View Full Version : Questions about Civilization Revolution?

Hey guys,

First a quick introduction: I'm Elizabeth, Community Manager at 2K. I'm going to be heading up all the community efforts for Civilization Revolution between now and release.

I'm a long time Civ player since Civ II dominated my life back in middle school, and have been a severe addict ever since. My favorite Civ is the Russians, and right now I'm in a Pitboss battle and working on strategies for Warlords Barbarian scenario.

The official community site for Civ Rev isn't up yet, but Civ Fanatics pretty much blows anything I could ever create out of the water. So I'm coming to you guys with a very simple question to start: When I kick off the Civ Rev community site, what would you like to hear about? Are there any features or aspects of the game you are wondering about that you'd like me to focus on? What questions would you like to grab Sid and ask him?

I'm really excited about this game -- as a stedfast Civ PC Gamer, I was wondering how it would live up to my favorite game of all time. And honestly, I've requested a 360 be put in my office so I can play the in-progress build during my free time.

All right. Ask away! Whatever you ask is what I'm going to use to build my community site, so don't leave anything out.

-e.

Did they officially change the name from Shaka of the Africans to Shaka of the Zulu. I heard something about it but I want to be sure;)

It was Shaka Zulu of the Zulu, not the Africans, I saw when I previewed the game at Firaxis' office (alongside Padma) earlier this month.

Here is some questions to get yah mind thinking -

What shader version will the game run off? Im guessing 3.0?

Add more African Civs?

Can you recruit or hire mercenaries?

Whats the age limit etc..?

What engine is the game based upon?

Expansion pack? for Pc?

Civ5 after this?

Are going to reply? lolz..?

Will there be offline multiplayer. I don't play online and would like to play against my friends offline.

When will we be getting more news and a more concrete release date?

I realize I am with neither 2K or Firaxis :D, but I'll give these latest batch a go...

What shader version will the game run off? Im guessing 3.0?
I have no idea.

Add more African Civs?
The game has its 16 civilizations in place. It could happen in an expansion, I suppose, but it's too early to be thinking about that possibility.

Can you recruit or hire mercenaries?
Hmmm... I don't believe this question has been asked yet, so I don't know of an answer to it.

Whats the age limit etc..?
As in when does the game 'end' as standard?

What engine is the game based upon?
I don't know/recall the name, but it's not the one that Civilization IV was developed under (GameBryo).

Expansion pack? for Pc?
Again, it's too early to be thinking expansion pack for CivRev just yet. CivRev could technically come to the PC, but it's highly unlikely.

Civ5 after this?
Where'd I put my crystal ball? ;)

Will there be offline multiplayer...
As in hotseat? No, but if memory serves LAN (Local Area Network) is a possibility.

"As we watch the days, the weeks, the months, go by, we wait patiently. We are waiting for the day, that glorious day, when the number increases. Yes, that special number, the number of hope and knowledge. What is this number? We are waiting for the day when that number increases. That number is 1. We sit here at our humble abodes, waiting. We are waiting for the day when the number 1, the special number 1, changes. Into another wonderful number. That number is 2. We are waiting patiently for the day, that glorious day, when the number 1, that special number 1, turns into the number 2, the wonderful number 2, for which we are waiting so patiently for. What does this number represent? We are waiting patiently for the day, that glorious day, when the number 1, that special number 1, turns into the number 2, the wonderful number 2, for which we are waiting so patiently for. That number represents 2K Elizabeth's post count!"

Well at least SOMEONE bothered to reply..
Here some more questions, if yah up for it :P..!

Will the game be more 'ironed-out' so to speak? I mean we don't need another 'patch-the-patch' thing as seen with Civ4+ :(

TOTAL vista compatibility?

The appearance of some of the leaders (Cleo for exam), hot? or just a step down from porn :/?

Graphics... suitable? or just laughable? (Cartoony)

A playable demo? soon?...

Any old fav music from Civ 1,2,3 or 4 in game?

"Modder-Friendly" for Pc?

System Requirements?

Will the game be more 'ironed-out' so to speak? I mean we don't need another 'patch-the-patch' thing as seen with Civ4+ :(Console games don't usually get patches, so they want it to be as solid as possible.
TOTAL vista compatibility? What for? This game is *NOT* for the PC.
The appearance of some of the leaders (Cleo for exam), hot? or just a step down from porn :/?Depends on your definition of "hot" and/or "porn". ;)
Graphics... suitable? or just laughable? (Cartoony)Similar to Civ4 (imho).
A playable demo? soon?...It was still pre-alpha when Dan and I played it earlier this month....
Any old fav music from Civ 1,2,3 or 4 in game? Not that I noticed, but then, I wasn't really listening to the music. ;)

Um, you're welcome? :mischief::D

Missed a few...

Hmm... A Civ list,
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=6117509&postcount=1

some Civilopedia info, a bit on changed game settings for us old dorks as well as a new introduction for newbies.
That will come out in my multi-part preview in part and in some capacity(ies)...

