View Full Version : Erebus
zxcvbnm Nov 21, 2007, 09:55 AM Erebus is a forum RPG in the world of the Fall from Heaven II mod.
It has been nearly 50 years since the death of Mulcarn. Few people ever learned the details of his fall, but the change in the world was undeniable. Nations came out from the hovels and caves that they had been hiding in to again spread the dominion of man upon the earth as it slowly thawed.
The first generation born after the thaw has come into power, and the second has come of age. The Age of Ice is not even a memory to most of the population at this point. Old gods have been rediscovered, leading to new conflicts.
Such as the war just ended between the Lanun Confederation and the Bannor Empire. The Bannor declared war to purge their neighbor to the west of a new and frightening cult. Two small border cities were lost to the Bannor in the Adrian Fields area near Torrolerial, as well as Paradera, a bustling port town on the Isthmus of the Lost. Peace was soon sought by the Bannor, claiming their objective was accomplished, though the suddenness of the offer suggested some internal strife.
Meanwhile in the city of Paradera is still occupied by the Bannor and has been since just before the war ended a month ago. The Order Inquisitor and his entourage have arrived, and are beginning to investigate the remnants of the cult of the Octopus Overlords. Perhaps this was the only heresy… but a city the size of Paradera can hold many secrets.
The commandments:
1. I am the Game Engine your DM#2, Nikis-Knight is the DM#1, you shall have no other DMs before us.
2. You shall not mock the DMs.
3. You shall not try to be the DM. You might become another DM in other game or this game if we can't DM it all the time, but to keep your chances high you shall not annoy us.
4. You shall not question the DMs's decisions unless the DMs's posts are contradictory and their logic is failing. We have all rights to overrule any of your actions or change it's happening time if it suits us.
5. You shall post a copy of your PM's about this game to both of us
6. You shall not roleplay badly. Good roleplaying will be rewarded and we are not responsible if you are struck by lightning if you roleplay badly.
7. You shall not complain about my bad enilshg if such exists
8. You shall not covet your fellow player's possessions, or you may, but you may not kill him or her to get them, or you may but only if it's roleplayingly logical. But you may not make your fellow player's life too difficult.
9. In PbF RPGs where you keep your own stats/inventory list you shall not change them anyway unless the DMs approve.
10. You shall not object to these rules unless the objection is sensible and fair. Even then you shall not object to the rules 1-3.
Nikis-Knight is the DM #1 who runs the story
I am the DM #2, meaning the one who does all boring stuff like rolls dice if needed

zxcvbnm Nov 21, 2007, 09:56 AM The game follows D&D-like rules if they are needed, but the main focus is storytelling.
Magic is unrestricted, any player might try any kind of spell and their skills, mana and magic spheres they know affect the results. This might be why 6 of 7 players chose magic-using classes.
Stats are defined by words instead of numbers, varying from very low to very high

Description: Tsanal is a tall Amurite, with shoulder-lenght dark brown hair and green eyes.
He's very curious about most things, and thinks that all knowledge is good, no matter if it's about healing, the past, or raising the dead.
Background: Tsanal has always been frail and clumsy, so as an Amurite, becoming a wizard was a natural choice. Fascinated by the more complex arts such as Death and the Mind, he journeyed to Paradera to find others of his kind who could teach him. Some time after arriving, he decided that there weren't much to learn there, so he found some adventurers he could join, and that way learn more about the arcane arts.

Mipe's parents were different from most of families. His father was a priest of Octopus Overlords and everyone told him all secrets. Then he telled them to Mipe's mother, a thief. Mipe's family got lots of money, but he didnt want that. He only wanted to be a priest like his father.
At age of 6, Mipe's parents started to teach everything about their careers, and he soon became able to steal (well, actually talk them to give stuff) from neighbours and then sacrificed them to Esus. That went on for 7 years, then his father found out that mipe wasn't sacrificing all those things for the Overlords and he went and and took mipe to city of Paradera (his family lived several miles away from the town) and left him there.

Mryddin is tall for his race, with jet black hair and eyes the colour of new leaves in the sunlight. His manner is confusing, initially comming across as detatched and solemn, but when he warms to someone his demeanor becomes vibrant and almost jovial, and his good nature seems to rub off on those around him.
Mryddin is not an old elf, being born just days before the death of Mulcarn and the end of the age of ice. he does not remember much of those days, but he does have a severe distaste for cold and winter, knowing that such a side of nature wrought havoc over Erebus, and resulted in the death of his older sister Ganell, and his father, who died from frostbite after his home and the remnant forest that it was nestled in was demolished in a fierce ice storm. Miraculously he and his mother survived, and from that dayforward, his mother vowed to put a stop this endless winter. She turned all her efforts to following the ways of Cernunnos and prayed that life and nature would be brought back to Erebus before her son had to witness the horrors of it. Since that day, Mryddin has been brought up in a house totally devoted to Cernunnos, and his goal in this life is to drag the world from the clutchs of Mulcarn and his followers. He thus has a sever dislike of anyone who is involved with such madness.

Munak was born in a simple farming village, in what would later become Kuriotate territory. Her father was the local priest, as much as you could call that someone in a small village. The object of worship in those parts was the Dragon, a mythical beast from ages past about which many fantastical tales existed, and which was believed to give strength and protect to those who paid respects to it. In these early days of the Age of Rebirth it wasn't an organized religion at all though, but still in the stage of folkbeliefs, and thus didn't have some strict doctrine or detailed rituals.
Her father wanted his only daughter Munak to follow into his footsteps and become the next priest, believing this would be the best guarantee for a safe future for her. Instead of paying strong attention to her father's lessons, Munak has always been more interested though in playing with the neighbour's kittens and other animals, leaving some gaps in her knowledge about her father's religion. She assumes this is why many of the prayers she directs at the Dragon God don't seem to have any effect. Her sometimes lacking knowledge about Dragon folklore doesn't mean she doesn't like dragons though - surely they must be the most friendly animals in existence!
Desperated at the fact that Munak didn't seem ready yet to become a true priest despite soon becoming 21, her father has suggested her to go visit her uncle at the city of Paradera, where her uncle went to seek his fortune, and found it. This uncle also believes in the Dragon lore, and has many friends there in the city who also do, thus her father thought this may be the ideal place to finish her education away from the distractions of the countryside's animals. This was not counting on the Bannor however, who just happened to decide to invade Paramera while Munak was there. Now she's stuck in the city.
Munak has a pet pig named Gung Fu which accompanies her everywhere, and who she believes is her lucky charm. Reason for the pig is because she was born in the Year of the Pig herself (the area where she came from assigned animal names to years). Also pigs are pink, which happens to be Munak's favourite colour, and fortunately a colour dragon cultists like to dress in.

Introduced as Nindoro though many call him Bane. Nindoro arrived in Paradera from Bannor lands with the occupation of Paradera. Making the most of the hustle and bustle of a port town, Nindoro has been able to remain discreet as he fleeces the sheep of the town. Sometimes a crazed look in his eyes reveals his troubled past and the many personal demons he is fleeing.
zxcvbnm Nov 21, 2007, 10:03 AM Outsiders please don't post here
Nikis-Knight Nov 21, 2007, 10:40 PM [tab]Paradera is a large city shorn in two by the canal leading to the Sea of Stars, so named when Bhall fell amidst a hail of comets. This canal links the Amurite aristocracy and the Bannor Empire with the wider world via the Aegean Sea, so the city’s strategic importance is obvious. The area of the town to the west of the canal contains the man harbor, industry, and slums. The east has the noble houses and civic buildings, and the Inn in which many outsiders are staying.
[tab]The Inn door opens shortly after supper is served, interrupting the ballad of a bard. A tall pale elf walks in first, without a word, but gives the Innkeeper a nod as a second man enters, a heavyset human. He wears fine clothes and is well-groomed. He addresses those in the common room.
[tab]“Greetings. I have a task for which I need some urgent assistance. I own a shipping company based in this city, and I have reason to believe that a rival has targeted my ship, the Long Vision, for sabotage. This would ruin me, but the Bannor are unwilling to help a local and the Lanun guardsmen have either fled south or joined the resistance against the Bannor, so I must go around the law for this. For this work I would pay upfront fifty coins a head, sails or swords, and another fifty when I am able to launch my vessel. I expect I will be able to bring the vessel in to port tomorrow, and it must remain there until inspections are complete and provisions are loaded, perhaps a week’s time. The Innkeeper here, Mr. Nan, can give you my address, and I expect some hard-working, gallant souls to show up at my home shortly afternoon tomorrow.” He looks around the room, noticing a couple patrons are reading texts written in ancient Patrian. “I would add that I have some connections in town, and a good word from me would go far with the local mage guild. Anyway, I know that this town’s troubles have been hard especially on travelers, and this would be and excellent way to get all our finances back together. Good evening.”
[tab]No sooner does the merchant leave than the Curfew Horn is heard. This recent addition to Paradera is a tactic of the occupying Bannor army to end the resistance of the town.
[tab]Most of those seated around the common room obviously have no intention of taking the man up on his offer. Those with wits and brains a dangerous task would require are otherwise employed, except for a handful of travelers who make their way over to the Innkeeper. Nan answers that he knows the merchant as Corvanes, and gives his address, a home up the road to the East, near the Wall Market.
[tab]In the meantime, the few brave travelers turn to each other, their potential allies for the coming week.
[Now would be the time to introduce yourselves. Be aware that what you’ve posted in the character sheets isn’t necessarily known—and some points may not win you friends, so you should have a cover story.]
mipe Nov 21, 2007, 11:24 PM man in black cape in corner starts to talk to himself.
"ohh... 100 gold pieces for guarding 1 ship for week... I hope there is someone else than me who is interested to help me.."
Maniac Nov 22, 2007, 06:02 AM "Hmm, no harm in trying... I could use the money."
Btw, are ships allowed to leave the city??
zxcvbnm Nov 22, 2007, 06:13 AM You all have a vision
It is a vague shade, which speaks to you:
"You'd better go and fetch your stuff from your rooms before you go anywhere."
You don't have much left. What you didn't eat or wear you sold to get money to pay your living as leaving the city has been impossible for weeks and the army takes a lot of food. Black market has been the only way to get anything more than the staple diet, and prices have been sky-high.
The army has declared a quarantine for one reason or another but as the inquisition has arrived you suspect it's to prevent some religious heresies from escaping the town. You have heard about some cult worshipping powers under the Aegean sea. You assume you are safe as long as the cult exists in Paradera, as Bannor soldiers will be hunting them, but when the cult is purged, it's another issue. An Order demagogue staying in the same inn might make your life very difficult, as the Bannor empire doesn't exactly have a history of tolerance towards eccentrics.
mipe Nov 22, 2007, 06:43 AM "huh, there's only 2 of us who wants to get 100 gold for easy money... normally it would be good because the money is shared but that elf guy said he gives 100 to each one... *looks confused* there is something wrong with that... but easy money is easy money!" Mipe gets up from the chair and heads upstairs to his room...
// OFF-TOPIC: someone said that DMs choose what stuff everyone gets, is that right or can we choose weapons/armors on our own? (just as long as they arent any uber weps/armors.) also, I can usually get 1-2 messages in morning, and I then have to go school, after school I can usually visit forums once in ½hour.
Psychic_Llamas Nov 22, 2007, 06:48 AM *a tall elf in the corner jumps to his feet, shocked by the presence of the shade, he then dashes for the stairs and heads to his room to gather his things, and with a quick glance to the first three who spoke he leaves*
zxcvbnm Nov 22, 2007, 06:55 AM Your rooms are relatively simple: a bed, and a closet to hold your possessions. Everything valuable has been sold earlier, except a couple of items with personal importance. Possessing weapons is illegal unless they are in the army's storehouses. You might get them back when you leave the town but because of the risk of resistance you aren't allowed to carry them around.
[game-wise: you all have your clothes, which are default and aren't shown. You have one personal item you may choose freely, but it's value can't be higher than one would except with your backstory. Please tell what item it is. The rest will depend on your class. Your inventory will show these items as stored]
Kjaaly Nov 22, 2007, 07:31 AM The tall amurite with the long hair, sitting at one of the tables, suddenly looks up and says: "I'm going. Gold is always useful, and a good reputation with the mage guild is even better."
He goes to his room and fetches his things. He then goes back and says: "So, when are we leaving?"
OOC: [I have a small, worthless brass ring with a minor "Repell Undead" spell (Which ironically only works on the wearer) enchanted on it. The story behind this involves experimenting with putting it on a dead rat, and reviving it as undead... By the way, I also updated my characters stats before we started. He now has dimensional too, but his constitution is below average.]
mipe Nov 22, 2007, 07:32 AM Mipe locks tightly the door to his room and checks every place that no one can see him and then goes to closet and takes his small dagger (which he said was just a normal kitchen knife when guards founded it) and then Mipe puts the dagger carefully inside his cape that no one can see it. Mipe then takes the key to the room, leaves from the room and goes to Innkeeper named Mr. Nan and starts to talk.
"Thank you for letting me stay this night here mr. Nan, the bed was really comfortable from where I usually sleep. Could you give me the address for that elf that came here earlier?"
*looks back to the elf who glanced at him*
Psychic_Llamas Nov 22, 2007, 08:13 AM Mryddyn arriving at his room strides immediately over to the small closet, he begines packing his clothes and other mundane items in his rucksack but he suddenly stops and stares at a pair of ornate leather gloves... he then decides to slip them over his hands and continues packing...
he then takes his room key, and leaves and goes down back to the common room.
he walks over to the innkeeper and says:
"Thank you for your hospitality Mr. Nan."
turning to the others he says:
"well it looks like we'd better go see what the gentleman requires assistance with...it looks like we'll be together for a while, so, my name is Mryddyn."
My Trinket:
My personal item is my pair of ornate leather gloves. They were crafted by my father, as he was an expert tanner and he dabbled in nature magic. these gloves are unique and allow the wearer to shape wood to what ever shape or size they desire. One could persuade a heavey wooden oak door to rip off its hinges and burst into lively growth, he could persuade the floorboards of a wooden cottage to sprout shoots and vines to entangle opponents, and he can shape a wooden stick into a sharp sword or heavey staff.
however, the gloves drain the life energy of the wearer and transfer it into the wood being shaped, and so the size and complexity of the work is limited by the ammount of energy that can be channeled into the wood. The wearer can 'borrow' energy from others present, but only if they concentrate on lending their energy (ie of their own free will, cannot 'steal' life).
mipe Nov 22, 2007, 08:47 AM "My name is Mipe. That's all I will tell you. But I need to ask one thing:
Is any of you skilled fighter? Because if thats elf's rivals try to sabotage the ship, they probably won't leave without a fight.. heheh, that elf doesn't have much money soon, if I have counted correctly, he would give us 400 golds"
OOC: Is it so that one day in RL, one day in this game?
Kjaaly Nov 22, 2007, 08:55 AM "Fighter!? Not me! I don't specialize in such primitive arts. My speciality lies in the subtle powers of Magic. Anyway, the name is Tsanal."
