score for the duration of the game, or if you are winning space race victories before the AI has even started building theirs, you should probably move up.

Seeing that some people on this forum (not me!) just cruise through immortal, I guess the fair level is deity ;)

Yeah Noble is closest, but I still don't like the 10 free hammers AI gets. This also muddies up multiplayer because if you leave and AI takes over, then you rejoin you get 10 free hammers per city as well.

Tried a game on Prince, quick speed (unfortually due to the unique way my computer works, i can't give the save) I started out near the coast with tundra to the south and desert to the west and only one metal resources, but i did have horses. I was a lot lower in the score, but i was able to compete with the computer on techs and mange to conquer a fair chunk of Portugals land.

Diety is the "fairest game" for you. If you play this more often, you'll realize that levels lower than that are much more easier. Mastering Diety is the only way you'll beat "civaddict" in Multiplayer.
