Use this thread to point out those and any other cosmetic issues you find in the mod. Scott Alexander Dec 15, 2007, 10:42 PM Here's your first typo already: "cosmetic". Bringa Dec 15, 2007, 11:16 PM Nah, what he means is like this emergency type of soldier who goes to war with the other marines and if in the heat of battle some mascara starts to smear, why, you call for the COSMEDIC! dwhee Dec 15, 2007, 11:21 PM I misread the title and came here expecting to laugh at some comedic issues... westamastaflash Dec 15, 2007, 11:24 PM Don't make fun of the mod creator, he may not upload the mod yet! southxii Dec 15, 2007, 11:27 PM Nah, what he means is like this emergency type of soldier who goes to war with the other marines and if in the heat of battle some mascara starts to smear, why, you call for the COSMEDIC! hilarious! why wasn't this type of unit available for vote in the unit design contest? Bringa Dec 15, 2007, 11:34 PM Cause I was in Dublin :/ Kael secretly keeps taps on my travel plans and ALWAYS times his contests so I'm not at home when they happen ;) (or maybe I travel too much) (and maybe we should stop derailing this thread before the mod is even uploaded) (I wonder if we could whip some population to finish the upload faster) westamastaflash Dec 15, 2007, 11:51 PM Nah just rush it with gold. I'm sure Kael would like that :-D mervvyn Dec 16, 2007, 01:34 AM are the faint white gridlines on hills intentional? This happens in many places in the pedia - marksman is another example, as well as Agriculture leading to the civic not the tech (or vice versa i cant remember which) princecharles Dec 16, 2007, 03:42 AM I found a few spelling errors in Perpentarch's entry, and when you first begin the game, it says, "The Age of Ice is ended and the fertile lands are newly exposed by retreating sheets of ice in the." I assume there were a few more word intended before the period. mdfairch Dec 16, 2007, 03:49 AM The info-box graphics for all of the warriors seem to be just the stock warrior image. There's a bit of an incongruity when you select a skinny, white-skinned Svartalfar warrior wielding a knife, and down in the box you see a tanned, muscular dude a club. It just doesn't gibe. marioflag Dec 16, 2007, 04:04 AM Not sure if it is an issue i'm on the early turns of my first Shadow game. On Corporation Advisor under all the names of the Guilds there is written "Wolf" which i really don't understand what does mean. It would be also the case to rename Corporation Advisor to Guilds Advisor Scott Alexander Dec 16, 2007, 04:05 AM As the leader of the Overcouncil, I'm getting a message saying "As Secretary-General of the UN, you can choose..." rusty217 Dec 16, 2007, 04:36 AM Nevermind wasnt a bug Saroumana Dec 16, 2007, 04:49 AM I really don't like this new dark terrain ,can we have an option to choose ? Falc Dec 16, 2007, 09:06 AM Little oopsie, posted this in the bug thread... "Odd that no-one's mentioned it since I've seen it in a few screenshots in this thread: the new graphics for hills and mountains have white lines going across them in a grid pattern. You can see it in Gandhi_rules's screenshot on the previous page.* Also, would it be possible to have an option that governs the mana bar width/height. All things considered I think I'd prefer a single vertical bar instead of the block, but I can imagine others having other preferences. So some modularity would be nice." * That would be page 3 of the bug thread Falc Dec 16, 2007, 09:22 AM Oh, and the council of Esus had no civopedia text in my game GeeJo Dec 16, 2007, 10:54 AM Council of Esus edicts list, Slave Trade: "globabl" => "global" Demus Dec 16, 2007, 11:02 AM the civ. entry of the "illusionist" promotion (with for example the undercouncil hero) leads to the illusionist unit, instead of the promotion (seen this with some of the other promotions aswell). Nikis-Knight Dec 16, 2007, 12:51 PM Infernal and Barbarian have the same border color. All civs I think.) – …fertile lands are newly exposed by retreating sheets of ice in the . Also Pre-turn 1 (either delete the 'to' or delete the 'that') - …absolute power in you, trusting that you to lead them into the next age Worldbreak mouseover (should be a period & new sentence or delete the comma) – …in all non-Sheaim lands, the amount of