OOC: [Perhaps we should wait for the others to post?]
thomas.berubeg Nov 22, 2007, 09:09 AM A hundred gold, eh? last time i saw that much was... i don't think i can remember it! it's worth it! so! who's coming with us?
my trinket: a piece of eternal ice from the Mare Frigum, which can control to a moderate degree the ambient temperature of the room.
Maniac Nov 22, 2007, 10:43 AM '"Wow, wait for me!"
/me runs quickly to my room and takes a little locked chest with me. And of course I make sure Gung Fu is following me.
Back with the others, I smile and explain "Hey I can't leave without my box full of beauty secrets. ;) So... I am ready to leave. I do hope you men are somewhat stronger than you look though."
(If a pet pig would also count as an extra personal item, I could scrap me having a pet, and buy myself a piglet later)
mipe Nov 22, 2007, 11:22 AM " yeah I'm probably stronger than I look.. I hope atleast SOME of you know how to use swords... Don't say that we all are some kind of spellcasters..." Mipe says.
OOC: I see that almost everyone has some sort of magic item but I have normal dagger... Can I then have magic dagger? :) not any uber powerful but maybe something like easier to do critical hits or something else sneaky:cooool: ...?
Maniac Nov 22, 2007, 11:27 AM I hope atleast SOME of you know how to use swords...
I can stab in people's eyes with chopsticks or hairpins. Does that count? :)
zxcvbnm Nov 22, 2007, 11:32 AM [one day in game time is what GMs decide. The beginning and adventures might take longer but you don't want to travel for weeks real time do you?]
[A pig is a familiar, even if it's a lucky charm]
[You don't need to wait for others as long as you stay where you are and don't affect the environment. Such free actions are talking, picking and dropping things etc that don't manipulate the surroundings]
[wounds in eyes can be really nasty]
Mipe notices that his dagger has become somehow different, somehow sneaky by an unknown power
Kjaaly Nov 22, 2007, 11:40 AM "I'm not stronger than I look, but I'm certainly more intelligent. And talking about strength vs. looks, I may have a few spells which may make us stronger than we look. Mostly because they make people think we look weak, but hey, I'm still searching for knowledge, so my spellcasting may need a bit work.
With time, I should be able to contribute far more."
Tsanal looks in his bag, appearing to be searching for something.
"I could have sworn I had a map in here... Too much mind magic for me, I think... When we're done with the ship, can any of you lend me a hand with finding the mage guild? I haven't been here for long, and I'd like to gain some insight on the local sorcery."
zxcvbnm Nov 22, 2007, 11:57 AM There are some sounds coming from the door
"...and make sure they don't get away. The Order won't be pleased if you fail again."
The door opens and the demagog staying in the inn enters. He looks confused at first, seemingly hoping that nobody heard what he and his companion spoke outside. He calms down a bit when you don't appear to have witnessed anything.
He has been staying there for weeks, having come just after the occupation, but rarely seen in the common room.
Psychic_Llamas Nov 22, 2007, 06:21 PM Mryddyn who was just a bout to speak, waits for the demagog (whats that???) to pass before continuing in a solemn whisper.
"I am a skilled archer and can hit a kidney bean from 100 yards, but with a sword, im effectively useless. I plan on not getting close enough to have to use one.
we will need to be a little more careful of what we say, if an officer from the Order hears us talking about weapons we may find ourselves arrested before we get going...
*his mood suddenly picks up as he says:*
Tsanal, i would also like to go to the mage guild, so i can accompany you if you like. I have wanted to see the Divine department since i came here and have never found the chance.
kenken244 Nov 22, 2007, 06:45 PM "Hmm... 100 gold. I could use the money. I do prefer spells to swords and heading to a mage guild sounds interesting"
My trinket: an expensive looking amulet that makes me look much more important and has a slightamount of enchantment that makes it faintly glow. It may make me a target for theives though
Nikis-Knight Nov 22, 2007, 08:27 PM [tab]Those who found the offer to their liking all made sure to note the address before retiring for the night, and packed everything of value before setting off the next day shortly after the noon meal. Some had the money for a meal of substance, but many were finding the prospect of full pockets quite enticing as they took the basic fare Nan gave them.
[tab]Nindoro was the first to the home, a sturdy multistory manor in the noble section of the city, by the northern cliffs. Out of habit he made a study of the surroundings, a park with the city obelisk behind the home, a market along the city wall to the east, and one row of homes between him and the shore to the north. He paused before, knocking, then decided to wait and see who else approached before announcing himself.
[tab]Tsanal and Ken were the next to arrive, engaged in a heated debate on the merits of various mana spheres. Ken was an advocate of the more obvious and destructive uses—after all, Kylorin’s own wife controlled the flames. Tsanal was hesitant to argue with Ken, but pointed out that changing a rulers mind cut out the need to immolate his army.
Ken’s retort was drown out in a clump-clump of hooves on cobblestone, and a high pitched squeal—a small pig was running down the block, followed by a young woman in pink robes.
[tab]“Gung-Fu!” Munak shouts, earning glares of a passing merchant. Noticing two adepts who had also been staying at the Ferryside Inn with her, she paused and bowed slightly. “I’m sorry, sirs, she is usually better behaved.” The pig was still running, but paused before a robed elf coming from the market. He placed a hand on the pig’s head, calming her enough to be picked up and returned to the owners.
[tab]Mryddyn’s solemn face bore a quick smile, and he told the girl, “It’s alright, young Munak, I have noticed many animals spooked today.”
[tab] “As have I,” said Thomas, “But that is an experience I’m familiar with. Are you each here for the job? There will be safety in numbers, then.” He was dressed in trappings common to traveling merchants, but under the tunic a necklace gave him a comforting coolness even in the warm weather.
[tab] The five of them opened the gate, and knocked on the door to the manor. “You are coming too, aren’t you?” Nindoro started, unused to being found when hiding, but Mipe had walked straight up to him, piercing the shadows with a practiced gaze. “You do not want for coins, I know, but perhaps it would be good to earn some today?” Nindoro stared back, revealing nothing, but the nodded, and they followed the others into the manor when the door was opened by Corvanes servant, the same pale elf from the night before. The seven of you are shown to the parlor, where you are soon greeted by your employer.
[tab] “Welcome!” their host greeted them. He shook their hands one by one, leaving a small pouch in each. “I took the liberty of cashing your payment in Swords—the currency of the Bannor looks to be more reliable here in the near future than the Lanun Sails.” (If you take out the money you see the flaming sword stamped on each one.) “There is little more to tell you about you mission, save the location of the dock in which to find my vessel. I wanted to avoid advertising exactly where in public, a pointless caution, hopefully.” A map of the city hangs on the wall. “Across the canal and to the south is the commercial harbor. After the second pier the [I]Long Vision is docked. There is a warehouse nearby that is abandoned, it should provide a suitable hiding place from the Bannor should you see a patrol approaching. Again, I hate to involve strangers in something that is, strictly speaking, against the law, but I am in a bind, and you should not be in too great trouble for simply breaking curfew.
[tab] “I expect no trouble before sundown, my rivals are not so brazen. But be there each night until my inspection next week, if you want your payment. If you want for weapons, I can provide you with staves that should be acceptable even under martial law—or at least appear so.” He takes one from a rack, showing how to unsheathe the blade hidden inside. “Less effective than a sword, but discrete.”
“If you have any questions, I can help you… other wise you are free to attend to your business until dusk.”
kenken244 Nov 22, 2007, 09:23 PM "Considering that we are in a bannor city i think we should try to avoid useing and death or entropy spells. We may also want to be cautious with fire magic to avoid destroying the boat."
Maniac Nov 22, 2007, 10:55 PM I kinda like watching fire magic though. :(
Perhaps we should go all to the market hereafter with our newfound money and buy provisions and some other equipment that may help us filfull our task this week?
mipe Nov 22, 2007, 11:36 PM Mipe talks to pale elf;
"I would like to have stave, almost everyone here is a magic casters but they aren't probably prepared if their magic doesnt work..." *mipe takes the stave and then walks little away from elf* He then goes to others and is careful that no one else hears him:
"you probably shouldn't probably buy the food for all week already because I may get them easier from the ship or the warehouse.."
"But what are your all names? I only know Mryddyn and Tsanal... And my name is Mipe"
ooc:  nice job with me nikis-knight! I would have done exactly like that..
Maniac Nov 22, 2007, 11:45 PM My name is Munak.
And this is Gung Fu. Say hello to everybody Gung Fu!
*GROINK* http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a183/TehManiac/SAVAGE_BABE.gif
Bad Player Nov 22, 2007, 11:48 PM Bad Player:
Name: Nindoro
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Profession: Rogue
Deity: Agnostic
Alignment: Neutral-Evil
Strength: Low
Agility: Very high
Constitution: Average
Intelligence: High
Wisdom: Average
Charisma: High
Mana: High
-Charm person/ladeez-*please explain what it does*
*stats too high, please lower by 7 steps*
Inventory:
Introduced as Nindoro though many call him Bane. Nindoro arrived in Paradera from Bannor lands with the occupation of Paradera. Making the most of the hustle and bustle of a port town, Nindoro has been able to remain discreet as he fleeces the sheep of the town. Sometimes a crazed look in his eyes reveals his troubled past and the many personal demons he is fleeing.
-Charm person/ladies- is like this :deal: and this :groucho: !
OK I make constitution low (from av) and wisdom low instead of av, and mana average instead of high. Do I need more off? EDIT: Have I taken too much off?
mipe Nov 22, 2007, 11:54 PM "Hello Munak! and *GROINK* to you too Gung Fu... that name sounds so stealthy..."
ooc:bad player nice choosing special ability:groucho: and you need to take something one step down
Bad Player Nov 23, 2007, 12:23 AM OK take intelligence down one notch from high to above average please. EDIT: It's unlikely I will be able to post again until Sunday Australian time or maybe Monday arvo Australian time. Sorry.
Thanks mipe. BTW I hear there is a female to party with in our party. :groucho:
Maniac Nov 23, 2007, 12:31 AM *Gung Fu, attracted by Nindoro's irresistable charm, moves to him and starts licking his shoes.
Bad Player Nov 23, 2007, 12:47 AM Hey, I'll take what I can get! Time to start makin' bacon! :groucho:
zxcvbnm Nov 23, 2007, 12:51 AM Demagogs are servants of the Order, but not of the priestly path. They are agitators who help to increase support to the army and lift people's spirits during war-time, but they are sometimes used to change the popular opinion against certain people or religion. The nasty side-effect of this is the occassional lynching mob, however, those are strictly forbidden by the Order and Demagogs abusing their power find their careers cut short.
You all take your staves as having some self-defense won't hurt.
Bad Player Nov 23, 2007, 01:27 AM I don't have much but I do have a few coins I aquired from some widow after she left an Order church and I managed to sell some orphan's dog to a butcher for a few more coins. Oh and I stole a bunch of keys from a city guard...
Psychic_Llamas Nov 23, 2007, 01:48 AM *Mryddyn takes the stave off of the pale elf and examines it*
"this is a well balanced stave. i think i shall get some practice using it before we go to the docks. i have not used one of these for a long tiem, but im sure ill remember fast enough. *he throws a grin at his new companions* care to join me?"
EDIT:
heres a picture of Mryddyn:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/71834/Mryddyn.jpg
ive got the same modle at home, but mines painted differently (this is better:p)
mipe Nov 23, 2007, 06:54 AM "Nah, I go to that warehouse to see if there's anything to ste-- I mean, to look if any stuff that doesn't belong to anyone..." I hope no one attacks me on way to the warehouse.. but I have my sneaky dagger so I probably will be fine, mipe thinks
*Mipe starts to move towards long vision and that warehouse*
ooc: How does fighting work? Is it that simple that we tell what we want to do and DM rolls the dices and tells how much dmg we have done? what about stealing, or as I like to call it "changing the owner of item:rolleyes: "?
also, Bad Player, you have a nice girlfriend :groucho:
zxcvbnm Nov 23, 2007, 07:05 AM [There is no hitpoint system in this game, which is one of its major differences to D&D. Instead the damage will be defined by words such as wounded, injured, poisoned etc.]
[Agility, defense skill and shields increases the chance of dodging/blocking enemy hits.]
[Agility and weapon skills increase the chance of hitting the enemy.]
[Strength, weapon and weapon skills increase the chance of scoring more dangerous hits.]
[Hardiness and armour decrease the chance of getting hurt.]
[Different spells might affect any of these.]
[When you want to fight, you tell how and what you want to fight. Then the game engine (me) rolls the dice and checks the results.]
would want to steal (sure you won't, you are law-abiding...) they should tell what they want to steal and from whom.]
[The results are similarly counted as with battle.]
[Agility increases the chance of successful pickpocketing, but you can steal and break the law also in other ways.]
[With magic, you tell what you want and I check the results based on your mana, spell spheres or deity etc.]
[Of skills: you don't have them yet but as you train you might get some indicator of your abilities. It's only combat- and magic-related ones and specials as I assume everyone knows the basic things like wearing a shirt without any specific skill. Also the list keeps simpler]
[*Simply: you tell what you want to do, I tell the results.*]
Kjaaly Nov 23, 2007, 07:47 AM Tsanal smiles at Nindoro and Gung Fu, and says: "How cute... I think I'm going to the market to look for some cheap reagents. Wanna come Ken? I'm interested in hearing more about the theory of force magic."
OOC: [1: My character isn't "hesitant to argue". He LOVES arguing . 2: Stop making bacon out of Gung! 3: How strong is the magic I start with?]
zxcvbnm Nov 23, 2007, 07:48 AM [You can't know the strength of your magic if you have never tried it. (It's something around FfH lvl 1 spells.)]
[if you make bacon from Gung Fu, the Dragons will avenge it]
Maniac Nov 23, 2007, 07:51 AM I'll follow Ken and Kjaaly to the market. Not to buy reagents though.
zxcvbnm Nov 23, 2007, 07:53 AM [Please use PC names when referring to them]
Maniac Nov 23, 2007, 11:04 AM Sorry. I don't know them by heart yet. And I didn't feel like checking the first post.
I'd like to inform btw on the prices for
chopsticks (I was born on a plot with a Rice Bonus :mischief: )
12 hairpins
a leather backpack
flasks of oil
Tinder Box, with flint & steel
incense sticks
and check if there are war fans/tessen for sale somewhere in this city, hoping that the Bannor would not recognize its use as a weapon.
"Tessen (鉄扇) were folding fans with outer spokes made of iron which were designed to look like normal, harmless folding fans or solid clubs shaped to look like a closed fan. Samurai could take these to places where swords or other overt weapons were not allowed, and some swordsmanship schools included training in the use of the tessen as a weapon. The tessen was also used for fending off arrows and darts, as a throwing weapon, and as an aid in swimming, like hand-flippers."
mipe Nov 23, 2007, 11:25 AM Mipe got to the warehouse but to his unfortunate, there was nothing valuable left to take...
"hmmh... If work starts in few hours, I would need some sleep, but if there comes some thiefs, they will rob me blind if I sleep... A HA! now I know how to do it.. if I put this thing here.. and this thing there..." and soon, Mipe made really simple alarm clock. Rope across the door, and when someone steps in, the cans start to make noise and Mipe would wake up.
"*yawn* now that the alarm is made, I can just sleep here for some time... zZzZz.... zZzZz..."
ooc: I hope that magics dont cost any reagents/other indengriends (cant spell it... :( )
If someone would want to steal (sure you won't, you are law-abiding...)
yeah... just ignore these parts from my background and everythings fine..
...Mipe's mother, a thief... At age of 6, Mipe's parents started to teach everything about their careers...
Nikis-Knight Nov 23, 2007, 11:26 AM My character isn't "hesitant to argue". He LOVES arguing Very well, I wrote that because Ken is more charismatic but still not easy to get along with, so probably forceful and intimidating in an arguement.
Remember with imagination you can make weak spells quite useful--if you can't force someone to leave with your mind magic, animating the skeleton of a dead rat could frigthen them away, for example.
[tab]The market contains many stalls from a variety of merchants. It is near the nothern wall fort and the up the road from the governors manor, so the people are generally well behaved, but of late the guards have more important things to do, so there are none to actually be seen around. Most of the foreign luxories are out of stock. There is a couple of stalls catering to the needs of the Bannor soldiers, selling some of the religous iconography of the Order--though the merchants don't look religious, and it is likely yesterday they were selling a wider variety of pagan wares. Incense is here, a small sample can be bought cheaply, since the vendors usually deeal in quantities needed to temple rituals.
[tab]There are grocers as well, though you are spared the stench of the fish market, which is larger and housed by the slums. You can find cured meats, though they are more expensive than seafood is in town, and travel bread.
[tab]Of note, perhaps, are a couple of magical vendors, one run by an old Amurite woman and another by a Svartalfar elf in unusually garish clothes. Nothing radiates great power, of course, and the two merchants tell anyone who will listen of the inferiority of the other's goods. It's possible both are right, though you should be able to meet your basic needs.
[tab]Munak finds the traveling supplies she's looking for for a couple of coins, though no one has heard of the war fan. A dwarven smith listens to her description, though, and promises he could make the frame by tomorrow in his shop; she would need to procur the paper, however.
zxcvbnm Nov 23, 2007, 12:00 PM [don't know how it is in D&D but in Erebus magic costs only your magic power, which will regenerate over time. Having cast spells will reduce the chance of success for following ones because of the slight exhaustion.]
[reagents are needed mainly for alchemy but they have their other uses]
The demagog who has been spending the last weeks in the same inn as you suddenly runs to you.
"At last, I've been having an eye on you lot for weeks and finally I understand what you really are!"
You are shocked at first
"You are mighty wizards sent by Junil to help me in my almost impossible task!"
You don't get any time to answer to that as he just keeps going:
"Look, I need your help. We are hunting down a dangerous cult and you could help in that. If you assist us I can reward you somehow. My pay is lousy and the food is as bad in the army as everywhere else, but being favored by the Order won't hurt here."
"Just report any illegal activity, religious heresies and resistance to me, and bind their minds with your spells so they will confess everything."
[and try that magic, it shouldn't hurt]
Kjaaly Nov 23, 2007, 12:34 PM After the Demagog has left, Tsanal whispers to the others:
"I don't really know if we should help this guy. I mean, how can we be sure we're helping the right persons? Helping defend a ship doesn't give any negative consequenses, but reporting someone for something we don't have any part in?
Why should the "heretics" be more evil than the Bannor?"
After talking a bit more, he goes to buy some small trinkets he could enchant if needed, and some paper and ink, so he can keep notes.
[Nikis-Knight: Never mind then, I had just misunderstood you. Sorry :) .]
kenken244 Nov 23, 2007, 01:27 PM "and besides guarding that ship dosn't make us law-abiding either"
OOC:zxcvbnm, can you please add my personal item to the first page? its supposted to be a charisima enhancing amulet:
My trinket: an expensive looking amulet that makes me look much more important (and thus able to convince people more easily) and has a slight amount of enchantment that makes it faintly glow. It may make me a target for theives though
thomas.berubeg Nov 23, 2007, 03:54 PM I don't see why we shouldn't help him... like you said, the heretics can't be more evil than the Bannor, so, the way i see it, if we help him, were just making the world a better place. and he might reward us. 100 gold is quite alot, but not enough...
thomas.berubeg Nov 23, 2007, 03:55 PM (ooc: just out of curiosity, what kind of spells can i cast?)
Psychic_Llamas Nov 23, 2007, 04:33 PM [how will we keep track of time? is it night now or day?]
Mryddyn practiced for hours using the staff, but he quickly remembered some of the more exotic moves with the weapon. looking at it he feels it required some extra something... he concentrated on the staff and suddenly it strated shifting and changing twirling and twisting. at the top short branches grew out and weaved around each other. looking at his work he smiles briefly.
He decided to then follow the others exaple and headded off to the markets.
Here he is looking for a herbalist so he can buy an assortment of plant seeds, (promarily Ivy, Briar and reagents, and several healing slavs and herbs.) a carpenter so he can buy some lenths of wood, he especially wants a couple of long shafts of Yew (to make a bow and arrows out of with his gloves) he is aslo looking for some good strong string (usually made from specially worked animal intestines, normally rabbit or deer) and goose feathers (for the arrows feathers), so he goes to the general store.
having been away when the man from the inn ran through, he is unaware of the potential for the new mission [can you try make sure that were all together when something happens, so all out characters sty informed?]
Nikis-Knight Nov 23, 2007, 06:08 PM If you didn't explicitly say you weren't going with the others, you can assume you were there; we'll take people's time zones into consideration.
It isn't yet night; Since BP said he won't be around Saturday, we'll wait until late on Saturday before anything critical happens.
Psychic_Llamas Nov 23, 2007, 11:19 PM (Ok then thats fine :p)
mipe Nov 24, 2007, 12:03 AM ooc: this time ooc first then the post :) btw, you others should sleep sometimes... zxcvbnm, can it be so that I heard the demagog too?
Mipe wakes up and after listening that demagog talk, he just thinks "maybe I can get some easy money..."
Mipe goes to nearby dark alley and tries to turn invisible, He doesn't know why but invisible spell works better on dark places.. But being in dark alley he doesn't see himself and doesn't know if he is invisible... He then comes out of the dark alley and he sees that the spell.... (Roll The Dice)
zxcvbnm Nov 24, 2007, 02:48 AM Mipe succeeds in making himself invisible. The spell might last at least for some minutes.
Everyone was present when the group met the demagog. They split after that.
[You can try any spells that are logical with your mana spheres. More powerful ones that are too difficult might have unexcepted results. Disciples can use prayers and rituals in the same way. They try to channel their deity's powers to do something. The deities are limited to about what is listed in the creation thread]
Maniac Nov 24, 2007, 03:00 AM [spoiler]Munak finds the traveling supplies she's looking for for a couple of coins, though no one has heard of the war fan. A dwarven smith listens to her description, though, and promises he could make the frame by tomorrow in his shop; she would need to procur the paper, however.
I'll accept the smith's offer to make the frame, and buy some paper and ink for it.
Did my supplies cost an exact amount of money, or are we leaving our possession of money vague?
Regarding the Demagogue:
"I'm not very keen on rooting out so-called religious heresies. The Bannor may claim those Octopus Overlord followers are evil, but I haven't seen them do anything wrong yet. However that Demagogue didn't ask us to do something specific. So I'd suggest we just continue with our current task, and judge by a case by case basis should we run into anything suspicious."
zxcvbnm Nov 24, 2007, 03:12 AM [The exact money situation is vague, you really can't be counting 200+ gold every now and then. Nikis handles your economic situation, as gold amount tends to change rapidly, OOS might occur if I was in charge of that]
mipe Nov 24, 2007, 03:34 AM *mipe walks around the roads invisible* Heheh, it's time to get some money. Mipe walked around the roads for few minutes but only clue he got from the cult is that Mipe's father is still a priest in cult of OO. Because not finding anything, he did other not so lawful way to get money, but by the second victim, the invisible spell vanished off.
Mipe stealed: 5 coins.
Bad Player Nov 24, 2007, 06:47 AM [You can't know the strength of your magic if you have never tried it. (It's something around FfH lvl 1 spells.)]
[if you make bacon from Gung Fu, the Dragons will avenge it]
Makin' bacon with Gung Fu was sexual innuendo...
Anyway I'm not a fighter of course but if any of those that attack the ship are female, I will be take care of them downstairs. :groucho:
Bad Player Nov 24, 2007, 06:56 AM I join Myrddyn around the market looking for potions and reagents to buy with my newfound wealth.
Joining this Order crusade against heretics of other religions may suit us (or me) for the moment by allowing us more freedom of movement and possibly weapons if we show we are 'commited' to their cause. What do you all think?
Also I would like to find out what these keys unlock. Maybe it's a warehouse or an armoury....
Kjaaly Nov 24, 2007, 07:12 AM Tsanals walks a bit around, bored. He then spots a rat trying to access one of the food stands. "I don't think you belong there," he mumbles, and then tries to access the rats mind, and make it follow him.
If the spell succedes: He then proceeds to lure it into an alley, where a quick jab with the staff kills it. He lifts the corpse, studies it, and puts it into his bag after wrapping it in some cheap cloth.
Maniac Nov 24, 2007, 11:29 AM [The exact money situation is vague, you really can't be counting 200+ gold every now and then.
True I guess. Though I'd like to make sure I'm not going broke by buying a war fan. ;)
mipe Nov 24, 2007, 02:00 PM what time does the game go? america or europe? If america, just think this post comes few hours later...
"It's about time..." *Mipe gets stave he got from that elf and all his other stuff and goes to the ship*
Nikis-Knight Nov 24, 2007, 02:58 PM The city is built on an isthmus between two seas, and there is a canal to let ships pass through, the source of this city's strategic importance. You can take ferry's by the Inn you stayed at to cross to the side with the harbor, and you will be able to find your way to your destination without much trouble. It's about time for you to head over, and perhaps state what if any prepatations you'd make for the night.
I'll post again in 4-6 hours.
True I guess. Though I'd like to make sure I'm not going broke by buying a war fan. Nah.
Kjaaly Nov 24, 2007, 04:26 PM If he has the rat corpse: When he arrives at the ship, Tsanal, after making sure he isn't being watched, reanimates the rat, and bends it to his will. He then tries to enchant it (Well, the corpse) to cause a minor burn to all living creatures it touches. After that, he sits and waits for the others, while writing something about magical theory.
If he has no rat to reanimate: Skip to the part about sitting and waiting.
thomas.berubeg Nov 24, 2007, 04:33 PM if there's a rat, and it is enchanted, thomas freezes it back down to safe levels, perplexing tsanal, who has no idea what's going on...
if there is no rat, thomas waits
Kjaaly Nov 24, 2007, 05:14 PM If there is a rat, it is enchanted, and has been cooled off (This is getting vague): Tsanal looks at Thomas, a bit confused, and says: "Why did you do that? It's gonna help us in battle!"
thomas.berubeg Nov 24, 2007, 05:17 PM why not? it's fun.. and heat = fire, on a ship... that's not to good...
Kjaaly Nov 24, 2007, 05:20 PM "I know, I am, if you haven't noticed, not stupid. For example, that's why I enchanted it to burn all living creatures it touches, not inorganic materials," Tsanal replies, and then tries to reapply the spell.
Nikis-Knight Nov 24, 2007, 06:52 PM So Tsanal and Thomas are on the ship. It's a small carvel type ship, one mast but a decent sized hull, so must have pretty good cargo capacity, though not great speed.
Mipe had scouted the warehouse, finding it largely empty, the size of a large home, some empty crates and barrels of cheap alcohol, a couple crafes of spoiled food attracting vermin. But it seems you left and stopped by with the others in time to hear the Demagog's offer.
Is everyone on the boat?
kenken244 Nov 24, 2007, 06:54 PM I guess I'm on the boat
thomas.berubeg Nov 24, 2007, 07:14 PM to kill the time, Thomas practices his magic on the water surrounding the ship, trying to gain some skill in more precise creation of the ice crystals
Bad Player Nov 24, 2007, 07:36 PM I'm hiding on the shore near the boat. I don't wanna die!!!
Was I able to find any useful potions or reagents at the market or find what the set of keys unlocks?
Psychic_Llamas Nov 24, 2007, 07:36 PM Mryddyn arrives on the Ship just as Thomas is practicing his ice magic, he stops dead in his tracks and a dark frown crosses his face. after a few seconds he strides over to Tsanal and sits down .
He pulls out his Yew stave (if i bought it, you never said if i did :p) and holds it at arms length, examining its grain. Finally he closes his eyes and a look of deep concentration overcomes him, as he begins to work on and change the wood. Its ends become narrow and small notches appear, and they twist upward slightly. the middle of the yew stave begins to mould itself to his hand. all along its length small green shoots appear, and extremely detailed carvings and patterns adorn its entire surface. By the time he is finished, sweat is beading on his brow and he is taking breaths much more rapidly than before. he then procedes to take out the other yew stave and goose feathers and craft some arrows (DM can decide how many).
he then proceeds to make a bow string and string new Yew bow (at this point DM decides if the crafting worked or if it failed and the bow snaps in half).
having used up much of his energy on that task, he pulls out his bags of Ivy and briar seeds and some old cloth, and proceeds to wrap up several small packages with a few seeds in each (some with only Ivy, which he colours green, some with only briar, which he colours red, and some with a combination of both which he colours blue). he then places these packages in 3 pouches on his belt, which are colour coded (Green, red and blue)
finally, he takes out the herbs and ointments and begins to mix up some healing salves and potions that will invariably be needed later on down the track.
he then settles down to sleep after wraping his new weapons in oil cloth and packing his healing potions and arrows in his back pack (as a makeshift quiver).
(i have not done anything with my reagents seeds yet thay are for later ;))
Maniac Nov 24, 2007, 07:52 PM I'm also at the ship.
"Anyone fancy a game of darts?"
I use my hairpins to play darts. I also practice my Dragon Dancing.
Btw, how does the ship look like? Does it have an upper deck in the back where we could all sit, and which would be easily defendable?
Maniac Nov 24, 2007, 07:57 PM Nah.
In that case I'd like to order two. :mischief: Dragon Dancing looks better with two fans. :)
kenken244 Nov 24, 2007, 07:58 PM actually, I would rather be on the shore than on the ship.
Bad Player Nov 24, 2007, 11:47 PM I want to speak to the demagogue about work.
Nikis-Knight Nov 24, 2007, 11:53 PM He pulls out his Yew staveYour bow is workable, but your strength is too low for longbow, so we'll say this is a shortbow. You can have had time to make 15-20 arrows, but not to test them, so you can't say for sure they will all fly true.
In that case I'd like to order two. Dragon Dancing looks better with two fans. You will probably be able to get another; in fact the smith seemed quite taken with the idea, meaning you'll get what you want, but eventually the secret will be out as he markets his "Proper Ladies' Defense."
By evening time, everyone has taken their places.
[tab]Thomas, Tsanal, Mryddyn and Munak are on the deck of the ship, passing time. There is a railing on the deck of the ship, in the twilight it will obscure you. Efforts to search below decks are stopped by secure locks on thick doors. You could probably find a way to force entry, if you wanted.
[tab]Nindoro, Mipe, and Ken have spread out along the harbor, keeping the ship in view. About an hour after the curfew horn, a patrol passed by the docks, but you each managed to hide admist the crates on the pier nearest the Long Vision, Nindoro and Mipe being much better at hiding than the soldiers are at searching, at least in a crowded, unfamiliar city.
[tab]Immediately after the footsteps of the patrol vanish, Mipe, being nearest to the warehouse Corvanes spoke of, hears a faint comotion inside it. He is tempted to look inside, then backs away quickly as the door opens silently. Four shrouded figures emerge.
[tab]Mipe and Ken are close enough to hear their whispered conversation. [pm]
[tab]Then one in the lead, a scarred human man with close cut blond hair, points to the boat. The four make their way stealthily to boat and listen to the soft conversation above them. They can't make out what you on the boat are saying over the ocean noise, but have can tell where you are, around the mast. Crates of cheap food have been left on deck, and you have pushed them to make a workable fort.
[tab]Munak and Mryddyn are throwing darts. Nearby Thomas and Tsanalare arguing with their backs to them. Thomas lets out a short gasp when a dart hits his calf, causing him to fall to the deck. He turns to the girl and glares at her.
[tab]"I don't know what happened!" Munak whispers, "It spun in mid air to strike you! Let me help!" She removes the hairpin and binds the flesh wound with a sash.
[tab]Thomas is about to reply, when Tsanal gets their attention--"Look to the bow, fellows!
[tab]Three cloaked men have climbed the ropes, and stand facing you, daggers drawn.
[Those on the boat do not know of any others, though those on the shore see another man did not climb with the others, crouched by the post to which the boat is tied. Thomas' movement is hindered, but he is not bleeding badly.]
Bad Player Nov 25, 2007, 12:51 AM So, uh, there's no single women around?
mipe Nov 25, 2007, 01:05 AM After all that happening with thomas, Mipe doesnt run to Thomas because he sees that one of those which maybe shooted at Thomas, is still by the boat. Mipe is going to pray esus that his spells work this time and then turn invisible and sneak to that man (even if spell doesn't work, he still tries to sneak to him) and then hit him unconscious....
ooc: When magic you said was about everything we could have in that element, When my magic is better, would it be possible to me do a shadow spell that when used, will use shadows to trap people in them? :D
Bad Player Nov 25, 2007, 01:08 AM If I was able to buy some kind of explosive potion at the market I throw that at the dude on the shore and run.
Psychic_Llamas Nov 25, 2007, 02:38 AM Mryddyn, noticing the menace in the 3 newcomers stance, dives to his new short bow, which, thankfuly was still strung, he draws his best arrow, the last one he made, and aims carefully at the nearest man's wrist (the one holding the dagger, which is partially in front of his torso due to his defensive stance) and lets fly...
"who are you and what are you doing here!?" he yells in a comanding voice that is seemingly very out of character for him. The to Munak (who is closest to him) he wispers, "do you think you could get a hair pin in that other fellow's eye? i think we should try take one alive so we can question him..."
Kjaaly Nov 25, 2007, 03:12 AM [I assume the rat is there, and it's enchanted.]
Tsanal sends the rat to attack one of the men, and then tries to cast a spell at another one, to make him attack his allies. "Keep one of them alive!", he yells to the others, "Perhaps they have some information we can use!"
If the spell succedes: Tsanal then attacks the third, trying to disarm him with his staff.
If the spell fails: Tsanal tries to cast another spell on him, sending thoughts of death and pain into his mind.
Maniac Nov 25, 2007, 05:37 AM The to Munak (who is closest to him) he wispers, "do you think you could get a hair pin in that other fellow's eye? i think we should try take one alive so we can question him..."
"That hairpin might turn around and end up in your eyes. Better find out first what force is at work here." :scared:
I grab my staff and hold it in front of me to hold off the dagger guys, trembling a little.
[I guess I'll only have warfans tomorrow?]
Maniac Nov 25, 2007, 05:40 AM The to Munak (who is closest to him) he wispers, "do you think you could get a hair pin in that other fellow's eye? i think we should try take one alive so we can question him..."
"That hairpin might turn around and end up in your eyes. Better find out first what force is at work here." :scared:
I grab my staff and hold it defensively in front of me, trembling a little, to try and hold off/slow down the dagger guys possibly storming at us.
To Tsanal I ask: "Do you think a burning rat might have more effect? I have some oil with me."
[I guess I'll only have warfans tomorrow?]
Psychic_Llamas Nov 25, 2007, 05:50 AM "Good point Munak"
[assuming my first attack has ended, either hitting or missing the first guy, and assuming my seed balls are there]
*mumbling* "this ought to slow them down a bit" Mryddyn reaches into his belt pouches to grab a red seed ball, which he attaches to the tip of one of his arrows. clasping it in his palms he prays to Cernunnos that the tiny seeds he hold will be filled with all the growth and age of a well seasoned oak. He then channels part of his life energy into the seed bundle through his gloves and fires it at the central enemy (one he hasnt attacked)...
if the spell works the briar seeds burst into life and when they land they explode into furious growth, entangling and tearing at the enemies flesh with their mean thorns.
Kjaaly Nov 25, 2007, 05:52 AM "Oil you say? I think I have an idea. Quickly, throw it at that one!", Tsanal says, and points at the one he made the rat attack.
Maniac Nov 25, 2007, 05:57 AM Want me to light it first?
(in that other D&D I played lighting counting as one round and throwing as another IIRC)
Kjaaly Nov 25, 2007, 06:02 AM "Doesn't matter. When my rat attacks, the heat will probably set fire to him."
mipe Nov 25, 2007, 06:35 AM ooc: so did i manage to get that guy unconscious or not!?!
Psychic_Llamas Nov 25, 2007, 07:52 AM "Munak! Tsanal! this is a WOODEN ship, were being paid to prevent it from being destroyed remember? Fire and oil isnt a good idea right now"
(unless Thomas can contain the heat with his evercold ice and prevent it from destroyng the ship. or i guess i could also repair the damage with my gloves later too, with the aid from the rest of the party of corse, it would be a big job :p)
Kjaaly Nov 25, 2007, 08:06 AM "I guess you're right.... New plan! Ken, try to hold them in the air over the shore for a few seconds! Munak, when they are in the air, throw the oil at them, quickly. Then, you let go Ken, and I will send my rat after them. Thomas, if they try to go near the ship again, cool them off, we don't want any fires. And if Kens spell doesn't succeed, well, we'll just fight as normal."
Maniac Nov 25, 2007, 08:19 AM I don't see how a rat could cause a fire just because of walking near oil. But anyway, I'll throw some oil anyway (I assume the idea alone of possible being put on fire when they come too near to me and my tinderbox might reduce combat morale). Whether or not I light it first depends on how much time the DMs say this takes, and if the dagger guys do something first. (I assume we can't do all this before they take some action first)
kenken244 Nov 25, 2007, 08:23 AM Ken, seeing the man near the pier, creates a force wave between the boat and the man, driving him more towards the shore.
(if that succedes): he then attempts to blast fire at the man, who is now far enough away from the boat that it will be safe.
EDIT: I think that levitation would fall under air magic. I could do it, but they would probobly die first from the repeated blasts (and I probobly cant cast that many spells sucessivley)
Kjaaly Nov 25, 2007, 08:37 AM Tsanal (Seeing that Ken isn't where he should be), yells: "Wait, no Oil! Not now! Stooooop!!!!"
Maniac Nov 25, 2007, 08:55 AM Ah, the joys of a well-functioning organization!
thomas.berubeg Nov 25, 2007, 09:17 AM Kan, use your magic to throw water into the air over them!
if he does that and succeed, i'll freeze it as it lands on our opponents...
zxcvbnm Nov 25, 2007, 09:18 AM [I was cut off for some time, all rat stuff has succeeded.]
The attackers weren't prepared for such resistance.
Mipe manages to become a shadow but he doesn't have the strength to knock the man unconsious. He notices his attempt and hits him back. Mipe is slightly wounded, and the attacker gets knock on his forehead.
Myrddyn's arrow hit one of the men, not in the wrist but in his chest. He falls with a terrible shriek.
His another arrow entangles one of the attackers.
Tsanal's spell to control the mind of one of the men manages to confuse him a bit along with mipe's knock. The second spell does little else.
The rat gets too close to the oil and the area is quickly ablaze.
The fire cathces the entangled man and he burns to death within about a dozen seconds.
The fourth attacker is blasted with the fire but some unknown force drives most of the already modest explosion away, leaving him slighly charred but as healthy as before.
Two attackers are left. One on the pier, not hurt, the other, who seems to be the strongest of them, is slightly stunned.
kenken244 Nov 25, 2007, 09:21 AM seeing the other area on fire, Ken uses force magic to blast water onto the ship and put out the fire
Ill also ask thomas to freeze the man on the boat. I think we may have some buisiness with him
Maniac Nov 25, 2007, 09:35 AM I deduce that there must be some fourth guy who could drive away the explosion from the only man left standing on the deck, so I shout "Hey, has anyone seen a fourth guy?"
kenken244 Nov 25, 2007, 09:43 AM " Yes I have seen a fourth guy on the shore"
Having said that, Ken stares at the man on the shore (I blasted him onto the shore before I shot fire at him last time) and grabs his glowing amulet and begins to chant magic-sounding words and uses fire magic to make him look more powerfull, in an attempt to cause the person to trigger his magic-protecting sheild and make him vernurable to an unexpected attack.
If I do sense a sheild (using my intelegence or mana): Ken stops the bluff and creates a force explosion under his feet that shatters the ground.
If I do not sense a sheild: Cast wither on him
Maniac Nov 25, 2007, 09:45 AM I'll throw a burning flask of oil on him. On the pear it can't hurt the ship. :mischief:
Nikis-Knight Nov 25, 2007, 09:59 AM If I was able to buy some kind of explosive potion at the market I throw that at the dude on the shore and run.Nindoro throws a takes out a flask, lights a long wick, and throws it at the man crouching by the dock. Unfortunately, the wick falls out right as it reaches him, though the flask still shatters on his back, coating him with an explosive concoction and drawing his attention. He turns just in time to see Mipe vanish in the fog.
Meanwhile, one of his companions is hit by an arrow, dies, and falls overboard, and shortly after another is entangled and charred. The leader also dies in that blast, but the man on shore turns and begins casting a spell of his own, and the fires dies out just as they get to him. This leaves him unprepared for Mipe.
He and Mipe struggle on the dock, evenly matched until Ken's entropic touch causes his muscles to atrophy sharply, and Mipe pushes him off the dock, into the waves.
[Munak can keep her oil]
Ken manages to push a wave on board, washing off the deck, (but there isn't enough to freeze someone in place, just make it slippery if you wanted.)
The assassin on the boat is standing curses in Doviello, throws his dagger and Tsanal, and rolls behind a crate, to pull out another weapon.
kenken244 Nov 25, 2007, 10:16 AM "keep one alive, I want to question them"
Ken attempts to create another force explosion inside the assasin's hand that will force the weapon out of his hand and knock him off his feet because it is slippery
Nikis-Knight Nov 25, 2007, 10:17 AM Meanwhile, there is another warehouse next to the one that the assassin's came from. This one is painted dark blue, the color of the ocean. After the commotion of the fires and waves, an old man rushes out. Nindoro is close enough to see a crazed look in his eyes.
"My boat! What are you doing to it?" He yelled, as the assassin's chaos adept was pushed into the sea.
He runs towards the boat, but not to the ramp or the ropes; he jumps off the pier, into the waves.
Also meanwhile, those on the boat have can hear a murmur coming from below decks, coarse muffled shouts.
kenken244 Nov 25, 2007, 10:24 AM "There may be three more below deck, I heard that they were expecting seven when they were talking in the warehouse"
Maniac Nov 25, 2007, 10:30 AM "This is becoming suspicious." :scared:
I throw a hairpin at the general direction of the assassin's hiding place, to prevent him peek-a-boo-ing.
Kjaaly Nov 25, 2007, 10:45 AM [Am I hit?]
Tsanal tries to concentrate, searching for minds of possible opponents. If he finds any, he's going to send terrifying thoughts into his mind, to scare him. He will then, no matter if he finds anyone, try to teleport to the top of the mast, to get a better overview.
[If it succeedes, I would like a clear view of the situation]
Nikis-Knight Nov 25, 2007, 10:55 AM [Am I hit?]
Well, let's say you teleport first, then search for others.
Kjaaly Nov 25, 2007, 11:18 AM Good idea. My brain was turned off at the time I wrote that post... Anyway, I hope I don't fall down from the mast
mipe Nov 25, 2007, 01:37 PM mipe gets up and notices the pale elf:
"SIR, 4 attacked us, and probably some more hidden somewhere, you should go somewhere safe before someone attacks you SIR!"
*mipe picks up his staff and walks near pale elf to protect him from any danger what may come*
kenken244 Nov 25, 2007, 01:58 PM " I believe that there may be more enimies below deck. If anyone wants to search down there I could blast open the lock on the door
Bad Player Nov 25, 2007, 03:34 PM Maybe they are prisoners or kidnapped people - perhaps those assassins were trying to rescue them...
Anyway I try to scout around this warehouse and see what I can see.
kenken244 Nov 25, 2007, 03:47 PM "I dont believe they are Prisoners I overheard A conversation they were having in the wharehose and they said that there muse be three people inside"
kenken244 Nov 25, 2007, 05:50 PM I guess i'll just use force magic on the lock to open it
Psychic_Llamas Nov 25, 2007, 05:59 PM "just a second Ken" Mryddyn puts his hands the the ships boards and sends his thoughts through the wood, searching for other life forces on board [DM tells me who i see and where] and at the same time he has an idea:
"someone come here, i need to borrow some energy to trap that guy [the last enemy on the boat, (Assuming he was nocked down by Thomas)] by making the floor boards wrap him to the ground, he wont be able to move an inch once im finished [it wont hurt, just make you a little tired. its easyer with 2 or 3 people sharing the drain]" [DM tells me if ive trapped him]
[if i find the people on the ship i will cause some wood to sprout near to them, and then i will send my senses into it so i can attempt to identify their emotion, i can then try to determine whos side theyre on]
kenken244 Nov 25, 2007, 06:02 PM "I guess your way is better" Ken says as he walks over to help.
Nikis-Knight Nov 25, 2007, 07:15 PM The wood of the ship is not so freshly cut that Mryddyn can do much with it; just manage to warp it a little, leaving the deck uneven. This will knock down the last attacker; he is trained, though he didn't expect his allies to go down so quickly.
Sorry if I was vague, Mipe, but the man who ran past you was NOT one you had met before, either Corvanes or his servant the Svartalfar.
He is an old, weathered man, who now emerges back from the waves, standing on the water a stone's throw from the pier. "Your fighting will draw the guards, if they find my cargo it will mean my death!" he yells.
kenken244 Nov 25, 2007, 07:42 PM "Is he standing on the water? I've heard rumors that the cult in this city had such powers... and hes saying something about a cargo, could he be smuggling something on the ship?"
mipe Nov 25, 2007, 11:29 PM "wait a second... could those voices below the deck be slaves!?! And I kind of know one Cult of Overlords member and atleast he knows how to do lots of things in water..."
