Erkon Apr 09, 2008, 12:21 PM That's the spirit morpheus11!
Edit: I got #2000! :)
Godamit! I was just about to post #2k and you snatched it in front of my eyes! That settles, it; you have just forfeited your first turns set UNLESS I get #1000 in the next thread :mad::mad:
morpheus11 - you can download the .zip and extract the files (extract.bat & extract.pl) to an empty directory. Then you copy an autolog.txt from any of your vanilla games (not all unique units and buildings are supported yet) and rename it to wotm.txt. Then you run the batch file and you get a bunch of files that contains your production, research and win/defeat units.
jesusin Apr 09, 2008, 02:27 PM As long as there are aren't any mines on top of pigs my frustrations should be minimal. I can handle 150 post before a turn is played but I can't stand not having my bacon! :D
I concurr! Wholeheartedly!
Nice to have you on the team!
Same for HOF rising star FiveAces!
Erkon Apr 12, 2008, 12:53 AM morpheus11 - it's alright for you to join the team. You won't play any turns and you won't participate in any decisions, but you are encouraged to ask us about the reasoning behind key decisions. You will be able to open the save (I think) so you have to be as careful as everyone else in the team: you must make absolutely sure you cancel any pending actions to avoid those actions when you switch between units, don't mention anything of this game outside the thread, don't link into the thread, don't read other threads etc. Please ensure you read and understood all rules for SGOTM, and don't hesitate to ask us. Keep in mind that there will be a lot of ideas floating around, and most of them will die sooner than later :-)
LowtherCastle Apr 12, 2008, 05:40 AM I'm not going to spam the SG7 sign-up thread anymore, because AlanH is starting to get dumped on by other posters, but I still see two issues with the distinction between 'official lurker' and non-playing team member. The one you raised, Erkon, about viewing the save, is not strictly an internal matter, since I guess it's AlanH who enables that. But I guess it is an internal matter insofar as AlanH will only enable that if we request it.
The other issue came up in the Awards thread of SG6 with jesusin getting credit for the Gold as a non-playing team member. I'm totally in favor of jesusin getting credit because he already competed with us and his contributions during SG6 were frequent and well-thought-out. On the other hand, I'm not sure if it makes sense to attribute the same status to what we are calling an 'official lurker.' In the Olympics, every player on the basketball team, whether they see any floor time or not, gets a medal if the team finishes in the top three. Hard-core fans (lurkers) do not get a medal. Obviously, this is nothing personal toward you, morpheus11, and I don't think you even intended to be included in medals received. The problem arises when AlanH has to decide who gets one of our Wooden Spoons. :king: How do we handle that? Do we explicitly decide in advance?
I'm not trying to be exclusive in raising this issue. In fairness to the entire SG community, I think laurels should be awarded fairly. (Except for my Grandma. I'd like to ask for an exception, because she was instrumental in my being what I am...)
Erkon Apr 12, 2008, 07:54 AM Yes, we explicitly state this in advance. morpheus11 will not receive any laurel/spoon. jesusin got his medal since he was participating in the discussion and the decision making.
It is up to AlanH to decide if everyone in the team will get access to the save, but I got the impression that he does not want any exceptions i.e. if your part of the team, you get to see the save.
LowtherCastle Apr 12, 2008, 09:05 AM It is up to AlanH to decide if everyone in the team will get access to the save, but I got the impression that he does not want any exceptions i.e. if your part of the team, you get to see the save.AlanH is planning to cancel the idea of 'official lurkers' and I'm not sure anyone has come up a with good reason not to. Since that's what morpheus11 asked for, presumably that means AlanH won't put him on the MW list. Maybe we should just wait till the 17th and see what happens. In the meantime, let's try to avoid putting AlanH in an awkward position. I prefer to let AlanH do what he thinks is best and go from there.
Come to think of it, let's not forget that we're kind of jumping the gun even talking to morpheus11 because AlanH hasn't set up the teams and in a certain way, we're kind of slighting AlanH as the Admin (inadvertantly, naturally). Of course, I think AlanH understands all this, but let's not take too much for granted. If we get assigned to MW, we'll do our best to accommodate morpheus11. Does that sound reasonable? :)
EDIT: Okay, I re-read your post again and now I realize you're inviting morpheus11 to join MW as a non-playing team member. I suppose that means he should edit/update his post in the sign-up thread.
EDIT2: Hmmm...this still confuses me a bit, because my impression is that AlanH wants a clear distinction between lurkers and team members. If morpheus11 is on the team list as a non-playing member, does that mean AlanH considers him a contributing member for the purposes of conferring awards? Okay, Erkon, you're Captain. You and AlanH figure this out. I hereby give up and shut up. (bet that makes a lot of people happy)

Hey, mind your words! That means that you shouldn't get credit, since your contributions weren't thought at all, no matter how frequently you wrote! :D
Now, seriously, thank you all for your support.

Now, seriously, thank you all for your support.I see what you mean. On the other hand, I only listed 2 of the 637 characteristics of a good teammate. I had to go pretty far down the list to find them too... :p
morpheus11 Apr 13, 2008, 10:02 AM I want to apologize for causing all this chaos. That was never my intent. Like I posted in the sign-up thread I am looking to learn from more closely watching this game unfold. I am not trying to join up just to get an award... now, if one were given to me I wouldn't complain... but that was not my intent.
I will leave this in the hands of the capable admins and Erkon to figure out what my role will be. I will be satisfied with what ever they feel is necessary for the good of the competition.
LowtherCastle Apr 15, 2008, 10:43 AM jesusin's fame continues to spread far and wide, along with the Jesusin Philosophy:I consider myself an intermediate player, and I've done reasonably well for that level in the last several XOTMs (though it looks like I screwed up BOTM 04 pretty good). Always trying to improve by finding good teachers though, and I believe in the "Jesusin philosophy" of using this site both to freely share what I know (or think I know) and to learn from everyone else. Winning would be great, but it is third priority behind (1) having fun and (2) improving my game. SGOTM looks like a great way to do that.
Bravo jesusin!
Erkon Apr 15, 2008, 12:37 PM The Welcome Message is not fully clear on the priority between (1) having fun, (2) learn and (3) win, but if it is the will of the team, I'll update the text to comply to the "Jesusin philosophy" in the next thread.
And let me take this opportunity to request the first four posts in the upcoming thread.
Erkon Apr 15, 2008, 05:29 PM The teams are announced in the sign up thread. Please check for speling errors in the list.
LowtherCastle Apr 15, 2008, 06:42 PM Learning is only fun when you win. ;) I'm going to learn and have fun no matter what. The only question is whether we'll win.
Sweetacshon Apr 16, 2008, 10:42 PM On the other hand, getting taught a lesson is rarely fun. ;)