destruction… Ratcatchers guild mousover in city screen (should say +15 city crime) – ‘consumes:’ Subdue animal icon not shown on Animal Husbandry Tech popup (when AH is discovered) The Worldbreak comma one is a bit picky but give me a break, it was 6 in the morning on a Sunday :crazyeye: It does look quite confusing though when you see it on the screen. Inkling Dec 16, 2007, 02:29 PM come on the old terrain was for guys wearing skirts! but if you need to change it back: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=254882 cheers. i too prefer the old. i wouldn't take it personally, not that you seem to be, i find it is very nice from an ambience perspective, it looks dark and forboding, but from a play perspective, its just very hard to function in, the detail is lost in the darkness, and everything seems to run together. thank you much for the link. Basil II Dec 16, 2007, 02:47 PM The new graphics LOOK better, the problem is theres low contrast between the terrain and many of the resources. This makes it often very hard to spot them, especially on tundra terrain. I was playing an end of winter game and didnt noticed the corn 1 square from my capital until the square it was on turned to grassland... Basil II Dec 16, 2007, 02:57 PM On second thought I had my graphics set wrong for some reason, wasn't at native LCD resolution and for some reason I had Anti Aliasing on. It looks a lot clearer at the native Res and without AA (It tends to blur the terrain together, not good in this sort of game). Polycrates Dec 16, 2007, 03:13 PM Svartalfur units look fine in-game, but on the little info display on the bottom-left, it shows the default vanilla unit (scout, swordsman etc). I'm not using frozen animations, by the way. vorshlumpf Dec 16, 2007, 04:01 PM I found a few spelling errors in Perpentarch's entry, and when you first begin the game, it says, "The Age of Ice is ended and the fertile lands are newly exposed by retreating sheets of ice in the." I assume there were a few more word intended before the period. Yeah, it was a result of taking the year away from the top right of the screen, I think. The year was lost in the Dawn of Man screen, the game log, and a couple of other spots where it should be. Psychic_Llamas Dec 16, 2007, 04:40 PM There a quite a few Red blobs in the unit civilopedia (i forget which ones  sorry) TheCowSaysMoooo Dec 16, 2007, 05:20 PM Playing as the Kuriotates in a One City Challenge, when I took over a city it asked me if I wanted to make the city a Settlement or City. It then razed the city correctly, so the pop-up is purely a cosmetic issue. Don Pelayo Dec 16, 2007, 05:31 PM The courtesan has an arm abruptly arising from one ear. Kael Dec 16, 2007, 05:56 PM There a quite a few Red blobs in the unit civilopedia (i forget which ones  sorry) Let me know if you remember any of them. I dont see any (but different units are viewed depending on which civ you are). Second line should read "strengthen." Third line should have "too." And in the second screenshot there is an option to spend espionage points. Arqane Dec 16, 2007, 08:31 PM This is half cosmetic, though almost too important to be in my opinion. Is there any way to take the world spells off of units? Granted, it's ok with the pop-up window asking if you want to use it. Still, it freaks me out that a one shot per game icon is sitting there waiting to be hit by accident. Along the same line, since I'm playing the Sidar, could you give the Wane spell a pop-up box? That one isn't so friendly, as you can easily destroy a hero since they're often over L6. Hemah - "Time to blast them with my Mete... or... Show... ah crap, I'm a Shade" TheCowSaysMoooo Dec 16, 2007, 09:53 PM Apostrophes are boxes in pedia entries for Aeron's Bounty and Brotherhood of Wardens. mdfairch Dec 17, 2007, 12:03 AM The courtesan has an arm abruptly arising from one ear. It sure makes her scary and balseraph-like but... Yeah, I've seen that too back in version 0.25. I'm surprised no one the dev team has run into it; it's pretty hard to miss. It's ... disturbing to say the least. Makes her look like some sort of demonic creature that the Sheaim would summon. Kavok Dec 17, 2007, 12:34 AM One of the loading tips says something about siege weapons being used to take a mature city. So there