*Mipe walks to Mryddyn and gives some energy*
Maniac Nov 25, 2007, 11:55 PM "Your fighting will draw the guards, if they find my cargo it will mean my death!" he yells.
Then let's quickly end the fighting, duh! :p
...
"And your yelling won't help either!", Munak added.
Psychic_Llamas Nov 26, 2007, 02:41 AM [got PM about the lives i sensed]
Mryddyn recoils and staggers back as a wave of nausea overtakes him.
"Something, or someone is reanimating corpses below the ship! also the slaves life energies on board are also fading! if we are to save anyone we must act fast, no clue how long it takes before the Drowned get to us, or how long the slaves have left. i think i also sensed a man below the docks, his emotions felt almost gleeful, and i think he was commanding the waves, we must hurry!" [Then, finally he notices the man standing on the wave] "its him! hes controlling the waves"
"Tsanal, do you think you can take care of those Drowned with your ring? Thomas, i am normaly adverse to your faith, but in this case i can make an acception, using life this way is sickening, do you think you can freeze the surface of the water to prevent this man from using the waves against us? Ken, now is the time to blast those doors from their hinges, this has moved from a matter of protecting cargo, to a matter of saving lives, who cares about the ship?"
[once again Mryddyn dives for his bow, nocks an arrow and fires it at the man on the waves]
zxcvbnm Nov 26, 2007, 05:31 AM What do you do with the fire? The water didn't put it out, it just went under the oil layer so the ship didn't catch fire.
zxcvbnm Nov 26, 2007, 05:35 AM Tsanal didn't succeed in teleporting anywhere. He made himself just dizzy.
Mryddyn misses the man
You hear some voices from the harbor. Clearly all this furious fighting has got the attention of some Bannor military patrol keeping the curfew.
Psychic_Llamas Nov 26, 2007, 06:01 AM [What fire? the one that killed the one man that i entangled? i thought that got put out!]
Mryddyn is now severely tired out, having used so much of his energies on the ship he sends his last plea to his god,
"Oh Cernunnos! Lend me thy aid! i beseech thee, and all life upon Erebus that this monstrosity must not continue! i call upon all the Avien species, all birds, great and small to come to my aid, to fly and swarm and peck my enemies and to protect this world! So mote it be!"
with that he claps his hand above his head and his message to all the birds nearby (hopefully a lot because this is the coast, lots of Seagulls, king fishers, hawks etc should be hanging around) he sends out emotions that signify fear and the will to protect and defend, like an eagle defending her nest. he identifys the man on the waves, the Drown and any other enemies i have forgotten about [who is still alive that we are fighting? ive lost track] as those that they should be worried about. He identifies Tsanal, Mipe, Thomas, Ken, Munak, Nindoro, himself and the Bannor Guards as friends.
He pick up his bow and prepares to defend himself, he moves behing the small fort of fruit boxes and ducks below. "what do we do now? should we tell these Bannor guards that these men that are attacking us are part of the cult they aresearching for? i think its our only hope"
[@ DM: Im confused now, can you recap who is our enemies are, and what they are fighting us for? also is the man who first hired us working for the OO cult (you probably cant tell me this, but im wondering anyway :p) who is this man on the waves? what is his relation to this fiasco? whats happened to the man that Mipe tried to knock out? whats happening with the Man that we're trying to keep alive (the one i tried to entangle with the floor boards)?]
[@everyone else: we really need to plan out plan of action better next time :p]
zxcvbnm Nov 26, 2007, 06:05 AM [The fire wasn't put out, water doesn't put out oil fires]
[the story is free, you can do anything you want and the consequences are just logical, but I have something is store for you if things lead to what I think they seem to be leading to]
zxcvbnm Nov 26, 2007, 06:21 AM I'm searching for all that stuff, you post so often
zxcvbnm Nov 26, 2007, 06:27 AM [Nikis and players: please post copies of game-related PMs to me so I have a slight hope of getting a clear picture of the situation]
One assassin is left, slightly stunned by mipe's knock and Tsanal's magic and slightly entangled by the floor.
The ship's deck is still burning.
There is a man standing on the waves and some Drowned are around the ship.
A bannor patrol is closing, there's some ten of them, one acolyte of the Order and their commander. They are likely to arrest any breakers of the curfew.
mipe Nov 26, 2007, 06:42 AM "I go alarm the guards, try to keep them here until guards come! Also, after the fight is over, I need to tell you something I overheard!" Mipe runs slowly (because he just got up from being unconscious) towards the city and hopes finding guards to help them.
Psychic_Llamas Nov 26, 2007, 07:01 AM (thanks for the recap :) the situation isnt as bad as i thought :p)
"Ken, do you think you can collect that fire again and contain it? If not, could Tsanal transfer the flames into a timewarp in a paralell dimension?" (by collect i mean reabsorb the power behind it, you can use fire magic, so that means you have total control over fire :p)
Kjaaly Nov 26, 2007, 07:39 AM "Fire? Undead? Yes, of course..." Tsanal mumbles, and tries to get control of himself. "I wont be able to make the fire disappear, I'm not powerful enough to do that, and I'm afraid my ring wont help against the undead. My spells may, though..."
He then tries to control one of the drowned with his spells, commanding it to attack the others. Then, he screams: "There is someone BELOW the water! He's raising them! We need to kill him NOW! Don't try to talk to him, he is mad!"
Tsanal then draws his staff, and jumps into the water...
[What do I see down there?]
zxcvbnm Nov 26, 2007, 07:46 AM [The stunned assassin was against the man on the waves and others on his side]
[So are the Bannor soldiers]
Mryddin calls for Cernunnos but it takes almost all his strength. He falls on his knees, half-conscious.
Some birds arrive but they aren't very useful as the man standing on the waves creates a shower of water which flushes them down before they get to him.
The fire, neglected for so long, has begun to consume the ship's side along the deck, which has partially fallen down. The flames have grown and lick the masts. It's very hot and uncomfortable on the ship as the heat starts to spread.
The patrol is closing and several others have been alerted to help in protecting the harbour from fire.
zxcvbnm Nov 26, 2007, 07:49 AM Tsanal's spells to control the drowned do nothing.
Some drowned bodies rise to the surface and the birds begin pecking bits of rotten flesh from their swollen bodies. They slowly glide through the water despite of the birds tearing them apart from their parts that are on the surface.
Maniac Nov 26, 2007, 07:54 AM "what do we do now? should we tell these Bannor guards that these men that are attacking us are part of the cult they aresearching for? i think its our only hope"
We tell the Bannor guards that we were acting under authorization of the Demagogue, and tell them to bring us to him. To the Demagogue we tell the story that we tracked down these Overlords followers and were trying to neutralize them and free the slaves. We add we hope he and his superiors will be pleased with this success. ;)
I have no idea if I can do anything against these Overlord guys.
I'll make use of the assassin being somewhat stunned and entangled to safely run to him and firmly press my staff to the spot just under his sternum. I ask "It seems me and my friends have been used unknowingly to guard a ship full of evil! My apologies... But you obviously aren't Bannor. Who sent you here? What were you meant to do here? Who are the seven you were expecting?"
Gong Fu, scared by the fire, will probably run to come close to me.
Maniac Nov 26, 2007, 07:58 AM ignore this
zxcvbnm Nov 26, 2007, 08:30 AM This is a crude drawing of your situation
Nikis-Knight Nov 26, 2007, 08:45 AM [Nikis and players: please post copies of game-related PMs to me so I have a slight hope of getting a clear picture of the situation]aye, sorry.
I don't have time to catch up this morning, haev to go to work in a few minutes. I'll be sure to read everything when I get back.
Quick and dirty version: The crazy OO priest has turned the two hunters you dispatched into drown. It was not done in a OO temple, so they are weaker than normal drown. They will try to attack you. If Bannor patrols show up, the OO priest will order them to sink his ship and run away.
The remaining assassin will want to leave if possible.
zxcvbnm Nov 26, 2007, 08:48 AM I'll run this for some hours
The assassin refuses to answer any questions
Kjaaly Nov 26, 2007, 09:46 AM "THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE WATER!", Tsanal screams. "GET AWAY! SAVE WHO YOU CAN, BUT GET AWAY QUICKLY! SOMETHING, SOMETHING MORE POWERFUL ANY OF US HAS EVER HAVE ENCOUNTERED, IS CONTROLLING THE WATER!"
He unsheates the blad, and throws it against the man, and the second he lets go of the handle, he attempts to cast a dimensional spell to teleport it, making it appear a foot or so in front of the man. He then swims over to the shore.
Maniac Nov 26, 2007, 10:24 AM The assassin refuses to answer any questions
"So you prefer to burn to death??"
How entangled is the assassin btw? Can he free himself? Could he be freed with my help?
zxcvbnm Nov 26, 2007, 11:15 AM The spell fails but it moves the blade unpredictably so the man doesn't manage to evade it. It piercces the shower as nothing and hits him in his elbow. However he is not even nearly fatally injured.
Tsanal feels completely exhausted now, and barely manages to escape the drowned and get away from the water.
One of the drowned grabs a bird and tears it apart.
Even your threats don't have an effect on the last living assassin:
"I will burn rather than reveal things to you. Don't think that because one of you controls the drowned you can escape me!"
He is completely able to free himself as the floor is only slightly uneven but your threat keeps him in place.
zxcvbnm Nov 26, 2007, 01:36 PM The Bannor patrols finally arrive.
The insane and wounded priest flees and orders his creatures to sink that ship. Fortunately they have little capability for that and the soldiers easily dispatch them. The fire can't be put out but the people inside are released before the ship collapses to a floating inferno.
You are all rounded up and taken to the nearest barracks. As the assassin is taken away he shouts something:
"You can't run from us forever! We will hunt you down someday until you pay what Corvanes wants! Your little rotten dummies don't scare us!" and curses in doviello.
You are all locked up for the rest of the night for breaking the curfew. You'll be questioned in the morning.
When locked up you check your injuries:
Mipe is slightly wounded in his left arm
Tsanal's burning rat is dead
Others are unharmed
zxcvbnm Nov 26, 2007, 01:42 PM You are locked up in the same cell, although Munak has her private chamber arranged
Kjaaly Nov 26, 2007, 01:46 PM Tsanal whispers to the others: "Sooo, what excuse are we going to use? Where we helping the demagogue? Where we tricked into believing we where helping the Bannor? We need to use the same explanation, or we'll be in biiig trouble."
thomas.berubeg Nov 26, 2007, 02:30 PM We were of course under orders of the demagogue.
[what do we have in this cell? any thing that i could use to help us get it if need be? some water or something? froen water expands, and could crack the lock... do people want me to do that?]
Bad Player Nov 26, 2007, 03:40 PM Note: I wasn't with the crew (yeah, that's us!) when they got arrested so I might go spend the gold on high class whores and coke. Then I'll come and bail you out.
Not to fear! I shall recount the tales of our mighty struggle against evil unto all who will incline their ear!
That night I try to join the demagogue and the order mob in ridding the city of this evil new cult. Then I will try and get him to let out my crew (bail if necessary) and tell him we will join the fight against the blasphemers. Also weapons and freedom to break the curfew will be necessary!
Maniac Nov 26, 2007, 04:05 PM In case I get a chance to talk with the others before I get my own cell/barracks:
First, those seven the first (Doviello?) attackers were expecting were of course us. :hammer2:
Second, the assassin told me "I will burn rather than reveal things to you. Don't think that because one of you controls the drowned you can escape me!" So I guess he doesn't believe we weren't aware of Overlords involvement, despite some of you attacking the priest. Or perhaps he didn't see the priest? Or something else?
Also I can't make sense of his other exclamation.
"You can't run from us forever! We will hunt you down someday until you pay what Corvanes wants! Your little rotten dummies don't scare us!" and curses in doviello."
What Corvanes wants us to pay?? I assumed he would be aware of the "cargo" in his ship and thus be in league with the Overlords. What is this guy's relation to Corvanes?
kenken244 Nov 26, 2007, 05:45 PM First I would like to attempt to clarify our current situation. Before we were attacked i overheard the following conversation between our attackers:
One cloaked human in a Doviello accent said, "They weren't in the warehouse. They must be on the boat."
Another said, "I count four. We expected seven. Stay alert. Lupon, it is your show."
our attackers must have searched the blue wherehouse in order to find the cult's cargo. they must have known that corvanes was working with the cult and thus they suspected that the cargo was on his boat. Corvanes must have hired us to help the cult as he knew beforehand of the attack on the boat and i do not believe that the cult would attack itself. We now are presented with a choice: we can either escape from this cell and join with the cult, or we can tell the demagouge all that we know of this cult and join with the bannor.
Seeing as our attackers expected seven people, there may be more possible enimies on the loose. I think it would be safest to stay in this cell untill morning
Psychic_Llamas Nov 26, 2007, 06:46 PM [Assuming we all have our stuff still, except our eapons of corse]
[Mryddyn, who is extremely weakened from the nights endeavours, attempts to get out his bag of reagent seeds, but with shaking hands he drops them. The others can see the frustration on his face. He eventually gathers them all up and gets them into a small bowl, which was in his back pack, he then begins crushing them 1 by 1 with his thumb nail, letting the magical juices ooze out. Slowly he continues his work, the others bemused by the seemingly pointless act.]
[Finally he pours the thick juices into 3 vials from his bag, but the last little bit he drinks. He feels as though he drank warm honeyed water, a strange sensation runs through his body as his energies replenish themselves. finally he says:]
"Reaenergent potion. (in explanataion) i really should have done that before we got on the boat."
"I think we should tell the bannor everything we know about that ship, and the cult. We never declined the demagogue's offer, so im inclinded to accept it after that catastrophy."
[he moves across to Mipes left arm, feeling much more energetic.]
"let me see that wound Mipe"
[he pulls out one of his healing salves and begins to clean and bindthe wound so it dosnt get infected.]
"is anyone else wounded?"
[whilst he works on clean peoples wounds he says:]
"next time we can see our selves getting into a fight, we need to have a plan of action so that the situation dosnt get so chaotic again. we need to decide what roles people will have in a fight."
[Im going to write up a spell list for my Character, and can the DM tell me the cance of any of those spells working? because none of mine worked :( (except the entangling seeds)]
kenken244 Nov 26, 2007, 07:40 PM "I'll be in charge of general attacking. And fixing any messes that may arise unexpectedly."
[and i hope you realize that if someone is not at their computer and you want them to do something, you can simply say what you want them to do (provided it is reasonable)]
thomas.berubeg Nov 26, 2007, 07:52 PM I motion we follow the demagogue...
