Welcome to your C_IV Warlords SGOTM 6 Team Thread. Please use it for all internal team communication, turn logs and discussions. Subscribe to it to receive notifications, and do not visit the other team threads for this game until you have finished. The Game

Gyathaar is playing this one close to his chest. Here's all the intelligence I've been able to wring out of him:


Prince difficulty
Epic speed
You play as the Charismatic, Protective Churchill of the English Empire.
You start with Fishing and Mining.
Your unique unit is the Redcoat, replacing the Rifleman.
Your Unique building is the Stock Exchange, replacing the Bank.
The map is a highly modified Cylindrical Big And Small map, using the BtS map script. It is Standard, Temperate, Medium sea level.
Always war. All VCs are enabled. I think the barbs are at default setting.

Versions
This game will be played in Warlords Version 2.13, on Windows only, with the DLLs as installed with BtS.

It will be played using the current version of the HoF Mod. This is version 2.13.002 for Windows. You will need to ensure that you can run the Asset Checker v2 before you attempt to load this game. Typlically, players who have upgraded to Beyond the Sword will have the right assets. Alternatively, you should be able to make your installation compliant by installing the new .DLLs released for WOTM 15 (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=251044). If you have a Steam installation then you will need to look at this post by ArcadicGamer for inspiration.

If later versions of Warlords or the HoF Mod are released they cannot be used for this game, and you will need to maintain a copy of your installed software at these versions to complete the game.

Timetable
The game will start on December 14th. I recommend you plan for a 4 month deadline for completion.

You will be able to download your start save from the SGOTM Progress and Results Page (http://gotm.civfanatics.net/submit/civ4sgotm_submission_list.php) on December 14th, at midnight local server time.

Notes

Please visit the Civ4 SGOTM reference thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=168439) to check out the rules and procedures to ensure that you are adequately prepared for this game.

Warlords v.2.13 is supported for this SGOTM. No other versions can be used, and you will have to stick with the same version throughout the game.

Teams will compete for up to four awards - the Gold, Silver and Bronze Laurels for the fastest finishes, and the Wooden Spoons for the lowest scoring finisher. The number of awards may be reduced, depending on the number of teams who sign up.

Awards will be given to teams who win in the least turns.

All saved game files uploaded to the server are parsed through software that extracts and archives data about your save, including reload count for each turn set.

Founded London on Dye, met Musa. Building worker, research - Agri, started AH.

Turnset 2 (12-27), Kaizer
Killed several scouts (Kaizer's strat for delaying AI scouting, making them build more scouts and less troops as our location remains unrevealed; also we are on our way to Great General), built worker, researched AH. Met Hannibal.

Turnset 3 (27-43), Grey Cardinal
Discovered BW, continued killing scouts, started Settler. We are going to pull a CS-slingshot via Oracle.

Turnset 4 (43-57), Morcar
Built settler, made some scouting.

Turnset 5 (57-72), kicks
Founded York, made improvements, discovered Myst and Poly. We avoided Medi for not to unlock Philo for GS and use it on Optics, if need arises.

Turnset 6 (72-103), Lexad
Discovered Phood, Writing, CoL, built Oracle for CS, got GS for Academy, discovered Ragnar(?)'s borders, found enemy cities.

Turnset 1 (Turns 0-12 ) Grey Cardinal
We moved the warrior SW and then discussed whether to settle in place (Lexad, kaizer, AlSK), or on Dyes (GC, Jeffa, others). The main arguments for the settling in place were no visible uncontested food in the North where we'd have to found a second gold city and nwaste of dyes - the most commercial Calendar resource; the counterargument was higher early commerce due to dye under capital fnd riverside gold and unwilingness to move 2nd city to jungle for the health sake. As the 2 of three leaders were in favor of the dye variant, I submitted, although though that we won't have high pop in jungle city soon anyway.
As it turned out after 12 turns of scouting, settling in place would've been better. We also met Musa's scout - bad.
Tech path is Agri -> AH
Buildline is worker -> warrior.

GC made next turnset, revealing Copper in the 1st radius and rice near nothern gold. The second city will go to North, we're thinking of the third. The general strat is goto fast CS via Oracle, try to get a GS for Academy and gaining technological momentum, kill them all.

Not so much happened during my 14 turns set. I made mine on copper and farm on bananas and did some scouting in North-East area, what revealed horses to us - it seems we are going to settle a city there, after completing of our's initial developing plan. An Alex's scout came from the south just to be killed a few turns later by our well promoted warrior. Concerning to science, i completed wtg :) and now it's two turns away from discovering of mysticism. Almost forgot - i built a settler for our second city, which is going to be placed between upper rice and capital's cows. Turn is going to kicks - good luck.

