Have you given any thought to which you can use from Fall from Heaven?

Darque
Nov 21, 2007, 07:31 AM
Yes, I constantly look at all sources for new units. But, sometimes I miss stuff. Are there any units in FFH2 that you feel will work well for one of these?

woodelf
Nov 21, 2007, 07:38 AM
Let me play more Shadow and I'll see if any of the obscure ones will work. Some of their units get used so little and it's a shame.

Darque
Nov 21, 2007, 08:19 AM
Sure...any excuse to play games, huh ;)

I have found that a lot of the older units in FFH2 are just reskins. Sez's new units look pretty good though.

Maybe someone like bernie14 would be a good recruit to rebone and modify FfH2 units.

Darque

winddelay is already working on the Pelorian Sun. I'll probobly have him continue to work on others later. But...if you could recreuit bernie14 to join the team to work on more of these units, that would be excellent.

Hi everybody,

let's see; I worked a bit on the corellon cleric and now it's time to chose his colour scheme.
So let me hear what you think off the main hues.
Also, let's discuss which part is gonna be the team colour.

Texture details will follow later. The finshed texture will be probably at 256 x256.

woodelf
Jan 29, 2008, 03:12 PM
Looks good.

I personally don't care for team color. Units have little flags so why worry about team color?

And if 512x512 works better for you then go for more detail. The overall size of the mod isn't too dependent on dds files.

How about Red cape, Purple Coat, Green bottom of coat plus those dots on the helmet and chest area, and that top left light brown team colour.

Darque
Jan 30, 2008, 11:24 AM
A common description of the Clerics of Corellon:Corellon clerics always wear a blue quarter moon talisman. Clerics tend to wear a silver, platinum, or mithral circlet about their heads. They often wear things of the color azure.
The cloak should be a blue color. If team color is used, it should be on the edges of the cloak, but I agree with woodelf that team color is not needed. Under the cloak, the cleric would be wearing either leather or chainmail armor.

OK.

I'm about half way through now, and will be completing the missionary tomorrow or Friday.

As for colours, I think the azure blue and the leather goes together nicely. The front is more or less finished with an absurd amount of detail for that size. I will provide comparison shots 512 vs 256, and I'm pretty sure that in 90% of most civ-typical angles, there won't be much difference.
Nontheless, I work in 512 (the forthcoming pictures are also 512x512) because working in a slightly better resolution gives you usually more options and is more convinient (That doesn't apply to pure pixelgraphix).

The ugly mug will be repainted(with a slightly less ugly). I often like to go for the head first, to have more "feeling" for the model's personality.

The shield will be a bit tricky, as I respec'd the UVs to allow for a horizontal Corellon Moon so ugly seams could be visible - you can easily see them on the WIP pics. It's going to be a wooden shield with a metal plate on which the god's moon is depicted.

Painting the cloak won't be easy, as the texture mirroring makes most draperies look stupid.

As to the sword, I got no idea. Maybe you guys can say something? Normal blade, golden sword, rainbow sabre? Perhaps nothing too fancy?

Cheers-
ayreos

P.S.
Thanks for the input, guys

If you want, for the shield, you can use this moon: http://diabolicstudios.net/images/TelSeldarine.png
for the religious symbol. I also suggest that the background behind the moon should blue as well.

That's looking great.

512x512 maps are fine if that's what you'd prefer to work with. I use them all the time, and it won't kill the game. Unfortunately, you'll notice you don't see a lot of your detail work in-game.

As to maps, the civ texture exporter can use the following; base, diffuse, dark, detail, decal, bump, glow, gloss, and reflection. Base and decal are just for team color instances though. Otherwise you just use diffuse. I've never used dark or detail, and I'm not actually sure what they do. If you can do bumpmaps the option's there, but I can't get my pea brain around those, so i'm no help in that department. Glossmaps work like specular maps... black being non reflective, white highly reflective. Glowmaps are black with the parts you want lit in the color you want them lit. And reflection is the image you want for the reflection on the glossy parts. I just use a center gradient circle, this guy here...
http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/122690/reflection.jpg
That's what most civ units with reflection use, and probably represents sunlight, but I'm sure there's other things you can use to get other effects.

If you plan to do gloss maps for the shield or sword though, you might want to texture that to it's own map, to make it easier.

Hi guys,

the elf is nearly finished, gonna go through some minor details and face overhaul tonight.

Quick preview:

The cloak did cost me some nerves, damn mirrored drapery is a sucker. When I finally had the idea with this belt-thingie, I probably pained and repainted it a dozen times...

P.S. the scene is unlighted, so it looks flat

Muchos gracias guys!!!

The face is redone, as is the collar.
I'm just gonna rebalance some colours, doing some filterwork and prepare for the final obj.save.

I'm leaving now, but in a few hours, I'm gonna be back and post the final pics.

Greetings,

I have some trouble converting the final psd to dds- so Ill downoad another converter and give it another shot tonight. Any recommendations?