were some things I didn't know how to do and were undocumented. One is Training Yard and Axeman. No where does it say that Axeman requires Training Yard; all Training Yard says is that it gets +1 happiness with Nationality, which makes it sound worthless. Same thing with Archers, etc. I'll post more undocumented things as I go along... Shakiko Dec 18, 2007, 04:38 AM Reporting 2 cosmetic issues: a) Missing the halo of Archmages in the ministatusbar (but it exists on the world screen) b) I don't get the right words to explain it properly :( Please see the attached picture (Got Fellowship of leaves as state religion) Shakiko Dec 18, 2007, 04:45 AM Oh, and another one...(sorry for doubleposteing *bows*) : The Svartalfar warrior shows correctly in the world map, but both the build screen in cities and the statusbar still show the old Warrior graphics from Vanilla civ. This double grid is driving me cross-eyed. How can I get rid of it? Thanks. Apart from that, I love how the game is getting as dark and ominous a feel to it as Disciples(II), my other most favorite game. :) xienwolf Dec 18, 2007, 11:15 AM No tooltips (mouseover text) for the founding of the Cult of the Dragon event. Would be very useful to have information on what will happen for each of the two options, even if it will be neccessarily lengthy. Also, reported a few times in the Bug thread, but belongs here I think: In the Corporate Advisor Screen, the Name field for each guild displays as Wolf. And in the city zoon screen, the tooltip information for an active Guild says Consumes: rather than the actual effect. Aeravel Dec 18, 2007, 11:46 AM The wonder Infernal Grimoire is still showing as a red blob with the patch. Aeravel Dec 18, 2007, 05:10 PM When the event that a ballad is made in a city, a listed option is to have a recording contract given to the artist. White Elk Dec 18, 2007, 08:14 PM Infernal Grimoire missing its civilopedia graphic. EDIT: Oops its already been reported. ZhugeTien Dec 18, 2007, 10:14 PM First of all, I'd like to propose a rather simple fix for the lack of "Date Founded" information. I know that the old "Age of Rebirth, year x" was a bit long-winded for the interface, so perhaps a simple "Year x" would do the trick? That way the dates would show at least which turn a religion/city/whatever was founded. If anyone has any cognitive dissonance regarding heroes living for hundreds of years... Well, you're just going to have to figure that out yourselves. (Thanks to George for that line.) The real reason I'm posting here is something which I'm sure has been mentioned several times elsewhere, but I didn't see harm in vocally noticing the same problem. When Undercouncil votes popup, I see the header from Vanilla BtS's U.N. proposals. That text should be sought out and changed appropriately. That's easy enough, right? The Overcouncil may have the same trouble. I'm not sure as I haven't played any good civs under Shadow rules. The neutral and evil ones are just too much fun! Awesome new graphics! I love the new terrain, but hills could do without the gridlines, and jungles are a bit too dark (on my display at least) rendering them hard to distinguish from unseen tiles. ZhugeTien Dec 18, 2007, 10:18 PM @WhiteElk Not the Red Bubble of DOOOOOM!?! :run::hide::faint: princecharles Dec 18, 2007, 11:49 PM Funnily enough, after building it, it had its textures in my game. Thennorin Dec 19, 2007, 03:37 AM When the Ratcatcher's guild moves to another city (from one of yours), it displays two status messages (with a sound for each) instead of one. Fortifying a tar demon makes it tilt to a 45 degree angle, burying half of it in the ground. Btw, will cosmetic issues and/or fixes ever be shown in a list like with the bug thread? As the thread grows it'll be impossible to know what has/hasn't been reported. Aeravel Dec 19, 2007, 07:49 AM In the pedia the Sun and Shadow mana entries haven't been changed from 'Not implemented yet'. Thennorin Dec 20, 2007, 03:23 AM The religious wedding event can involve Hyborem (and I assume Mercurians, too). I just had it trigger and Hyborem was annoyed that his Khazad neighbour wanted a Runes wedding :P Maybe it's not a cosmetic issue (?), but it seems completely wrong thematically. onedreamer Dec 20, 2007, 07:09 AM I'm not sure I'm