Hello, I'm new to these forums, and relatively new to Civilization IV (late bloomer I know). The mathematics and analysis behind building a city boggles the mind a little, but I think I might be able to get it in time.

Anyways, I was wondering if there were any tips regarding creating new cities. It's a bother having to link young cities with mature ones, especially over long distances. Yet, most of the time, the new cities are on the borders of rival civilizations, and they need massive military support along those borders.

Is there any optimal distance between cities, to maximise worker efficiency and troop movement?
