I have open borders with 6 nations, 2 of which I am connected to via water, as I see the "3 golden arrow" symbol beside their names. However, I go to the city screens and see only domestic trade routes, no routes/coinage from other civ's cities.

Can anyone tell me why this would be?

There's a civic that disallows foreign trade routes, isn't there?

If they or you are running mercantilism then there will not be any trade. But it would have to be all of them running it. If your cities were really small then it could be that no one wants to trade with them. I don't really think that is possible though as your capital should be better than 75% of the AI cities.

I don't have mercantilism. I don't think I'm even at the point where I could get mercantilism if I wanted it, and I am ahead of all civs, but one, in research. It's been like this for many turns.

I thought maybe the 2 civs I can trade with decided to trade with other civs. I'm up to about 8 cities now, including a few I've captured, and still no foreign routes. Odd, cuz I've had foreign routes in other games.

Do you have Astronomy?
Are there road connections to those other civs?
Do you have an open border agreement with the neighbouring civ(s)? That could block trade routes without Astronomy to far away civs which you have open borders with.

One of the civs I'm connected to (via ocean) is the Greeks. I had open borders with them and I don't believe there are any other civs between us. They just declared war on me though (Alexander), so I can kiss those routes goodbye. :)

You need astronomy to get trade routes above ocean.

I think he means that he got trade along the coast to the other Civs, and you only need Sailing for that... But I must say that I can't seem to fint out whats wrong with you trade routes, sorry mate! :(