Especially a bit civilopedia info would be great on each civ.
It won't be for every civilization, but watch for Part 3 of my said preview for some of that. :yup:

I'm curious to hear about the different scenarios. It seems like that's the part where Revolutions can really make things different and set itself apart from the PC series.
Other than the "Game of the Week" which will be a series of scenarios of a sort, I'm not certain what scenarios you're referring to (unless I really zoned out when the presence of one or more of them were announced...)

What happened to Persia?
I don't know any specifics on why Persia or any civilization not in this game was excluded. I will say that I don't believe for a moment that it is anything 'against' Persia or otherwise.

When will we be getting... a more concrete release date?
As we get closer to Spring 2008 I expect the release date will get more specific for all but the Wii. As the Wii is to come out next fall, once we get closer to that season a more definitive release date is likely to become public.

I'd like to ask if it would be possuilbe to have a British rather then an English civ this time?
I would say that the answer to that is no: the identities of the sixteen civilizations are set.

Good folks, 2K Elizabeth said, "When I kick off the Civ Rev community site, what would you like to hear about?" She never said she was going to answer anything here.

Now, when the CivRev site is up and running, I'd like to:

(1) read After Action Reports of completed games/scenarios by the test team.
(2) learn about the UI for the DS and Wii systems.
(3) learn how saves will be managed on the DS, particularly in regard to the downloadable content (e.g. game of the week).

Umm why wont they release Civ Rev on PC?..
This has been addressed in a number of previews/interviews, but I'll quote a recent one (http://www.craveonline.com/articles/gaming/04648900/civilization_revolution_producer_barry_caudill.htm l) here with the game's Producer Barry Caudill:

.. we could have made a game like this for the PC but we would have confused our marketplace, because all of the Civ fans would have been expecting Civ5 and they would have gotten Civ Revolution, it would have confused some it would have made some guys mad, and made some people pull away from the series. By bringing it over to the console, we can make a clean break and start fresh.

Max unit count?
Hmmm. I don't know if there is one.

All upgrade unit promotion information?
I will be detailing that in any upcoming part of my preview for the game.

Religions?
There is no religion system in CivRev.

Army Formations?
Three units of the same type (e.g. Phalanx) can be used to form an army.

Civ Rev. for PSP..Rumours or real?
Rumour at best as far as I'm concerned.

16 Civilizations.. more = better :(...
I don't agree that "more = better" . It's possible, but it's as equally possible that "more = bogged down". Balance is key. In my opinion, 16 is a good number of civilizations for a Civ game. I'd rather 16 quality civilizations, which is what I'm seeing in CivRev, than more but of less or no quality.

Civ Rev. website.. Omfg.. can we get it going?!
Ah, the official one? I know that this question is not directed at me as with all others :D, but I will say that I have no knowledge of its status at all (other than what I can see of it as you can). That is also a question for 2K, not Firaxis.

2K Games Civilization Community Relations Manager Elizabeth "2K_Elizabeth" Tobey is to appear on an upcoming episode of PolyCast, the official podcast (http://polycast.apolyton.net) of Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS). She will be answering questions about the up-and-coming Civilization: Revolution, the first Civ title being developed and marketed for console gamers.

Questions already posted in this thread will be considered for inclusion, but more are welcomed and encouraged. An ongoing detailed preview of the game on ACS is available for viewing (http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?postid=5120755#post5120755) to likely assisting in answering some gamer inquiries while hopefully generating others.

To be considered for inclusion on the episode Tobey is to appear on, questions need to be posted in this thread no later than [DATE PASSED]. The podcast is to begin its shiny second season tomorrow.

Elizabeth,

How will multiplayer work? Will it go through XBox Live? If so, how do you play with someone who has a PS3?

Will there be downloadable content? Here is my fear, and it is not unfounded. I buy CivRev and like it. All of a sudden several months later there is a plethora of downloadable content that will add to my CivRev gaming experience. This content will, of course, come with a price or XBox Live points. Soooooo.... do you already have a deal with Microsoft to provide content (upgrades) to CivRev?????

Am I the only one with an XBox360 that thinks this is going to happen?

You will most likely get an answer on the official forums quicker. One of the community managers are going to ask Firaxis a number of questions in a day or so. Now your question is totally irrelevant to me as a PS3 player and if your question is taken it might take out one of the questions that I'm interested in, BUT WHO CARES? Thats great to hear. I'm on the fence in deciding whether to just do offline GotW games and upload scores or go gold and play multiplayer.

I listened to the podcasts and read forums and most say 2-3 hours a game on average. I have a feeling it may be closer to the 3 hour mark. Which may be too long for me.

But then again, I'll probably loose most games in under 30 min

well actually im not 100% sure of that now, the game makers at firaxis said you'll be able to play multiplayer locally in a podcast, though im not sure if they were referring to hotseat or link-up. (where you link two game consoles to each other.)

But yeah civ without hotseat is s step down. Civ single player can be as long as possible but multiplayer needs to be shorter, but whats the point in making multiplayer game short if you eliminate the ability to play the game with two players in one room.