I'm moves 15 turn.

The Plan:
The Science: Mysticism 2 moves - a Polytheism 11 moves - a Priesthood 7 moves (go to Oracle).
Immediately on slavery.
The York city on 2 move between rice, gold and cow. The formation boat.
The production on rice before 2, the second inhabitant on gold.
The worker builds the golden mine, afterwards goes to cultivate rice.
Capital builds the library (I built the warrior 3 moves, does not like me south - a southeast), before size 4 works at cow, banana and gold 10 moves, then fourth inhabitant put on the second bananas (or copper).
The Upper warrior heals and is delayed on hill under upper cow, the second warrior sooner whole on north hill 1 move.
If and when to capital with south - a south of the orient will add the enemies, moves warrior on meeting but in capital immediately move;rearrange on construction of the warrioir.

Short that was:
2080 - Hannibal have opened the Hinduism.
2050 - Hannibal has taken the Hinduism, with south has swum up to the boat Alexander.
1990 - a worker go on rice.
1960 - London up before size 4, has puted in city on 2 bananas.
1930 - York up before size 2, has puted in city on gold mine.
1900 - On northeast barbarian appeared from upper warrioir and disappeared in mirk by following move.
1840 - A worker will finish the farm through 4 moves, Priesthood through 1 move, library in London approximately through 5 moves, boat in Yorke through 6 moves.

I made my turnset until 925BC. The goal was 1. Getting GS for Academy on Capital and 2. Getting CS from Oracle. After much discussions and estimations between GC, jeffa, me and other team members we decided to settle on Library + 2 scientists (working banana farm, cows and gold) in London and Oracle (with pop 3 and 2 chops) in York. This was done, founding Confu meanwhile.

Meanwhile York built workboat before Oracle and sent in northwards for scouting. Also warrior found Musa and glimpsed Alex's borders in the dark. Space view also showed Ragnarish-colored borders in the west which can be accessed at culture 60% by galley - but Astronomy might pop faster. Axe went harrassing Musa's territory.

Alex built Wall, someone built Henge. Alex founded and converted to Judaism.

We discovered Sailing, Calendar, Hunting.
We captured Sparta, which is holy jewish city and has ivory in its fat cross. 7 units stack is marching now towards Athens, which has two world wonders built and newborn GE. Also we had enough luck to cut all of Hanni's strategic resourses.

So far we do not see the galley way to Ragnar(?), but can see some glimpse of coast off our Northwestern border. We plan to make some more investigations (involving a galley and a chariot with sentry) to search for the galley path as we expect to kill off resistance on our home continent in 45-60 turns from now and will have to wait 30-40 turns to research Astronomy.

Also, as Athens has Pyramids, GW and Temple of Artemis, we're in a tough ride for beating it to GS (want to lightbulb Optics - haven't researched Medi to avoid Philo). I made some calculations indicating we can get ahead of Athens (in 42-43 turns) if we grow London to 8, build Granary and hire 3 scientists (and run scientists instead of copper and gold for couple of turns). Now the team should decide whether to risk getting GE (can use for Machinery) or GM/GP (~useless) in Athens or go for pure GS and then catch up with GPerson in Athens.

After capturing the Pyramids in Athens revolted to Representation. The plan is to grow GS in London ahead of uncertain GP in Athens (Pyrs+Wall+Temple of Artemis) to lightbulb the Optics - for this after tedious calculations we plan to grow London to 8 and hire even 5 scientists for a period. Also decided to build galley to loo for bridge possibility to Ragnar. Techwise beeline to Astro: MC - Machinery. Cities build cats and elephants. All went according to the plan.
War:
Decided to capture Carthage first and retain as it is a good city. Sent for this purpose 3 axes, 2 cats and elephant. Planned to capture Corinth by 2 healed cats, axe and new elephant. But rnd turned out unlucky, and I lost 2 axes on archers at 93% and 53% victory chances. However, the main task - capturing Carthage and Corinth - was accomplished. Losses - cat, elephant and axe (both lost at above 80% chances, unfortunately). Turned general into military instructor in London.

My turn set consisted of three parts.

1-st: 175ВС-100ВС
2-nd: 100ВС-25ВС
3-rd: 25ВС-50AD

The main aims were:

Concerning to science - to research all the Optics prerequisites, and prepare London for birth of GS.
Concerning to war - to finish Alex off, to capture Hadru from Hanni, destoroying Utica on the way, and to gather stack for Timbuktu capturing.
Also to try to find galley ways from our continent to others.

