View Full Version : Doviello
thomas.berubeg Dec 06, 2007, 04:06 PM Sorry for this slurry of Background threads, but i have another question:
What are the basic beliefs of the various civs before they get assimilated into one of the big religions?
(i'm asking because i am writing up a NOTW, and some of the character might be influenced by their mythology)
for example:
Orcs and Goblins are devoted to Bhall. are there any specific rituals or actions that they could use?
Doviello: i'm assuming they are divided into different clans, and have animal totems, believing their totems to able to infuse them with power? (or am i going out on the wrong limb here?)
i'll add more as i think of them...
Kael Dec 06, 2007, 05:50 PM The Doviello are most liekly to venerate Camulos. From the Religion thread:
Camulos- Angel of War (Chaos). Those that venerate Camulos don't comply to any organizational structure that anyone can understand. There are hundreds of factions and they are just as likely to fight each other as they are to fight other groups.
thomas.berubeg Dec 06, 2007, 07:35 PM thanks :)

Where is the religion thread? Thanks.

White Elk Dec 07, 2007, 06:42 PM What are the basic beliefs of the various civs... From the Religion thread:Where is the religion thread? Thanks. Here is yet another reason to have a stickied references thread. There is alot of info regarding the world of Erebus, as well as a few mini-mods and maps scattered around this forum. I think it would be helpful if we had a thread for which the first couple posts could be updated to provide links to these resources. A neat and tidy, efficient and useful, one stop shop.
lol or maybe just a working Wiki would do.
Kol.7 Dec 08, 2007, 03:11 AM Yeah that's a good idea. There's so much interesting stuff about Erebus and it's history but you can never actually find anything.
marioflag Dec 08, 2007, 07:21 AM I subscribe the Religion Thread should be stickied.
Broken Hawk Dec 08, 2007, 09:32 AM I'll go through it and put the info in the wiki. How about that?
White Elk Dec 08, 2007, 10:05 AM That would be helpful but a number of us here cannot access the wiki. I had thought of going back through the all the old threads and putting a link thread together. But if its not stickied it wouldn't help near as much. Also I came into the game after Fire and think I may confuse some of the versions.
Nikis-Knight Dec 08, 2007, 10:15 AM But if its not stickied it wouldn't help near as much. You can always put a link in your sig so it is easy to find.

