Any change you can update your titles for the CIV Gold downloads without "Beta version"? The differences between the beta version and the final release are not that big, so your maps should run fine.

I feel myself obligated to mention that 62 downloads of 1000 BC for CIV Gold BTS must have DLed the wrong file, as I accidentally uploaded the 1000 BC for BTS-file twice. I've corrected the situation.

On a different note: I would have included the custom made Jayavarman CIV Gold LH in 1066 AD for CIV Gold BTS update, but the animation seems to drop out of the LH screen (or he's just a really short guy)...:confused:

MrPopov

here's some early findings from the 1000 BC scenario:

flags issue (need to correct the decal.dds path)

Islam founded by Assyrians in 925BC somehow! I went to the WB to see if they were given a bunch of tech somehow, but I didn't notice anything. Looked in options and "choose religions" is not enabled (just raging barbs). Is there something I am missing here? A scripted event? This happened on one game of mine after I had done my own edits fixing the two issues below so I can't confirm what caused it

Fix Scythians (convert 2 horse archers to UU Scythian Riders)

Fix Kush/Nubians (convert 3 archers to Nubian UU Medjay Militia)

The Egyptians might be a bit overpowered with their Pyramids but hey, this is an historical scenario :cool:

I like the barbs, I like the crowded Middle East and I really look forward to sitting down and playing a longer game, but for now I need sleep :sleep:

I'm not sure what you mean here - could you be more specific about what the issue is?

Islam founded by Assyrians in 925BC somehow! I went to the WB to see if they were given a bunch of tech somehow, but I didn't notice anything. Looked in options and "choose religions" is not enabled (just raging barbs). Is there something I am missing here? A scripted event? This happened on one game of mine after I had done my own edits fixing the two issues below so I can't confirm what caused it

Discovering Buddhism lets you choose the religion you found. So if an AI-civ gets there first... (It's actually to do with the map I used).

The Scythians and Nubia/Kush may build UUs, but not all the units they start with are UUs. (I left that in there; it's not something that needs to be fixed, really, but if it bothers anyone, feel free to replace them all by UUs using the Worldbuilder.) As for Egypt starting with the Pyramids: they were already built by 1000 BC, so...

Glad you found the time to comment, hope you keep on enjoying (but don't loose sleep over it!!)!;)

The problem with flags I was mentioning is that some of the civs have a solid flag. You can see it in the third screenshot you uploaded on the download page. Look at Jerusalem and Assur (Also, Babylon has the American star flag). http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads//babylon%20starts%20at%20war%20with%20assyria0000_1 KB.jpg

The problem is the code in the scenario file that gives the path of the decal.dds

BeginPlayer
Team=4
LeaderType=LEADER_DAVID
LeaderName=David
CivDesc=Kingdom of Israel
CivShortDesc=Israel
CivAdjective=Israelite
FlagDecal=Art/Interface/TeamColor/FlagDECAL_Israel.dds
WhiteFlag=0
CivType=CIVILIZATION_ISRAEL
Color=PLAYERCOLOR_DARK_PURPLE
ArtStyle=ARTSTYLE_GRECO_ROMAN
PlayableCiv=1
MinorNationStatus=0
StartingGold=10
StartingX=61, StartingY=46
StateReligion=
StartingEra=ERA_ANCIENT
RandomStartLocation=false
CivicOption=CIVICOPTION_GOVERNMENT, Civic=CIVIC_DESPOTISM
CivicOption=CIVICOPTION_LEGAL, Civic=CIVIC_BARBARISM
CivicOption=CIVICOPTION_LABOR, Civic=CIVIC_TRIBALISM
CivicOption=CIVICOPTION_ECONOMY, Civic=CIVIC_DECENTRALIZATION
CivicOption=CIVICOPTION_RELIGION, Civic=CIVIC_PAGANISM
Handicap=HANDICAP_NOBLE
EndPlayer

The problem is that CIV Gold does not install the flag decals in that directory. So either you can copy the decals into that directory, or change the path to this:

FlagDecal=Modules/Custom Civilizations/Israel/FlagDECAL_Israel.dds

And of course each other civ with a custom flag will need to be updated accordingly.

