I'm pretty sure it's Beavers on a plain... I think I've seen that exactly once.

View Full Version : Rarest tile-resource combo? vormuir Nov 09, 2007, 08:17 AM I'm pretty sure it's Beavers on a plain... I think I've seen that exactly once. Waldo Kietharr Nov 09, 2007, 08:33 AM Incense on a non desert tile, it can happen but it's extremely uncommon. r_rolo1 Nov 09, 2007, 08:43 AM Plains deer.... never saw it in my games Squarg Nov 09, 2007, 08:58 AM I actually have an game where I got 5 gold on flood plains, but that was a fantasy map (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=228951). Orion071 Nov 09, 2007, 10:18 AM I'm pretty sure it's Beavers on a plain... I think I've seen that exactly once. Waldo Incense on a non desert tile, it can happen but it's extremely uncommon. Plains deer.... never saw it in my games The only time I see any of these is when my capital starts way up in the icy regions and the map generator turns all of the Tundra and Ice tiles in the BFC to Plains. I'm pretty sure that's the only time these will happen. OK, the Incense is when the capital starts in the desert, but it's the same concept. The map generator will improve your BFC and remove the "useless" desert, tundra and ice tiles. Ad Hoc Nov 09, 2007, 10:24 AM i've seen all of these, but i must admit that i've only seen incense not on a desert tile once. i hadn't picked up the connection with the BFC of capitals but it could be right. MrCynical Nov 09, 2007, 10:32 AM Plains/Incense and Plains/Silver are the really unusual ones I find. Plains/Deer I see quite often, as the map generator often beautifies polar starts with food resources. Plains/fur I also see quite often - frequently in large clumps. Elandal Nov 09, 2007, 11:46 AM It's fairly easy to check the terrains various resources can appear in from Assets\XML\Terrain\CIV4BonusInfos.xml (Warlords and BTS both use the vanilla file). Where some bonus appears on terrain it normally can't appear on, it's always due to starting location normalization which turns desert / tundra / snow into plains, removes jungles, and may more. Eg. non-jungle grassland ivory is not possible outside capitol normalization, as ivory can appear on plains and jungled grassland, but not on non-jungle grassland. That people mainly consider deer / fur / silver / incense is because those do not appear on "good" terrain, only on "bad" terrain (desert / tundra / snow). vormuir Nov 09, 2007, 02:28 PM You know what? This thread was inspired because I saw the beavers-plain combo just outside of Washington... which was down near the south pole. As you say, the map generator must have upgraded from tundra. Cool. Waldo Peluin Nov 09, 2007, 03:20 PM Every couple dozen maps on Great Plains, I've seen flood plains corn tiles. That's a lotta food! vicawoo Nov 09, 2007, 04:34 PM I've had plains deer and plains hill silver before. Don't remember beavers, but then again, I usually don't try to settle near them. I've never seen grassland deer, as some people have mentioned. gallego Nov 09, 2007, 04:37 PM I'm pretty sure it's Beavers on a plain... I think I've seen that exactly once. Waldo I actually just had a starting position with about five of those... Silver Marmot Nov 09, 2007, 04:49 PM Funny... I just started a game and had two plains fur and a plains deer right by my city. Belial Nov 09, 2007, 04:52 PM Metal on an island in your bfc of your capital. xanadux Nov 09, 2007, 06:11 PM Ocean Cows. Zhalvir Nov 09, 2007, 11:06 PM I'm pretty sure it's Beavers on a plain... I think I've seen that exactly once. Waldo For some reason, I had a flash of Samuel L. Jackson yelling... Elandal Nov 09, 2007, 11:25 PM Some maps have different resource placement. Fantasy map is obvious one: you can have any feature and resource on any terrain type - including grassland floodplain corn. Great Plains has separate resource placement as well - eg. grassland deer which can't occur normally. vicawoo Nov 10, 2007, 02:38 AM Ocean Cows. Civ manatees are only found at jungle latitudes, where there is minimal coastline compared to tundra regions. They're rarer than whales. Diamondeye Nov 10, 2007, 08:27 AM I'm pretty sure it's Beavers on a plain... I think I've seen that exactly once.