The Arachne? Can do.
I'll set my deadline to sunday, again. (one week seems like a sensible schedule for me, right now)
She will be interesting to model and a bit more complex.

When I will come to the orcs, however, I must insist on ditching that awful double axe. A Big Axe or Mace or Flail, whatever. Might even do a concept.

P.S: Anyway, here are the repainted head, nearly forgot about posting them- sorry

If you want, feel free to email me your psd file and I can convert it to dds. I use the nvidia dds converter and never have issues with it.

Hi,

been busy with the dark elf chick, but, alas, I couldn't finish the texturing as I've got serious Maya glitches. Have been working on some workarounds (installing four year old drivers and telling the graphic card to behave like a Geforce Quadro) and I believe she will be finished tuesday.

If the next model will be a simple one, I should still maintain my next "till sunday" schedule. Any wishes here?

ayreos

p.s. concerning the double axe; it looks just too cheesy in my eyes, kinda like some Klingon weapons or the (relatively) new fantasy fad: equipping lady knights with armored high heels.

When can we get our hands on the Feywarden (Priest of Correllon) so we can finish it and add it to the mod? You can PM or email it to me or win.

As for the next model, just work your way down the list in whatever order pleases you.

Then just give him a large battle axe in each hand and we'll rig it to the berserker animation.

Oops, nearly forgot that! Mail is on it's way-sorry.

Twin Axes are fine with me.

Progress with the elven gal is slow. Hopefully tomorrow I've got some spare time.
As model is fairly complex and the reference is not very low poly friendly, this is the toughest one of the divine bunch. Please consider that.
At minimum, I need another six hours for finishing and creating the hair, hip region, weapon and shield textures.

So, let's say thursday.

If she's going to be a single unit per group then you can have more polys in your budget. :) People can always upgrade their system too. Don't be bashful.

Take another week to finish it if needed, I'm not in a rush. And as woodelf stated, she will be a single unit group, so a higher poly count can be used.

Evening guys,

thanks you for your kind words. My thanks go to winddelay and Darque for taking care of the rest.
I can't wait to see the Elf frolic around Dragonia (read: kill orcs).

The darkelven gal is 95% finished. I've had so much trouble with her, it will be such a relief to finish her tomorrow evening. The model uses lots of alphas, something I wanted to avoid with the first model (hence his blocky sword) cause Maya is a . .. .. .. .. . when it comes to rendering them. So work was sloooww.
She has a very powerful color scheme, I even had to make her shield rather bland to balance this and avoid a peacockish look.

Sleep well, Dragonia.

I'm a bad person....

I couldn't resist and tweaked some more of the elves' vertices and colour maps!

Mark my words:
the shining blade shall be finished next sunday!

I will send the .dds and .objs tomorrow, and here are the previews.

Feel free to comment, especially about
- Haircolour (I have some additional hues on a seperate layer, so this can be tweaked in a matter of seconds)
- hair shape (without extra alpha polys? From afar, her hair looks def. more wild and streaky)
-shoulder pads (the only part I dislike and couldn't find an suitable alternative)
-eyes (I like the white eyes, there're so few pixels you cannot really paint sparkling, colouful eyes-sorry)

See ya-

she is great, the texturing is brilliant (and i see what you mean by peacockish, but it works for her). my only critique is that shes a bit too skinny, but that might just be my personal preferences :p

Darque
Feb 19, 2008, 08:22 AM
Looks great, Alex. I do agree with Psychic Llamas that she is a little too skinny, mostly because in the ingame resolution, she might come out a little difficult to see. Also, I suggest a dark silverish color for her metal armor. That would definately remove the peacockish look and make the model flow better.

Here is an example of a great color scheme for a drow: http://francis001.deviantart.com/art/Drow-of-the-Underdark-55059692

I have an idea for the missing titles for Morndinsamman.
Leader -- Runekeeper
Paladin -- Paramander of Justice
Just two names from FFH.
Tell me what ya think.

Darque
Mar 25, 2008, 11:32 PM
Paramander would not work. A paramander is a priest that seeks to keep the universe in a perfect balance, sometimes battling good, other times evil. He seeks to maintain that balance, often by manipulating (and, when necessary, destroying) high-powered beings of deep alignment convictions (e.g., paladins and anti-paladins) or by aiding weak opponents of those beings.

I did some more reasearch into Morndinsamman and finally found it: the leaders in the religion are called High Forgesmiths. As for the paladin, I am already using the Hammers of Moradin.

Ya know, one thing I hate when playing FFH is that when evil civs change to certain religions, they immediately become good, which is annoying. I think it would be cool on D2 if it was set up so that ya have to wait like 100 turns or so til your alignment changes.
Also, still looking for Tel'Seldarine leader name.

Darque
Apr 01, 2008, 04:58 PM
I have it set up in Dragonia, that the alignment change is immediate...but an evil civ will just move towards neutrality if they have a good religion, and good civs will also move to neutrality if they have an evil religion. I may make some changes to the alignment system...but I wouldn't do that until after Beta 2.

rocklikeafool
Apr 01, 2008, 05:21 PM