Now that I have some time I will see how the rest of the game pans out :p

Thanks for the fun scenario!

:( This may take a little while, as I currently am updating 600 BC for BTS to version 1.0. I think I did something wrong in loading things up. Playing 600bc for BTS, on the pick a civ screen when I look at the Greek league, Peracles is there, but everythin is listed for the English. Do I have to load the civ gold mod first then select the scenario?

thanks

Yes: always load the mod first, then the scenario.

As there's only one Greek civ and no Macedonian one, I made the Macedonians Greek (so they get to build Phalanxes). Pericles's Greeks are actually English.;)

PS: The fault lies with the fact that, after completing a test-scenario for the latest version, I couldn't change any civdefinitions.:( (I wouldn't have made a completely new version anyway, if I hadn't received gamescrash reports. Hi. I posted this question in the wrong thread earlier. So, two noob mistakes in a row for me. :blush:

I just downloaded the scenarios for CIV gold, and saved the files to the PublicMaps folder for the CIV Gold mod. Now I can't figure out how to run the scnearios. They don't show up in the "Play a Scenario" menu.

Did I save them to the wrong folder or have I just not been able to find the proper way to run them?

Do you have CIV Gold in the Firaxis/BTS/Mods folder? (If so, any scenario in your Firaxis/BTS/Public Maps folder should show up if you select "Play A Scenario".)

Yes, correct. The Huns civ was not on the original list for CG 4, but I thought it was (I was using an older, outdated list), so I mistakenly gave you a wrong answer in another thread.

I have discussed this with Wyz and he wanted it in anyway, but then I requested to not include it, because I have some other plans with a Huns civ, which involves some Python coding and therefore doesn't quite fit in our core releases.

JEELEN
Mar 05, 2008, 12:26 PM
Hey, that's been the startdate since Januari, 10! And yup, it's intentional. It's because of the civs/leaders present and the setup, notably the Egyptians, who start with Thebes "in revolt" (actually, the High Priest of Thebes were virtually independent at this time). Possibly there were further reasons, but they escape me at the moment; it's been a while since I made it.;)

I don't think including Russia is right. Russia and Kievan Rus are VERY different things. If you wanted to include Kievan Rus, please include Sviatoslav and change the name to Kievan Rus. That would be great.

JEELEN
Mar 06, 2008, 07:40 AM
The "Russians" in the scenario are (or are supposed to be) Kiev Rus - as it's the 1st "Russian" state, and R(i)urik was the 1st ruler, followed by Oleg (+ 913), Igor and then Sviatoslav (962-72).

Strictly speaking Oleg was the 1st ruler of Kiev Rus, as it was he who took the city, but I assume Rurik was chosen because of the start date of the scenario, which is adapted from taillesskangaru's original version. As a compromise between Rurik-Oleg and Russia/Kiev Rus, the combination Rurik-Russia is not half bad - and historically correct.

But you can change these names simply yourself, either in-game when playing the (Kievan) Russians, or by filling in the names you prefer by opening the WBS file with Notepad and saving the file.;)

Mohatma
Mar 06, 2008, 07:51 AM
I think that Sviatoslav LH looks more like Rurik than Peter's (his clothes are too modern for that time)

JEELEN
Mar 06, 2008, 08:58 AM
I'm sorry, it appears I've misunderstood: I thought you were talking about the real guy. Well, you may be right then, but I don't implement LHs if they're not in CIV Gold or a standard LH. Also, i've noticed there's St Louis town 2 times for french (One St Louis in America and one Saint Louis in Africa :) )
And you have spies at start, but 0 espionnage points ... so what are we supposed to do with spies ?

Finally, i think that you shall not began the game with Universal Suffrage tech

Hi guys,

I just want to clarify - the load times are huge and we knew they would be (as noted in our release FAQ. (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=189646) But as Fierabras said - and as we've written in the project desciption - Gold is also a source of comprehensive civ modules. Using a PAK format would make it difficult for mod makers to strip what they needed, and Gold civs currently have a home in several community mods. (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=257885)

But I'm definitely open to anything that decreases load times. I'll look for your suggestions.

