View Full Version : Warlords: works, but painfully slow. Why?

Just installed Warlords. It works, but it's painfully slow. Units stroll from square to square. Move the cursor, and the screen thinks about it for a moment or two before scrolling. I'd say it's about half as fast as vanilla (which I've been running on this same computer since forever).

The computer is an IBM T43 Thinkpad with a 1.73 GHz Pentium and 512 MB of RAM. That's well above the minimum requirement and pretty close to the recommended (1.8 GHz and 512 MB). I've run vanilla on this machine for over a year with no problem.

What can I do to make it faster? Because right now it's just not much fun.

Thanks in advance,

Waldo

I dont know but would also like to make a point along the same lines. I have found that playing on a large or huge world is impossible because the game slows down so badly about half way through.
Theres nothing wrong with my PC because I have run graphicly intensive games like Rome total war no problem. So what exactly is causing this slowdown???

Neal

Civ4 is EXTREMELY memory intensive and not very good at cleaning up after itself. Even in unmodded games on large and huge maps it can easily use close to the limit of 2 GB allowed by windows for any application. If you only have 512 MB of memory this will be the bottleneck since it pages out everything to the pagefile which by default won't exceed 1024 MB in your case anyway so that this gets written full as well and then Windows starts juggling information which slows down everything... You can try increasing the size of your page file and decreasing some memory intensive stuff in the game, like installing the static leaderheads and movies pack from this site...
