View Full Version : My Internets not working
bob bobato Nov 19, 2007, 08:30 PM Obviously it is: but some sites dont work when they should. Some sites like:
Hotmail
MSN
Microsoft.com
and flash wont install.
Theres more sites, but no one will recognize them. Anyhoo, any suggestions on how to fix it? Ive all ready tried resetting Internet explore, by the way, and it did nothing.
armathas Nov 20, 2007, 02:42 AM Well as for why certain sites won't work..delete cookies. Second, get rid of IE, Firefox is waaay better, and safer.
kcwong Nov 20, 2007, 06:40 AM Which browser are you using, and what error message did you get (could you post a screenshot of it)?
GVBN Nov 20, 2007, 07:00 AM Are you using a firewall? Have you tried flushing the DNS cache?
bob bobato Nov 20, 2007, 07:18 AM Im using internet explorer. Ive tried turning off the firewall, but it didn't work (but maybe thats because I need to restart the pc, I dont know). And there is no error message. When I click on hotmail, for example, it starts to load, but never actually does -that bar in the corner moves, but very slowly, until it reaches the end after maybe ten minutes -and then it says 'done' even though obsolutely nothing has been 'done'. Also, windows update doesn't work. 'Error Code 80072ee2'. Ive tried firefox. No difference. Maybe thats because I imported info from IE, I dont know, but it still doesn't work.
kcwong Nov 20, 2007, 08:33 AM 0x80072EE2 means Windows Update cannot connect to Microsoft's Update server.
Are you using another computer in your house to post this? If so, this means your line is okay, and it's something with that particular computer.
Open Control Panel | Network Connections. Is there an exclamation mark on the connection you're using?
bob bobato Nov 20, 2007, 03:06 PM Im using the same computer that has the problem (not now, though, Im somewhere else): its not everything that isn`t working, just some sites. I dont think theres anything wrong with the connection, because everything else works perfectly. Except for Hotmail, msn.com, microsoft.com,(and blizzard.com, `my portal` on concordia.ca, banq.qc.ca, macromedia flash, and probably more I haven`t tried yet).
EDIT: Okay, theres virtually no problem anymore. Flash still doesn't work, but everything else is fine.
bob bobato Nov 24, 2007, 07:42 PM Ummm, this is a little awkward, but umm... my internet isn't working again, same problem. But this time I 'vaguelly' know why -it stopped working after I, being an idiot, decided to try and change my security settings ('internet options','security' tab,'custom level' button). So umm, if theres anyone out there who has nothing better to do and has windows Vista (or internet explorer 7, I guess), could you please tell me every one of your settings (In the whole path I mentioned), so I could copy them exactly?
kcwong Nov 24, 2007, 07:51 PM There should be a default settings button... which is a suitable setting for most. Set your Internet zone to default.
bob bobato Nov 24, 2007, 08:00 PM Ive tried that. Obsolutely no difference. Ive also tried Firefox: same problem (maybe because I decided to import all IE data to it. Ive been very stupid this week). But, the thing is, the problem has been fixed for the last few days (since I randomly fiddled with the IE security setings to fix the problem- my one un-idiotic-computer related problem this week). Then, this morning, I noticed that flash still wasnt working, so I tried changing the settings. So my internet stopped working again (ironically enough, right after I edited a post on this thread, saying that the problem was gone).