Cheers.

Well, I don't know if you've noticed in the Technical Support thread, but you can actually remove unused civs from the mod - if you also remove the relevant lines from the Diplomacy XML. (To prevent error messages; otherwise the mod will still run - but with diplomatic error messages.)

Actually I thought of turning my CIV Gold scenarios into mini-mods. (IMO this would decrease loading time considerably as each scenario only uses a fraction of the 90 civs of the mod.) But this will have to wait as I want to do a CIV Gold edition of The Crusades! and 50 AD for BTS first.;)

Mar 10, 2008, 02:08 PM
Thx for the answers

I had no time to look in tech support area but i'll have to do it unless your solution (diplomacy Xml) works as in fact it's crashing more than i thought, something like every 2 turns more or less. It comes in various situations like opening an advisor screen or simply roaming the map.

Also, i had several big slowdown ingame, just lasting a few seconds (less than 10, did not count) as if Civ was on the edge of freezing (and sound is stuterring too). It's either when i roam the map or when a civ contact me, and it's usually early after i launch the game (after having crashed or not ...). Add to that the long initial load time, and it's breaking the rythm and is of course rather irritating as this scenario seems very interesting.

About spies, yes, i'll keep them for later. At least they allows to see what is in the town they're in.

About Universal suffrage, it seems to me it make it too easy (though i've not played a lot of turns ....) and is a bit early.

And yes, i'm playing the french.

Something very simple I didn't think of before: I use single unit graphics & low res settings to even run BTS (don't have a high end comp myself, you see).:badcomp: BTW, do you get this slow performance only with CIV Gold mod? I am a newbie, so this post is probably misplaced. If you could redirect me to a more suited place for my request.
I am an old player, and since the Civ II I was dreamiong about a realistic approach to the ancient Greek world. Now, with the colony status in the BTS, I think this is attainable. A new mod could be created, where you can onlycontrol one city and every other city you build, becomes a colony.
I have several ideas and a deep enough Knowledge of the ancient Greek history to help any such try, but I know nothing about moding. three scenario ideas that I came up with:
Greek Tribes: Dorieans, Ions, Aioleans, Myceneans, and Minoans (SP?). Add Pelasgians and Illyrians, and maybe Troy and Frygia and you got enough to work with. Core game, where your ultimate goal is to make everyone your vassal or colony. Lots of manipulation, treachery and diplomacy micromanagement, with major cities having multiple colonies and vassals. Razing of cities should be deactivated.
Doric Invasion: The Dorieans (the only tribe that posseses Iron working at the begining) start at the north of the map and find their way down to Peloponissos.. The catch? Cities they conquer become colonies after 10 turns and vassals after another 10. They also can't control more than one city at a time. Goal? Establish the city of Sparta at the preordained location (with the premade settler unit that they have to carry and protect for the whole ride). Secondary goal? Occupy the once legendary city of Mycenae!
Persian Wars: Important Greek Cities are on the map, some binded by Vassal or colonial ties (Athens with colonies Miletos and vassals Samos and Chios, Sparta with a couple of sattelite-colony cities (Messinia, Elis with the Zeus Statue Wonder), Korinth with colony Potidaia and vassal(?) Syracuse, Thiva (vassals Voiotiean league and Fokis with the Oracle Wonder), Plataiea, Argos, Rhodes with Colossus etc. Macedonians starting with Aegae get half the religion bonus, but can have more than just one city under control. All those cities are binded by Hllenic religion that acts as ethnicity (spread only when they are built, the Settlers carry it with them and assimilation after conquest). This should have a lot larger impact (double?) than regular religion, so that even though they fight and bicker between themselves, they unite before external danger (usually they do, there always "traitors" like Thiva and Alicarnassus in the Persian wars. This is why a substantial, religion implied, relations bonus works better than a single nation. Outside enemies are various and at all sizes. They can control any number of cities, but pay big maintenance costs. Persian empire with vassal Phoenicia, Egypt, Mesopotamia, has to face multiple mutinies from their vassals before turning west (or maybe Egypt, Mesopotamia starts independand but declining and Persia is at war with them). Former Phoenician colony of Carthagene (Now independant since Motherland iwas capitulated), looks at Sicily as the only expansion road (they hold a city on the Southeast of the island). They have desert (and the end of the map!) surrounding every other way). Upstart Rome breaks free from the Etrouscan league and they have to deal with the consequences before turning East). Finally, at the northern borders, various minor nations are posing a threat (Illyria, Scythia, and others). You can play any of the outside Nation and the 4 motherland cities of Greece (Athens, Sparta, Korinth and Thiva). Wonders already placed the three afformentioned and The hanging Gardens, Pyramids and others build in the area of the game until 750 BC when the game begins
Thank You!

