View Full Version : Shader Library Load Error
Navigator84 Dec 21, 2007, 03:28 PM I get an error at startup "Error loading shader libraries"
I've just finished fixing the d3dx9_32.dll problem, after loading the 1.74 patch. I'm on a branch new Panasonic Toughbook laptop.
Anybody got any ideas? I've tried identifying the ATI product in use, but all I can identify is that it uses the ATI Catalyst Control Center software.
ori Dec 21, 2007, 03:32 PM did you install the newest directX 9c version or just downloaded a random dll from the web?
It should be fixed if you install the november 07 release of DirectX 9c from Microsoft.

Navigator84 Dec 25, 2007, 02:12 PM Thanks for the quick response!
I did download the full DirectX 9c, from the Microsoft web site. I'm thinking of downloading DirectX 10. Think that might work?
ori Dec 26, 2007, 06:20 AM Direct X 10 won't do you any good in regards to this game.
Could you please do the following:
in windows - click start, then run and type
dxdiag
into the box that comes up and hit enter, then post your DirectX version number (its pretty long near the end of the first page).
elink00 Jan 14, 2008, 02:20 PM ori, thx for your input. I'm running Vista and DirectX 10 (Version number in the diagnostic tool does not provide any further detailed information, e.g., point / patch release versions) and civ iv still yields the shading error. is this an incompatibility with DX 10, i.e., does this require me to downgrade to DX 9.x?
ori Jan 14, 2008, 02:28 PM Welcome to Civfanatics :band:
you need to install DirectX 9c - note: this is not a downgrade since DirectX 10 will still work, but Microsoft in their immense wisdom omitted some necessary code from 10 so that you need both. You can get DirectX 9c from Microsoft's website any version of August 07 or newer should do...
elink00 Jan 14, 2008, 11:22 PM Ori, worked perfectly per your instructions! Thank you for helping out.
I also should note for others who happen to view this that Civ IV was working perfectly for a long time. Then in *my* infinite wisdom I decided to run the patch - it was all downhill from there. Oh well, works again now.
Sattakan Jan 20, 2008, 06:33 PM Yesterday I was playing BTS just fine. I was using huge map and after about 6 hours of play it started crashing to desktop every couple of moves. So I checked my system and realized that I did not have the updated patches. So I patched Civ 4 and BtS.
I put in Disc one for BtS and I get a Loading error: Caught unhandled exception creating XML parser object. Current XML is:
This has never happened before. So I put in Disc 1 for Civ 4 and I got the same error. So I uninstalled everything, even the uninstall Keys and reinstalled CiV 4 only. I tried to play and I am getting the same error. I cannot even get into the game anymore. I dd a system restore to the previous day and I am still getting the same error.
Is there any fix for this?
ori Jan 22, 2008, 05:30 AM try this (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=6306170&postcount=9) if that does not work, try this (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=134169)

Thank you very much Ori it worked and I was able to play for hours and hours.
Now I am back to the original problem. After you advance in the game a while and the map is bigger the came crashes a and reboots the computer every couple of turns. Is there a fix for this?
ori Jan 24, 2008, 06:08 PM a reboot hints at a hardware problem - does something similar happen in other applications? does the computer make more noise before crashing?
Sattakan Jan 25, 2008, 06:29 PM a reboot hints at a hardware problem - does something similar happen in other applications? does the computer make more noise before crashing?
No, I do not have this problem with any other games. Just Civ 4 and BtS. It does not make any noise. It just crashes to desktop, then gives me an error message. After I click the okay buttons then it restarts my computer and says "Failed to allocate video memory.
ori Jan 26, 2008, 06:17 AM just to recap:
the game crashes - then you get an error message (what does that one say?) - then the computer shuts off - it starts again - after Windows is booted again it tells you failed to allocate video memory?

No I don't get an error message first. In the middle of the game it just CTD's, and an error message says...
"Failed to allocate video memory. Please try reducing your graphics settings.
File:\main\Civilization4\SDKs\Gamerbryo2_0\Corelib s\NiDx9Renderer\NiDx9SourceTextureData.cpp,Line:32 1"
Then when I click the okay button the computer reboots. After reboot then it says a major error occured click send to report. The error says that it was a device driver error. All of my graphic card devices are updated. This happens when I play Civ 4 and BtS. Only after I get midway through a game. Every 3 or 4 turns it crashes.
ori Jan 26, 2008, 04:48 PM as already noted in the other thread - please post your dxdiag results. I do suspect some hardware error still - since in cases in which only civ died because of the video memory allocation error it is content with crashing to desktop...
ainialios Jan 30, 2008, 12:03 PM Hi, it appears as I have the same shader libraries problem. Although I installed dx 9c Nov 07 the problem is still there.
Any uggestions? Thx in advance
ori Jan 30, 2008, 12:07 PM Welcome to Civfanatics :band: as well :)
what game version? and what operating system do you have?
ainialios Jan 30, 2008, 04:56 PM thx for the fast response and im happy to join the site.
I installed the game (no expansions), cracked it and patched it to the latest patch (1.74).
Op system is win xp sp2.
Also I downloaded the dll file that the first guy also refers to, from internet and copied it to the main folder. After that was solved I had the libraries problem, much like the first post although dx9c didnt worked for me.
ori Jan 30, 2008, 06:50 PM troubleshooting cracked versions is not really what I do (not that this site would allow me to anyway)...
greenthumb_3154 Feb 04, 2008, 11:38 AM okay, i have had this error since aug. 2k has not helped, i have loaded the latest video, audio, bios, directx all with no luck. amd 5000+, 8600gt, 4gigs ram, 22" wide screen monitor with dvi connection. dxdiag file attached. vista bis.
ori Feb 04, 2008, 11:59 AM did you install directx 9c? the dxdiag only shows 10...
Angelbeaver Mar 12, 2008, 11:36 AM Bump.
I only just downloaded and installed 1.74 and now I'm getting the same Shader Libraries error. I'm running DX 9.0c, so I'm a bit confused.
ori Mar 12, 2008, 11:53 AM did you update DirectX 9c? merely having it won't do. Unfortunately Microsoft does not change the version name every release. Get a recent version here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en).
Angelbeaver Mar 12, 2008, 03:18 PM Well, it runs now, but it's unstable. It crashes frequently. It just freezes mid game, then the music plays intermittently for a minute of so and I can move the mouse, but it doesn't respond to any keyboard input and eventually the mouse freezes as well and I get a big beep from the depths of my PC, then my monitor complains that 'No input detected', which is odd and I have to restart the system.
ori Mar 12, 2008, 03:20 PM this sounds like a card problem - the easiest would be to see if it is loose...
Psyko Sep 22, 2008, 01:32 AM It said that we need d3dx9_32.dll BUT you need to have d3dx9_31.dll too! ;)
You can have 32.dll there : http://www.fichier-dll.fr/d3dx9-32.dll,619
And 31.dll here : http://www.fichier-dll.fr/d3dx9-31.dll,618
gendoikari87 Oct 08, 2008, 03:35 PM did you install the newest directX 9c version or just downloaded a random dll from the web?
It should be fixed if you install the november 07 release of DirectX 9c from Microsoft.
Welcome to Civfanatics  :xmas:
Ori, I am having the same error but when I checked my Direct x version it was 9c, so can you help me?
ori Oct 09, 2008, 07:26 AM windows does not use any meaningful version numbers for directx sadly. 9c has been out for years but is still updated every 2 or so months. So just having 9c does not mean the game will run. install this:

also welcome to the forums :)
