QFT - I really hate it that I look completely hammered after 2 beers. Additionally the only time someone ever takes photos of me is when going out => I look . .. .. .. . on 95% of my photos.

Was he demonstrating some of the neat kung fu moves he plans on using on Harper in the next election?
Eran of Arcadia Dec 22, 2007, 01:03 PM Actually, he was trying to fly.
Captain2 Dec 22, 2007, 01:32 PM yeah, he was demonstrating how he can turn his hands into facehuggers :p
bit of a backstory: just before this picture was taken he was backing up while talking to the rest of my politics class and didn't notice me, he ended up backing into me and almost fell over since the arch of my foot isn't exactly stable to stand on
however he made a joke about it and moved me to the side

not that I expect the Prime Minister to meet with us but I wish she had the class to at least ask and quit complaining about him probably refusing something she refused to request in the first place, meeting Dion and Layton was interesting though

Hey, blame Paganini for my speed, he's the one who wrote that thing. :p
(though he was born in the same date as me, exactly 199 years earlier, so by some strange association you could say I share part of the blame :p)

Can you play the famous 24th Paganini? I doubt that you would have since someone would have needed to transcribe it for guitar. So is this actually a guitar sonata or a violin one? I wish the person videoing the performance had kept it on you.
BTW, I f I could lay the Liszt version of the 24th Carprice, I would not be posting here.

This is actually a Sonata originally for guitar, and the 24th Caprice has been transcribed in about 30 variants for guitar. :) So yes, I could, but I've never played it. :)

Hey Downtown I have a question: IIRC you're a drummer. Does it make it easier to play the drums on Rock Band? And more generally, do you think that playing the drums on Rock Band can help play the drums in real life?

Actually, at first, it made it a LOT harder! I sat down all super-confident, but all the "drums" are in the wrong place, and I found myself reverting to instinct (I knew how to play most of the songs on the real drum set), instead of what was on the screen. I failed the first few times I played on Hard/Expert.
I do think if one is able to score highly on expert, they could play the real drumset and not embarrass themselves. You won't be good enough to go on tour, but you could do it.

warpus Jan 21, 2008, 10:58 AM I used to make them & sell them at wabshirts.com/tshirtbastards.com, until I sold my half of the "company" to a friend.
That was by far our most popular shirt :)

Trust me, I made sure a certain girl saw it.
As Borat would say: "Great succes!" :D
classical_hero Jan 26, 2008, 06:53 AM I have some pictures of our animals, now that I have a got a new camera since the old one was broken. I got it for only $50 since that was the extra I paid for two years extra insurance from the store, so it was money spent wisely.
Here is our female cat. Her name is fluffy for obvious reasons. You can see how much she blends in with our carpet. All pictures are 1/4th their original size.
http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/8611/fluffy2bj3.jpg
Here is our oldest male cat, Bobby.
http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/28/bobbymj7.jpg
Here is our youngest male cat, Charlie. We bagged ourselves a cat. He is a big cat and yet he likes getting into small spaces. He is very weird that way.
http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/2595/charliebo9.jpg
Here is our dog, Mojo. So far we have not lost him yet.
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/2186/mojonl6.jpg
And finally here is a head shot of myself. This would be a few years old, but I have not changed too much since then. This would have ben at my Birthday, a self portrait.

This is me at my paternal grandfather's funeral.
http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/9254/me002po1.jpg
And this is me at my maternal grandfather's funeral. My brother is not facing the camera and the other guy is the Pastor conducting the funeral. Obviously we were looking on the casket of our Grandfather.

Both of those occasions were not sad occasions due to the fact that both were suffering with problems so it was good that they passed on.

I'm an Adjudant in the French Air Force medical service (E7 in US army equivalent)
It was taken in Chad last year, while we were waiting for casualties to arrive.
I was looking for a more 'glamorous' shot, but I'm having a hard time finding one. Mostly I have group photos (you know the kind;)), but I'll keep looking.
EDIT : Here's one I edited slightly. It was taken a few years ago (was still E6), but damn, do I look nice ;).