I killed Alex almost making no efforts, then had some troubles near Utica, where first Elephant lost his battle with over 90% to win, and second with 96% won his battle, but only with 0.2 health remaining. Because of all that i took some risk while capturing of Hadru - i hadn't any reinforncments nearby. Rest of the battles were quite successful, except for another Elephant lost his battle with 70% chance to win, but also had some pleasure moments, when suicide catapult won its battle with 44% and winning of the battles with 60-70% chances. The average per cent to win of all atacks was about 60-70. And made one unforced error, when didn't set science to 0%, while researchning compas, what led to discovering of compas one turn ahead of GS birth for Optics. Screenshot attached.

Morcar's turnset (25BC-230AD)

I lightbulbed optics, made unwanted contact with Ragnar and lost one third of our entire army attacking Musa's Djenne. On the other hand, captured Musa's capital - Timbuktu, very rich city with a lot of river tiles in its fat cross. Hadru was one step away from capturing back by Carthage, but it whitstood all their attacks, by the cost of pillaging all wines, though, and we didn't have a monarchy that time, so we couldn't restore that wine at all.

In my turnset I wanted to finish the conquest of the home continent, finish Astronomy and relocate troops for Ragnar. Accompished.

First, before making moves I reallocated least efficient tiles and specialists to merchants. All cities except London, Sparta and Athens build wealth. In fututre build barracks only in productive cities, others build cuicide cats.
The war plan is to go for Djenne, then finish off Carthage, then on the way to the west coast finish Musa in Kumbi. Raze all except Djenne (5 wood tiles, 5 commerce resources).

Game

War
Captured all cities, lost some units at 80%+ odds, but 1 cat won at 5% odds.
Built first 2 galleons and brought units to man them
Meanwhile Ragnar adopted Vassalage - but there is only 1 lbow, 2 swords and a spear in Nidaros
Discovered pale-green borders of Saladin and blue Cyrus. No contact to prevent them from war frenzy.

Other
Built Hastings on top of Iron, access to 2 golds, fish and cow.
Prechopped the wood, expanded Nottingham's borders to 40% to grab wood tiles in the last turns of Castes.
Tweaked specialists/production to get Astro 1 turn faster
After Astro revolted to Police State+Slavery
Got GE from Athens, lightbulbed 1600+ to Engineering for fast road movement
Got scout from the hut :)

Currently, looking at the puny defences of AI even with Feudalism researched, I believe we should've went as in SGOTM2 directly for Astro with 2-3 lightbulbings - elephants and catapults would've done the trick. Alas.

Accidentally met Cyrus' trireme in Uppsala
Chopped cats en masse thanx to prechopped wood (8 cats + 8 maces -> 20 cats + 13 maces)
Carthage is all red-faced - haven't rushed so far.

Waiting and thinking whether to attack Nidaros.

P.S. IMO, Ragnar looks like the median of remaining enemies per power and the least populous. The weakest must be Cyrus..

2nd 5-turn report
Attacked Nidaros with mace after removing defence bonus - only 1 longbow, no need to waste cats, victory chance ~69%. Success - Nidaros captured without losses.
At Birka lost mace using the same approach.
2 more cities razed losing 1 cat (there were 2 longs, and our maces were weak)
When treasure exceeded 500, upgraded galley to galleon to speed the things up.
Currently we're losing 26 gpt, but enemy territory will provide us enough to pillage.
Caravels are sent to reveal enemy coast, as we currently know all our enemies.

We split western attack into northern and southern fronts.
London, Nottingham and York supply the troops for the North, transported by 4 galleons from London
Athens, Sparta and Hastings supply the troops for the South, transported by 4 galleons from Athens

Managed to raze last 3 Ragnars cities at the new continent: Birka (losing 2 cats), Scythian and Teohuican.
Also managed to raze Cyrus' Ecbatane losing 2 cats.
Caravels found 3 Saladin's and 4 Cyrus' cities, including capitals.

Army of 6 maces, elephant and 3 cats moves towards Persepolis after capturing Birka
Part of Northern army moves towards Saladin's Najran/ Galleons bring desant to Mecca.

After Ecbatane part of the army will be moved by galleon to Arbela, accompanied by 2 more galleons.

To speed up the expansion decided to open the Eastern (for us) front, popped and chopped for it 3 galleons in Carthage ASAP.
The army for Eastern front was created by Hadrumetum (cats), Djenne (cats), Timbuktu (maces).
Alltogether 3 galleons, 3 maces and 6 cats set sail towards Cyrus.