Psychic_Llamas Nov 26, 2007, 08:31 PM I think me and Munak should act as support fire, Shooting, throwing hair pins and darts etc at enemies from a distance. i can also cast healing and regenrative spells on you guys then and also slow down and trap enemies with my seed balls. when we get in close combat Munak can do her Dragon Dance, and i can use my stave
Nikis-Knight Nov 26, 2007, 09:01 PM [tab] Nindoro followed the guards stealthily as they take the party across the canal to the baracks. He lurks around the back for awhile, until shooed away by the guards. He heads back to the docks, to spend the night above the tavern in considerable more comfort than the rest of you. In the morning he returns, his resolve apparently strengthened, swearing to vouch for the group mistakingly taken last night. He is ushered by a guard into the assembly hall where the rest of his group, flanked by guards, is discussing the situation with the demagogue who had previously requested their assistance. Mipe glares at Nondoro, then turns back to the Demagogue.
[tab]"After observing you for some time, as was done with all people in town of high potential, to determine their allegience, I asked you to report any illegal activity to me--but you were not given authority to break the law in doing so. Violation of curfew, tresspass, and possibly arson. However, you did not resist arrest, and we found you resisting the assualts of the two Drown, proof positive that the thralls of the Overlords still have a pressence in the town.
[tab]"The priest has fled, but we have identified him as the owner of the boat you were on, Ranal Storm-eye. We are hunting down his compatriarts based on the reports of the dock workers.
[tab]"The question arises, however, of why you six--seven, I guess--were guarding a vessel full of dwarven slaves. Slavery has been banned in all lands touched by the holy word of Junil."
[tab]Thomas explains the situation, with everyone chipping in--that you were hired by a man you hadn't before met to guard a specific boat from unnamed rivals, without knowledge of the cargo.
[tab]"I see. This Corvanes claimed ownership of the vessel, as did Ranal. It is likely they were in league. I need you to track this man down. We cannot spare an Inquisitor at the moment, so some guile may better suited to the task. Do this, and you will have the gratitude of the new government of Paradera."
kenken244 Nov 26, 2007, 09:04 PM Ken asks the demagouge,
"Will we be allowed to carry weapons?"
[if we're not allowed to I will attempt to use my high charisima to change his mind]
Either way (provided we are allowed to leave) I head to the market to purchase two pieces of metal tubes, several metal spheres, a small pouch and two small mana crystals. I then enchant the mana crystals with force magic so that when pressure is applied to one, it causes the other to launch a force explosion. I then use fire magic to weld the two pieces of pipe perpendicular to eachother with the triggering mana crystal near the joint. i then weld the spell casting crystal to the back of the top pipe. Then I get Tsanal to enchant the spheres to fly straight. In the end i create a magic-powered pistol (and the guards won't even identify it as a weapon!)
Bad Player Nov 26, 2007, 09:12 PM Sir, we'll need a map of the town and the help of guards - we can't take down this powerful priest by ourselves. At a minimum we will need weapons and freedom to break curfew if we are to find and follow this evil cultist.
Nikis-Knight Nov 26, 2007, 09:14 PM He frowns. "It is a fair question, I've no doubt you will be facing danger. But the law cannot be bent for you. It would be a bad example, but more, we do not want to spread news of your mission to every soldier on patrol, word would leak and you would be in further danger. So I must advise against it, though if you manage to conceal something, I certainly don't object."
If this map helps, you're welcome to it, it's what I'm using but my handwriting...
164704
mipe Nov 26, 2007, 11:33 PM "Thank you for the map, and did you say that any weapon that is hidden is not illegal?"
ooc: can we already leave? and actually, that map is pretty good :goodjob:
Psychic_Llamas Nov 26, 2007, 11:41 PM [assuming were alloud to leave]
"i need to go to the market to get some more items"
i want to stock up on some more reagents seeds, and also some herbs etc for more healing potions which i used up in the cell. i also want to buy some more vials, a Mortar and pestal (small bowl and crushing stick made of stone)
i need some more plant seeds, but this time i want some dangerous ones,
-Carnivorous plants (like fly traps, but mine will be able to grow much bigger )
-poison ivy,
-mushroom spores that produce fungus which explodes in a burst of the same spores that cause delirious actions and irrational thought. (my magic will make them grow faster)
i will probably be able to get all of these things from more occult or black market herbalists ;)
-a pouch of a specific mushroom spore, which causes those who breathe it to fall asleep.
id also like to pay a visit to somewhere that house lots of different kinds of animals... perhaps even the fish market (because that way i could examine the animals and learn to polymorphy myself into that animal, but i have to have time to examine it first ;)
Bad Player Nov 27, 2007, 12:25 AM Any chance of formally making us part of the mission against this dangerous and evil cult? Perhaps badges would allow us to show uniformed guards we are on duty - detectives like.
Kjaaly Nov 27, 2007, 01:07 AM "Well, at least we now have proof that we're fighting on the right side," Tsanal says, and then continues: "I'll need to go to the mage guild. I don't want to be stuck again, unable to do anything, just because the undead is immune to my mind and disease spells."
"Ken, are you coming with me? I think you could use the training too."
Psychic_Llamas Nov 27, 2007, 02:15 AM "oh, id like to come along too Tsanal, ill be right there"
zxcvbnm Nov 27, 2007, 05:34 AM Either way (provided we are allowed to leave) I head to the market to purchase two pieces of metal tubes, several metal spheres, a small pouch and two small mana crystals.
You would need Tsanal to help you enchant it, as you don't have that sphere.
Maniac Nov 27, 2007, 06:28 AM our attackers must have searched the blue wherehouse in order to find the cult's cargo. they must have known that corvanes was working with the cult and thus they suspected that the cargo was on his boat. Corvanes must have hired us to help the cult as he knew beforehand of the attack on the boat and i do not believe that the cult would attack itself. We now are presented with a choice: we can either escape from this cell and join with the cult, or we can tell the demagouge all that we know of this cult and join with the bannor.
This doesn't explain what the assassin said as far as I understand.
For the record, some of us attacked the cultist, so we can't join the cult.
"I'll be in charge of general attacking. And fixing any messes that may arise unexpectedly."
That's a bit vague to be of use. ;)
My intention re fighting style is indeed what Mryddyn says. If we could have weapons, I think a crossbow would fit well for me (since that doesn't rely on my strength unlike swords, longbows etc), but that's a non-issue at the moment.
"I see. This Corvanes claimed ownership of the vessel, as did Ranal. It is likely they were in league. I need you to track this man down."
This man = Ranal, not Corvanes?
Anyway, if we can leave, I'll go to the Dwarven smith to fetch my war fans. After having the war fans in my possession, I'd like to remind him that carrying weapons is not allowed by the Bannor, so that he shouldn't market this idea too openly.
Btw, ideas to find Ranal's whereabouts:
1) check out the warehouse Ranal came from
2) (some of us?) break into Corvanes' house and interrogate him about all he knows about the Overlords and that group that attacked us. Of course without the Bannor knowing. They don't like us breaking the law to get information.
mipe Nov 27, 2007, 07:50 AM "Also, thank you Mryddyn for fixing my arm, there was huge pain before you healed it"
[if allowed to leave] mipe goes around the city to find a place where to buy illegal things...
ooc: Is there any illegal stores around here? if so, how much would these things cost:
many lockpicks
poison
zxcvbnm Nov 27, 2007, 08:13 AM "You are allowed to leave now, just remember to obey the law."
[If someone might want to buy forbidden stuff, the more susipicious inns might be a place where such people could be found]
[surely something of that kind is in Paradera, you spent some of your money in black market food because you were so tired of fish]
Psychic_Llamas Nov 27, 2007, 08:26 AM [Assuming ive bought my provisions]
im going to mix up more Reaenergent potions for later (DM deside how many i have) and i also make more of my healing potions and salves.
I make several more seed pouches [depending on what i managed to buy]:
Purple Poison ivy ones,
Grey Carnivorous plants each with only a couple of seeds
Yellow Confusion Spores
Black Sleep Spores
These i place in their colour coded pouches on my belt.
(do i still have my Bow? im guessing not because its not easy to conceal and the Bannor would have confiscated it :()
"im off to the mage guild. id like to see how you Arcane casters weild your magic, i may learn a trick or two :)"
zxcvbnm Nov 27, 2007, 08:39 AM You got all that stuff but you had to spend the last of your coins.
The bow was taken. It might be returned when you leave the town with a permission.
You got a total of 6 energising potions. Then you ran out of reagents.
You got about a vial of healing salve. and two small healing potions.
For healing salves you might want some graymold. It's the hell to get but can cure almost anything.
kenken244 Nov 27, 2007, 11:40 AM I wonder if i could use my entropy magic to make Mryddyn's seeds more dangerous :mischief:
I do not think corvanes would still be in his house if he got word of the events last night
I guess i could go to the mage guild to practice my magic
OOC: how do we get better at magic? just by using it a lot?
Maniac Nov 27, 2007, 12:10 PM I do not think corvanes would still be in his house if he got word of the events last night
Then we can check out his house without a problem.
Kjaaly Nov 27, 2007, 12:29 PM When they arrive at the Mage Guild, Tsanal goes to find some of the more experienced mages. He asks them some questions about Mind and Dimensional magic, feeling that it may not be wise to mention Death magic while the Bannor is near. Specifically, he wants to know if there is a good way to use them to defend himself, perhaps against the undead.
He also asks if there is a library he can use.
[If there is, and he's being watched]: He tries to find some books on the Theory of Telekinesis and Teleportation, The Powers of the Mind, and Basic Enchantment. He will ask if he can borrow them.
[If there is, and he's not being watched]: Same as above, with the exception that he also tries to find a book on death magic. (Will NOT ask to borrow it, but will return it to it's place before talking to the other mages again.)
[If there isn't]: He returns to the others.
kenken244 Nov 27, 2007, 12:35 PM OOC: there is a library outside the mage guild; I managed to decipher some of knight's handwriting and came up with this:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/111442/map.JPG
It's sideways though but you could always print it out
mipe Nov 27, 2007, 01:04 PM Mipe doesnt found anything interesting so he goes back to the Paradera in and asks from the innkeeper quietly: "do you know where to buy some not legal stuff? and innkeeper replies: "Oh yes, the person you are looking is in that table!"
Mipe walks to the table and sits there and asks quietly again: "I heard I can buy some not so legal stuff from you... how much would be some lockpicks and few bottles of poison that would work well with dagger?"
ooc: could someone translate kenken's translation? :D
zxcvbnm Nov 27, 2007, 01:14 PM There is a library near the mage guild. Tsanal gets to read the books easily but they can't be borrowed.
The books about forbidden arts are in a locked area, and it's watched. The guard however looks a bit tired, perhaps if he was a bit more tired he wouldn't notice anything...
Ken goes to talk to the mages, but they are reluctant to share their secrets.
[You can improve your skills by using them, or by training somewhere]
The man in the inn answers to mipe's question:"No stuff like that here. The word on the street is that the market is a bit different at night"
Kjaaly Nov 27, 2007, 01:39 PM Tsanal takes some notes from the books, with the paper and ink he bought the other day. (It IS legal, right?) He then goes to the market, looking for some cheap wooden figures. He will then go back to his inn room, where he will practice with enchanting the figures to levitate for a little time, and try to move them around with his mind.
If he meets Ken, he's going to try to debate their use of magic, and ask him about his reasons for choosing his what he has chosen.
thomas.berubeg Nov 27, 2007, 02:36 PM Thomas goes back to the inn to pray to mulcarn to improve his power and teach him new spells and powers
)ooc: Nikis, what happens when mulcarn dies? does he go to hell? )
kenken244 Nov 27, 2007, 03:54 PM OOC: no, he gets transformed into auric
Bad Player Nov 27, 2007, 04:03 PM What kind of weapons can I use well as a rogue? I'd like to buy more explosive potions please and can I just make up potions I'd like to buy (e.g. healing potion, etc)? Also I'd like to buy lockpicks too.
To Demagogue:
From the outset I saw the wisdom of joining you in the fight against the Overlords cult. Truely they will bring lawlessness to the lands. It was these others - I barely know them - that I am trying to convince to join your crusade. Make me a detective and I will ruthlessly hunt down overlord sympathisers!
thomas.berubeg Nov 27, 2007, 06:51 PM OOC: no, he gets transformed into auric
(ooc: i thought Auric was delusional, insane, and oly convinced he was mulcarn's reincarnation, not really mulcarn himself? anyway, would praying to mulcarn/auric increase my power?)
Psychic_Llamas Nov 27, 2007, 06:54 PM Mryddyn wonders around the Mages Guild in search for The Nature magic department or Divine Department so he can ask about his magic and how nature magic works in general.
He will then follow Tsanals route and head to the Library to search through Books on the diferent aspects of animals and their biography. He takes notes on specific animals, particulary the Bear, the Cat and the Owl. (my next best way of learning to transform myself :) )
i then head back to the inn to pray that Cernunnos grants me more knowledge about the Nature of erebus, and of those animals i mentioned. he then proceeds to practice his ploymorphisation with the three animals.
Nikis-Knight Nov 27, 2007, 07:57 PM (ooc: Nikis, what happens when mulcarn dies? does he go to hell? )
OOC: no, he gets transformed into auric
Word among the Illians is that their charasmatic new leader shows signs of the power of the Great Cold One. Rumors have it that Mulcarn escaped the realm of Arawn due to events east a generation ago, when Auric confronted an Elf named Gosam in a shrine of Arawn. Mulcarn cannot get to his vault (Hell) or back because his celestial body is slain. Prayer to him would probably not be effective (barring some really world changing events;)), but rituals and prayers to his Angels would still have power.
However, don't be caught doing so anywhere anyone can see you. Mulcarn is not fondly remembered, except among the Illians and possibly the Sheaim.
What kind of weapons can I use well as a rogue? I'd like to buy more explosive potions please and can I just make up potions I'd like to buy (e.g. healing potion, etc)? Also I'd like to buy lockpicks too.Be creative, but not so advanced; poisons slow acting, explosive mixtures but not cast grenades, and so forth.
Bad Player Nov 27, 2007, 09:34 PM OK so I'd like to buy some explosive (like throwing a flammable liquid which ignites) potions (x5) + sleeping powder and a ring whose top opens so I can store the powder in it secretly (idea taken from an old Asterix and Obelisk book) (small vials to make people go to sleep when drunk - it is tasteless, odourless, and colourless) + poison powder + another similar ring.
BTW I'm putting all my dialogue in italic text from now on to make it less confusing for others. :)
Nikis-Knight Nov 27, 2007, 10:17 PM You can have enough for one use of each of those. Remember, you haven't been paid the rest of your money. Perhaps when you find your old employer...?
mipe Nov 27, 2007, 11:40 PM Be creative, but not so advanced; poisons slow acting, explosive mixtures but not cast grenades, and so forth.
ooc:yes i know poison acts slow... atleast if I hit someone with poison, they dont notice anything, but in 12 hours, they can't move at all... more specific with poison I need: paralyzing poison.
[If I got lockpicks] Mipe got lockpicks but the merchant said that he needs some time to get poison so Mipe gets out of inn and looks the map: "hmmh... mages guild should have some interesting to do, and I can always give all magic scrolls I dont need for those mages that are with me..."
Mipe walks to the mages guild and tries to lockpick a door, but he notices the door is magically locked, and cannot be opened by normal means. He then sees Tsanal: "Hey Tsanal, my bag accidentally left to the other side of that door and its now magically locked... could you please open it?"
Kjaaly Nov 28, 2007, 12:10 AM "Eh? Oh, no, sorry. No idea how to do that, must be the force department," Tsanal replies. He begins to leave, but suddenly stops, turns around, and looks at Mipe. He then slowly says: "Wait... The mages probably wouldn't suddenly lock a door, so how should your bag be in there? I think you'd better leave, Mipe. Don't misunderstand me, I bet you're a nice guy after all, but you shouldn't try to break in here."
Bad Player Nov 28, 2007, 01:04 AM You can have enough for one use of each of those. Remember, you haven't been paid the rest of your money. Perhaps when you find your old employer...?
Could you plz add an item inventory to the initial character stats which is on page 1? That way we all know what we do and don't have. I tried to get explosive potion, reagents, sleeping powder + ring, poison powder + ring, lockpicks (IIRC).
Psychic_Llamas Nov 28, 2007, 02:49 AM (did i get that info on animals? if not i will drain most of my energy and charge my staff with it for later use, storing my life force in the now thriving piece of living wood, i will now go to sleep. if i did get the info, i will finish praciticing my polymorphisation and then drain the last of my energy into the staff for later)
mipe Nov 28, 2007, 06:56 AM "hmh that stupid little Tsanal, cant even open a magical lock...
Well, then I need to find something else..." then Mipe sees it, there is a blind mage in front of him, and he didn't hear Mipe, and when Mipe gets a good opportunity to 'Change The Ownerships Of Items' he does it. He sneaks behind the mage and sees a scroll that he has. Mipe quickly takes it and hides it, but then suddenly, Mipe's eyes go dark and he was unconscious. Mipe wakes up outside the mages guild and quickly looks his items and he still has everything including the scroll, which turned out to be the map of mage guild. Mipe also sees a note in front of him which says: "You shouldn't steal from the mages, we added a spell on you that makes you not to be able to go inside the mages guild in 2 weeks." Mipe sighs and then goes back to the inn to sleep
ooc: grr, my inventory should also say lockpicks and now the map ;) also, Tsanal should sleep 1 eye open or this :suicide: , this :ar15: or this :backstab: will happen.
zxcvbnm Nov 28, 2007, 09:29 AM [the PC stats are updated once a day]
[The cults of the Dragon and of Mulcarn are similar in their difference from other religions: their gods don't have such ability to affect the living as other ones have so they must use also different ways. They are trying to bring their gods to the world to be mighty.]
Mryddin gets some insight on the animals, but he feels that he should be a bit more devoted to his task and its ways.
He drains some of his energy in the staff. It becomes very invigorated and new leaves sprout from it.
Mipe and Bane didn't get the lockpicks yet, it hasn't been night yet and they need to find the way to get them.
Maniac Nov 28, 2007, 10:19 AM Ah, I see the war fans on my character sheet.
I'd next like to restock on oil flasks and any hairpins I couldn't retrieve. I'm also wondering if Erebus has the technology to make a hairpin/needle in which some mildly poisonous fluid could be stored which is released upon being thrown into someone's meat.
Annoyed by her fellow group members being more concerned about their personal magick skills than the task at hand :p Munak decides to strike out on her own, and run past Corvanes's home to see if there still seems any activity there. At least if Corvanes' house is in a busy enough street so that I could walk by unnoticed.
zxcvbnm Nov 28, 2007, 10:52 AM Munak meets some of the blacksmiths of the town who are not occupied with keeping the army running. Alas none of them have the skills to do anything like that.
"Nope, one would need to be one of those creatures of legends to succeed in that. Forging anything that small needs a lot of skill and making the needle hollow is impossible for us. We can't cast it, we can't hammer it, no chance."
zxcvbnm Nov 28, 2007, 01:56 PM Munak manages to find the house of Corvanes. She walks past it several times but doesn't notice anything. Walking around longer might cause suspicion. The house seems still inhabited.
zxcvbnm Nov 28, 2007, 02:12 PM [Check the new head post for game rules!]
thomas.berubeg Nov 28, 2007, 03:53 PM I will search throughout the city to find a place i can pray to the angels of mulcarn, to see if they are willing to give anything to a devoted follower.
(divine weaponry, teachings in magic, special information, etc.... anything)
Psychic_Llamas Nov 28, 2007, 05:27 PM Mryddin gets some insight on the animals, but he feels that he should be a bit more devoted to his task and its ways.
you mean i need to pray to Cernunnos more often? ok :p
Mryddyn awakes, refreshed from his sleep. he packs his equipment he needs for the long day ahead of him. He decides that he needs to search out the others and organise the group, we have had enough of a break and have had enogh time to prepare ourselves.
when he meats Munak and she tells him about her hollow hair pins idea. i reply:
"Munak, i could shape some wooden hair pins like those you described, i could also encourage the wood to become as strong as steel. i wouldnt be able to make the poison inject into the meat, but im sure Tsanal could enchant them..."
She also asks why i was more worried about my powers than this mission, and i reply:
"i had a thought that none of us are good in melee fighting, so i decide to seek guidance from Cernunnos. he suggested that i follow the ways of nature and become one with the bears. if i can learn enough about bears, i can transform into one and become much better use at melee fighting. ive also learnt to transfrom into a cat and owl, so i can scout corvanes home much mor thoroughly than anyone else, except perhaps Mipe"
We then set off together to round up the others in the gang.
when we find everyone, Mipe and i should go together to Corvanes house, i as the cat (if it is day, but if its night ill go as an owl) and Mipe invisible. we should be able to determine who is inside in that way.
ooc: what does 'ooc' mean :p and when i transform into an animal do my belongings change too, or must i leave them with someone? also you siad i 'gained some insight into the animals' but didnt say whether i succeeded in polymorhisation or not :p
Nikis-Knight Nov 28, 2007, 09:36 PM (ooc=Out of Character)
*I'll get other people some more attention next time, I think I'm out of thinking for now.*
Time frame--evening of the day of your release, leading to night.
[tab]Thomas wandered the town, clearing his mind and letting instinct guide him. He finds himself by a small lake south of the main road. Strangely, no one is nearby at the moment. Thomas drops a finger into the lake, and a thin sheet of ice forms around it. Abruptly upon the ice, an image forms. It is of a tall man with the head of bear. As he gazes back at you from the ice, you hear a voice in your head. “I am Thiassi, Curator of Mulyr, vault of Mulcarn. You are one who seeks the return of the world to the still and cold time, the perfect vision of our lord. Towards these ends, there is an artifact we must have returned to Auric Ulvin, shell of the great one. The sons of the Godslayer have the heart of the Drifia somewhere in their lands, a trophy of their blasphemy. Seek this, it is obscured to our seers.
“One last thing, Thomas: a boon and a seal.” The bear roars, and a chill wind blows through the city. As the ice in the lake melts and the image of Thiassi fades, you feel the Ice Crystal you keep burn against your skin. You reach down and notice that it has left an image of a white hand on your chest that doesn’t fade.”
[This may allow you to gain some protection against fire, but also gives a mark of the white hand]
[tab]Munak walks around the manor where they had been given the job to guard the vessel. Twice, daring not linger longer without a set plan. There is still activity there; servants going in and out, though none you recognize. Before returning to the Inn to meet her companions, she stops by the market to pick up her war fans. The smith fills your ear with tales of the orders he’s taken for the design. As you turn to go, you feel a hand on your shoulder. She spins around, ready to defend herself; seeing the man holding her, she smiles, and says, “Oh, hi Uncle Haral!”
“Don’t you give me that. I thought you had left town! I haven’t seen my little niece for nearly two weeks, thinking you had gone back to your father’s farm.”
“I could not leave! There was an army on the road east.”
“Aye, and ye couldn’t tell your Uncle that you were still in town? My errands too much for you? Well, nevermind that, we’ve more important business. The Bannor rule the town now. Boatmen, Soldiermen, it’s all the same to us, of course, but they are bringing one more religion to the city. This city should belong to the Dragons, the beasts of power, not some impotent god held at bay by an ancient treaty! We’re going to sabotage this temple, tonight. And you’ll come with us, if you know what’s good for you. Meet by the lakeside inn at midnight, the owner there is a lizard as well. The temple site is just up the hill from there.”
[tab]Mipe is the first to return to the Inn, and, a bit weary from his adventures at the mage guild, takes a nap after supper is served. Shortly Mipe is awoken by a visitor in his corner of the room. He sees a female shape, and reaches out, only to have his hand batted away. The woman beckons him with a finger, then turns and climbs out the window, up to the roof. Mipe follows.
In the fading light of the sunset you recognize her as Shanna, a serving girl from the Inn you are staying at. Instead of the tattered but revealing dress she had been wearing, she is in pants and a tunic tied with a belt. “I’ve been following you. You’re a good thief—not as good as you think you are, but better than me,” she says, holding her left hand to show two fingers missing. “The Bannor don’t take well to thievin’. With the Lanun, it depends on who runs the port, Hannah gives control to one o’ her Pirate Captains, and they tend to have a lot of turnover in such jobs, if you know what I mean. If you’re careful who you flinch from, you’re fine, but now, the law’s the law is THE LAW, know what I mean? And the law don’t take well to thievin’, but I gotta get me enough money to get outta here, and thievin’ beats a girl’s other alternatives. I need you to teach me. I can tell there is something about you, even before I followed you. So, can you train me?” She smiles, almost innocently, “or should the guards learn there’s a thief staying here?”
[tab]Munak returns to the Inn to find the others. Mryddyn is there, wanting to discuss strategy for tracking down Corvanes. Munak tells him that there is still activity at the manor, but she couldn’t tell by whom. So Mryddyn relates his idea to assume the form of an owl and observe in the night. He hasn’t seen Mipe yet, but Munak suggest they wait. Mryddyn is eager to show his talent, so he takes the owl shape, seeing the sun is soon to vanish.
His clothes drop to the floor, and he hopes out of them, finding himself looking at Munak’s knees.
What was he going to do? Fly… somewhere… the moon is rising. You can see the tasty animals of the forest from the sky… you must get out, upon the breezes. Mryddyn fights to keep the influence of his new mind’s instincts. Out the window you fly, noting your friend Mipe on the roof, but there is another person there as well, so you don’t stop, but fly north over noble districts. Corvanes manor is guarded by two uniformed guards on near the road, but your sharp eyes make out an archer on the roof and two more hunters prowling the grounds between the gate and the house. You perch on a rooftop, fighting the urge to swoop down and find something to eat, and watch patiently. Through the window you see the tall pale elf who attends to Corvanes, leafing through a thick tome. After a time he puts it up, motions with his hands, and vanishes.
mipe Nov 28, 2007, 11:25 PM Mipe looks at Shanna and says " Yes, I can teach you, but there is 2 things:
1. I never do anything if I dont get any money from it.
2. How do I know that you are not a friend of a guard, and planning to set me up to some crime?"
ooc: oh no you shouldn't have done that mryddyn... maybe some other bird but not owl... even if you are going to search something, before you can control your animal instincts, you will drop to ground every 5 seconds because you think you saw a rat...
Psychic_Llamas Nov 29, 2007, 12:00 AM (nice narration Nikis :D exactly how i would have acted in that sistuation ;) )
Mryddyn, still in owl form, is surprised by the suddeness of the spell the pale elf cast and flinches back a bit, but catches himself before the Owls instinct to fly away overtakes him. he swoops down off his perch to circle the manor again, peering through the windows. he is careful not to let the archers on the roof spot him, incase they are board and want to shoot something for the fun of it. he flys to a tree near the front of the manor and observes the guards patrol routs for a while, memorising the pattern of their march.
(can DM tell me what else i see in the house and show a patrol route of the guards?)
finally, having seen enough, he decides to fly off and just dwell in the wonders of the night for a short time, maybe also grab a little something to eat... like that tasty rat running across the rooftops...
...Eventually Mryddyn flys back to the inn, and through the window to his room which he left slightly open. he transforms back into his natural form and gets dressed. he quickly jots down the map of the manor that he memorised and puts in the positions and patrol routes of the guards, which he pockets.. he then goes looking for Munak, who picked up his belongings when he flew off (i hope she dropped my belongings off in my room... if she did ill put them on instead of new clothes.) [Thinking]
"i really must tell the others what i saw, that elf servent is actually a sorcerer... perhaps he was the one who affected those darts on the ship... he seems like a much bigger threat than i last would have guessed... he was a svartalfar elf too, perhaps he is a follower of Esus, that would explain his sudden disapearance, he must have turned invisible, or he teleported himself somewhere, but thats more in line of dimensional magic. im going to have to talk to Tsanal about what can be acheived with dimensional magic, i want to know what were up against... where is everyone? ..."
ooc: do we know that Mipe worships Esus? if i do im going to ask him about his god, and also about the kinds of powers we could be up against.
Bad Player Nov 29, 2007, 01:10 AM What do I do? Can I try and find clues about this OO cult and gain favour with the Order?
I'd like to stake out Corvanes firstly and maybe if not that, try staking out the docks (especially fishing boats).
Psychic_Llamas Nov 29, 2007, 01:19 AM ooc: Ive translated kenken's translation of Nikis's map :p here it is:

zxcvbnm Nov 29, 2007, 02:48 AM [You learnt all posted in public about each other's PCs]
Maniac Nov 29, 2007, 06:31 AM I'll make use of Mryddyn's absence to go unnoticed to the inn my uncle mentioned.
zxcvbnm Nov 29, 2007, 06:46 AM Mipe's questinons don't seem to have an effect on Shanna.
"How can I pay for your training if I don't learn to steal well? I'm not desperate enough for the other ways. And if I were a Bannor agent why would they have my fingers cut, and why would I need to make you commit a crime? I know already that you are one so suppose I have all they need to get you in trouble..."
Munak sneaks to the inn, carefully avoiding any patrols. The travel of not much more than half a mile takes an hour but that's a price she is more than willing to pay for secrecy.
mipe Nov 29, 2007, 06:51 AM "sorry, but we need to continue the lessons other day." mipe says and jumps back to inn, where he sees that others have been here for a while: "did I miss anything? I was... sort of kidnapped and couldn't get back here"
ooc: you dont know that im worshipping esus, you can always ask...
zxcvbnm Nov 29, 2007, 06:53 AM Before Mipe gets away he hears Shanna saying:"so you prefer getting caught tomorrow to teaching another thief today?"
Psychic_Llamas Nov 29, 2007, 07:27 AM "ah finally, someone else is here. Listen, Mipe, i was just scouting around Corvanes manor, and whilst i was on a roof across from one of his big bay windows i saw the svartalfar elf that was supposedly corvanes servent browsing a large old tomb, he waved his arms and vanished! i saw you doing something similar down at the ship, and i was wondering if you have any idea of what manner of magic this elf is using... ive hears that Esus can grant such powers, but i have never seen them being used before. its either that or dimensional or shadow magic. i juat want to know what were facing here... come to think of it i never heard you speak of your brand of magic, may i ask what you specialise in?"
