I started on this island. Didnt make contact with ANYONE untill about 800 a.d. I just bought about 12 techs off other civs, but im still behinde by about 5-6 techs. So you tell me what to do, ill do it, then write a story about it.

Plan for a strategic invasion!
What few American cities are left will provide a usefull hold in the new world! Search for other islands, you need to get to them first, only then could you hope to challenge the might of the others. Perhaps you could start a war between them?

I was in a similar positon once. On a standard world map, I started on australia, and had the few surrounding islands to myself. I think I had about the same amount of cities as you, and I had thought of invading someone, but ended up just sitting on 0% sci, loading up on gold in first a republic, then a democracy, buying techs off other civs, and when someone declared war on me, paying the other civs to do the fighting for me. I ended up by winning a diplo victory.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! The romans beat me too it. AMerica only had two cities left and the romans took 'em both. Should i even attemp to take on the Romans? (BTW, im somehow beating them on the historograph thing.)

Hmm, nuts.

You wouldent stand a chance against them in an all out war in your curent state... You simply must catch up in tech, and hope to your respective deitys that you find another island. If you dont there is always the non-warlike method; but sowing discord, hate, and general bad feelings might help when you have a sizable military. Just enough to capture and hold 2-3 cities. If you have kept your overall production up WW1 should weaken somebody enough to do even more. Just make sure that you sink any ships coming your way during it, an assult on your island is the last thing you need.

I've been in my fair share of Island empires..hehe... my favorite. I agree wit heveryone else to seek out more islands and settle them first. I definity think you should attack Rome, just as soon as you get a sizeable navy (make sure you have at least 2 naval ships [same or higher tech then rome] spaced with in one turn's travel from each group on the sea of the coast of your island, that way to inturrupt any Roman invasion.) What you do is secure two Roman cities closest to the coast. Secure these cities then send reinforcements. Once secure, then start another offensive.

Two Questions:
1.) Is that island off the coast of the mainland yours? If not, take it.
2.) Ignore all of my suggestions if you are completely outdated. It dosent even look like your have iron to build swordsmen. If they have a better technology of fighting units that would win 9/10 times, then DO NOT ATTACK. It will just waste your money and time.

I had a pretty good game that I was an island. If you want a Pic, just ask :).

Go West Young Man... Build up your current location, do not attack, go west... I agree with 0% Sci., buy everything, trade big time..

What's the graphics mod you use to get that terrain? I haven't played civ3 in yonks so I'm a bit behind on things.

hehe, sweet graphics, hey? I use them too, they are Womoks graphics, found here in our very own file section at Civfanatics.

All hail King Jason!! Thanks, I'll check this Womok graphics set out. Looks heaps better than the shabby original graphics of the game. I suppose I should install civ3 one of these days too.

lol, ya the graphics would work better with civ3 installed. But one bad side of the graphics; the ocean is pretty undetataled. Also, the graphics are pretty dark, so you might wanna brighten your monitor when you play. Those are two small prices to pay for the sweet graphics, though