I downloaded the mod and started to play. I loaded it up and the main menu came up. It looked fine so far but then i could not find any of your scenarios.
I just did "play now" and it was just like a normal game, but I got a different leader. One of the ones you added. So i think i have all the files just not the scenarios. The file is like 1G, I would think there would be some scenarios in there. anyway can someone help me.

JEELEN
Apr 06, 2008, 12:11 AM
Ah, well, yes: you asked how to download the mod without the scenarios. (If that's what you did, scenarios won't show up as they're not included.) If however any scenario is installed in the Firaxis/BtS/Public Maps folder and CIV Gold mod is loaded, it should show up when selecting "Play A Scenario".

CIV Gold contains almost 100 custom civs. I suppose if you select "Custom Game", you'd be able to include quite a few of them in your game (depending on the map you play on; there are 18, 24, 33/34 civ maps available for BtS). However, CIV Gold does not alter gameplay, so in that sense it will be like any other game.

You're welcome! I think using Custom Scenario should give you what you want. (Though a different game speed with mess with balanced gameplay, I usually just recommend gamespeed. It may have to do with the scenario it's based off that the speed is fixed, I don't remember exactly.)

Praise is given where its due! :D Yeah, i'm a big history buff as well. Thats why I like this map, since it sets up an industrial level conflict very well. Whenever i try to have a proper random earth type map, I usually end up owning half the planet by the time I reach this era. Ergo, winning too soon. Other mods like Rhye's are great, but restricts you to his victory conditions. Your's leaves vanilla victory.

I've been test playing different civs, most seem pretty easy to win...like france, england, US, russia, etc. Maybe I'll give Germany a try, they have a hopeless situation. Any advice? Whats your fav?

JEELEN
May 21, 2008, 09:05 AM
Personally I like Earth maps (whole or in part, but I don't particulary enjoy late starts, unless there's a conflict going on), Fantasy (Fall from Heaven is brilliant) or Sci-Fi (Star Trek, Babylon 5, MOO2Civ - which I've kind of adopted). Assuming you're talking about Earth 1862 AD here, I think you might try one difficulty level up for a change - it can make all the difference. As concerns 1862 for CIV Gold BTS, I've upped the reality level a bit, which should increase difficulty as well. Though one of the reasons I didn't make a CIV Gold Edition before, is that the British and Russian Empire just seem to easy to play. But I can see why Lokolus chose this particular year, as there are a number of conflicts going on simultaneously. (Personally I feel that Earth 1600 AD and Earth 1790 AD are more challenging. Being Dutch myself I've tried the Dutch rather succesfully in these and in RFC. BTW, did you try 1500 AD on Giant Earth Map, by Ghenghis_Kai? There are a few others for GEM and more under way.)

To return to your question: I don't like to give playing hints - unless asked to -, but I suggest trying one of the seemingly lost causes and see how you cope. It just seems more of a challenge than choosing one of the sure wins. To be honest, I haven't actually played Earth 1862 AD after I noticed some unhistorical issues, which kind of put me off (the same with Lokolus's WW I & WW II scenarios; I'm afraid he does that to increase the fun of playing it, but I can't stand it if things aren't like they're supposed to be)...

