You will NOT believe this. I was playing a game on a Huge Big & Small map. The Indian Civilization was wiped out BEFORE I ever met them-back around 2000BC. When I finally got hold of a map of that region, I saw the two Indian Cities now in the hands of BARBARIANS. Ouch, that's harsh. Anyone else see this kind of thing?

you should check in the funny screenshot thread in the general CIV forum; if I'm correct, there are screenshot of a game where TWO whole civilizations were wiped out by barbs :)

I had the barbs in control of the entoire french civilization of four cities, which included the hindu/jewish holy city. Needless to say I soon converted to judaisim and sailed to an easy victory.

I believe it. In my most recent game, huge continents, both Shaka and Bismarck were wiped out, their capitals razed by a barb uprising around 3000 BC.

The barb uprising event is *nasty* when it comes early. I once got a horde of barb axemen from it, near my capital defended by one warrior. I finished the Great Wall one turn before they reached me. I am now very fond of the Great Wall and less likely to skimp on early defenders.

Ya the early barb events are scary. Make sure you have a defensive unit in your capital after turn 30, because even if they spawn for someone else, they will turn around and head for your unguarded capital. That being said, if they do manage to take over an AI's capital near you, send a unit over to take the capital, because the barbs seem to frequently leave it undefended.

The Great Wall is awesome when the barb uprising event happens. Watching a couple stacks of barbarians walk around my borders to harass the AI civs in the early game is more than enough reward for building the early wonder. The early great spy doesn't hurt either.

^^The problem is that the game only gives you 20 turns of no events... And I doubt that you can build the GW in 20 turns.... I've seen people getting archer barb uprises in turn 37, where it was simply impossible to get enough defence for it

It happened again! I saw the horde of 5 horse archers coming from the Holy Roman Empire (they lost Vienna and Prague) and pop-rushed the last three turns of the Great Wall. The barbs wandered off north, but unfortunately did not visit Isabella. I usually don't build the wall but I had stone in my capital.

In my last Earth 18 Civ Scenario, the Aztecs were destroyed by 3000 BC, which caused America to become a super power, along with Russia and it's Cossacks.

Put raging barbarians on and it's unusual that all civs survive to "adulthood".

Yeah I've seen this happen a few times now. After it ends up I'll check the world builder and check out their city. Sure enough, I see some barbarian archers or axemen in their capitol.

It's also happened to me. I've had a few games where a horde of barbarian spearmen spawn at my borders while I have a lonely warrior sitting inside my capitol. Needless to say, I turn to world builder then too. :mischief:
