View Full Version : Screenshots from My Uber-Raging Barbs Game
vorshlumpf Dec 09, 2007, 12:16 AM I set up a game so that barbarians actually had an even chance against the 'civilized' folks. I.e., no bonuses against barbs, not even for the AI. I even upped the spawn rate of barbs and their cities.
The one thing I did do, for the sake of the AI, was give a +100% bonus against barbs when they were attacking your city. I hoped this would be enough to keep the AI civs in the game. It wasn't, and I got a conquest victory at turn 1193 (the only remaining AI was my vassal).
Anyway, this is not a report, but I just wanted to share some screen shots.
I didn't once go to war with an AI. These kills are all Barbarian.

I continued the game to see if I could save my vassal. My troops arrived by ship, and not a moment too soon.

Sarisin Dec 09, 2007, 02:08 AM I almost always use the raging barb option, so I enjoyed seeing your screenshots. Thank you for posting.
In my experience, raging barb/AggAI game on land maps at the slower speeds always seem to end up as Conquest victories. The AI tries their usual expansion, don't bother defending strategy and systematically gets wiped out with you maybe having to do a little mopping up while continuing to defend.
I'm curious if you use the Labruscum setting in your raging barb games, and if so, what you are seeing.
Thanks.
Farmer Bobathan Dec 09, 2007, 02:36 AM what map script did you use? that map looks like it'd be fun to play on.:D
Kol.7 Dec 09, 2007, 03:10 AM It's Nikis-Knights map isn't it. It's a great map, you should try it...
vorshlumpf Dec 09, 2007, 04:46 AM Yup, Nikis-Knight's map. It's the only one I use right now. I'm hoping that he'll release an updated version as soon as Shadow is ready *crosses fingers*

Yeah. The barbarians have a setting to force them to defend cities with a certain number of units (defaults to 2, I think). It would be nice if the AI had one of those. But then there is the issue of them sending out settlers with only one or two defenders...

No, didn't use that setting. But I did use Wildlands. My first time building the Grand Menagerie, incidentally.

Oh... i've played on the map before i just didn't recognize it:lol:
Nikis-Knight Dec 09, 2007, 02:55 PM Yup, Nikis-Knight's map. It's the only one I use right now. I'm hoping that he'll release an updated version as soon as Shadow is ready *crosses fingers*Certainly, since current version wouldn't work with it, due to civics changes. Anything else bothering you while I'm at it? I know somewhere there is a forest on the coast
Caradoc Dec 09, 2007, 09:30 PM I use the 'Full of Resources' script made by Sto. It has an option for placing as many barbs as you want on the map, including plenty of Spiders and even some Hill Giants.
westamastaflash Dec 09, 2007, 10:14 PM How do you EVER finish a game? I always end up with a crash after ~ turn 300 on nikis-knight's map. I've got 2 gigs of ram and a 2.4ghz core2... so frustrating...
vorshlumpf Dec 09, 2007, 10:36 PM I suppose I'm lucky.
AMD Athlon 64 Processor (3500+)
2.21 GHz
2.00 GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 7800GT
That's nothing major, as far as I know. But I keep my computer pretty clean - I frequently disable processes that auto-start (take that, Microsoft!). Have you heard of a program called FreeRAM XP Pro? I use it to monitor my RAM use - I'm usually between 1500 and 1600 MB whenever I start up Civ IV.
Civkid1991 Dec 09, 2007, 11:57 PM Certainly, since current version wouldn't work with it, due to civics changes. Anything else bothering you while I'm at it? I know somewhere there is a forest on the coast
oh yea thats the coolest... even though it doesnt do much would be cool to keep for the looks :D

Actually, it gives a coastal tile an extra production point. For FoL, eventually an extra food, too.
jan030 Dec 10, 2007, 03:09 AM Just on question, i see you have the golden forest. I have it too, but i cant seem to put it in the right place. Where do i put it?? Sorry for asking, its not your creation but ut does seem to work with you ;-)
vorshlumpf Dec 10, 2007, 09:42 AM To tell you the truth, I don't remember. I just followed the directions in the thread that supplied the file.
PenguinInTux Dec 10, 2007, 02:49 PM What do you do to get uber-raging barbs? What do you have to modify?
vorshlumpf Dec 10, 2007, 02:57 PM Off the top of my head (I'm at work), the Handicap XML file is one. Barbarian spawn rates are elsewhere (Global Config?), I think.
If you want, I can post the changes when I get home.
