After not trying for awhile I recently decided to give civ iv another shot. I have a Dell 4600
2.8 processor
1.5 gigs ram
128 6600GT video card
Sound Blaster Audigy SE - sound card

This seems like it should be plenty to run this game and yet I can't
I have the newest patch and uprgraded video drivers.

Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Andy

Good point.

Well what I've gotten so far; very early in the game (less than 3 turns) the cursor will freeze on the screen and the game locks up. Ctrl, Alt, Del does not help. Only way to get out is to power off the computer.

I assume that its Civ4 you are speaking about and not an expansion.
try this:
open my games\sid meier's civilization 4\civilizationIV.ini
set everything with log in its name to 1
set hydepythonexceptions to 0
start the game, play until it freezes, kill the game any way possible (including restart if necessary).
post the contents of my games\sid meier's civilization 4\logs as a zip file - maybe the log tells us something about the cause :)

Thanks ori,

Your suggestion seemed to help. I had no problem playing til about 1000 BC. So far so good!

I am always amazed at how people report that enabling the log helps even a bit - it should not it should only tell you whats wrong...
but if this is an undocumented feature of logging - that it helps with crashes so be it :)
If it does crash at some point please post the log files :)

Well I had Civ crash on me again twice today. I was trying to use the Map Editor on the Planet scenario. What log files would be helpful? If I'm looking in the right place I see 11.

could you post all? most interesting are init.log and pythonerr.log though :)