entitled to point this out, but to my knowledge it seems that the noun "effect" is used in pretty much any entry instead of the the verb "affect". [NWO]_Valis Dec 20, 2007, 07:57 AM Maybe I shouldnt post it but I cant help my self :P Playing as Sindar I got a standard message pop-up that my empire has X million souls. I thought the same as you til xkcd straightened me out, and it's a common mistake. Wikitionary says this, however: The homophones “affect” and “effect” are sometimes confused. “Affect” conveys the influence over something that already exists, but “effect” indicates the manifestation of new or original ideas or entities: * “...new governing coalitions during these realigning periods have effected major changes in governmental institutions.” * “...new governing coalitions during these realigning periods have affected major changes in governmental institutions.” The former indicates that major changes were made as a result of new governing coalitions, while the latter indicates that before new governing coalitions, major changes were in place, and that the new governing coalitions had some influence over these existing changes. So the correct usage should be affect, since the spell is *affecting* the pre-existing status of unit (i.e. haste "affects" the units speed, since it already had a speed... etc). It seems that some spells *affect* and some spells *effect*. Meh. Why not just say "the spell adds +1 movement" and leave out the affect/effect controversy. I think they are both combined into one icon (i.e. 1 sheep and 1 toad shows up as 2 sheep), but by the time I realized where the toads were, all my sheep resources had been hell-ified. Edit: 2 sheep as in "(2) sheep" not two separate sheep icons. Broken Hawk Jan 01, 2008, 09:40 AM The pictures of Syliven's Perfect Lyre, both unit and wonder, in the Civilopedia are...messed up for lack of a better way of putting it. :p Broken Hawk Jan 02, 2008, 02:50 PM Odio's Prison Civilopedia Entry: In the first paragraph of the history window it states ...and lead and army... I presume the second and should be an an. MagisterCultuum Jan 02, 2008, 05:15 PM Is there some reason why the mouseover of a promotion no longer lists the effects of the earlier promotions which are no longer displayed (e.g, you no longer see combat 1-3 when you have combat 4)? I liked the way that these promotions were kept hidden when you weren't trying to see them but could still be seen through a mouseover in vanilla FfH. Was this tied in some way to the PLE interface, and the bugs therin? (Hopefully they can get that mod workig well enough to re-add it to FfH soon) Grey Fox Jan 03, 2008, 01:45 AM No I think it's just not fully implemented yet. Broken Hawk Jan 03, 2008, 09:15 AM It was my understanding the PLE buttons were not returning. I hope not, too much clutter in my opinion. it-ogo Jan 03, 2008, 07:11 PM Something is wrong with courtesan's arm. It is attached to her back and oriented in a strange way. Sorry if repeated. kumquatelvis Jan 06, 2008, 08:49 AM Patch F: Whirlwind spells says "Puched Back" instead of "Pushed." Broken Hawk Jan 09, 2008, 03:28 PM One of the hint screens that come up when you load a save or start a new game refer to fighter aircraft. Cuteunit Jan 09, 2008, 03:34 PM I read that as " punched back" which would actually be awesome in a way. aesthetically: clockwork golems really could use their own model. aku Jan 10, 2008, 11:10 AM Dunno if it has been reported before but the lions talk when selected. ;) Shouldn't they growl or something? thFrgttn Jan 10, 2008, 09:11 PM Maros is too small - less than half the height of a cat or wolf. Arthendain seems about the right height. Broken Hawk Jan 11, 2008, 01:30 PM I don't think the Malakim Swordsman unit graphic fits their theme. A bald guy in a green robe? Especially given how cool the Radiant Guards and Ratha's look. :) skallben Jan 11, 2008, 04:00 PM Units captured with Inquisitors (probably other ways aswell) have the wrong graphics in the UI toolbar thingy, I had a captured Clan Champion look like a pirate  Correct graphics on the actual "board" of the game though. sivlar Jan 11, 2008, 11:47 PM Both probably been repeated many times now but.... Courtesan's arm is attached to her head. Infernal bowmen STILL shoot red blobs instead of