Anyway, if I don't discover any weird things in a test run and I made a few screenshots, I may upload some time tonight - if only to get back at my other projects (which still have a lot work to be done).;)

JEELEN

JEELEN

That would be the late 1790s then - sorry, must be my German side (it gets weirder still: my mom's German, my dad from Warns, a village not that far from Leewarden - or Ljouwert, as the Frisians say).;)

And what part of Germany, dare I ask? (My mom's from Breinig, near Stolberg, Kreis Aachen (Aken in Dutch, better known as Aix-la-Chapelle abroad.)

Back on topic for a moment: as I'm straightening out my bug in 1862 AD for CIV Gold (very annoying, each time I CTD, I have to wait 5 minutes for the mod to start up again - and hope it doesn't CTD again), I'm fine tuning some more, so the original ETA of this weekend seems more realistic.

Just uploaded: 1862 AD for CIV Gold BTS

A special edition of Lokolus's famous "Earth 1862 AD" scenario for use with CIV Gold BTS, including 6 custom civs, 7 LHs plus units and buildings from CIV Gold mod.

While the American Civil War is in its second year, Germany and Italy are on the road to unification. The feudal state of Meji Japan is restoring itself and about to become one of the strongest and most advanced nations in the world. The Boers' South African Republics are at war with the mighty British Empire and Ching China, after being forced into "unequal treaties" with the powers of imperialism, is frought with rebellion.

On a Huge Worldmap 18 civilizations vie to stand the test of industrial times:

1. British Empire
2. French Empire
3. German Empire
4. Austro-Hungarian Empire (CIV Gold civ)
5. Kingdom of Italy (CIV Gold civ)
6. Iberian Empires (CIV Gold LH)
7. Scandinavian States (CIV Gold civ)
8. Kingdoms of the Netherlands
9. Russian Empire
10. United States of America
11. Confederate States of America
12. Japanese Empire
13. Chinese Empire (CIV Gold LH)
14. Ottoman Empire
15. Boer Republics (CIV Gold LH)
16. Republic of Argentina (CIV Gold civ)
17. Brazilian Empire (CIV Gold civ)
18. Republic of Mexico (CIV Gold civ)

and some barbarians.

I'm sure you're most correct, but I'm not sure I follow; the Chinese Empire is just called "Chinese Empire" as in your original Earth 1862 AD scenario.

If you are referring to the Chinese leader, I decided to go with Chancellor Li Hongzeng as restorer of the Empire, instead of Emperor Dong Zih (1862-'74)- who was under age (as was his successor, Quang Xu, 1875-1908, leaving the Empress Dowager Tzu Xiin a very powerful position as regent for both).

EDIT: Nevermind, I found what you're referring to. Thx!

Did a little playtest with the Scandinavian States and I'm not too happy about the way the scenario progresses (especially since, as I was busy most of the week getting a working version up, certain modifications I made earlier aren't in now), so I may do a little update called v. 1.1. Meanwhile, any feedbakc is appreciated!

What I'd like to do in particular:

- set France at war w/Austria & Germany

- add some barbs in Saudi Arabia.

Here are some screenshots I took. Sorry I could not take any more, the game crashed and it said memory allocation error, or something like that.

Sorry about the crash (with this type of late-date scenario - and/or with GEM - I also tend to run out of RAM), but thx for the shots!;)

EDIT: I've added the screenies to the DL Page (and your name to the credits. (If anybody has two more to post, I'll do the same!)

1600 AD for CIV Gold BTS

Did/do you play it? (I'm sure you noticed Poland-Lithuania as a playable civ, but I haven't playtested that.) Any comment?

Saw that you changed Port Hedland's spelling :mischief:

Well, thx - on behalf of Lokolus as well, I'm sure.:mischief:

Yeah, somebody mentioned something about that on the Earth 1862 AD thread...

The barbarians are br00tl. :cry:

Really? (I tried playing as the Dutch, but my capital was overrun by Austria-Hungary... the scenario may require a bit of tweaking, maybe* - or they were just mad about me cancelling their overseas colonies in the initial setup.):mischief:

*There was a suggestion that the Union & Confederates should be set at Permanent War, which seems appropriate, but I think I'll postpone a v. 1.2 till after I've finished some other projects I've promised to release (at which time I'll have some time for further playtesting to work out further changes to the setup).

