 I guess the picture speaks for itself. I'm running in windowed mode on a 256MB GeForce 7900 GS, Intel dual-core 3.2Ghz. I have the lastest drivers and DirectX. Same thing happens in full-screen mode. What's going on? :(
chaoscc Nov 15, 2007, 11:38 PM I've the same specs, and the same problem. Updating drivers actually brought me quite a period of grief, with some dreaded infinite loop on nv4disp.dll which was apparently well known.
I've looked around abit for a solution, and couldnt find any. Alt-tab actually solves it, though. It'll happen maybe 2,3 times, i'll alt-tab accordingly, and after that the graphics run smoothly. Also seemed to have happen post BTS, wanst like this in vanilla civ4. =/
If someone else has a good solution, much apprceciated!

Wow! What tech did you have to get to invent the digeridoo? ;)
niels251 Nov 16, 2007, 08:05 AM have you overclocked your video card? If yes try to set the speed to normal. I had these problems to with my previous (overclocked)videocard.
Saturos Nov 16, 2007, 09:29 AM Nope, no overclocking. I'm running a stock Dell.
spydrwomyn Nov 17, 2007, 11:57 AM having infinite loop problem & videos are running properly either. There are a few other mentions of this in connection with Nvidia in other threads.
using GeForce 6600
game was running great for a long time, then installed Civ 4 patch that came out in May & all H*LL broke lose.
followed great advice on this site re: direct X 9, and some other changes - got much better but still never returned to previous performance
upgraded to ForceWare release 162.15 end of June - seemed better at first, but then the infinite loop errors started about a month ago, after extended game play (about 8-12 hours - yes I'm obsessed)
upgraded a couple of weeks ago to 163.75 - infinite loop blue screen error now shuts whole computer down after less than 1 hour of game play
I've search Nvidia's website for known issues, etc. - no luck
It seems apparent that a driver roll back is the next step - the question is -which Nvidia release?
Draknith Nov 17, 2007, 12:49 PM You must be running the superman mod which gives your scouts laser beam eyes.
I'm surprised though. I'm running a much older system, and I find i have no problems unless I'm playing a Huge map with 18 civs.

No, it's obviously the Pinocchio mod, which gives them infinitely long noses

this situation is crazy. i have a piss-poor nvidia card that can't show the leaderheads (thankfully the only real problem, if i don't overload with gfx). it wasn't so long ago that nvidia was *the* card to have when playing civ, with ati having all the problems. has firaxis decided it's our turn for grief?
GreyHawke Nov 18, 2007, 12:37 PM I believe this is called "Smearing" a known video card problem. It happened to me with my 7950 GT also. I returned the card for a replacement and the problem was solved.

ROTFL! ROTFL!

I had that problem with the 6600 also. However, it started right with original Civ IV. Plus, I would get black specks all over the map after a while. Usually, after a fresh boot of the computer, everything work work fine.... for a while... then the specks and strings like what you have would show up again. Or, if I used alt-tab, when I came back to the game, there were the specks.
Sorry to say, I never did find any way to fix it. I was thankful the game worked properly other than the display problem... it was annoying but things still worked. I never had any infinite loops.
Eventually, due to other computer problems, I got a new computer, with a GeForce 8800. Now things work right AND display right.
Good luck! I hope you are able to find a fix, learn to live with it, or can update your video card and/or computer.