arrows. Nor'easter Jan 15, 2008, 04:33 PM Just bumping this to the first page. SwordofStriker Jan 15, 2008, 08:42 PM On starting a new game, the tip that begins with "When attacking a mature city...," has some spelling errors. One case of siege is spelled "seige," and available is spelled "availible." Mesix Jan 15, 2008, 09:29 PM The bonus GPP for spirit mana nodes is not displayed as a bonus in the city screen. skallben Jan 16, 2008, 05:44 PM Neeeeeeeeeevermind, it seems I used the option "Freeze animations" and that screwed everything up :) Mesix Jan 17, 2008, 10:36 PM BTS incorporated a new feature where you can select which startup screen you like to play with. When playing BTS, I like to use the Classic Civ IV mainly because I like the music better. Unfortunatelly, using this option keeps the Classic Civ IV startup screen for FfH too, and I would much rather see a distinct screen when I load up the mod as well as hear some thematic music. Is there any way to have the FfH screen selectable without changing the startup screen for BTS Vanila? Perhaps the mod could have the custom startup screen for all options (with different screens for each :) ). Perhaps the options could be independent of the Vanila options. Mesix Jan 18, 2008, 09:15 PM The Hall of Fame does not have a finish date displayed for any games. MagisterCultuum Jan 18, 2008, 09:33 PM That is because dates in general have been removed from the game. There is also never a date for religion founding. Personally I think that the game should be made to display the turn number wherever the date would have been (except where the turn number and date were tight next to each other--that would just be redundant) Kael Jan 21, 2008, 12:19 PM Everything up to this point is checked in. Maian Jan 21, 2008, 02:46 PM In the Civilopedia, if a spell has a promotion effect, the page for that spell should link to the associated promotion effect. Or even better: hide the spell promotion effects in the promotion index and just put all the info of the promo in the spell page. It says, "Im sure it is what he would have wanted". Im should be I'm. Also, Who am I to question his wishes should have a question mark, not a comma. Man, I have bad grammar.:( Apostrophes don't really work well when the game has to parse a string from the text found in the xml and read it in python; I believe that python would confuse the apostrophy with with and end of the string marker, so your "correction" would mean the entire text for choice 2 would read: "Give his money to the poor, I". (Does this mean that you, with horrible grammar, claim that you are poor so you should keep his fortune? :p) I also think that the remaining text could cause some problems elsewhere, perhaps showing up instead of choice 3 (not sure about that though) If it were types directly in python, then it would cause a major python bug. It would assume that the whole file after the real end quotation mark is supposed to be one large, unclosed string. I doubt the game would even load this file sine the errors would be so big. I thought that python (like MatLab and I believe Java) would read " as ' when within a string, however when I used it in a civilopedia entry I just got rectangular blocks. Does anyone know how to make the game use ' and " correctly? Kentarion Feb 15, 2008, 10:03 PM think its either twice ' -> '' or \' depends on programming language - i mix it up every time. TheCowSaysMoooo Feb 15, 2008, 10:18 PM I couldn't find this thread earlier, thanks for bumping it... :-P TXT_KEY_EVENT_STRANGE_ADVISOR_2 should have an apostrophe, s/b: She's lost her mind, assign a new agriculture advisor. There's a lot of ’-type apostrophes in the French translations and one in TXT_KEY_EVENT_WITCH_2, which show up as boxes, make them '-type apostrophes BeefontheBone Feb 16, 2008, 08:49 AM That's probably due to AutoCorrect in Word - it's a complete pain. TheCowSaysMoooo Feb 16, 2008, 09:25 AM That's probably due to AutoCorrect in Word - it's a complete pain. Yup, it's been a recurring issue, but I was just bringing it up again :) Jenaelha Feb 16, 2008, 01:59 PM .30i Playing as the Hyborem, the long bow arrows appear as pink red circles when they travel against a flamming lands background. YohanLeafheart Feb 16, 2008, 03:32 PM I misread the title and came here expecting to laugh at some comedic issues... The Paramander is a Big Red Blob of Doom. Expected the succubus to come with the Enraged promotion but she didn't. I don't know, maybe it's a random chance that she'll go off, like most chicks from that plane. Fenboy Feb 20, 2008, 06:50 AM Three little things: 1: The Fire Elemental and Tar Demon do not appear in their civilopedia entries, there's just blank space there 2: The Calabim Brujah does not share the same voice as his fellow vampires, preferring instead to talk as if he were one of the 'meat'... 