Indeed. I wish I knew how to make scenarios. I have an idea but have no idea how to do it. :(

Yeah, somebody mentioned something about that on the Earth 1862 AD thread...

That was me. ^_^

Really? (I tried playing as the Dutch, but my capital was overrun by Austria-Hungary... the scenario may require a bit of tweaking, maybe - or they were just mad about me cancelling their overseas colonies.)

I like the Dutch, whenever I play them (in any of the "earth" scenarios), I try to invade Australia and New Zealand. I'm still trying to work out how to grant independence to colonies. I wanna emulate the Canadian Confederation and Australian Federation.

JEELEN

Yeah, I thought that might 've been you...

I think you need 3 overseas cities to allow independence. (I've tried it with less, but then the Grant Independence option isn't available in the City List.) So, tell me about your idea for a scenario; I might have some suggestions about how to go about it (I've helped Traiano a bit with his GEM scenario) - and perhaps other people will chip in. ;)

(You could post it on the Scenario Request thread - but then, if somebody else creates it, you may still not know how to do it yourself.)

W.A

3 cities hey? So is it possible to do in Lokolus's scenarios and your gold conversions?

Well, at the moment I'm fascinated with secession in Australia. I was thinking about a what-if scenario. In 1933, Western Australia voted to seceed from the Commonwealth of Australia. The referendum passed with 68% in favor. So,W.A seceeds from the Commonwealth and becomes a dominion of the Bitish Epire. The player guides the dominion through global events (WW2 and stuff like that) and into the future. Something on a global scale would be tres awesome. You'd have the ocenianic civs like Indonesia, Papua New Guinea (which was a territory of Australia until the '50s I think), New Zealand.

W.A is one of the richest states in the world because of it's iron ore boom. So it'd be cool to simulate what history would have been like if the secession was granted.

I was also thinking or a scenario based entirely within Oceania. New Zealand, the states of Australia, the pacific islands, etc. The states of Australia start off as vassals to the Australian Capital Territory but things go horribly wrong and there's a civil war.

It's still in the early stages of concocting, but I'll think of more as it comes. :D

Sounds intrigueing: a Single Player scenario for Australia (or rather two). But from your explanation I gather you want to include the secession as an event? You could just have the (1st) scenario start in 1933 with independence as a given (and for the 2nd dito for the secession).*

Most importantly, you'll want to decide on a map. (For the 2nd there may be an existing map on a "local" scale - haven't checked -, but you can also send in a Map Request on the thread for it.)

I'd still suggest you post a Scenario Request (stating you'd like to do it yourself, but appreciate any help). Anyway, let me know if/when your plan takes more definite shape.;)

*If you'd like it to be a CIV Gold scenario, you already have a mod, and - if you're up for it - might include the events you want. (Otherwise, IMO, WW II would already be a major event and you should contemplate having the scenario start in December, 1941 or January, 1942. The economic Depression era following the Wall Street crash might be another if you want it to start in 1933 - as would Indonesian independence.)

Last night I couldn't sleep so I lay in m y bed thinking about start times, events, etc;

I think a good start would be for colonization up till Federation. Where the player takes on the role of one of the colonies and must manage to convince the populace to join the Federation. Initially, there would only be New Holland and New South Wales, but then then New South Wales would splinter off into other colonies. (South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, Queensland, New Zealand). Possibly there could be an Aboriginal faction. This could be done on an Australia/New Zealand only map. Events like the gold rush and Federation referendums could take place.

2nd Scenario would focus on Federation to the end of WW1. Player can choose from Australia and New Zealand. They'd have to send troops off to while maintaining their economies and international relations.

3rd would be from the end of WW1 to the end of WW2 with events such as the Depression, the War, the secession. And any other major events. (I found the near most perfect map for this, except New Zealand and Tasmania are cut off T_T)

and then from WW2 to present. With whoever the player decides to play trying to keep the peace in the region while focusing on real-life issues such as the dot-com bubble and the current credit crisis.

I was also thinking about using these forms of government for the civs:

Absolute Monarchy
Constitutional Republic
Constitutional Monarchy
Single Party Republic (Communism)
Military Dictatorship
Presidential Republic

Maybe even an entirely different civic option which allows the player to choose the title of the leader.