After a pause, Mryddyn grins broadly, and says in a very casual way:
"Oh, and while im thinking about it, who was your 'girl friend' on the roof? i saw you having a nice littel chat when i flew to Corvanes's" he ends this with a wink, and a playful nudge with the elbow ;)
ooc: i hope my prying dosnt result in me getting on the bad side of Mipe, like poor Tsanal :(
Kjaaly Nov 29, 2007, 08:08 AM Tsanal, hearing Mipe and Mryddyn (I was in my room, remember?), opens his door and says: "Perhaps I can help with identifying the magic. Please describe to me exactly what he did, and how he disappeared. My guess is that he was using either Shadow, Dimensional, or Enchantment. The most probable is Dimensional, since there is no reason to turn invisible when noone is watching you. If, that is, you aren't planning to do something not completely legal."
[DMs, can you please decide if my char is skilled enough to identify the magic?]
Maniac Nov 29, 2007, 09:39 AM . .. .. .. .. .Munak walks around the manor where they had been given the job to guard the vessel.
(I thought about revisiting my uncle, but I assumed that wouldn't really fit with the story of me only having access to limited equipment at the start of this thread)
Can I make a short flashback in time and tell my uncle about my exiting adventures on the ship? And ask what he thinks about helping the Bannor destroy the local Overlords cult? "My first idea was not to help the Bannor, under the assumption that the Bannor would focus on us next after the Overlords were purged. But then I discovered the Overlords are engaging in slave trade, and they raise undead people. Which is of course against everything we stand for!"
(Being a Dragon cultist of the Kuriotate kind, a civ centered around Amathaon- Angel of Fertility (Creation), I assume our cult is into all kinds of fertility/life/growth and creation-related rituals too.)
zxcvbnm Nov 29, 2007, 10:36 AM Your cult is simply about worshipping the dragons so you don't get bashed up when they take the power. But the cult is more or less against anyone who would be a threat to dragon world domination.
And yes you can be considered having told that.
Everyone is able to identify the magic spheres they can use.
mipe Nov 29, 2007, 10:53 AM "I'm specialsided on enchantment but I can use little of shadow magic. And that 'girl friend' actually sort of kidnapped me. I heard that you changed forms... Is that true? If it is, can you change other people to animals too? It would be easy way to defeat anyone who attacks you by turning them to ants.."
Kjaaly Nov 29, 2007, 11:49 AM "Sooo, it seems like we're in the same boat, so we'd better help each other. Any ideas what we're gonna do?"
OOC:
[Mipe: How the hell can you have enchantment when you're a disciple of Esus? Unless you're tricking us of course....
Zxcvbnm: Could I please get told what I identify it as then? I may be a geek, but I don't have any knowledge of dimensional/enchantment/shadow magic. You don't encounter it often in the real world  ."]
thomas.berubeg Nov 29, 2007, 02:31 PM I wandered the town, and overheard some merchants, angry at still being stuck in this town. they have a commision to carry something from an elf to the amurite lands.
i think this may be a good lead to follow. as soon as we leave this town, we should go to the amurites...
kenken244 Nov 29, 2007, 04:25 PM Hearing Mryddyn's story Ken says this:
"That elf was pale, so she probobly is a stalavatafar (Is that even possible to spell?) elf. From what i Hear, those elves specialize in shadow magic. Chances are he is about to do something that he does not want us to see."
thomas.berubeg Nov 29, 2007, 04:52 PM like maybe contacting those merchents...
Psychic_Llamas Nov 29, 2007, 06:07 PM "i believe i could polymorth other people, but it would be much more dificult than myself, especially if i dont know them. i could probably polymorph one of you quite easily if you gave me time to study your nature, but a total stranger? i dont think i can do that... yet..."
"now that were all here, (im assuming were all back from our adventures) we need to act fast. Munak, can you give me back my belongings? i droped them when i transformed. i especially need those gloves... i think we need to formulate a plan where we can follow this svartalfar elf without being seen, id like to see where he goes, and if what Thomas says is true, there might be something more to this cult than just in Paradera. Also, i think some of us should try get into Corvanes house and see if there is anything suspicious, which will identify him as working with the cult. i made this map of Corvanes manor while i spyed, there are lots of guards, and some archers on the roof, so it looks like he's expecting trouble. i also mapped out the guards patrol routes." (DM, can we have a map of Corvanes manor now? with guard patrol routes ;) )
Nikis-Knight Nov 29, 2007, 06:58 PM Can I make a short flashback in time and tell my uncle about my exiting adventures on the ship? Flashbacks are fine, people post at different times so being strictly linear in what happens when isn't neccessary.
(Being a Dragon cultist of the Kuriotate kind, a civ centered around Amathaon- Angel of Fertility (Creation), I assume our cult is into all kinds of fertility/life/growth and creation-related rituals too.)Please be vague regarding any fertility rituals ;)
thomas.berubeg Nov 29, 2007, 07:00 PM let's see this map, then... see if there's anything we can use to our advantage if we try to get in.
Nikis-Knight Nov 29, 2007, 07:08 PM Could I please get told what I identify it as then? I may be a geek, but I don't have any knowledge of dimensional/enchantment/shadow magic. You don't encounter it often in the real world
From Mryddyn's description, you recognize the sign of the stars. An instructor once showed you the Sheaim signs of power, which they use to aid their spell casting. The sign of the stars is an advanced dimensional technique, in fact rather experimental last you heard.
Your Amurite instructor told you so you would be able to recognize them, but general practice is to avoid using these tools, as there is strong suspicion that they have unpredictable side effects.
"now that were all here, (im assuming were all back from our adventures) we need to act fast. Munak, can you give me back my belongings? i droped them when i transformed. i especially need those gloves... Not to mention your pants!

could he theoretically summon demons to help us?
kenken244 Nov 29, 2007, 07:28 PM Probably not, but I could;)
Bad Player Nov 29, 2007, 07:41 PM So did I discover anything about the OO overnight?
Bad Player Nov 29, 2007, 07:43 PM Probably not, but I could;)
What kind of devilry are you into?
kenken244 Nov 29, 2007, 08:12 PM "I said I could but I never said I would."
Psychic_Llamas Nov 29, 2007, 08:27 PM Not to mention your pants!
ooc: Hey, i dont only have one set of clothes, i did mention getting dressed after i became me again :p
"ah, so this svartalfar elf, is using advanced dimensional magic... thats probably who made that dart hit hit someones leg, i remember Tsanal tried to teleport a knife at the sorcerer on the waves, but it wasnt strong enough and made it wobble."
Nikis-Knight Nov 29, 2007, 08:47 PM could he theoretically summon demons to help us?Bear in mind that was the description of what Corvanes' Elven henchman was doing, not Mryddyn. Not enough information to know his powers, and it remains to be seen (though doesn't look likely) that he wants to help you.
Nindoro's observations are in the spoiler; you can look, but other characters don't know until he tells you.
Nindoro meanwhile has been lurking around the manor, doing recon on his own. Nothing interesting for sometime, a few visitors but none you recognize or who stand out. An owl hoots nearby, reminding you that it is getting late, and you are hungry. You are about to give up and leave to meet the others when an old man bangs on the gate. A guard comes up to push him away.
The old man looks at the guard, and you catch a crazed gleam in his eye. "Be gone, fool, I come for your master. Do not anger me."
The guard snorts, but retreats to the house door. Shortly there after Corvanes comes out. The two have a quick whispered conversation, until the old man yells, "I've warned you! I represent the gods of our ancestors, in whose hands rest the waves and the tides! I will not be intimidated by you, and this trespass will not be forgotten. Your plans will fail and I shall see you bow before the deep ones!" The old man turns west and marches down the road, oblivious to the stares of the passerbys. When you look back, Corvanes is also gone, the door of the house closing.
Psychic_Llamas Nov 29, 2007, 08:58 PM @ DM: did that occure after mryddyn left? the owl hooting implies that i was there, but was that hoot my surprise at the elf casting magic, and me flying off?
Nikis-Knight Nov 29, 2007, 09:11 PM Psychic Llamas: Yes
Can I make a short flashback in time and tell my uncle about my exiting adventures on the ship? And ask what he thinks about helping the Bannor destroy the local Overlords cult? [tab]"Bah, foolish girl. You've grown soft, just like your old man, living in the land of the boy king and his riches. What we stand for is the primal roar, placating the unfathomable beast." He babbles on a little more, sounding not wholly unlike what you've heard of the Overlord's religion. It seems your Uncle's brand of Dragon Worship has evolved a bit to fit the Lanun whom he converts.
"I'll see you tonight, little Munak."
That evening,
[tab]Munak sneaks to the inn, carefully avoiding any patrols. The travel of not much more than half a mile takes an hour but that's a price she is more than willing to pay for secrecy.
[tab]Your Uncle meets you behind the Inn. A group of about twenty men and boys, with a few other woman, are gathered around. A bonfire is lit as you arrive, and everyone grabs a torch. Haral smiles when he sees you. "Ah, I knew you'd come! I'd like you to meet Arish, a new initiate." He introduces you to a young man with long hair and eyse of two different colors, one brown and one blue.
Arish smiles. "Our collegue from fair Kurias. A pleasure to have you join our brave efforts tonight."
"This attack was Arish's plan," Haral interjects. "Now come, the patrols should have just passed north. We can hurry and destroy the progress they have made. The fires will be seen by the courthouse--the Bannor shall know no laws can bind those with the passion of the Ancients!"
mipe Nov 29, 2007, 11:26 PM "Am I the only one who wants to go see if there is a new slaveship in port..? Some of us should probably go check the port if there is new slave ships..."
ooc: Kjaaly, remember: Esus is also god of deception :) you should never NEV... ALWAYS trust me on everything :)
Maniac Nov 30, 2007, 12:00 AM Your cult is simply about worshipping the dragons so you don't get bashed up when they take the power. But the cult is more or less against anyone who would be a threat to dragon world domination.
And yes you can be considered having told that.
Just checking, is that my uncle's opinion, or DM Decree? (From your post I get the opinion DM decree, from Nikis-Knight's post the opnion it's my uncle's opinion) IIRC Kael said that in his D&D games the religions weren't as strict as in the game, there being many more than in the game and even religions that worship gods that don't happen to exist (such as the Dragon Cult in a way) or religions that worshipped some god but gave it another name. So I'd assume in different regions there would also be different varieties of the same religion.
In the context of an agricultural society as I was born in, where the crops growing and getting many children is most important for peasants, it would make sense for the local religion to give a strong importance to growth and fertility - common in many real-life ancient religions - which fortunately also fits with the Kuriotates having Creation mana as their most important mana type.

"May the fire remind us of the dragon's breath!"
Kjaaly Nov 30, 2007, 06:41 AM [I wont be online for the next few days, so please don't do too much where I need to respond quickly.]
"But how can an elf know Sheaim Magic? I agree with Thomas, we must go back to my people. Now, Mipe, I know that you aren't that interested in knowledge or the greater good, but we Amurites are also skilled enchanters, so the reward should be good. Mryddyn, this may help a lot of people, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you also showed a bit interest in the arcane? You should be able to obtain some knowledge there.
Ken, I don't know how I can motivate you, but it is your homeland too, and we could both use more training, a thing which should be easy to find there. Perhaps we will even be able to take the trial in the Cave of Ancestors."
"Tell me once you're ready, I will be in the library, studying a bit. Oh, and have any of you seen Munak? I hope she haven't run into troubles..."
Psychic_Llamas Nov 30, 2007, 07:08 AM "yes ,Tsanal, we should, but only after we find out what is going on here. I am quite fascinated with how you Amurites work Mana, it would be very interesting to visit your homeland, there is no need to try convince me (he smiles broadly) i am already there..."
then his smile fades as he wonder aloud:
"yes, where has Munak gotten to, i havent seen her all day, and we're supposed to be hunting down this Cult, not lounging around here. I wonder if we should look for her... what if she's been captured by the Cult?"
Also, on a side note:
"Tsanal, do you think you could enchant my clothes and belongings to transform along with my body (including my belt and seeds etc)? i wouldnt feel like my belonging dropping to the ground or ripping if i need to polymorph in a hurry, like if we're in the middle off a fight."
Also, would you like someone to RP for you while you're gone? a DM or someone?
Kjaaly Nov 30, 2007, 08:20 AM [OOC: Nah, I'll just follow you guys, and when fighting, I'll use Death and Mind for attack, Dimensional for Moving, and you can request enchantments, which I'll try to do.]
Tsanal tries to enchant Mryddyns clothes.
"I'm going to the library, I'll be there if you need me."
Nikis-Knight Nov 30, 2007, 08:58 AM "But how can an elf know Sheaim Magic?(Sheaim aren't a specific race, but a culture that draws all sorts of na'er-do-wells.
zxcvbnm Nov 30, 2007, 10:44 AM [Kjaaly: if you are still here, tell whether you want to be inactive, played by DM or backup]
[all others who know they will be away for some time any time please answer that question beforehand]
is that my uncle's opinion, or DM Decree?
It is your uncle's opinion certainly but any religion is against those who are against it, more or less
(meaning that they don't like anti-CotD people)
Maniac Nov 30, 2007, 10:47 AM I was more wondering about the sentence that my cult is simply about worshipping the dragons so I don't get bashed up when they take the power. :(
zxcvbnm Nov 30, 2007, 11:05 AM The idea of the CotD is that the people worship dragons and want them to get the power so they would be rewarded. So they believe that they will one day come to power. Thus they keep worshipping them because they don't want the dragons to be angry for them *when* they get the power.
Was this unclear enough?
Nikis-Knight Nov 30, 2007, 06:55 PM Though since it is a cult, it isn't centralized, and beliefs and practices can vary between areas. If you want your Kuriotate branch to be more peaceful, that's fine, but everyone you run into won't neccessarily agree. Please feel free to embellish details, though in general most CotD cults will be as zxcvbnm described.
Psychic_Llamas Dec 01, 2007, 03:41 AM @ DM, did Tsanal succeed in enchnating my clothes? hows that map of Corvanes's manor comming ;)
zxcvbnm Dec 01, 2007, 05:41 AM Tsanal succeeded in enchanting Mryddyn's clothes to stick, however his items won't stick when polymorphing.
mipe Dec 01, 2007, 06:48 AM "hmh... maybe I should go to the manor too, and atleast try to sneak in and look around?"
Psychic_Llamas Dec 01, 2007, 07:23 AM "Do you mind if i come with you Mipe? Ill be able to go in as a cat. Cats can be just as quite and stealthy as any spy or theif. ill have to get you to hold onto my belongings though (seed belt and gloves). and if theres trouble i can turn into my normal form and you can pass me my equipment. or if theres no time into my bear form."
if Mipe agrees, ill polymorph into my cat form and follow him to Corvanes manor. when were there, ill jump up onto the wall (i assume there is a wall surrounding the manor) and watch the guards for a bit, then ill go back to Mipe and draw a map into the sand with my claw so he knows where the guards are. he can then climb in and we can both sneak to one of the areas without a strong guard presence.
(my cat form has got pitch black fur like my hair and its eyes are the same as mine, but with feline pupils, i forgot to mention that all animals i turn into have the same eyes and hair/fur/feather colour as i have)