3: Will someone please get Abashi and Eurabatres to Shut The Hell Up! Seriously, their constant, looped roaring every time they're on screen is doing my head in! Edit: Also, as Calabim cannot train War Elephants, what is the point of them having Large Animal Stables? Just confuses the newbies :p xienwolf Mar 01, 2008, 08:23 PM Sidar and Svartalfar do not have any extra text in their Dawn of Man screen, just the default "Age of Rebirth" starter. For the Sidar especially something should be added for new players. Dumhead Mar 01, 2008, 11:18 PM The graphics for ancient forests seems a bit off at times. mainly, when near shores, the trees extend over the shore line. and, if a mountain happens to have trees on it, when it converts to ancient forest, the ancient trees don't 'hug' the mountain. Rather, the trees just all sit on a flat plane on top of the mountain... a bit odd looking. (searched and couldn't find a reference to this, but it seems pretty obvious) xienwolf Mar 11, 2008, 11:31 AM Since I know the Team dislikes having an upgrade change your race I would like to point out Hellhounds. It is the Infernal Replacement for the Hunter, and it makes NO sense. Can carry a Hawk -- Would be more likely to EAT a Hawk... Better Results from Tribal Villages -- Personally I tend NOT to share my technological Developments with Hellhounds, nor pack up my things and join them as a settler. If there was ever a time to react with Hosility... THIS IS IT! Can Build a Camp -- Not only do I wonder HOW they do it, but I wonder WHY they do it... Can upgrade to Ranger or Assassin -- This one would be the Team's Pet peeve, since the Infernal Assassins & Hunters are not puppies. Maybe I got it wrong and they aren't actually dogs. But in that case the name might be better as "Hellhound Handler" or something akin to that. Otherwise... I understand that most of those abilities are to parallel the unit which it replaces, but it doesn't evne make sense for it to be the same SPEED as a Hunter. Hellhounds are known to be able to relentlessly pursue ANY target, and run them down. it ought to be a :move: 3 unit, and lose/replace some of those other abilities. MagisterCultuum Mar 11, 2008, 11:39 AM Hellhounds are demons like their upgrades, but they are rather feral, non-humanoid demons. I agree that it does seem rather odd. jimi12 Mar 13, 2008, 06:34 PM i was playing as capria and falamar said "i told the boys you would be a good man." i dont know if it is possible to change the diplo texts to suit gender but it is a little weird when they call her a dude. Fenboy Mar 17, 2008, 07:46 PM Minor graphics issue, when the Elven Champion does his "put his weapon down for a second" animation his mace disappears for a few seconds. MagisterCultuum Mar 19, 2008, 04:18 PM Not a big deal, but I think that the Religions should be organized in the religion screen and appear in cities in the order most good -> most evil. (I made it Order, Empyrean, RoK, FoL, Esus, OO, AV.) When I changed the order they are defined in in the xml I found that it rearranged them correctly, but was using the wrong Icons for the religions next to the players score and in the cities (but correct on the religion screen and in diplomacy). Empyrean looked like Order, RoK like OO, etc. I'm guessing these graphics may be defined in the SDK or something. I would like the religions re-ordered in the .31 if it isn't too much trouble. Demus Mar 20, 2008, 10:08 AM empyrean more good than RoK, but Esus less bad than OO? Besides that, it sounds like a good idea (will help new players understand the religious system just a little bit better Tyrs Mar 22, 2008, 03:19 PM Hippus War Elephants'riders are on the side of the elephants head, not in the box/saddle thing |
