View Full Version : How do I override the pathfinder?

I'm sure this has nothing to do with FFH, but here I am so I thought I'd ask. How do I get units to move the way I want them to rather than the way the pathfinder decides to go? For example, I have unit with a move of 2 positioned on a forest/hill next to a city I want to attack. Next to the forest/hill is a plains with a road. Though I would much prefer to stay on the forest/hill after my attack, the game inevitably moves my unit to the plains before attacking, using up my moves and leaving my unit exposed to counterattack with no prospect for withdrawal. How can I attack directly? (Arrow keys don't work.)

And how the hell could they not have fixed this yet?

Wierd, I am going to assume you have Commando and the city is on a hill, that is why it prefers to move onto the plains/road first, because that means you will spend 1 Move to get on the road/plains, and then 1/2 (or 1/3) move to get into the city. But of course, this is an attack, so that means it still costs you a full move point.

Normally, you can override the movement by holding SHIFT while you right click on a tile, thus establishing a set order of how you will move. But since you are moving a single tile in this case... I do not know if it is possible to override (try Shift + Click anyway, see how it goes I guess). If nothing works... just bring a worker with you and build a road on the hill you want to attack from. (personally, if my army has Commando, I always bring 3 workers so I can lay down roads as I move)

It's even worse if you're attacking from a ship...

Alternatively, you could pillage said road, but that would leave you exposed on that tile for a turn, anyway.

or use the numpad to move there

That gives you the same result (astonishingly enough).
