What do you think is the best console?

1. Computer
2. Wii (you forgot)
3. PS2

In terms of sales, the Wii is winning he new battle, but I think that'll only last for another 8 months or so.

It's cool. I actually spent more time playing the Gamecube, GBA, and PS2 then Wii so far, but because I can still play Smash Bros. Melee on it and because Brawl is coming out on it it automatically places second on my list.

PC, distantly followed by Wii and 360. The DS is the best handheld, IMO, but only because it can play GBA games.

1. PC.

2. Not another of these threads.

Right now the best console is the XBox 360, but the Wii is catching up. PS2 is probably second, as handhelds and PCs aren't consoles...

I prefer my PC. There's no dwarf fortress for any console. :p

The PS2 is still sold alongside with the PS3 here. They're in shelves right next to each other. Kids whine "I want a Playstation for christmas". Guess which one they get when their parents go shopping and see the price tag on PS3.

PC, followed by a huge gap, followed by the SNES, followed by a great gap, followed by the PS1 (for Tekken 3).

I'm not going to post a list of games to justify the pole position for the PC platform, i hold it to be self evident.

Here's a partial list of games which are (also) for the SNES and put it in the second place:

Secret of Mana
Eye of the Beholder
Dungeon Master
Wolfenstein 3D
BlackThorne
Earthworm Jim
Chrono Trigger
Worms
Prince of Persia

I think it's kind of silly to compare PCs to consoles. There's basically an infinite number of different setups that can constitute a PC, and many (most?) setups aren't even used to play games. Consoles are dedicated gaming hardware, with libraries specific to each platform. The functionality of the two overlaps, but in the end they are often used for different purposes.

Obviously I use my PC more than anything else. Of course, a lot of that time is spent working, so I'm not sure how accurate the comparison really is. I also own a Wii and have been quite happy with it so far. :)

You may also want to look at this similar thread from last year. Some of the predictions are quite humorous in retrospect. ;)

The predictions that the PS3 would blow everyone else out of the water? Yeah, they are pretty amusing.

That can happen maybe in another 2 or more years?

Mainly because PS2 still is the most stable console while PS3, just new, is costly. Here in the Phils., I can see people buying PS2 consoles and a game called Dynasty Warriors as advertized in a bulletin near SM.

The fact that Sony hasn't phased out the PS2 yet just proves that the PS3 isn't successful enough to compete with the Wii or 360.

I wouldn't say that, the ps1 was still going strong for quite some time after the ps2 was released after all.

But people are buying the other newer consoles this time around.

But people are buying the other newer consoles this time around.

Why? Because they have no choice with the 360 and the Wii is cheap. Sony will win again. There is no reason to take the PS2 off the market when it still moves more units than 360.

I think I've said it before, but I'm fairly certain our underlying animosity and general hatred for the other is because you're a SNES fan, while I'm a Mega-Drive lover. And the PS1? Clearly beaten by the Dreamcast! Yet at the same time we find a kindred spirit in our love for the PC.

Honestly, if I could find the time, we would make an epic superhero-villain story for the internet age :D

I voted PC - you can't play CivIII or post on CFC on any of the others. Well, I guess the Wii can browse the Web, but that's not an option, and doesn't have a keyboard.

Other the PC, I'd say the "best" one is the PS2, just based on its success, and the XBox would be my favorite. The only other ones I've played on recently are Dreamcast and XBox 360 (prefer XBox though because my friends' 360s keeping overheating and dying, and I've only played Halo 2, not 3).

Still have yet to play Wii or PS3. Haven't even seen a PS3 yet.

btw, that comic artist made one of the Civ ones this summer. Surprised I remember that.

I voted PS2, because PC is not a console. It is a "Personal Computer"

Also, this is a pretty bad list in the poll. It doesn't include Wii, N64, SNES, NES, PS1, Dreamcast, or Genesis. I think that those options should all be in, and the PC option should be removed. Also, handhelds are borderline... I probably wouldn't have included them.

They never told me about the insane payroll for henchmen, when i signed up for this villain job. I can only assume (and not without glee!) that helping the needy and defending the meek is also a drain on the finances. Indeed, it seems like has become impossible to pursue our professions full time.

That's being said, your mention of the Mega-Drive warrants another assassin attempt. Some peon will just have to go without food for a month to keep the budget in balance.