Nikis-Knight has a great idea especially since I just discovered I can't access the wiki. How long has this been going on? Is anyone working on it?
White Elk Dec 08, 2007, 03:03 PM A sig link would definitely justify the work a little more and some people would be helped by it. But I for one am such an infrequently active poster that it wouldn't help near as much as a sticky would. But I do understand there needs to be limits to stickied threads. I'm just thinking that with the volume of posts asking about background info on Erebus, and requesting links to mod-mods and maps that there are alot of people missing out on things they would enjoy if only they had better access to it.
I and some others have had problems accessing the wiki even when other posters could use it. Then from time to time it seems to be down for everyone. Its a shame since its such a great resource.
Kol.7 Dec 08, 2007, 03:27 PM Yeah, the wiki is constantly down for me. Does anyone know how to fix it?
Nikis-Knight Dec 08, 2007, 03:46 PM To be honest, I think a thread linking old posts would be doomed to frustration anyway; only so many old threads are kept by the board, some old ones have been lost and more will at the rate of posting in this forum. It wouldn't be much more work cut-and-pasting to a word document, though, that could be saved to someone's hard drive.
Broken Hawk Dec 08, 2007, 04:21 PM I'm willing to collect info in a Word doc for a "History of Erebus" but then what do we do with it? It would be great if the wiki worked.
White Elk Dec 08, 2007, 05:55 PM What do you mean by 'lost' Nikis? I can still find my first posts made nearly 5 years ago. As far as I know no threads disappear. Depending on your "Thread Display" settings, you will not be seeing threads made after a certain date. They are still there though. I've set mine to "Show all threads". The settings range from "last day" to "show all". I don't know what the forum default is. This setting is located in.. My Account/ Edit Options/ Thread Display Options/ Default Thread Age Cut Off.
This is another reason why a link thread would be useful. Some posters
may not realize that there are threads beyond what they may see.
White Elk Dec 08, 2007, 05:58 PM I'm willing to collect info in a Word doc for a "History of Erebus" but then what do we do with it? It would be great if the wiki worked. You could post it in its own thread here and then we can sig link to it for now. And when/if the wiki gets running consistent it will be ready for posting there. And perhaps the "History of Erebus" could be posted on the FfH web site (http://kael.civfanatics.net/)?
Nikis-Knight Dec 08, 2007, 06:03 PM uh-huh. Well, Thanks for that, now I see all strata of the archeological history of the FfH forum ;)
White Elk Dec 08, 2007, 06:06 PM hehe perhaps looking at some of FfH's original threads will bring back some cool memories for you :)
Looking back, its hard to believe you guys have done so much in such a short time.
White Elk Dec 08, 2007, 08:09 PM I didn't realize that this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=171398) existed in the Civ4 Modpacks forum. Something like that here in this forum might be ideal. It contains info on the world of Erebus including its history, the people, their religions, and their magic. In addition there are some links to fan created mods and scenarios for earlier versions. And there are some answers to a couple frequently asked questions. And of course there are links to download the current version of the mod. And more...
Perhaps a comprehensive welcome and reference thread like that one would be a good thing here? Not only would it help people, but it would also cut down on forum clutter by decreasing the amount of duplicate question posts. And it would save some CFC resources by cutting down on excessive page loads as people search for their answers and look for maps and scenarios. One knowledgeable and motivated FfH fan could save the collective FfH community a great deal of time. And as a bonus CFC would perhaps be saved a little bandwidth?

Feel free to use my research efforts (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=246382).
Broken Hawk Dec 09, 2007, 09:30 AM That is some great material.
White Elk Dec 09, 2007, 10:26 AM Very nice, thank you vorshlumpf. I hadn't realized that you'd updated that
thread with all that info. I enjoy immersing myself in the world of Erebus.

Since I've helped to threadjack this thread I should share a wish I have about the Doviello. I wish they rode bear back instead of horse back. I think it would fit their history and style. Perhaps its a little corny, but it would make them more menacing. As to mechanics perhaps their mounted units should have reduced movement but increased strength. And maybe they could gain mounts by defeating bears like the Clan does with its wolf riders.

the funny thing is, AA and me once even created a bear rider unit for doviello, bu now they ride bisons ;)
zxcvbnm Dec 09, 2007, 10:55 AM How about both bears and bisons?
White Elk Dec 09, 2007, 12:34 PM http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b318/WhiteElk/DovielloMounts.jpg
Or perhaps Elk, Bear, Bison and Mammoths?
Keep Horsemen as is since the model is so awesome! But the Doviello don't have a unique Horse Archer and the default one looks out of place for a breed of horse which would survive in Doviello lands. I think an Elk Archer would make a good replacement. The elk is a massive beast with a formidable set of antlers. I see the elk as being able to keep enemies at bay, affording the rider time to use a shortbow to great effect. Bear Riders could replace Chariots, with a mighty grizzly taking the place of the War Chariot. Bison Riders could remain as a Knight replacement. And Mammoth Riders could naturally replace the War Elephant.
Speaking of War Elephants.. I haven't trained any for many versions now. So when I WB'd this unit for the screenshot I was surprised to see the rider falling off his mount. I exited WB and ended the turn and the rider was still in that pose. Is this the way it looks in game?

Broken Hawk Dec 09, 2007, 02:50 PM The more unique units for the Doviello the better. I think of them as the Vikings of FfH. Anything along that theme would be great.

You're welcome. I keep updating it as I find new things or new things are posted by Kael. I'd appreciate it if anyone let me know of stuff that is missing.
Perhaps I should sig it...

Look at the spears on the other side... he's using himself as a charging weapon in completely plausible doviello-style