And before that the Big Bang. I win! :trophy:
Actually, my dad is from Illinois too. :)

French Air Force and located in Taverny? What a big surprise!
Shhh, it's a secret airbase ;) We have nuclear subs in the tunnels :hide:
Ekolite Jan 29, 2008, 12:21 PM lol. I'd post a pic but I have no recent ones atm. I hate having my picture taken. Is it just me or does *everyone* on this forum have a cat? I hate cats too :p

i know narz. it's just that i have this horrible habit of saying things, and then realizing how . .. .. .. .. .y they are the day after. i seriously didn't think it was mean when i wrote it. but i guess it kind of is. he just doesn't fit that mental image you get when you think of military guys!
are there hefty people in the military? i don't think so. i can see how skinny guys like izipo can be in. but you can't be fat and in the military at the same time can you?
izipo, i hope you aren't mad at me!
and is it just me, or does swedishguys cousin look like the kid in the sixth sense?!
Narz Jan 29, 2008, 10:34 PM No worries countrygal, he didn't seem offended. So, are you going to post some pics?
Love Jan 30, 2008, 07:49 AM I dont have any animal cuz my dad's allergic to fur.

And how were you allowed to post that about the subs????!!?!?!!!!?!??!???????!?!!!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!! !!???!??!?!!??!?!?!?!?
Maybe it's because it's not true :p
You see, Taverny AFB is kind of the French NORAD. So, for decades it was shrouded in secrecy and there was all kinds of weird rumors flying about (like the one about the subs).
Now it's no longer secret, it's just the place where the SAC headquarters are, that's all.
And kittens rulez! Mine is sitting on my lap right now.
i know narz. it's just that i have this horrible habit of saying things, and then realizing how . .. .. .. .. .y they are the day after. i seriously didn't think it was mean when i wrote it. but i guess it kind of is. he just doesn't fit that mental image you get when you think of military guys!

Oh don't worry it takes considerably more to offed me.
Its just that when people think military, they have this picture of an army special ops guy, full of muscles and carrying an M60.
People fail to realize that a lot of the armed forces is not about fighting but about support and logistics...
As you can see in this picture,
http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/5695/sante1om5.jpg
we have all kinds of morphology types. {for the record, this is a picture of the medical team we had in Chad, desert BDUs are Air Force, Green BDUs Army or Health Service}
The overweight guy, upper left from myself, is a very efficient (and nice) lab technician. We don't care if he cannot do a hundred push ups or run 8km in less than 40mn. Same for me, I'm a good nurse and a good manager, I can be skinny ;)
Captain2 Jan 30, 2008, 02:42 PM wow, seeing that picture with only two females makes me rethink my plan as a career soldier, that would be 20 years of frustration :p
Eran of Arcadia Jan 30, 2008, 02:46 PM wow, seeing that picture with only two females makes me rethink my plan as a career soldier, that would be 20 years of frustration :p
They do allow limited interaction with non-soldiers, you know.
Ecofarm Jan 30, 2008, 02:48 PM Mixing work and personel relationships is almost always a disaster. Don't worry about the ratio. When you go to the local pub, women will trample the community college, mcdonalds, and mechanic guys to get to you.
C~G Jan 30, 2008, 02:55 PM From experience I can say that wearing an uniform or making girls know that you have one is like smearing yourself with honey in the presence of bees.
Merkinball Jan 30, 2008, 03:09 PM From experience I can say that wearing an uniform or making girls know that you have one is like smearing yourself with honey in the presence of bees.
Yeah. I stopped making it a talking point after the first year. I mean...it's not even a challenge.
"Yeah, I'm in the military."
REALLY! Let's go have sex!
Ecofarm Jan 30, 2008, 03:12 PM Those women are true patriots and if I could remember all their names, I would thank them all individually for their fantastic service to country. Isn't there a song about this in "Grease"?
