I recently bought BTS and have had nothing but headaches with it. I initially had python errors that I fixed after reading some of the posts on here but now I get the same 4 XML errors. I dont know how to fix them. Can anyone help? I tried downloading a few XML patches off microsoft that someone suggested but to no avail. Is BTS just riddled with bugs? I have been reading several of the postings and it seems that alot of people are having issues with it.

please open
documents and settings\<username>\my games\beyond the sword\civilizationIV.ini and set all items with log in their name to 1 and set hydepythonexceptions to 0
then start a game, after all those errors come up close the game any way possible and post the contents of
documents and settings\<username>\my games\beyond the sword\logs
as a zip file

I would think that it should work as soon as you load it up. I have never have had issues with loading games. This is the first and it is extremely frustrating. I am downloading hte patch but I dont think that it is going to work.

I have the same exact problem too. I have the patch as well and it still doesn't work. I too have only had problems with this game. I bought it at the beginning of December and have not played it yet because of the problems I have encountered!

I too have a ton of errors when the game is loading.
At ori's suggestion, I set hidepythonexceptions to 0 (misspelled in ori's post) and all the log-related files to 1. My files were actually located in My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword

My Log files are attached.

BTW: I held the Enter key down, and the system flashed through these errors and the game eventually started. It's late and I didn't actually try to run a game to see what would happen, but it did play the intro and the initial menus came up. I'll give it a whirl after I get some sleep. Hopefully someone can make some sense of these errors.

weirdly the log itself does not contain any unexpected error messages

does it play now after you started it once? it did cache quite a lot of stuff so it might not go through the same stuff again - but it is patched correctly at least...

No. I just tried running a scenario. It allowed me to set everything up then crashed. BTW: I did a fresh install (hadn't had it before) saw the errors and installed patch 3.13. No difference after the patch.

The first error I see is:
Failed loading XML file xml\BasicInfos/CIV4UnitCombatInfos.xml

The second:
Allocating zero or less memory in CvXMLLoadUtility::SetVariableList TagPair Current XML file is: xml\Units/CIV4PromotionInfos.xml

I stopped noting them at this point.

I'll try an uninstall/reinstall. Maybe I've got a bad CD or a quirk o' fate. If nothing else, it'll be interesting to see if it dies in the same place.

The uninstall/reinstall worked swimmingly. All now works fine.

One thing that I did do differently, was at the point where disc 2 is finished and one gets the message to reinsert disc 1. Once disc 1 is reinserted, autoplay puts up the Civ IV flag page asking if one wants to play or exit. Since the install window was still open, this time I chose the "exit" option, clicked the 'finish' button on the install window, then opened the game. That may or may not have had any effect; just thought I'd mention it.

I bought Civ IV and BtS at the same time a few weeks ago. When I loaded up Civ 4 I had no problems at all. I did not patch to the current patch, but after a few hours of play it started crashing after several turns.

Then I loaded up BtS and had no problems, but it also started crashing after several hours. So I did an uninstall/reinstall and uploaded the patches.

Now I cannot even load either game. Once I put in discs 1 I get...

Loading Error
Caught unhandled exception creating XML parser object Current XML is:

I uninstalled again and reinstalled and I am getting the same message with CiV 4 and BtS.

Now I have two problems. First getting the game to actually play and then if it does it crashing after every few turns.

Any suggestions? This is frustrating as hell.