Premier
Prime Minister
President
King/Queen
General

Still trying to nut everything out, but it's coming.

Sounds cool - and challenging (and already pretty well thought out). To be honest, I don't have a lot of experience with events, except with my 1066 AD and The Crusades! scenarios (where I cheated a bit datewise to not have to include actual events).

If you post a Map Request (there's a thread for it in the Civ4 - Scenarios section), you may get a perfect map - but there are also map tools in the Tools & Utilies section (main Civ4 Forums page) to edit a map yourself.

Keep it up!;)

Would you be able to turn the Minor Nations into Independants and Barbarians and use the extra civ spot for maybe another South American civ?:goodjob:

I could, but I created the Minor Nations to reduce the number of barbarian nations, as they tend to get gobbled up.

What I could use is gameplay feedback and suggestions on gameplay like "the Dutch Empire is too weak" or "attitudes/diplomatic relations should be changed to...", as I haven't playtested it much so far. (A story of how your game progresses would be fine as well.);)

W.A
Jun 06, 2008, 06:51 AM
Hmmm, okie dokies. Well, I played as the United States and found that other nations (namely Confederates and the Mexican Republic) capitulated to me when half their cities were left. They dear old Confederates then beat me to the Russians in Alaska and took the cities and it upset me because I wanted Alaska. :(

But anyways, apart from the capitulation thing, I think the gameplay is great so far.

JEELEN

Hm, seems OK to me; the South actually did capitulate and the Civil War shouldn't drag on forever (but if you don't like the offer, just say no).;)

JEELEN

Very good point: Representation would be more appropriate. (I hadn't checked government settings, just kept those of the original. Probably should check the advances for each civ as well.) Thx again for your comment!;)

Can the extra civs mod (where you can get more then 18 civs to a game)be applied to your scenarios and still work with civ gold? I desperately want to experiment with granting independence to colonies and (expletive):p

No worries, it's just something that's bothered me since Lokolus's release.

Also again, the Union seems terribly strong.... I was just playing as the CSA and got whomped pretty bad, I had to draft like hell to make up for units I'd lost. Also, infrastructure in the eastern states of Australia should be a lil' more advanced I think.

Not sure if that's possible, you'd have to try for yourself. (I personally don't like 18+ scenarios/maps; especially in late game they slow my comp to a grinding halt. But you don't need extra civ slots to grant independence per se, as this possibility is already defined for each civ. Couldn't tell you if that still works if you use several Australian-defined civs.)

Well, the Union should be strong (but I haven't added extra land units, on the contrary): they had 71% of total population, 81% of male pop. and 92% of total production - plus the South had no fleet to speak of (ruling out overseas assistance, if any).

My 1870 atlas shows only some railway lines in Victoria and coastal areas of New South Wales and Queensland. (I'm sure there are historical atlases for Australia available down under, providing more details.)

Speaking of Australia, would you be able to put Brisbane, Hobart and Melbourne in? :)

Also, you're correct about the railways, there weren't any interstate ones till atleast several decades later. :S

I'm not sure about this one, but I've noticed Sri Lanka is connected to India by a land bridge in some of the Earth Scenarios.... also, the North and South Islands of New Zealand are connected by land, should b water in between.

Can't really tell you without more info on what you did exactly.

Speaking of Australia, would you be able to put Brisbane, Hobart and Melbourne in? :)

I could, but the British Empire is already very strong (which is also why, I assume, Lokolus left India totally undeveloped and underpopulated). In theory it would be possible to separate Britain and its dominions - as a vassal -, though I'm not sure if this is very practical (because of the 18 civ limit a.o.). I I already (re)moved several nonhistorical German/Austrian colonies, which may also need further finetuning as concerns gameplay. Basically, Earth 1862 AD is a great scenario for modded events and such, which would improve historical development after gamestart.

Sri Lanka is never connected to India on any maps I use, N and S New Zealand usually are (but a carefully placed city there may solve this, IMO, satisfactorily).

Anyway, thx for the feedback - wish I got more in-game comments like yours!;)
