View Full Version : Win XP pop up removal?
sourboy Dec 15, 2007, 12:29 PM Anyone know how to remove the pop-ups in WinXP? I don't have security software installed, and don't need to be told constantly that my "system might be at risk" -- how does one shut this and other system tray icons from popping?
thanks!

stickciv Dec 15, 2007, 05:31 PM I've been wondering how to do this as well. The few things that i've tried dont really seem to work all that well..
Mulholland Dec 15, 2007, 06:06 PM I imagine windows doesn't make it easy to shut off their automatic updates, but there must be a way.
On a related note, I downloaded I-tunes some time back and realized it sucked as music manager. I removed the program and many related files such as quicklime but the bloody thing always wants to update. I really hate apple now, and I want them to leave my windows environment alone.
Wolf52 Dec 15, 2007, 11:49 PM To stop the security popups you need to go into the control panel, then go into the security center. In there it should tell you that, say, your antivirus software is not functioning. Click on the "recommendations" button, then in the box that pops up you can click on the box that says "i'll monitor this myself". Voila, no more pop ups.
kcwong Dec 16, 2007, 06:06 AM Though the pop-ups are there for a reason: You really should have the protection it suggested. Free anti-virus and firewall software are available... so why not use one to keep your system safe?
Paalikles Dec 16, 2007, 08:17 AM Cheaper to stay up to date by actually updating through MS download, than to be backwards and prone to crashes, hijacks, or whatever.

Windows still crashes even with updates. ;)

Oh, I hate that thing so very much. That alone is enough to make me hate Apple and anyone who says they are the divine light of heaven.
I think I managed to remove it by uninstalling Quicktime (I didn't have iTunes, that's what it wanted me to get). I'm not at my normal computer for another month so I can't say for sure. If that doesn't work see if there is any obvious "Apple Update" type program in the program manager and remove that. If that doesn't work, curse Steve Jobs, and then start hunting through your hard drive for apple folders which might contain the culprit.
